Thanks Ben. I actually can manage it pretty well during the day. Nighttime is a different story! Have to drink lots of coffee to keep me going!

Waking up in the wee hours of the morning. Nothing much to do but focus on work, no kids, no wife, there's the pup, but if I take him for a walk & give him a treat it usually allows him to rest again. #bfc530
GM #bfc530 Looking to propose changes to our HS Bell schedule and we’re collecting options from various places. If anyone has their HS schedule that they love, would you consider DMing me? Thanks!!
Yup! Temps near or below zero before and since the snow and little equipment here to combat any snow, makes for a huge event with only 2 or 3 inches of snow.... #bfc530
Good morning #bfc530 crew 😊 back to school today after a wonderful and restful winter break. My best tip would be to get tasks completed with calming or soft background music. That always keeps me focused.
Best of luck in your new position! #bfc530 Just you being here makes me think that your staff is very lucky and you will lead great things in your school!
You all are probably not surprised that I go back to my Covey tools...best way to be productive is to avoid spending time in Quads III & especially IV and invest more time in II (and keep the main thing the main thing). #bfc530
I'm better if I make myself a list with tentative times attached.
And my list needs to be either hand written or printed out if I made it on the computer.
I think it's something about the satisfaction of physically crossing items off!
#bfc530
Headphones are huge for me to be productive, so I can relate to some kids wanting to use them. Many times music doesn’t matter but blocking outside noise is a key for me #bfc530
I try to intentionally turn off. I'm also not much of a phone checker when I'm with ppl. For productivity, I bullet journal and keep several calendars. #BFC530
Im not great at judging how long something is going to take. I sometimes block away a lot of time to do something that ends up being fairly simple and quick. #bfc530
I embrace distractions instead of trying to shut them out. Looking at websites, doing social media, and watching TV can be inspiring. Taking a break to play games can be refreshing. I’ve gotten some of my best ideas while “distracted.” #bfc530

#bfc530 When I feel overwhelmed by technology, I take out whatever #book I'm currently #reading, and #read one chapter. That 10-15 minutes away from a screen helps me refocus.
My former principal used to write everything he needed to do on a post it & place it on his blotter. When he accomplished it, he crumbled it & tossed it in garbage as a feeling of accomplishment. #bfc530
Indeed. Have the discipline to go after the low hanging fruit, but also to DO SOMETHING each day on the big tasks. Action is the best cure for procrastination (that's what I emphasize to my Ss anyway). #bfc530
#bfc530 If I have lot to do, I sometimes set a timer for 15 minutes. If I break everything down into 15 minute blocks, it all seems much more easily managed.
Best productivity tips ... do what is important first ... wait we’re teachers so that definition of “importance” may not mean the same to everyone. #bfc530
I must say that this year my job got more complicated than years past. @msonenote is everything for me. I dont know what id do without it at this point. #BFC530
I am a whole to part person..so it is just how I have always been. We were trained to have plans done for a week; so I do..but then perfect them every morning. #bfc530

I select three major work goals for the day, break them down (schedule), and then give myself a short break after finishing each one. Productive once the transition back to the next goal is mastered. #bfc530
Yes! This works especially will when you share a space. My office mate and I let that be our signal about the level of work we were doing. #zonedin#bfc530
The office I work out of is off of the library. It’s great to be easily accessible, but sometimes I need to work uninterrupted. Headphones help with that. #bfc530
#bfc530 From Dale Carnegie “Think of your life as an hourglass....You and I and everyone else are like this hourglass...if we do not take [tasks] one at a time and let them pass...slowly and evenly, then we are bound to break our own...structure.”
That's great advice Gina - advice that I have a tough time following!
I actually just bought a book called The Joy of Imperfection. Hopefully it'll help!
#bfc530
To Do Lists are great as are Don't Do Lists. "If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when will you have time to do it over?" John Wooden #BFC530
...or to reach out and help others. I'm really fortunate to have a great team that's always looking out for each other to help our collective productivity. #bfc530
Tweets now refusing to load for me, have a good day educator friends. I’ll check the thread again later, you’ve given me some good ideas -as usual #bfc530
Unfortunately, this leads to a crushing stationery dependence for me - a list is so much more enticing when it's on lovely paper, written in pretty ink #bfc530
I would think in the hectic times it helps to see things are being accomplished no matter how slowly rather than the feeling that it is all never ending #bfc530
Agreed...that's the essence of things like Genius Hour and Google's famous "20% time." It just can't be where one spends a significant amount of time. Then it becomes counterproductive. #bfc530
Google Keep is incredible. I have it on my phone and can jot down notes on the run, then open them on my computer. You can color code them, add labels, put in pictures. Yes! I recommend it. #BFC530
I know right! So as you do your ‘To Do Lists’ and you think of all those other smaller things that you could do but it’s not essential, put onto your Don’t Do List. Avoids getting sidetracked into non or semi productive tasks. #bfc530
Yes, I think it's 10:45. I will get you the schedule. I'm at the middle school, so we have A & B days for cycles and electives. Is that what you have @MrEandre? #BFC530

Wow! That’s long! When you go down that path the Ts really need to be on their game and be planning really engaging lessons, lots of chunking, variety and ways of deep diving into topics. #bfc530

Avoid distractors by not taking certain calls (fell down on that last night), using signals that I’m working (mostly closed door, Jazz music), usually only my task lamp is on. #bfc530
My head is spinning with all of this schedule talk. I thought our schedule was confusing; we have three different bell schedules at the MS, one for each grade. #BFC530

I just submitted a proposal for the first-ever crowdsourced session selections for #ISTE18
Please take a minute to cast your vote for my session and retweet.
Thank you!

Set goals, tasks, and to-do lists. Be passionate and purposeful and distractions will fade. You’ll bring yourself to a state of mind where your purpose guides your thoughts and actions. Find your “Why” as many motivational speakers say. #bfc530
Yuk! We had that when I was at school. There called fractured timetables. We thought once and decided there were definite benefits in the whole school Gr7-12 having 60 Minute periods. Good for practical subjects, allowed time to explore topics. #bfc530

I have a specific time to do work distraction free. For example: from 7-8 pm for that hour I’ll try and get any work or reading done without any technology etc. #bfc530
#bfc530 I use lists but also follow the 50/10 method of struggling to focus. 50minutes of focused work and step away for 10mins. Helps to refocus and come back to work with fresh eyes and ideas.

Dr. D from Detroit Gm Everyone. As techie as I am, the only thing that keeps me focus is an old fashion “Things to do list”. It’s something about checking off a completed task that keeps me motivated. #BFC530
#bfc530 I loved block schedule, but our blocks we close to 110 minutes long. One thing to consider is start time. I don't think school should start before sunrise. I did a survey last year on Super Bowl night. I had the most sleep of anyone and went to bed late. 1/2

#bfc530 For high school the day should be no longer then 6.5-7 hours long. With a 4 class block schedule this should be plenty of time to cover everything. This means a reduce load on both the students and the teachers. The students have after school activities and jobs.

Correct! That said 5x1hr periods per day across 10 days achieves this! When we decided that our research suggested 60-75 mins beneficial for all subjects. It meant time for deeper learning & fewer classes for Ts. Every school has its own context-base decisions on that #bfc530

Morning, #bfc530. Does procrastination qualify as a productivity trick? Among other tricks I employ: making most of wee hours during quiet a.m., silencing phone, honing inbox zero habits.
