many schools have an app that helps engage school communities faster, which is the key!
Parents can be the worst enemy or the best ally in education depending on their relationship with the school.

It helps to let parents know what students need to be doing outside of school
it's also very important to be inclusive and open to two-way communication, so everyone stays in the loop
so if we must say let's communicate!!!!! Then it's unlikely to happen
Start with ALL STAKEHOLDERS WANTING WHAT’S BEST FOR STUDENTS then grow communications from there.
- yes, it takes constant effort to make sure everyone really understands.
Find optimal the means of communication (i.e. email, social media, paper, etc.) & follow an honest communication plan
Involving parents in the school community can be helpful in many ways. It also provides transparency in education.
Find the optimal means of communication (i.e. email, social media, paper, etc.) & follow an honest communication plan
- that's the trick, isn't it. Not everyone uses the same mode of communication.
ASK yourself — What prevents me from communicating in an open and honest manner with all education stakeholders? Is this alterable?
Underway - Topic: How can schools foster better communication with all stakeholders?
I suspect fear and defensiveness (and plain old tiredness!) sometimes get in the way. https://t.co/p3ucphC29B
ASK yourself — What prevents me from communicating in an open and honest manner with all education stakeholders? Is this alterable?
I think it's a very important point that everyone should be pointed towards a common goal overall
I try to tell 1-2 parents each day something their child has done well when they're picking up their kid from school.
WAY TO GO. Parent's love that, and walls come down so real communication is easier!
Teachers as stakeholders in the education community should be involved with policy decisions.
What are the best standing desks for elementary students? Need help with ordering. TIA!
What avenues do we provide for parents and other stakeholders to communicate with us?
TEACHERS have lots to do…if communicating with stakeholders truly matters then give teachers time to communicate with stakeholders.
You're right! Keeping everyone on the same page is so important. How does your school approach this?
This method REALLY works.Use it to teach your content: An Ancient/Proven Way to Improve Memorization. https://t.co/x9Kj7JD9M0
You need to ensure that there's plenty of opportunities for communication to happen
Can you be a reflective educator and not communicate with other stakeholders? I don’t think so. Do you?
Green screen projects offer collab summative unlimited assessments!
TRUE. It's also a challenge when parents work so many hours they can't communicate easily.

Can you be a reflective educator and not communicate with other stakeholders? I don’t think so. Do you?
BEFORE COMMUNICATING with other stakeholders, each of us must get clear in our minds why we do what we do in education. You clear?
Theoretically possible (in a world where only two humans remain...), practically unlikely.
Many schools have robo-calls, and that's about where it stops. It's important to have a dynamic, simple method!

There are solutions to enable schools to text message parents as well as students. Communication goes a long way in uniting.
COMMUNICATIONS are complicated when stakeholders lack common language, understanding, and experience. How to overcome?
do all parents pick up? If not, how do you reach the rest?
We have learning evenings, parents evenings, use doddle and we're going to get HW on the website
- sounds like you get zero time to communicate with stakeholders. Time, How rare a commodity.
The Bell UH-1 helicopter reduced the amount of time from wounding to treatment to an average of 35 mins https://t.co/E724mQsVoh
Encourage using email as this is often easier for all involved and not time sensitive
- educational jargon is part of the issue (parents, city councils, et al, may not get it). Simplify!
I communicate with the parents every day through email. I have discovered that the parents love when I send pictures.
Overcoming communication issues lies in establishing a common goal understood by all.
Have you heard of ? Your school should check it out! More constant comm, but easy to access
Yes, but establishing the common goal takes time and --um--communication.
that sounds great. What do those evenings entail? Who leads them? Or are they not "led"?
All but a few... The others get notes in contact books.
FABULOUS. Gold star to you.
Having a common, clearly stated & well understood goal for a school among all stakeholders will clarify a direction for all efforts.
Biggest upside in stakeholder communications —> Students. Huge unrealized potential.
Each department send representatives for the year they are for and they talk to parents about what the expectations are

Starts with great communication within the school. A culture of collaboration and prof. learning modeled by administrators.
Agreed. Simplicity of vision is great--though a bit too rare! But you're right.

I have seen many parents become more than adversarial when they perceived their child was being shortchanged in school
When speaking to parents be empathetic to there needs, often they'll be having more trouble than us
Yes!. Parents who work two jobs, for ex.- When/how can they have time to communicate? Understanding e/o roles is key.

especially when everyone has to be available at the same time
Might be other way around, We create shared values by what we do and say. Communication is way to forge culture
I teach kindergarten and yes, sadly, it is the new first grade. I still try to teach a lot through play. https://t.co/TZIwBlK9xv
You just need to be to the point and constructive, don't spend your time moaning as it makes no impact
That's why school apps are the solution. Parents can have it on their phones, and Ts can communicate more efficiently
Unconference session talking Twitter with , , and
Understanding your parent demographic & developing simple strategies & tools for teacher & parent can foster comm.
Hey ! & are teachers rediscovering Twitter! Who should they follow?
This is easier if the school provides a fast, easy way to communicate with parents
Thanks... bro from there.
Schools must be welcoming: Main office, principal's office, classrooms, library & cafeteria. Never a 2nd chance at a 1st impression
YES, school apps are a great place to start... grow from there.
Yes, but do students get "more than adversarial" too? At what point do they become enemies? https://t.co/qF7b95en7I
I have seen many parents become more than adversarial when they perceived their child was being shortchanged in school
sure... start where you, do what you can with what you have...grow from there.

And really worth the investment of time, though challenging. https://t.co/Y1qEfQhFJn

I'll apologize on behalf of all parents for that. I know it's hard! At least you're both on the side of the kid.
- It's hard for both. Ts do have their tear-filled moments. That was one of several for me! :) https://t.co/9v1miTFpkF

just a caveat as a parent: I have trouble being "presented to." Like kids who don't learn that way.
Truth. Few people (Ps, Ts, Ss) like being "talked at."
If parents are available at all then yes, let them be heard! Cherish their interaction. https://t.co/wSBo5RFzq0
