Scott, PK-3 principal, chatting from beautiful Southern Illinois. I'll cheat and say reading is my non-educational hobby (because sometimes I sneak a fiction book in there). #suptchat
Happy New Year! Dominic, Assistant Principal, joining in from Roselle, IL. Reading along, learning and eager to (hopefully) contribute and collaborate as I'm chasing my kiddos around for bedtime! #suptchat
A1. Students (and all people) are always more than the just the 3R’s. Enrichment is a neuroscience concept. The more enriched students are, generally the better they do in all cognitive, social, emotional and LIFE areas. #SuptChat
I am looking forward to participating in my first #SuptChat. Erik Youngman, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in Libertyville, Illinois.
A1: Enrichment opportunities are necessary to assist students with engagement, exploration, and creativity with gifts that may otherwise go untapped. Assists with appreciation for broadening the hearts, minds, and critical engagement of our students. #suptchat
A1: In order to provide a well rounded and well informed public education we need to provide students arts, service, and enrichment opportunities. #SuptChat
#suptchat A1 Student needs & interests go far beyond literacy and numeracy - schools must see the "whole child" as the purpose of education - students deserve changes to explore, experience & evaluate
A1: Ss have many talents and abilities, but sometimes we must help them find where they truly excel. Offering enrichment opportunities can help with this discovery. #suptchat
Hi all - icebox here in Va but not close to what’s coming to my northern friends - but this at my 96 year old mother’s home in SC Low Country today #suptchat
A1: We must provide enrichment beyond the 3 R's because students don't come to school with the same skills, abilities and passions. It's our job to ensure that we provide opportunities for our S's in as many diverse areas as possible, ie. academic, co-curr, CTE, etc. #suptchat
A1: Student interests and strengths don't necessarily fall neatly into three boxes of the 3Rs. Schools have to help students to explore and develop other areas. #suptchat
A1: creativity. Authorship is personal and contextualized and leads naturally into agency. Then you’ve got kids driving the learning process. #suptchat
A1: Enrichment opportunities allow students to be engaged in their school beyond the classroom. To be successful in the future, students need the 3Rs along with innovation, creativity, and much more #suptchat
A1 Learning opportunities should offer opportunities to be actively engaged in a variety of educational and enrichment activities that empower students to #reflect, #collaborate, #innovate and #learn from #mistakes.
#SuptChat
Enriched learning should be prerequisite 2 3Rs + 4Cs +P-based = equity of opportunity and access to high octane curricula and active pedagogy 4 all #suptchat
Q1 - I think of it like a color wheel and look to learning opportunities that are "across the wheel" from what we currently offer. In this way, there is a balance for different types of Ss and to allow individual students a means to experiment or stretch. #suptchat
A1: Enrichment opportunities allow students to be engaged in their school beyond the classroom. To be successful in the future, students need the 3Rs along with innovation, creativity, and much more #suptchat
A1: I wrote a blog specific to this today: what our students REALLY need to know that go way outside the box of 3 R's, art, etc https://t.co/6ECn5udF0h#suptchat
Absolutely! Really, there aren't any neat and clean boxes. It's one size fits one, and we have to be willing to provide opportunities and pathways for any and all students. Love that technology only makes this more and more attainable. #suptchat
#suptchat - Hi, I'm Charles, a supt from suburban Chicago. My hobby -- aside from my family's hobbies - - anything to do with bicycle racing #educatorswhoride
#suptchat A1: Ss need the outlet to experience real world learning opportunities that often exceed core content. Engagement is higher and Ss attendance has been greater in my experience.
A1 enriched, active learning levels playing fields - experiential rich learning creates images, language, concepts, knowledge - widens the mind which test prep worksheets do not #suptchat
A2. Every possible avenue found in great comprehensive high schools from choir, orchestra, band to guitar and all things in between. One of my sons picked up the violin for the first time as senior @Maine_South which doesn’t happen everywhere #SuptChat
A2 - We have added mariachi to our middle school offerings for music. Additionally, we have ballet folklorico, which isn't music but is obviously a performance art. #suptchat
A2: All students are provided a music experience throughout their school experience. Students can also choose to participate in band, orchestra, and/or chorus and participate in drama. #SuptChat
A2 #suptchat music in @DPS109 includes general music, orchestra 4-8, band 5-8, chorus and some advanced work in show choir, participation in IL Music conferences too & concerts
A2: To our knowledge, we have the only junior high hand bell choir in Illinois. Under the amazing direction of our director, we were treated to a fabulous winter concert in which the choir and hand bells performed together. A-mazing! #SuptChat
A2 Music opportunities vary for each grade, but in general, students have opportunities in music class to sing and play instruments such as guitar, recorder, drums, and xylophone. Students can participate in choir, band, and orchestra & have performance opportunities.
#SuptChat
I love the districts that have kept up funding in arts and music...but I worry that it won't be enough as rate of challenges for our kids radically accelerates; I think we have to go further outside the box #suptchat
#LB65 has one of the most robust and booming music programs I've ever seen. Literally half of the students in our middle school participate in choir or band. It shows in our outstanding musicals each year @MrBZLBMS#suptchat
A2: Q2: band, orchestra, choir offered grades 6-12. Licensed music teachers provide music education twice a week at elem. drumline is getting big! #suptchat
#suptchat Tony Cook, superintendent, Houston, MS Excited to participate. We offer chorus program, jazz band, and drum line. Separate from band. Also, guitar and singing classes.
A2: Music and choir K-8, band is offered for middle school students. Many schools have winter and/or spring programs where all students participate. #suptchat
One other thing is that our elementary school music teacher has changed the first concert of the year to a family sing along (almost like Ravinia) with blankets and juice. Everyone sings. Nobody is scared to get up on the stage. Love it. #LB65#suptchat
Everything we can / formalinformal - music construction studio for “alt” musicians in HS, all trad music, guitar, rock & rap summer academy, @A3House records 4 entrepreneurial artists, rap cyphers, strong Elem music programs, African drumming, Orff, ukulele, recorders #suptchat
A3. Incredibly comprehensive programs with every conceivable art medium, theatre avenue, debate, speech and more, including first HS production of Looking Glass Theatre’s Hard Times #SuptChat
Everything we can / formalinformal - music construction studio for “alt” musicians in HS, all trad music, guitar, rock & rap summer academy, @A3House records 4 entrepreneurial artists, rap cyphers, strong Elem music programs, African drumming, Orff, ukulele, recorders #suptchat
A2: would love to see more creating in music. It’s very natural for kids - and so easy nowadays with things like @soundtrap - Also let’s bring Music into the other subjects. My wife (teacher) always has a guitar handy - and she is not a music teacher. #suptchat
A3 #suptchat theatre - musical/plays at middle school levels, fine arts, communication media arts, STEaM K-8, music, art - always room for improvement but still a highly valued educational component in the #Engage109 world
A3: We are a little deficient here, but we recognize that. So I've been in talks with our music director about possibly having a theatre group or club started. Baby steps, but we'll get there. #SuptChat
A3: Leyden's Theater Program added "Teatro Leyden" five years ago - We cast an English-speaking and a Spanish-speaking cast to get more kids involved! #suptchat
Hey #suptchat -ers. Sorry I'm only present in pre-scheduled tweets tonight. I'm driving my mom and a moving truck from Florida to Illinois in the morning!
We are exceptionally lucky in #WeAreMCUSD to have a collaborative partnership with the @PhantomRegiment -- unreal exposure to top quality for our kids #suptchat
As a rural educator in a small town the arts and music provide a key opportunity to expose kids to the arts and hopefully instill a lifelong love of the subjects for our kids #suptchat
A3: At #WeAreLakePark, we have robust opportunities, both curr. & co-curr, for S's to get involved in the arts. These programs are differentiated for various levels of interest & experience, while promoting collaboration, perseverance and community involvement. #suptchat
A3: Upper elementary and middle school students put on an amazing spring musical, with students creating the scenery. 6-8 students participate in speech and drama #suptchat
A3: We had so many Ss involved in our fall musical that we had to run 2 separate and full casts to make sure all Ss had opportunities! #suptchat@jennatreanor@OQMSMRB
A3 two great middle school shows - full musicals - some elementary schools put on full shows as well with pto running the show. Students getting into filmmaking and animation as well #suptchat
Hi #SuptChat friends! Help impact innovation in teacher education- submit an article for our spring publication! The #TEJSC is a open source peer-reviewed education journal. https://t.co/0TGQQabYZe
A2 And this which is a rap-based musical by a high school playwright song writer performer from @monticellodrama - who believes that the kids should run the show from choreography to directing to writing - not my HS production of Mary Poppins #suptchat
A3: We had so many Ss involved in our fall musical that we had to run 2 separate and full casts to make sure all Ss had opportunities! #suptchat@jennatreanor@OQMSMRB
Outstanding musicals each year... we will be doing The Wizard of Oz this year at LBMS and around half the students in the school will participate. Students start participating in drama in 3rd grade as a part of a rotation. #suptchat
A3 As leaders it is our responsibility to make sure all kids have the same opportunities for enrichment activities. Must remove barriers of cost, rides, etc to participate #suptchat
I think it is important that we highlight the film making, animation, or even the stage hand aspect of performances. It takes many talents behind the scenes to produce something spectacular. #suptchat
And it does some of our C- and less - I’ve watched kids walk the grad stage b/c of their opportunities to create their own music who otherwise would have left us #suptchat
A3 #suptchat:
We don’t offer enough of these opportunities, but we’re increasing each year. Junior and senior plays, musicals, music concerts. Plans in works for arts integration in K-8.
#suptchat A2: We are fortunate to offer Band/Orchestra in 5th Grade as well as Art every other week. STEM, general music, PE, and Media round out Elementary specials. I am working to align field trips/visits with feeder high school to see theatre shows as well Band visits.
A4. We have a robust service learning component throughout our buildings & within student groups in which students are regularly supporting community groups and charitable causes to help enrich others. Several of our programs have required charitable service components #SuptChat
John from Missouri - I love that it is cool in our school to be in the band and choir. Says a lot about our instructors and our students. I have seen student athletes show up for choir concerts in their uniforms because they did not want to miss #suptchat
A4 Students participate in, & help select, a variety of community support activities for needs that are local, within the state, national & worldwide. Significant benefits occurred when a personal connection was made with specific schools or organizations. #SuptChat
A4 #suptchat Community service through philanthropy, service clubs, area of pride and also area with opportunities for improvement, fund raising, food drives, clothing drives
A4: Our classes, teams & groups look for ways to give back. We are proud that at #WeAreLakePark, where service isn't a requirement, most S's and T's still take part. Groups are encouraged to pursue causes important to them, and often, it's right in our own community. #suptchat
A4: In my district, like many others, community service is another thing. My hope for the future is to better integrate this effort with others and to leverage #stuvoice#suptchat
A4: We have a powerful group of OVER 100 students in grades K-5 that serve as Early Act ambassadors for the sole purpose of community service in connection with our @RotaryLHG#suptchat
A4: Am interested in how districts view "community service" as opposed to just learning in and with the community. Is "service" always the best relationship to develop? #suptchat
Q4: Students take leadership in identifying projects that support their school and community through @OurAmVoice clubs at elementary and middle schools. #suptchat
A4 as part of our strategic plan last year we have incorporated service learning as a requirement Pk-12 - our community stressed they wanted us to develop more givers and less takers #suptchat
So cool-we've recently added summer theater for 5-12 grade students and it has been hugely positive. One of our feeder schools holds a Spring production in our theatre too and it's a great opportunity for both our current and future students. #suptchat
A4 good question - Community service is grad “requirement” but can feel compliant ..working on taking to new level w our #HS2022 initiative - we do have a senior citizen action project class - all take @monticellohigh#suptchat
A2: Fortunate to have Theeater(4 plays a year),Jazz Band, Concert Band, Marching Band, Concert Choir, Madrigals, and and an Orchestra. Approximately 700 students involved in Fine Arts. #suptchat
A4: Our #sd113a staff often partners with @TerriO to serve our community. It's incredible to see all of the support and partnership between school and community here! #suptchat@NevinM_17
A4 We should always do more, but #LB65 has partnered with @fmsc_org and other organizations like it during the year. Teachers and other staff members also take care of families in need. #suptchat@jpro65
A3: we have robust music programs at all grade levels and an amazing theatre program at the high school where they perform 2-3 plays a year - some of which involve the MS & HS students. One of our largest academic enrichment programs at the HS (with a waiting list) #suptchat
Greatness occurs when we give Ss a voice. Even better when voice is combined with choice. To add the element of the greater good- that’s where we all should aim to be #stuvoice#suptchat
#suptchat A4 NHS is our biggest avenue for service opportunities but our athletics and clubs do a lot for town cleanup days, back to school festivals, helping seniors in the community.
#suptchat A4: community engagement that flows both ways (student volunteering and volunteers coming in) create a stronger community. Our FSL and I work our feeder pattern looking for donations, volunteers, etc. I also work with NIU for Ss experiences. Recruit and Retain😊
#suptchat Q4 One instance of community service to enrich learning is Random Acts of Kindness Week. Counselors teach various character traits & provide students opportunities to go into the community & provide organized services to nursing homes, daycares, & other local agencies
Many of our @Maine_207
groups also travel throughout the US to support communities in crisis from the recent hurricanes to those ravaged by earthquakes. #SuptChat
A4 #suptchat community service requirements seem valuable but we've found it difficult to develop logistics for accountability and to keep it meaningful.
A4: My district requires students to volunteer their time as part of their graduation requirement. Other students are always volunteering time or money to causes or people having a difficult time. #suptchat
A4 #suptchat:
Community service required in some classes, athletic programs require community service projects, choral group travels community to perform, many high school students in leave school for work at 12:15 to fulfill CCR, students and staff support charitable groups
A4: learning in and with the community should always have a heavy dose of humility, IMHO. We probably have more to learn and gain than we can "give" by "serving". Just need to find a balance here. #suptchat
A5 5th grade students are learning French and Spanish online once a week via @RosettaStone. The online introduction is enhanced with interaction with 8th grade students and then opportunities to learn more French and Spanish in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. #SuptChat
A5. With two majority minority high schools & 70+ home languages diversity is our strength. @Maine207 was an early state & national leader in second language programs. We celebrate our diversity in many formal and informal ways regularly. #SuptChat
A5: Leyden sends students to the @EFtours Global Leadership Summits in the summer. Read about what they learned in Italy and the Netherlands https://t.co/7J322Fhccy#suptchat
A5 #suptchat currently @DPS109 teaches Spanish & French grades 6-8 and Spanish K-5 - world language programming is under review and may change for 18-19 & beyond - global cultures taught K-8 via social studies
A4 Summer academy for fine arts also support kids w deeper passion to go beyond school year- scholarships are key also to equity #suptchathttps://t.co/A1ezs6dzGe
Here's a cool example of community service as part of the curriculum and supporting our own students and community. Proud of our teachers and students. #suptchathttps://t.co/441WzpE53r
By starting in PK and rolling Service Learning in in stages until high school, we hope to create a culture where it is what you want to do rather than what you have to do #suptchat
Here's a cool example of community service as part of the curriculum and supporting our own students and community. Proud of our teachers and students. #suptchathttps://t.co/0ZOgla30DG…
A5: D13 is investigating K-8 foreign language and some teacher, like @KatieCockerham work with their students to learn about world cultures through tech tools: https://t.co/Ql8flRUdFX#suptchat
A5 #suptchat we started Mandarin this year, and integrate a lot of cultural arts in our Spanish program: mariachi, folkloric dance, pretty in-depth cultural celebrations. Our students generally have an appreciation for language and for diverse cultures #mortonpride#orgullomorton
A5. One of the pillars of our One To World initiative is to create opportunities for our students and staff to connect and collaborate with others around the world #authenticlearning#suptchat
A5 #suptchat we teach Spanish beginning in Kindergarten through grade eight and students can take French beginning in 6th. I feel like our #EL students in #LB65 bring in so much to the classroom and help to educate the rest of us on a daily basis. @jpro65@BCapaccio
A4: service learning needs to be tied to S’s interest & passions. It is amazing what a determined group of S volunteers can do. I watch my HS CTE S’s receive donations from farmers all over our area (in truck loads) to help those in need this holiday season. #amazing#suptchat
#suptchat Where can you learn from leaders across the USA and the world? On the 1st Wed of every month from 7pm-8pmCT the answer is right here! Tonight we have responses from IL OK VA MS WI CA MO SC OR GA NJ MI ME PA - wow! Q6 coming up
A6. @Maine207 has a comprehensive CTE program from which students gain certification and job skills within career paths while doing authentic and compelling work that is an essential part of our Personalized Learning program centered on improving Ss LIFE outcomes. #SuptChat
A5: We currently have dual language in three elementary schools. World cultures is offered at the middle schools. We love our annual multicultural fair! #suptchat
A6 #suptchat CTE in our PK-8 district found via STEAM & SMARTLAB coding, engineering, tinkering experiences K-8, also career exploration in grades 5-8 #engage109
Besides basic foreign language 6-12 we have teaching opportunities such as Google Hangouts or Skype to interact with friends from across the pond to allow our students to see the world from our campus. #suptchat
Important to integrate CTE and Academics. English and Building Trades collaboration earned to GHS teachers national finalist in the Harbor Freight Teach for Excellence. Read about the collaboration here https://t.co/rpjXe70KLM#suptchat
A6: Looking into after school club opportunities to explore CTE - wish we could do more. Our feeder school @LPLancers does an outstanding job in this area. #suptchat
A6 The people who do a great job of this are our @LBPreK teachers. Regularly inviting moms and dads and uncles and aunts in to speak about what they do for work. Kids learn about how cool it is to work in design or work in a factory from an early age. #LB65#suptchat
A6. We have a comprehensive HS that offers two approved programs plus we are a member of a tech prep consortium. Looking to expand programs to create more opportunities and choices for ALL students #suptchat
Q5: The nature of digital citizenship is evolving. How have your students leveraged digital media to work towards social justice and/or equity? #SIEdTechChat
A6: Students take leadership in technology integration. It is powerful to see students providing PD to teachers on their favorite programs and apps. #suptchat
A6: Am also eager to follow @CrosstownHigh Crosstown HS in Memphis; recipient of some @XQAmerica funding; will have remarkable interactions with businesses. #suptchat
A6 mechatronics labs, entrepreneurship opportunities, marketing, STEM health and engineering academies, IT academy @CATEChs, internships, digital media and design, culinary arts w a new Food “Bus” to take on the road #suptchat
A6. @Maine207 has a comprehensive CTE program from which students gain certification and job skills within career paths while doing authentic and compelling work that is an essential part of our Personalized Learning program centered on improving Ss LIFE outcomes. #SuptChat
A6: Students take leadership in technology integration. It is powerful to see students providing PD to teachers on their favorite programs and apps. #suptchat
A6: CTE has given connections via partnerships with community orgs and universities to develop maker spaces in multiple locations as we continue to grow STEM. Gives opportunity for students to partner with potential future employers! #suptchat
A6 #suptchat:
We have added Robotics and Engineering and Teacher Academy to our CTE programs. Being a rural district, we have difficulty finding teachers, so we started Tchr Acad to grow our own. Beautiful Culinary Arts kitchen just completed. World champ solar car!!
A6: One of our middle schools is piloting an entrepreneur unit this year and students are working with local business owners to develop plans #suptchat
A6: GHS Robotics Team, "Team Fusion 364" allows opportunities for students to work with NASA Engineers to build a robot to compete nationally. Build season starts Saturday! First Robotics #suptchat
A6: We are pushing to have all of our CTE programs run like a student business. This has helped students develop essential skills like customer service, communication, and work ethic. #suptchat

A6: Career and Technical education puts application and critical thinking into practice. Students get the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge learned in core classes. #SuptChat
A7: We have partnered with Equal Opportunity Schools @EqualOppSchools to bridge opportunity gaps for ALL students in Advanced Placement coursework. #suptchat
A7: I love AP, gifted, etc. but schools almost universally give them attention and resources. I worry about kids in the 65th to 85th percentile. I believe they may be the most under-served students in our schools #suptchat
A7 #suptchat ALL children deserve best education possible; all means all including gifted, talented, advanced placement, language needs, special services, no easy answers here! Must incorporate best evidence & supports for teachers
A7: To provide challenging experiences beyond core subjects. We also strive for application to the real world. Our enrichment program also toured the @Toyota plant in Princeton, IN. #suptchat
A7: These programs are crucial. However, it's important that programs are designed with the needs of all students in mind; many will take AP, but others will thrive in programs such as dual credit, internships or job placement. Various pathways are essential. #suptchat
Q6 #suptchat I've appreciated the level of involvement and success our female students have had in Project Lead the Way, our teachers drive this so well, the credit goes to them. We had a female team win a state competition last spring
A6 the best example of how technical and vocational ed enhances learning is right in your local FFA program. Hands on, leadership and teamwork. All are supported through this program. We have missed the boat-we need to use these programs as models of 21st Cent Learning #suptchat
A7 Differentiated enrichment opportunities are critical for all students to foster continuous improvement, critical thinking and innovation. Additional challenges, opportunities and supports are also important for identified gifted students. #SuptChat
We set a goal to get every student one or more relevant career experiences, ideally internships or apprenticeships. Since 2014, business partners have gone from 74 to 500. Based on PLTW research. More to come #SuptChat
A6: Am also eager to follow @CrosstownHigh Crosstown HS in Memphis; recipient of some @XQAmerica funding; will have remarkable interactions with businesses. #suptchat
A7 AP and G/T programs are there for the students who are ready to take learning to the next level. They allow students to think about things in ways they might not have before. All Ss should have access to these courses in our schools. #suptchat
A7: I have yet to find the school where majority of teachers believe that they could not write a better, rigorous course than the AP's. AP's suck up a HUGE amount of school O2 #suptchat
A7. We are looking past “gifted” and into the realm of developing talent of every student. Our minority and Low Income S enrollment in our most rigorous courses has increased exponentially as we’ve worked to achieve equity and growth for all. #SuptChat
A7 all have their place in future thinking schools, but we can not forget the students that are gifted with their hands and technical skills. Learning for all! #suptchat
A6 #suptchat: we offer AP and dual credit for those eligible in 9-12. Also have advanced classes in middle school. Increasing numbers at all levels yearly. Very important for students to have opportunities to participate and be stretched.
A7. We are looking past “gifted” and into the realm of developing talent of every student. Our minority and Low Income S enrollment in our most rigorous courses has increased exponentially as we’ve worked to achieve equity and growth for all. #SuptChat
A7 #suptchat we instituted open enrollment in AP several years ago and it has been a wonderful element of our school culture. The past two years we have made a lot of headway with the college to expand dual enrollment. We now have CNA and are working on pharmacy tech, as well
A7. Those programs and opportunities are components of our curriculum continuum that allow us to meet the needs of ALL learners. As a small rural SD we are proud to offer “college in the HS” courses for our Ss. Ss can earn up to 18 college credits before they leave us. #suptchat
A7: We need to offer programs to meet the needs of ALL students. We have Gov. School Program, CTE, AP, and Dual Enrollment through @PatrickHenryCC. Students can earn an Assoc. Degree at no cost prior to HS Graduation #suptchat
A8 Continuous learning from other #students, teachers, parents, #leaders, #superintendents, #schools, school districts, states and countries is critical. Discussing common visions and goals can guide planning and assessment of progress. #SuptChat
A7 am most interested in what the key dispositions are that create success for life in this century empathic, collaborative, emotionally responsive, creative, humble, solution-finding, activated #New Renaissance #suptchat
Trying to build a team who knows they are valued and cared about as people first, professionals second. I strive everyday to see them for greater than they see themselves and let that define my leadership #suptchat
A8: Our admin team engages in monthly PD that is curated by a different team member each month. The last meeting of each month is also dedicated to a Ad Team Tune-up where we discuss our team practices and processes and make improvements. #SuptChat
In order to do something better, it helps to look honestly at how "what you've always done" has kept the world segregated. The world does not change itself. #SuptChat
A7. We are looking past “gifted” and into the realm of developing talent of every student. Our minority and Low Income S enrollment in our most rigorous courses has increased exponentially as we’ve worked to achieve equity and growth for all. #SuptChat
A8. We have a culture of innovation, & our employees know that @Maine207 we hire people to disrupt the organization to move us forward. We coach all teachers annually & we coach our leaders too; in addition we are active in key networks instructionally, finance & HR. #SuptChat
A8: I help my leaders reach their goals, some set stretch goals (which I like), and I provide unique learning experiences they can't find everywhere. Right @MCUSDSupe ? #suptchat
A7: We focus on differentiating for the needs of all students, including gifted and talented. Providing opportunities during school and beyond the school day is essential. #suptchat
A8 #suptchat I've found maximizing their participation with students in their projects, activities, etc. has made a huge difference in their leadership. Not only do they stay connected with kids, they keep their perspective on what it takes for teachers to truly engage students

Q8 - We once did a cooking competition based around leadership, our new teachers were involved in an art project led by one of our awesome art teachers, and we've spent a lot of time learning about DiSC and how to use it in team interactions #suptchat
A8: I find it increasingly critical that edu-leaders get some degree of formal training in org leadership and change management; can't just learn this from a few book circles #suptchat
Our seniors this year will graduate from a high school in which every T every year had an instructional coaching plan. We don't know of another yet. #SuptChat

A8 Participating as a leader in #IAASE with my colleagues like @melissat1130 and @NTDSE so that special education and student services are at the center of every conversation in the districts we lead. #LB65#suptchat
A8 #suptchat we also do a pretty extensive SMART goal setting process each year with each administrator. They set two "standard" and two highly "stretch" goals and we review them throughout the year to monitor progress and strategize
A8 #suptchat:
One of our principals is in AASA aspiring superintendent academy facilitated by Mr. Lubelfield and Mr. Polyak. Monthly trainings on various topics. I do observations with them periodically, we have data meetings monthly, try to embed PD in their daily practice.

A8: I find it increasingly critical that edu-leaders get some degree of formal training in org leadership and change management; can't just learn this from a few book circles #suptchat
A6: It is obvious, but not all kids are good at "traditional school". CTE allows kids to connect when they may not have in the traditional model.

A8: Leadership teams at the district and school levels who work together and value what each person brings to the table. A culture of "we"! #suptchat#d100pride
A8 more personalized focus - more inquiry focus and we’ve flipped leadership meetings for most part to be development focused / our leaders form triads to work together in peer coaching, project focus #suptchat
Archive of tonight’s #suptchat will be shared soon! Thank you for joining the International Chat for superintendents and eduleaders @npolyak@participate see you next month
