Hey #Champforkids - Alicia from NC - Digital Learning & Media. Here's my relaxing picture... it becomes reality in just a few days. Cannot wait for our @DisneyCruise đđ
A1: As a Phys Ed teacher Ss are constantly on the move which I believe is awesome... but I definitely need work on adding mindfulness breaks & strategies into daily classes #champforkids
A1 Being able to center and self-regulate yourself in the face of situations of all kinds. Being present in situations, and dealing with things as they come. #champforkids
A1: I think mindfulness is making sure that you are paying attention to your Ss needs and situations, esp outside of school, while you are delivering your instruction. It affects how they are able to work more than we know #ChampForKids
A1 my class learns how to regulate their emotions, focus and behavior We do yoga, breathing, reflection. We talk about our thinking, our choices...#ChampForKids
Merissa from TX jumping in and not being shy!
Being present in where you are and what you are doing, not simply going through the motions. Being mindful is a skill many have to really focus on to master.
#champforkids
A1 - It is in âvogue!â To me itâs being patient, kind, empathetic and real with our students. We should be aware of issues in class and address them with respect and dignity. This also helps shape how our students will respond to difficult times. Modelđ #ChampForKids
A1: Mindfulness is a sacrificial act. It requires a person to look outside of themselves and consider others. It presses to move beyond an initial reaction to find the deeper meaning. #champforkids
Hi all. Angelyn Nichols, Professional Learning Specialist, Virginia Beach. Backpacking and camping in the High Sierras has been a longtime favorite of mine! #champforkids
A1: With my little people, it means learning the tools that will help them self-regulate and to be aware of their interactions with others in the classroom and how their action affect those around them. #champforkids
A1- I see it as really being present in the moment-active listening to your Ss, truly observing them, being aware of their needs- and my own! #champforkids
A1 mindfulness to me means being present for my students and there are days that this is really hard but I make a point to really listen to them. #ChampForKids
A1b - While I do love the term âmindfulnessâ, itâs really about how our class community functions. There will always be times of stress. Being mindful is part of how our daily classroom lessons make kids feel. #champforkids
A1 Being present and being aware of yourself and those around you. Making sure the decisions you make take account for their feelings as well as your own. #champforkids
A1 Mindfulness is being aware.
Every day is an opportunity for us to listen, respond, and always keep our Ss as the focus of all decisions! #ChampForKids
A1: Mindfulness means teaching ourselves and our students to practice being in the moment, mindfully aware, without judgement. in the classroom it can look like noticing our five senses, breathing with intention, tapping, intentionally inviting calm in. #champforkids
A1: Mindfulness is knowing everything possible about every student. You must know what they are going through and how they tick. If you arenât being mindful, or try to fake it, they KNOW. Stay real.
#ChampForKids
I think being mindful in the classroom means to not only be aware of your Ss and what could potentially interfere with their learning, but to also be personally aware of your feelings, emotions, and needs in various situations...being centered! #champforkids
A1: Mindfulness in the classroom meant being present in the hearts & minds of the kids I served. I made instructional decisions on purpose, I asked kids what they want & think, I held my kids to the highest expectations. Now I'm learning to do this for adults :) #champforkids
A1: For me mindfulness means being aware of both mine and my studentsâ state in the present and how the future may be impacted. It helps me to navigate my day and make learning more engaging based on my Ss needs/interests. #champforkids
A1~
~ treating each other with kindness, respect
~being aware of the words you use with Ss & & our families & making sure the words are based on praise, support & encouragement
~focusing in on the little things to many littles are â big moments â â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
#champforkids
A2: When Ss are in the room and working independently, I try to just stop and observe. It reminds me of my why and gives me great joy every time. Creates a proud edu-mama moment. #champforkids
A2: I love to unplug from device and plug in to nature (forest bathing!) or other people. That being said, I also rely on apps to help with the guided imagery piece of calm, to quiet our hearts and minds.
#champforkids
#ChampForKids Here's one to soon the mind a bit. A1: Mindfulness is not focusing on goals, rather boiling the overall goal into the small, focused amt that allows you and the students to be fully present a la @EckhartTolle
A2 I need to get better at being present. I often get so wrapped up in the minutiae of life that I forget to stop and take a breath. My team know when I read my breaking point and need a break! #champforkids
a2: Start each day with a clean slate, making sure you carve out a piece of your day for yourself to accomplish something that makes you happy :) --> my current go to is running #champforkids
A2: Self-check-ins... How am I feeling? Why am I feeling this? Laughing. Giving and getting some paw (this is my version of a fist bump)... #champforkids
Hello from NY! My name is Reyna. Iâm a Co-Teach Interventionist & Mindfulness Coach for first and second graders! Happy to be here! #relectionroom#ChampForKids@dina_dreistadt
A2- I use "5 Finger Breathing" with my kids, but also for me! It helps me take a step back and refocus. Not gonna lie a piece of @DoveChocolate helps too! I savor it and really feel, smell, and taste it. That moment helps me to reconnect with myself #champforkids
A1: Being aware of my state of mind and helping others be aware of theirs. Also, having tools to help get back to a positive relaxed state of mind that allows progress and growth to occur #champforkids
A2 - My favorite lesson that I try to use and also pass on to every student is âtrain your brain!â Actions and words get developed by a mindset of positivity and happiness. Everyday I enter school I attempt to spread and promote a happy, positive place. #champforkids
#ChampForKids Q2. Repeating the mantra no "past no future" can be a great first cue to explain in short terms that the importance is on the here and Now, the only thing that truly exists.
Q2 I take time to âBe Stillâ and reflect on all the greatness that happens in my life! Itâs important to do something you LOVE every day. Listen to that favorite song, see that favorite person, etc.... why not do it daily if you love it?!?!? #champforkids
A2: I always try to take a moment when my grade level fam are in the hallways to make everyone laugh. I feel like nothing can make someone feel included or forget their stress like a joke @jenmalitvbcps@TonyJTrovato@AndiLarson22@SandiHank and Bookout #ChampForKids
A2: There is always, always something to be grateful for. In teaching the littles, their zero-filter and honesty always give me a reason to smile! Today, we had a leaf fight during recess! đ #champforkids
A2 Teaching in the moment requires us to hit the pause button.
We canât let pacing guides drive our instruction.
Remember that every student and every moment counts! #ChampForKids
YES! Mantras can be so SO powerful. Here are some of my faves:
Judge less. Love more.
Be where your feet are.
Now. Here. This.
Inhale confidence. Exhale doubt.
Peace begins with me.
#champforkids
I do a lot of yoga which has helped me center myself. Breathing is a great strategy as well. I like to meditate on focus to keep my eye on the prize and keep me going when times are tough.
#champforkids
A2: I take time to be intentional with each student, this helps me determine their social needs. I meditate during lunch or on a break and/or I get outdoors for a minute to breathe fresh air. #champforkids
A2: Not sure if it is mindfulness, per se, but I got teased for always checking notifications on my watch while speaking. Broke my heart. Took someone else to recognize one of my blind spots. I have tried to minimize distractions and be present in conversations. #champforkids
A2~
~ we celebrate moments that are important to the Ss w/dancing, kind words of encouragement exchanges in role playing scenarios, deep breathing, &tons of LAUGHTER
~we also work on being aware each otherâs feelings by engaging in purposeful conv about emotions
#champforkids
A2: I surround myself with positive people, have apps on my phone that send me reminders throughout the day, & make a point to take time to gather my thoughts and regroup when/if needed. #champforkids
A1- Mindfulness and self-awareness go hand-in-hand. Ss need to be aware of their strengths and weaknesses (both academically and personally), and giving Ss an opportunity to reflect and be mindful about these things is so beneficial! Give them time to reflect! #ChampForKids
A1: Mindfulness can be as simple as pausing to become more aware of the present moment with a kind heart and a curious mind. Practices can be done anywhere and at any time to support you in becoming be the best version of yourself. #ChampForKids
A3: It removes the insane pace of education. We have to move at so quickly that it's easy to forget to take time to enjoy being with them. Kids are cool. #ITeachKids#champforkids
A3 - It happened today. I was watching them work at the board. They were laughing, joking and having a great time. Also learning. Teaching should be amazingâ€ïž #champforkids
I love those times when you can really connect with students through personal accounts and creative endeavors. Being able to stray from the lesson to engage in a meaningful interaction with one or more Ss such an incredible experience!
#champforkids
A3- I love sitting with my Ss during lunch in the cafeteria. No emails, no paperwork, just being together. They share so much of who they are which I can then tie back into lessons as authentic connections. Not to mention the example I set about + interactions #champforkids
Hi all, wow I guess just a little late! Lisa, speech language pathologist, from Minnesota. This is a gorgeous site from my lake place in Minnesota. #champforkids
Q3 this week I went to complete evals and the Ss were having so much fun with the activity I just had to get in with them and forget the âworkâ part! We had fun and made some great memories. #champforkids
A3: Every Tuesday I have lunch bunch with Ss that I work with. I love this time because we really get to know each other better. Each week new kids join our group and we sit around, eat together, talk and laugh. #champforkids
A3: Definitely taking such an engaged, deep dive into creating, for example with the students making their grad video, one of those lose track of time, so engaged and focused kind of times. #champforkids
A3: I'm going to have to go with our field trip to the pumpkin patch last week! So much fun climbing on hay bales and going down the slides!! #champforkids
A3 one of my favorite rituals is our morning family meetings. It is a time that I can get a pulse check on my kids and we connect as a class family #ChampForKids
A3: Taking students to this serenity spot is a fantastic way to spend mindful minutes. Taking in the colors of the #kindness rocks in our hands, smelling the outdoors, breathing in fresh air, feeling the crushed granite beneath our shoes. So soothing & calming. #ChampForKids
A3: The benefit is more authentic relationships. Ss â€ïž to have fun with the teacher and transcend the typical day. Mine love to see me belly laugh at an experience we share. They always bring it up, those moments matter so much. #champforkids
A3: Any day that I can slow down and enjoy one of their stories. One would never believe that middle school Ss would get so excited to share, but they are dying for us to listen to them. This is one of the highlights of my job. #champforkids
A3 Yesterday! I signed out the atrium and auditorium to do a live action simulation of particle movement and make @flipgrid videos. I just walked around and loved seeing every student working on them! I was so proud #champforkids
Being in the moment is part of just taking it all in. The positive stuff, and also those times that challenge us. Both can be great motivators to love what we do. âDonât sweat the small stuffâ is a great quote. #champforkids
A3~ we eat lunch together in the classroom on Fridays~ love this for soooo many reasons ...
~togetherness
~community
~loudness
~kids being kids
~sharing our Show & Tells
~diversity in foods is super awesomesauce â€ïž
#ChampForKids
A2: One practice I enjoy doing is on my drive to work. I try to notice one new thing Iâve never seen before. It helps bring my attention to the little changes we forget to pay attention to within the monotony of routines. It brings me joy. #ChampForKids
A3 I enjoy the moment when the kids are working on a group project and they are listening and supporting each other đ Love when they are kind and co-operative #champforkids
A3: I get to go on community outings and last spring I enjoyed prom dress shopping with an awesome student. Just looking, but loved every second of it. #champforkids
A3: Meeting on the carpet at the end of the day to review, discuss, and reflect. Itâs a time when I realize what worked and what needs revamped. Ss always seem to do their best to âshow offâ what they learned that day.
#ChampForKids
A4 - I show some of my posts. Never post something negative. Think about if youâre spreading kindness, happiness and love. If not, donât send it. Use the tool for the greater good. #champforkids
A4 our screen time is very #intentional our main focus is developing oral language and social skills through play. Play is the work of Prek. #ChampForKids
A4: Take time to talk about being truly aware of what weâre sending out into the world- once you click send, you canât take it back. Itâs important for Ss to understand how things can be misinterpreted & it can lead to negative outcomes. We focus on spreading good. #champforkids
A4: So important to have this discussion with our Ss, to continue to remind them of the importance of their digital footprint.
Have them look at their last 20 posts and see if it's in line with who they are and want to be. @careacter#ChampForKids
A3: Last year, our class participated in a practice where we envisioned standing before a friend & thanked them for being a friend. It melted my heart to see them courageously walk up to each other & express their gratitude toward each other totally unprompted. #champforkids
A4- When a student sends me an email that is A TOTAL MESS (which happens all the time), I ask them to reword it and send it again. They have to realize that emails are not text messages. #ChampForKids
A4: We use activities to help students explore what if feels like to find their inner pause button. We learn about how the brain works and then we come up with practices they can draw upon to help make Mindful descisions. #ChampForKids
