So often students are silenced in traditional classrooms or only given one avenue to share their ideas.

giving kids chance to gave a voice sets up real collaboration
Educators must strive to provide students multiple avenues to engage in the class conversation so they feel comfortable
Oh Leonie the magnificent... thanks for bringing your A-game to tonight. Hope you join us each week at this time.

Classrooms are the perfect testing ground for sharing ideas & learning how to really listen. Students must be taught these skills
Teaching is coaching, when done right. Need to know when to press, when to let up, set goals.
thank you Mark - will try only issue is the time difference - now 00.43 BST :))
.Would love to but usually tchng or rather letting my Ss have voice & choice. On end of Term winter break 2 weeks
I agree! Key to building skills they need in real world.
so true... indeed, perfect! [as are you...]
or they may just not know yet how to manage different - take time to watch, listen to another colleague -
Should student choice be limited or open ended?
My shyest students in class are my most outspoken & articulate online. Need to allow stud voice in diff spaces
at very least i think the no voice & choice teachers would be relatively less likely to provide it to their students
Being heard... necessitates that someone listens...
When teachers listen to their Ss voices, the control and compliance will come more naturally.
Hi :) Majority DOESN'T know, NOR it as ONLY looking for ! ;)
Oh Tom... really? Might that be a possibility? Say it isn't so...
Far from perfect but striving for improvement every day ;)
.Yes Professional dev so impt. Tchng always changing .Unfair on Ss if Ts don't. Accept challenges & keep evolving
I worry that many Ts fear “what students will say” & as a result never engage their voices, esp online.

Totally openended doesn't fly in K-12 public schools. Must align. Teachers get creative to let kids feel voice heard.
Thanks to my friend and your moderator for his herculean moderating skills and thanks to all who participated in this

I also love “speed dating” style discussions where everyone gets a chance for quick 1 on 1 chat. So fun!
it all starts with baby steps, but it can't happen without deliberate teacher planning
Sorry to have joined late, love the topic! I teach hs, and on my door is a reminder that each student had a voice to be heard
thanks Tom... I eat my spinach...
THANK YOU for participating in this re student voice. Quite grateful to learn from you! S/O to
It has to start with environment; students know when their voice has worth in the room, and respond! This part is all on the teacher
At the hs level it has to be authentic; the kids know when you are patronizing them. But set expectations for the discussion
So rare that life allow me to join these amazing convos! So fun when I can make it. Thanks for a great chat!
Working on blog post about why student collab success skyrocketed this year in class
I've told the students not to act like experts; but if they have something to say, and have taken the time to inform, let's hear it!
any by ascd and of course
