-
-
Hi Christie! Better late than never and you aren't really late! :)
-
Q1: Why is trust in the classroom important?
-
Good to see you too!! It was an exhiirating event!
-
Awesome, but crazy! You??
-
The chat misses you!! :) How's your year?
-
Participating in the program with --Very exciting work.
-
A1: Students need to know they are in a safe space. You can't learn if you're concerned about your surrounding. !
-
it's going! Work in progress. How is yours?
-
A1: Trust in the classroom = learning in the classroom -- wo it students won't learn/grow
-
-
That doesn't sound so convincing - it must be the twitter accent
-
A1: Also, for many Ss, their T may be the only positive role model in their life. Being able to trust them is crucial
-
Totally agree - every day is a new adventure!
-
Having parent conferences this week. Somehow half days seem linger than full days!
-
A1: Trust builds security for the students; fosters growth!
-
Without trust Ss won't take risks π₯
-
Oh wow! Already!? Totally agree to that though!
-
-
-
A1: Trust is foundation of all positive relationships in the classroom. Ss must trust T, T must trust Ss, Ss must trust each other
-
A1: Trust is the bedrock of a successful classroom but is assumed that it happens automatically which it does not
-
A1: Relationships built on trust with our students will create spaces for them to feel safe to take risks.
-
now that's a great way to look at it. That will be my new motto!
-
I can't imagine if my students didn't feel safe...would they grow?!
-
I've heard this talk is awesome. Thanks for sharing!
-
A1: If we want Ss to reach for their dreams, we need to allow them to feel we believe in them...trust enhances this experience.
-
This year is very busy but I am excited to be trying new things
-
TOTALLY agree!!! Doesn't happen automatically...
-
A1: Even the youngest students see through an adult they can't trust. No trust=no relationship.
-
A1. Without trust, Ss won't take intellectual risks in the classroom.
-
A1: The great thing about middle school kids is you have to earn their trust and respect. It's a great challenge.
-
great point! It takes work on both ends Ss and Ts
-
Q2: What does trust in the classroom mean to you? Your students?
-
Hey everyone! Dan here. Instructional Coach at Derby Middle School.
-
Everyone says trust = student success. Can students be successful without trust?
-
-
-
A1: Truth and transparency...show your mistakes and your Ss learn a valuable lesson. It's all ok because the others have your back.
-
I can imagine it would be - but must be So cool to earn it! That's a lot more un-trust baggage than a 1st grader!
-
Hi Dan!! Welcome! Happy Tuesday!
-
A2: Trust means fostering a shared culture of risk-taking and a desire to succeed, both for Ts and Ss
-
Thanks for joining us this evening how are you doing? Please join the convo
-
My Kids LOVE to call me out on my mistakes...I make them all the time - lol
-
you really do. School has "failed" many Ss, so I love the challenge to create a positive experience and space for them.
-
A2: Trust means you are confident enough to be your true self with your students. Students know when you have integrity.
-
A2: Ss need to know that their T is a person who is sharing this learning experience with them. They can spot "fake" a mile away!
-
I totally agree it has -- which makes me so sad...but those who get to experience that positive environment are lucky
-
A2: Trust is allowing Ss to be stakeholders in our classrooms. Allowing their voices to be heard and respected.
-
A2b: It's kind of scary but you have to model trust by giving it to your students first before the will give it to you.
-
Q2a: Can students learn without trust?
-
A2: Trust in my room...Ss feel they can be their true selves. No judgment. Be who you are and be proud.
-
A2: To me, trust means (as a S), being able to approach the T no matter the situation and knowing they have your back + care 4 u
-
A2: Trust means taking risks, failing, learning, sharing, and growing together Ts & Ss Ss want honesty
-
A2. Trust=building positive relationships where Ss are willing to share without fear of failure. Ts have to invest in relationships.
-
A2: it means students are emotional taken care of in your class. You know their internal temperature, they share & you share,
-
-
This can be scary but so rewarding. https://t.co/RCGDJAl0wf
-
-
A2: Trust is allowing Ss to be stakeholders in our classrooms. Allowing their voices to be heard and respected.
-
Sharing is vital to fostering the trust https://t.co/xon7lxt7nZ
-
-
A2: it means students are emotional taken care of in your class. You know their internal temperature, they share & you share,
-
A2: Trust in my room...Ss asking what day they can stay after school for extra help. I have their back, too. We're a team.
-
-
-
"Fear of Failure" - SO many are scared of this -- scared to do things wrong get things wrong -- makes me sad
-
absolutely. It's very difficult for many teachers to give up some control. It pays dividends when done systematically.
-
-
Q3: What activities have you used to create a community of trust?
-
so how would you plan a PD around this release of control?
-
A2: Morning Meeting w Share, modeling how to make mistakes, taking time to leran about each other
-
A3: Shared discussion. Ask Ss for feedback and input. Allow their voices to be heard. Share in the risk-taking
-
-
Do you actually wrap (rap)?
-
A3 Everyday all day- take time to get to know your kids. Play sports with them, sing, talk, do whatever you need to get to know them.
-
A3: My Ss created class constitution to express respect for themselves, others, importance of learning, etc...again, we are a TEAM!
-
I work in a building I use morning meetings and guided meditation to build trust and internal peace .
-
I think trust is built every day. All day long
-
A3: At the beginning of the year "open, narrow, close" norms with Ss; make "mistakes" & discuss to problem solve together
-
A3: Asking students to help design classroom space (thx ), choose seats, ask their opinions & feedback on lesson
-
I would LOVE guided meditation! Come to our school!
-
-
So fun! I sing when I get frustrated so that I laugh...or when I need to get a point across - lol
-
Yes! https://t.co/2aMolyJTYn
-
-
A3 Everyday all day- take time to get to know your kids. Play sports with them, sing, talk, do whatever you need to get to know them.
-
Important to add: trust can easily be lost. Ss must know that you are there consistently. Communication is key!
!
-
-
TOTALLY agree!!! Needs to be worked on each day, so it doesnt' get broken
-
-
I purchased a Tibetan singing bowl and we meditate every day and share our thoughts
-
Wait...you do guided meditation with your kids? No wonder you are so calm...
-
I also find that read alouds connect us so much
-
Dude...that is amazing...I need to come to one of those meetings
-
A3: When Ss begin to say, "Hey, girl, hey." when they see you. Disrespect or TRUST? lol
-
It's a lot harder to gain it back the second time. Very important.
-
Yes I have invited guest meditators to join. It is powerful
-
Q4: What does a classroom that has a foundation of trust look and sound like?
-
Oh my goodness -- YES! It's amazing how much they LOVE that! SO lucky to have D.E.A.R. time built in this year!
-
A4. Ts supporting Ss, Ss supporting Ss. Positive talk, engaging conversations.
-
Q4: My answer for Q3 answered this...plus seeing my Ss helping each other complete math HW after school. It's good for the soul.
-
Mutual respect for all and not being afraid to be yourself, speak your mind, celebrate but support as well. https://t.co/jsWkHuz5ik
-
-
Q4: What does a classroom that has a foundation of trust look and sound like?
-
A4: Students working, taking risks, trying new things, sharing their opinions, smiling
-
read aloud is my@most important time of my day
-
Myself. It is not no long about 1-2 minutes of deep breathing. They request it everyday
-
-
Totally agree!! We just finished Quinny & Hopper -- my kids are obsessed!
-
-
I even organized a flash mob one time back in the day!
-
A4: Sounds like a buzz, students engaged, teachers guiding, looks like lots of moving around in a controlled way
-
Kids and teachers who are willing to be vulnerable. Learners taking risks ... That's when innovation thrives! https://t.co/tL4LdYNABV
-
-
Q4: What does a classroom that has a foundation of trust look and sound like?
-
we love mindfulness! I have several apps that help. So good for the Ss
-
-
A4: Ss can share their thoughts freely, T can give more freedom, no bullying + hierarchies.Reminds me of meditation!
-
A4: I see Ts & Ss sharing ideas, collaboration, problem solving, moving with fear; I hear a buzz of ideas
-
Freedom is key. https://t.co/7fWkcduneF
-

-
It is a little more of challenge to build trust in a math class because an answer is either right or wrong. Wrong =failure
-
-
What do you want to chat about next week!?
-
A4: I see Ts & Ss sharing ideas, problem solving, helping, guiding, movement w/o fear; I hear a buzz of discussion
-
But I think trust in math is having the ability to TRY without worrying about wrong or right
-
Or wrong could be a learning opportunity, a chance to explain your thinking. https://t.co/uQsw0sbyRi

Awesome- look forward to the discussion.
-
Thanks for the chat! See ya next time!
-
Thanks Rob! Melissa is a great partner
-
A4: The class has different learning stations with multiple sounds talk to some
-
Gonna do some thinking about this...
-
-
A1: If there is no trust then the nor are willing to take
-
Totally agree, but it is hard to over come a test driven culture where the right answer is connected to self worth-value
-
-
-
ways to build trust. I'd connect with parents to learn more about their child, too.
-
No problem! It is a total team effort with the crew.
