#Satchat is a weekly Twitter conversation for current and emerging school leaders that takes place every Saturday morning at 7:30 EST. Co-founders and co-moderators are Brad Currie, Scott Rocco, and Billy Krakower. #Satchat's mission is to expand educator's Personal Learning Network (PLNs) that in turn will promote the success of all students.
"I see these professed pro-life Christian adults relentlessly going after the students of Parkland and others: and realize they'd have been passionate and loud and unyielding in defense of them—while they were in the womb."

Making sure schools follow the law is a responsibility that shouldnt be left to parents. Still, the reality is that in addition to parenting a child w/disabilities, you also have the job of being a watchdog over the implementation of your child’s education https://t.co/nCLk3nHdA9
Education decision makers must hear from teachers in order to understand practical implications of policies on kids. @PTACVoice was designed to allow this to happen. This is how we improve #education. Join us! Your voice can lead to better #edpolicy for students. #satchat#edchat

Welcome to #Satchat with guest moderator @Sarahdateechur we will be discussing diving into grassroots movements for the next 30 minutes. Please introduce yourself.
A1: My EDU pain point is communication. I strive to communicate well with my colleagues and admin, but even though I do well I know it's something I really could be doing better with not only them but my Ss and in my personal life as well. #satchat
Good morning, it's a pleasure to be here. Sarah from the DC area. I'm a regional technology coordinator, affiliate faculty, and founder of #EduMatch. #satchat
Welcome to #Satchat with guest moderator @Sarahdateechur we will be discussing diving into grassroots movements for the next 30 minutes. Please introduce yourself.
Good morning and welcome to #Satchat. Today we have the great @sarahdateechur guest moderating a conversation on grassroots movements. Here are the questions: https://t.co/9RLwU04ytc. Please introduce yourself.
Good morning #satchat! I'm Carla, secondary principal at The Commuity for Learning, Santo Domingo, DR,Where we're in the midst of building the 2nd half of our high school & hoping hurricane Beryl doesn't mess with us!
Good morning #SatChat! This is Nishi joining from northern Virgina. I was a high school English teacher and I start as an instructional tech coach next week.
Good morning #SatChat! I’m urbie from chandler, arizona. I design and manage (oy vey!) broadcast video learning experiences for clinicians & law enforcement.. I’m a +3 grandparent.
A2: I feel like the resources that exist are the relationships present between people, and the only way to communicate better is by seeing an example and being the one to reach out and have those conversations so that we're all mindfully trying #satchat
A3: Social media is a great way to help with this issue, by sharing things that are going on in my classroom or questions I have to other faculty on Twitter and opening a dialogue is another great avenue of communication #satchat
Sorry I couldn't stay but hopefully my answers contribute to the discussion! I'm about to be out of a service zone so I'll check in & 💜 other answers when I'm back on Twitter. Have an awesome day all!! #satchat
If you had a magic wand, what would be a problem in your sphere of influence that you would make disappear? (i.e. What is one of your pain points in education that you can actually do something about?) #satchat
A1 I would make school more about problem solving, curiosity, and discovery, and less about memorization, homework, and grades. Our students should be motivated by their our questions and interests, not by a report card or state test. #satchat
Q1. If you had a magic wand, what would be a problem in your sphere of influence that you would make disappear? (i.e. What is one of your pain points in education that you can actually do something about?) #satchat
#SatChat A1a It was with some chagrin a few years ago during my defunct PhD chase I learned of Howard Zihn’s “A People’s History of the United States” and Paolo Friere’s “Pedagogy of the Oppressed”. I’d change that..
A1: I would love to explore different models at the secondary level that allow for more common planning time among departments and cross-content. #Satchat
A1: If I had a magic wand, the thing I would fix in education is time being wasted on PD that doesn’t really result in learning or change in the classroom. #satchat
A1: The dividing line between SpEd and GenEd (in some places, not all) when it comes to planning, collaboration and the mindset that these kids are "ours" not "yours". #satchat
A1 Equity in school, allowing every students to have equal access to learning, materials and whatever else they may need to learn in the way they want to learn! #satchat
Q1: If I had a magic wand, I would make the problem of teacher anxiety over transitioning to a more student-centered, more skill-based curriculum disappear. It's all about #growthmindset#satchat
A1: My magic wand ✨ would be directed at family/community engagement. In 2018 it is still sad to see & witness the disconnect between school & home. #satchat
#SatChat A1b Seems like some significant chunks of the subjective material I was taught/introduced to during my formative K-12 years was [bunk?] biased. HMW be [more] objective in teaching subjects where perspective matters?
A1: I would want the focus on accountability to shift from surface learning to deep learning. Pressures to "cover" content rather than learning at deep levels is driving teachers away and is not engaging for our students. We could change that. #satchat#AODL
Q1. If you had a magic wand, what would be a problem in your sphere of influence that you would make disappear? (i.e. What is one of your pain points in education that you can actually do something about?) #satchat
I’m new to #satchat I’m blair from Kentucky! Currently working at @TME_tigers#tmgenius just sitting in to observe what this chats all about 😊I’m ready to learn!
A1 I’d make the achievement gap in reading and literacy disappear. Ss who have fallen behind in their reading ability have such a hard time catching up once they’re past my reach of K-5. #satchat@sarahdateechur
A1 My greatest effort is for educators/school leaders to believe creating the conditions for thriving wellbeing schools is actually a hard measure and a leading indicator of measurable outcomes. Wellbeing matters. #satchat
Q1: If I had a magic wand, I would make the problem of teacher anxiety over transitioning to a more student-centered, more skill-based curriculum disappear. It's all about #growthmindset#satchat
A1: I would remove all the test and exam terms, and make them more meaningful for students. It’s nothing but a rote learning and the knowledge students memorized for those tests generally disappear right after they finish the term. #satchat
A1 I would break down the walls between classroom - less division of learning into subject areas. We've been working on it, but the educational systems in place make it hard. #satchat
A1 When I wave my wand the walls between disciplines comes down so time is conserved , fewer transitions issues but mostly we don’t live in silos , why do we teach that way ? #satchat
Q1: If I had a magic wand, I would make the problem of teacher anxiety over transitioning to a more student-centered, more skill-based curriculum disappear. It's all about #growthmindset#satchat
I’m new to #satchat I’m blair from Kentucky! Currently working at @TME_tigers#tmgenius just sitting in to observe what this chats all about 😊I’m ready to learn!
A1 de-emphasize standardized testing. More student input and more student choice. Give students a real-world problem and let them solve it. Provide access to the foundational skills they’ll need and let them soar. #satchat
A2 thinking a lot about kids w adverse childhood experiences - how to get deeper implementation of strategies and empathic responses to children who live in trauma-inducing environments #Satchat
A1 #satchat My magic want would eliminate the negativity that I see in so many faculty rooms. In the meantime, I choose to avoid it. Looking back, I see that most of the negative #teachers I have worked with are no longer in the profession.
My influence includes executive school mentoring and partnering to provide and create a framework around strengths development + wellbeing + engagement aimed at outcomes. #satchat
A1 I would use it to ensure that the narrative around education is driven by professional educators, rather than largely being driven by politicians.
#satchat
A1: I would love to harness all the downtime I see in classrooms. I would love to see all engaging in rigorous tasks that have personal meaning for kids. Know your kids #bynameByNeed#Satchat
A1 - Lack of high quality mental health resources for students who need them, along with the stigma around treating those mental illnesses. Kids can't learn until they feel safe and secure (a la Maslow). #satchat
I asked @gcouros this Q (see pic) in an #InnovatorsMindset IGTV. He answered: "The disconnect between what educators know is right, and what they're tasked to do. How we teach both kids & curriculum is the innovation. It's how we think. It's about the process." #HamstraHighlights
A1: I am committed to helping all people in our building to be learners who feel safe, supported and trusted EVERY DAY! We need to have schools that are filled with passion! #satchat
I read Zinn’s book. It’s really tough to try and teach the truth while also following the curriculum. I try and give students the resources they need to discover the truth on their own. #satchat
A1 I would help us all better understand that the best test prep is effective instruction all year long and that state Assessments are a snapshot of student understanding #satchat
A1- If I had a magic wand... I would want all kids to love learning and love school. And I would want all Ts to provide engaging, student-centered learning. #Satchat
Q2. What resources already exist that help to fill this need that you have identified, either partially or fully? What do they do well, and where do they fall short? #satchat
A1 #satchat My magic want would eliminate the negativity that I see in so many faculty rooms. In the meantime, I choose to avoid it. Looking back, I see that most of the negative #teachers I have worked with are no longer in the profession.
A1 de-emphasize standardized testing. More student input and more student choice. Give students a real-world problem and let them solve it. Provide access to the foundational skills they’ll need and let them soar. #satchat

A1 #satchat My magic want would eliminate the negativity that I see in so many faculty rooms. In the meantime, I choose to avoid it. Looking back, I see that most of the negative #teachers I have worked with are no longer in the profession.
A2 Project-based learning is moving us in the right direction. Makerspaces are also a great resource. Student access depends on the teacher and school. Not every T is ready to jump into #pbl and not every school has room or resources for a #makerspace. #satchat
A2 - Blogs and books on myths of education exist...but it's tough to reach all teachers with this evidence and many universities still teach learning styles. #satchat
Q2. What resources already exist that help to fill this need that you have identified, either partially or fully? What do they do well, and where do they fall short? #satchat
A1 I would help us all better understand that the best test prep is effective instruction all year long and that state Assessments are a snapshot of student understanding #satchat
Just heard on cnn that Va and NY are only 2 states w mental health being addressed in curriculum - I’m proud of a teen team from #acps who lobbied that in Va to passage of a bill into law https://t.co/3qnO9Vn3FW#Satchat
A2: The answer to pointless PD is to take control of your own. I’ve done that by joining communities of Pratcitce with @Participate. After all, I know what I want to know more about and learning always has been a social thing! Learn more here:

A1 #satchat My magic want would eliminate the negativity that I see in so many faculty rooms. In the meantime, I choose to avoid it. Looking back, I see that most of the negative #teachers I have worked with are no longer in the profession.
Every environment has resources which can positively impact student achievement. Identifying these resources and connecting them in a systematic manner helps us. We are currently in the process of connecting these dots. #satchat
Q2. What resources already exist that help to fill this need that you have identified, either partially or fully? What do they do well, and where do they fall short? #satchat
I’m a pre-service teacher from Ohio with a question: should we try to restrain from giving our students value judgement praise like “good job” and instead use positive feedback? #satchat
What do you think are the most critical areas of focus? Or, from another perspective, what do you think are the greatest wastes of time and resources?
#satchat
A2: Using collaborative time to design or redesign learning experiences focused on complex problem solving and real-world application of knowledge and skills is key. The best PD is where there is a takeaway that can be immediately implemented. #satchat#AODL
Q2. What resources already exist that help to fill this need that you have identified, either partially or fully? What do they do well, and where do they fall short? #satchat
A1: Or I would replace all the techs in my school for better one and set up students’ WiFi for their learning. If they were set, I would fully utilize them for students’ learning. But currently they are too old, too slow and some don’t work. #satchat
Q1. If you had a magic wand, what would be a problem in your sphere of influence that you would make disappear? (i.e. What is one of your pain points in education that you can actually do something about?) #satchat
A2 There are many ways to assess learning without giving standardized tests. We have many of these procedures on Our Assessments page https://t.co/OEDdXI9tqz Students also need to know how they are doing. Feedback https://t.co/ceQhasNULf#satchat
A2. The world has great problem potential. Schools p, however, are rarely designed to explore and frame problems. We seem to be in the business of teaching children how to answer adult created questions. Perhaps less adult talking & tasking? #satchat
A2:The answer to pointless PD is to take control of your own learning.I’ve done that by joining communities of Pratcitce with @Participate. After all, I know what I want to know more about and learning always has been a social thing! Learn more:

A2 Great data and research exists that shows wellbeing, engagement matters in adult and student performance. It’s rarely included in principal and superintendent development programs. #satchat
A2: EdCamps, MOOCs, Twitter chats, PLN opportunities can all help - it’s a matter of connecting Ts to the opps and finding ways to validate the learning. #satchat
A2: We need time to strengthen the passion and trust in our school- dedicating PD time to explore @simonsinek 's work, along with the elements of Hattie's research with the biggest impact! #satchat
A2) My district has outlined family/community engagement in its strategic plan & has developed systematic strategies to bridge gap between school & home. Most of these have been Surveys however that don’t reach the intended population. #Satchat
A2:Making your staff feel your support and presence by fully investing in them goes a long way. Ps are busy. Take your laptop and do your work in the back of a few classrooms. You’ll see and hear things that help you understand our teachers & students. #satchat
#satchat#A2 Staying connected to #educators on #Twitter has helped me to stay positive and avoid negativity. I can also choose to connect with the #teachers in my #school who are positive and supportive; it doesn't matter if we #teach the same content or not
A2 Project-based learning is moving us in the right direction. Makerspaces are also a great resource. Student access depends on the teacher and school. Not every T is ready to jump into #pbl and not every school has room or resources for a #makerspace. #satchat
A2) In Tn the Standardized test keeps failing, that helps. I have been able to “retain” students # for an extra time in elementary school or push them forward to the next level. #satchat
The most crucial is effective use of technology in classrooms, global competentencies, student agency and inquiry, and student voice and action. The most ineffective are strange top down...we chose this PD #satchat
A1) Ensuring that every student has more than one educator in the building that advocates for their success by valuing their gifts, culture, and learning styles. #satchat
A2 Thankfully avenues such as Twitter exist for Teachers to talk to the profession globally and in the process other stakeholders also. A Senate Inquiry in Australia in 1998 noted the disparity between the public discourse and the discourse within the profession.
#satchat
#SatChat A2a There’s the rub.. the resources are out there. Yesterday early morning I was out flying my drones when something caught my eye [photo, CW from top-left].. five graves.
The resources are out there on the Internet but lost in the weeds..
Negativity must be stopped. Tell your staff, when we hear something negative counter with a positive. Make the positives so loud that they drown out the negativity. Be the change. #satchat
A1 #satchat My magic want would eliminate the negativity that I see in so many faculty rooms. In the meantime, I choose to avoid it. Looking back, I see that most of the negative #teachers I have worked with are no longer in the profession.
A2- The best resource we have is the people in our schools - teachers, staff, parents - we are all responsible for making our schools welcoming & positive. #Satchat
A1. I would ensure that every school had adequate, job-embedded training in restorative justice and mindfulness. The social-emotional aspects of learning require ever more intense focus and energy. #satchat
Q1. If you had a magic wand, what would be a problem in your sphere of influence that you would make disappear? (i.e. What is one of your pain points in education that you can actually do something about?) #satchat
A2. The absence of problem framing and solving by learners seems to be in conflict with the mindset that believes there are set things to learn by set ages. I’d like to aim a magic wand at that assumption. #satchat
Q2. What resources already exist that help to fill this need that you have identified, either partially or fully? What do they do well, and where do they fall short? #satchat
Is there such a thing as objective reality? We talk often in our preservice program about giving S's tools to do the debunking on their own because 'truth' is rarely neutral #satchat
A2: GAE (and their many extensions such as Padlet and EdPuzzle) definitely help move the focus away from teachers and place emphasis on students' communicating and collaborating in creative ways #satchat
A2: As far as student organization, I think some of the online platforms like Google Drive allow students to keep all of their files in one place. They are also accessible from anywhere with internet access. #satchat
A2 There are so many excellent books to study and so many resources to suit all different kinds of learners needs. We have so much knowledge about the fact that critically conscious teachers make a big difference when it comes to learning outcomes for Ss #satchat
A2 We have some great literacy interventions in place (LLI, guided reading, Wilson Language). They target what Ss need to progress pretty accurately so Ts are laser focused. All resources are only as good as they are implemented. #satchat@sarahdateechur
Q2. What resources already exist that help to fill this need that you have identified, either partially or fully? What do they do well, and where do they fall short? #satchat
A2 The greatest resource beyond an intentional framework for wellbeing, strengths & engagement are district culture, goals, and outcomes. Tying these constructs authentically to the district is what makes them matter. #satchat
A2: all the needed resources are available to us all. Partner with community. Convince Ts, Ps, and Admin that student choice and PBL and focus on learning in place of testing is not obstacle to college if that is preference for Ss & Ps. #satchat
I have been working with two secondary schools on SEL and it should truly be embedded in everything we do. It requires a culture shift and is definitely focused on the whole child. Yes! #satchat
"My 'Liberal Agenda,' is pushing back against Nazis, white supremacists, and racists—whether they're marching in the streets with torches or marching through the Oval Office and the House with discriminatory legislation."
#SaturdayMorning#SatChathttps://t.co/TO7NOVeTvm
A1: If I had a magic wand, I will help both Ss and Ts have the empathy they need to appreciate one another and the struggle each goes through. #satchat
I'm proud to say my corporation is addressing it as well within curriculum. k-1 teachers are receiving PD this summer regarding the SEL curriculum. As an individual building, my team is working hard to implement strategies building-wide. #satchat
A1: I would encourage growth of mutual trust among Ss, Ts, admins and parents (family) to increase effectiveness of learning process. This could be approached by generating a common purpose statement all of these parties agree on answering the question - why are we here? #SatChat
#SatChat A2b Resources don’t fall short. They get lost in the chaff. It’s up to teachers, initially, to bring the story out into the light. For the rest of us, lifelong learners, we have to be open/curious enough to question our [long held] beliefs.
Perhaps the absence of relationship building is the culprit. We have to let our gets have a voice and let them know that their voice is important - Just as important as the Ts. #satchat
A2. The absence of problem framing and solving by learners seems to be in conflict with the mindset that believes there are set things to learn by set ages. I’d like to aim a magic wand at that assumption. #satchat
A2: EdCamps, MOOCs, Twitter chats, PLN opportunities can all help - it’s a matter of connecting Ts to the opps and finding ways to validate the learning. #satchat
A1 If I had a magic wand I would want to fix the equity in schools. Every school should have the same resources, good teachers and equipment to learn #satchat
#Satchat
A2. Access to and use of technology can have a huge impact on students interest level. Having the time to design effective lessons and ensuring Ss have the tech is not always there.
A2- The best resource we have is the people in our schools - teachers, staff, parents - we are all responsible for making our schools welcoming & positive. #Satchat
A1: If I had a magic wand, I’d make PD MUCH more about choice & FAR less about what is assigned. I’d also survey to gauge whether or not folks got true value from PD before implementing more of the same. #satchat
A1: I'd make this idea disappear: that one person is more or less deserving of time, attention, respect, assistance or anything else in life because of their ability, status, origin, religion, race, gender or orientation, if I had that magic wand. #satchat
Q1. If you had a magic wand, what would be a problem in your sphere of influence that you would make disappear? (i.e. What is one of your pain points in education that you can actually do something about?) #satchat
A2: Some scholarship are available to fill in the financial need to embrace techs in teaching. But we need to be careful in selecting which techs to use - we need to buy what we “need”. Purchasing what we “want” doesn’t solve anything. #satchat
Q2. What resources already exist that help to fill this need that you have identified, either partially or fully? What do they do well, and where do they fall short? #satchat
Q3. How can you leverage the power of social media to help solve the problem that you have identified? How might you enlist potential collaborators? #satchat
A2 but if the myths that there isn't enough time or that the only problem is knowing the content prevail then we aren't going to gain the ground necessary to be obstacles to injustice for our students #satchat
A2 There are so many excellent books to study and so many resources to suit all different kinds of learners needs. We have so much knowledge about the fact that critically conscious teachers make a big difference when it comes to learning outcomes for Ss #satchat
#satchat#A2 Staying connected to #educators on #Twitter has helped me to stay positive and avoid negativity. I can also choose to connect with the #teachers in my #school who are positive and supportive; it doesn't matter if we #teach the same content or not
A1 if I had a magic wand 💫 I would create more organic opportunities for collaboration to break folks out of silos so that we can be more intentional & work collectively to impact all kids #satchat
Q1. If you had a magic wand, what would be a problem in your sphere of influence that you would make disappear? (i.e. What is one of your pain points in education that you can actually do something about?) #satchat
Met a RESIST guy today. Asked him what he is resisting. Asked him to sit with me to discuss. Showed him historical facts about Dems, NAZI's, etc.
After 30 minutes, he walked outside, & I watched him voluntarily remove his RESIST sticker from his car.
I watched him #WalkAway.
A2 PBL integrates subject areas. We have 2 hours of PD time every Friday where Ts plan projects together. I'd like to see more of this happening. I'd also like to have more classes off campus but it's often too expensive. #satchat
Q3. How can you leverage the power of social media to help solve the problem that you have identified? How might you enlist potential collaborators? #satchat
The only problem I have is that while the file follows the student, the new teacher does not have access to see their progress. Student portfolios are personal and prized. That’s a good thing. #satchat
A2: As far as student organization, I think some of the online platforms like Google Drive allow students to keep all of their files in one place. They are also accessible from anywhere with internet access. #satchat
“History is written by the winners.” — Dan Brown
https://t.co/rnvWnwGn2s#satchat
In math & science we strive for exactness. Why is it different in history?
A2: We need time to strengthen the passion and trust in our school- dedicating PD time to explore @simonsinek 's work, along with the elements of Hattie's research with the biggest impact! #satchat
I believe that with the right tools you can find something close to objective reality. In social studies, it takes an understanding of how human beings act and a willingness to dig deep into several@different perspectives. #satchat
Every child needs a champion! But considering how many years a child is in school, they should have MANY adult champions that believe in them! #satchat
Building positive relationships with adults and students is key. Involving stakeholders, valuing opinions, and providing encouragement/support improves wellbeing and #mentalhealth#SatChat
A2 Great data and research exists that shows wellbeing, engagement matters in adult and student performance. It’s rarely included in principal and superintendent development programs. #satchat
#Satchat A2. I think there's many with great things going on in their rooms..Pushing more for more sharing at PLCs, Feedback, requesting this time on a PD Day, Peer Observation..I have to hold myself accountable for asking and talking with colleagues as well.
A3: By connecting and growing your #PLN you have thousands of minds and experiences that are ready and willing to help you with anything you need #satchat
#satchat Helping students understand each other’s strengths, how we uniquely think, feel, and behave creates understanding and a culture of complimentary partnerships
A1: If I had a magic wand, I will help both Ss and Ts have the empathy they need to appreciate one another and the struggle each goes through. #satchat
A2: I would like to shift to an inquiry-based model of learning with my 1st graders. I’ve found great resources. My biggest fear is keeping up with quickly changing technology and managing it! #satchat
A3 the social media tools available allow that collaboration to happen organically beyond the four walls of our building & four walls of our district, potential collaborators would be many of you all here who are being a champion for kids #Satchat
Q3. How can you leverage the power of social media to help solve the problem that you have identified? How might you enlist potential collaborators? #satchat
A1: If I had a magic wand, I’d make PD MUCH more about choice & FAR less about what is assigned. I’d also survey to gauge whether or not folks got true value from PD before implementing more of the same. #satchat
A3: when on an island - literally - social media is key. Allows Ts and Ss to connect with other Ts and Ss around the globe to collaborate and share and borrow ideas and solve problems… #satchat
#SatChat A2b Resources don’t fall short. They get lost in the chaff. It’s up to teachers, initially, to bring the story out into the light. For the rest of us, lifelong learners, we have to be open/curious enough to question our [long held] beliefs.
A3: Find your TRIBE of teachers dedicated to deeper learning. PLNs such as #AODL#satchat#BoldSchool#kidsdeserveit can all help! Sharing lessons and student experiences also builds excitement. We can, and should, work to reimagine the student experience. #satchat
Q3. How can you leverage the power of social media to help solve the problem that you have identified? How might you enlist potential collaborators? #satchat
A2: There are several books, PD, and research on the power of empathy in education, and I know I use it in my classroom. It falls short as part of all schools’ fabric. #satchat
A2 I think we all have the tools we just have to understand changing mindsets is a process not an event. and we have to be strong enough to face the backlash and keep pushing #satchat
If I had a magic wand, I would:
1. Make the best educators stay in the profession.
2. Make the worst educators leave the profession.
3. Make the best potential educators join the profession.
#Satchat
Teachers are often asked to share these strategies with others and they have difficulty articulating what they do differently. The key piece is that they empower students. #satchat
A1: If I had a magic wand, I’d take edu beyond school walls. Make all classrooms explore the power of connecting with others somewhere in the world...to explore other cultures, to gain empathy & understanding, & to consider solutions to some of the world’s challenges. 🌎 #satchat
A3. I find that the education community is exceptionally generous on Twitter. Always willing to share ideas and resources. The challenge is curating content that applies to your context. #satchat
Q3. How can you leverage the power of social media to help solve the problem that you have identified? How might you enlist potential collaborators? #satchat
Q3: Growing a strong network of inclusive educators who value diversity and use their solutions to establish a positive and equitable learning experience for all. #satchat
Q3. How can you leverage the power of social media to help solve the problem that you have identified? How might you enlist potential collaborators? #satchat
A3 during PD or conversations with teachers about changing mindsets have your PLN chime in; bonus points for LIVE conversations so colleagues see you're not the crazy one...they are #satchat
#satchat A3 I would be lost without the support of my #Twitter#PLNs! Sharing ideas and frustrations, learning what other #teachers do....so #grateful for this resource
Q3. How can you leverage the power of social media to help solve the problem that you have identified? How might you enlist potential collaborators? #satchat
A3 Having those conversations with others, listening to their thinking, maybe adjusting your thinking, being open to ideas of others before beginning the conversation in your building #satchat
Q3. How can you leverage the power of social media to help solve the problem that you have identified? How might you enlist potential collaborators? #satchat
#personalizedlearning is crucial for PD if we are life long learners as well then we need to be able to learn the information we need to learn any time any place #Satchat
A1: If I had a magic wand, I’d make PD MUCH more about choice & FAR less about what is assigned. I’d also survey to gauge whether or not folks got true value from PD before implementing more of the same. #satchat
#satchat A3:. Don't be afraid to reach out! I remember reaching out to @PrincipalFrench at the beginning of last year and we had a conversation via phone. There are so many helpful folks out there!
A3) You have to go where the eyes are to get your message out there. Social Media allows for your message to ripple out to the community! Twitter has been 💪, but also looking at other platforms as well. #satchat
In social studies, we often try to build a narrative or we strive towards linearity. Diving deep into several perspectives is key but we must always ask - is there a story that isn't being told? Almost always yes. #satchat
#satchat
A3 Social Media is the equalizer. We can ALL share our thoughts in a public forum. All thoughts/ideas welcome. You may not like what I have to say and that’s okay. #satchat
A3: Sharing the best ideas you had so far in teaching. You might be alone in your workplace, but you can meet a number of educators who have the same mindset in social media. The collection of ideas can be the solution. #satchat
Q3. How can you leverage the power of social media to help solve the problem that you have identified? How might you enlist potential collaborators? #satchat
I'm aiming to teach high school and we've been discussing teaching visual literacy as well as literacy of the written word. At least in part to allow weaker readers to conceptualize ideas surrounding literacy. But is there anything else I can do for older students? #satchat
A3 social media takes PD from the building or district mandated approach and turns it over to the educators involved. Everyone is more willing to really participate and learn when it's their choice. Too much PD is simply viewed as a hoop to jump through. #satchat
A3: I don’t think social media can solve the problem, but it can help many Ts not fall into empathy-fatigue and perhaps encourage others to reach out to other Ss and Ts. #satchat

Q3. How can you leverage the power of social media to help solve the problem that you have identified? How might you enlist potential collaborators? #satchat
Investing in our teachers through quality PD is often overlooked. Faculty meetings often involve mandates and nuts/bolts info being delivered. Need to find balance in meetings and inspire T’s to own their PD. #satchat
A3 Finding your tribe via social media is helpful in problem solving! Likeminded folks help generate new ideas and can id resources you might not know about. Find these folks by joining groups that address your concerns/interests! #satchat@sarahdateechur
Q3 Obviously Twitter PD chats :). I post daily content I discover on Twitter/LinkedIn. I created a PD content library for any educator to browse, download and utilize. Go to https://t.co/8KqQgM7uwd. It’s there for you to use. #satchat
#satchat A3 When I am up at 3 in the morning trying to work out a lesson, or a tech problem, or try something innovative, there is always another #teacher I can talk to, because #teaching is teaching, no matter where you are; sounds cliche, but it's true
A3 Social media gives you an opportunity to collaborate with others and really discuss possible solutions. Brainstorming solutions is half way there to solving issues/problems #bettertogether#satchat
Powerful.
There’s definitely something to being fully present in the world. Often more important than what can be read or studied in more traditional ways. #satchat
A2: Resources like #satchat on Twitter and elsewhere have helped me to connect with supportive educators and provided a place for me to share knowledge even when I'm not actively teaching in the classroom.
Q2. What resources already exist that help to fill this need that you have identified, either partially or fully? What do they do well, and where do they fall short? #satchat
#Satchat A3. It's right here this morning and every day...The power of our PLNs. 🙂 And I think if I find a great resource, book, topic, just share it. There's always someone to support and to learn from.
I'm especially thinking about putting my phone on the table and opening up my Voxer app...let my colleagues hear my PLN talk with passion and purpose #satchat
I can’t imagine a time when Hacking School Culture was needed more. #teachers, school leaders, parents and our kids need tolerance and compassion more than ever.

#SatChat Social studies is a subject ripe for integration. That an era. What was the music of the time? What did the economy look like? What was happening in medicine and science? The possibilities are endless.

A TechFest and an Edcamp are great starts! We need monthly opps like that. The amount of #PD that is imposed on staff is insane. At very least, differentiate offerings by allowing those who self-rate “effective” to opt out or choose other options. #satchat
A3: I think social media has already made me a much better teacher. I find PD that is self-directed and based on my interests. I find a lot of amazing resources & use tutorials to bring them to life for me. #satchat
Thank you for joining us on #Satchat. More importantly, thank you to @sarahdateechur for guest moderating. She is doing amazing things in the educational world. Be sure to give Sarah a follow. Access the #Satchat archives from our friends @participate here https://t.co/RFj0acTWs7
Almost 4000 educators have checked out the website to grab resources about the professional learning books that they are reading! A marvelous #PLN Has developed around #bookcamppd Saturday morning chat that begins at 9:00 EST #satchat my dream is coming true! ❤️📚❤️
Q3. How can you leverage the power of social media to help solve the problem that you have identified? How might you enlist potential collaborators? #satchat
If I had a magic wand, I would:
1. Make the best educators want to stay in the profession
2. Make the worst educators want to leave the profession
3. Make the best potential educators want to join the profession
#Satchat
Love this... Positivity is important at the individual level and collective level in education because it infects the person and environment, which is something we need in those stressful faculty room! You won’t make it long without it #satchat
A2 we have vehicles for collaboration we just need to get more folks on the bus 🚌 as well as provide time for this to happen through PLC’s & other intentional subcommittees to help drive the important work happening #Satchat
Q2. What resources already exist that help to fill this need that you have identified, either partially or fully? What do they do well, and where do they fall short? #satchat
Encouraging learners to be curious, to question and to think/research critically as part of their lifelong learning experience.. is that taught in schools? #SatChat
