Lindsay Bell typically from Somerville but coming out of New Hampshire tonight. Broke my foot (all four metatarsals across the front) while leaving for the airport to head home to TX from Spring Break! 🤦🏻♀️#txed
Hello all #txed ! Kimberly, K-5 Reading specialist from north TX. I love my PLF on Voxer, I finally caught up on all my messages just before this chat! Great timing!
Q1-You look into a crystal ball and see that one of you students will be President of the United States. Would you change the way you teach knowing this? #TXed
#txed Jerry Toups Hs Math Tr from Lamar CISD. This summer I will be working with #christianfaithpublishing to publish my book about what made me into I am and how I inspire communities to #AlwaysBelieve
Q1-You look into a crystal ball and see that one of you students will be President of the United States. Would you change the way you teach knowing this? #TXed
A1. Excellent question ..... would I teach the students in the class how to interact with greater empathy? more collaborative approaches? more problem solving techniques? aren't I already doing these things? #TXed
No. I’d be killin myself wondering why the others didn’t do the same. If I’m not teaching like every child is going to be President of the US, then I’m not meeting their individual needs. That’s on me. #txed#neisdpln

Q1-You look into a crystal ball and see that one of you students will be President of the United States. Would you change the way you teach knowing this? #TXed
A1 I don’t know that I’d so much “change” my teaching but I’d probably enhance certain lessons regarding acceptance and diversity. Also, pushing myself to allow for more student driven learning to allow for self discovery as problem solving skills #txed
Q1-You look into a crystal ball and see that one of you students will be President of the United States. Would you change the way you teach knowing this? #TXed
A1: change my instruction- No! Bc every kid has that potential is my belief! Do I ensure every child gets that instruction every day- heck yes!!! #TXed
Erika from @CopelandCFISD#txed pooping in and out while I get my crazy baseball boys to bed! Fun my @RemindHQ lets me know when this chat starts! Happy Wed y’all!
A1: Interesting Question. As a former 1st grade teacher, I taught the most basic of skills. These skills needed to be taught, but I know my Ss could have experienced more independent thinking and problem-solving. #txed
#txed A1 - Hope not. The fun of teaching is impacting lives and watching them turn into adults. If given the option, I wouldn’t want to know the future.
This is why we participate in Twitter chats. Because we get so many diffferent points of views, thoughts, and ideas that help us refine our craft, stretch, and grow.....can’t tell you how many of your ideas i’ve Stolen my friend. #txed

A1: I would have been more careful not to stifle her inquisitive nature. I would have allowed her to follow those tangents until they led somewhere revolutionary instead of redirecting her back to grammar work. #txed
#txed A1 In "reality" you should BELIEVE all your students will eventually be #great. INSPIRE them to no ends. You really never now WHAT student will become the greatest, you have to ASSUME ALL have that potential!
A1: I think knowing I was teaching the future president, I would have a heightened awareness of teachable moments - make sure I am teaching character building. Great reminder to do it more NOW! #txed
A1 I've interviewed Politicians on what they would suggest a k-6grd'r do to develop political chops, I've interviewed 80 other professions as well #txed
Scott Brister, chair of the public school finance commission, has responded, saying his statements were taken out of context. He believes sped students are worth funding and is willing to use another term other than "slow learners" #txlege#txedhttps://t.co/hnLfR8YY6D
Q2- As Dave Burgess poses-Would your students buy a ticket to come to your room for a lesson? If so, why? If you are not sure, how can we create a room where students love to come? #TXed
A1: I think all teachers are hard on themselves. I also think we can always improve. Each student is unique. I wouldn't want to teach everyone the same way. Differientiate. #TXed
A1: I would hope I am creating an environment each day to provide the skills necessary that every student could one day be President. More importantly I want them to feel encouraged to do anything they believe they can. #TXed
Q2- As Dave Burgess poses-Would your students buy a ticket to come to your room for a lesson? If so, why? If you are not sure, how can we create a room where students love to come? #TXed
A1 I wouldn't change my teaching practices, but I would emphasize local and global impacts that we have on one another, a focus on developing the "whole child" #mindbodyspirit#TXed
A2 I like to think so. I still have 6th graders tell me they want to come back to my class and can rattle of memories of lessons I taught. I always had my kids moving which is important for all students especially at the K level. #TXed
Q2- As Dave Burgess poses-Would your students buy a ticket to come to your room for a lesson? If so, why? If you are not sure, how can we create a room where students love to come? #TXed
A2: I would say yes. I believe in keeping the fun and excitement as a part of the learning process. Passion. It is all about the passion for teaching and learning. Ss can sense it. Even in 1st grade. #txed
I’ve had kids wonder how I was as a teacher, because of the way that I work with them now as a Principal. I’m wondering now if that is a good hypothetical or a bad one? I’ll ask them tomorrow and let you all know.
We have to arrange rooms where kids learn by having fun. #txed
Q2- As Dave Burgess poses-Would your students buy a ticket to come to your room for a lesson? If so, why? If you are not sure, how can we create a room where students love to come? #TXed
A2: I believe they would and often hear from past students that wish they could come back to see me. Students are given choice along w/ real life experiences so they can apply what they learn, understanding, celebrating the small things and most important...fun! #txed
A2: most kids vote with their smile; stand just inside the front door and watch kids arrive each morning and you’ll quickly tell who would buy a ticket. Engage them, provide them voice, and ensure they know they are safe to take risks. #TXed
A2. When you make them feel like a million bucks they will be bustin' the door down to get into your room - they will be sittin' in the hallway in the morning before you even arrive - go to lunch? <--are you kiddin'? They won't let you out the door - they bring your lunch #TXed
#txed A2 Every day I do my best to make EACH class #SHOWTIME! I imagine I am Tim the Tool Man Taylor and that I teach my Ss with #MorePower MAKE YOUR ROOM AN EXPERIENCE that your Ss will go home and tell their parents!
Q2- As Dave Burgess poses-Would your students buy a ticket to come to your room for a lesson? If so, why? If you are not sure, how can we create a room where students love to come? #TXed
Q2 Yes! My Ss are Ts now, but my years in the classroom were FUN and funny, and we learned SO much together. My students had fun because I respected them, I pushed them, and I supported them 100%. #txed
A2: yep. It's really important that SS feel accepted, loved, cared for, nurtured, responsible, part of a team, working toward something, - and we roll together with bumps in the roadthrow your hands up and let's enjoy the ride! #TXed
A2: there are many classrooms @SampsonElem that I would buy tickets to be in. Kids are engaged and help create a fun and productive learning environment. T see themselves as facilitator and allow kids to do the work of learning and having FUN! #TXed
Always better to be late than not show up at all. What's up my #TXed friends! Here to add some input and hopefully, see into the future! Tom Spall, 4th year specialist in @BrenhamISD .
A2 Back in the day...
Kids knew where I kept free and secret snacks for the hungry. Kids knew that the things I taught would give them a leg up in the world. Kids would pay for that. #TXed
#Txed They see every student as an “investment vehicle”Our children are not a commodity. Corporations& higherEd are able to commercialize personally identifiable information (PII) into a lucrative empire obtained by secretly data-mining thru discreet memorandums of understanding.
In reply to
@RachelChumney, @lynnsdavenport, @pastors4txkids
#txed How do you create a lesson to sell tickets. This video I made from the Mall of Amverica Aquairum takes a class period to go through. KIDS LOVE THESE! Study for the @STAARtest Algebra Test with #MorePowerhttps://t.co/7Q1LvxMVfU
A2: not sure about ticket sales, but I have had students say they like coming to my room because I don’t make him write the main idea every paragraph they read! #txed
A2: as the librarian, I am fortunate that the kids(and teachers) like to come to my classes/lessons. I think because it is engaging and different than their classroom #txed
Q2- As Dave Burgess poses-Would your students buy a ticket to come to your room for a lesson? If so, why? If you are not sure, how can we create a room where students love to come? #TXed
A1: my goodness no! I treat my students like my own children. I want each and every one of them to succeed, and will be beyond proud of them as long as they always give 100% #TXed
A2: When I was teaching, I always treated my classroom as an escape from the world type of place. An adventure the second S's walked through the door. A place where students laughed, collaborate, imagined, and felt free. With this environment... I was able to TEACH! #txed
#txed A3 3 technology devices I could have in my room, 1 My @surface tablet wirelessly connected to a 2 Projector and 3 a student PC or laptop. The @surface tablet is the greatest techonology tool I have EVERY used!
A3: ONLY 3??? Ok. Interactive board that could lower down to 1st grader height, and 2 ChromeBooks with a touch screen. That way, Ss could work together in teams on a digital project. Of course, I would also have my cell phone for feedback (is that cheating?)#txed
I wouldn’t want anything. Technology fails, but good teaching doesn’t. So, I would rely more on great practices. We used to teach without it before and we could do it again.
But if I really had to, an iPad, a smart board, and a VR technology. #txed
A3. Into one of the devices I would wish for more wisdom to figure out how to out smart this question and the crystal ball that is only allowing me three devices!
an iphone and an ipad #TXed
#TXed A3 - Pencil, an internet connection and the desire to never stop learning. Devices go out of style. Give me the passion and I’ll make any device work.
A3: good grief this is a good question! I waged war on one-at-a-time learning and I feel like 3 pieces of tech would be a nightmare. I’ll go with computer, document camera, multi-touch interactive wall (even if it doesn’t exist yet) #TXed
A1: I would hope the answer would be no because problem solving, critical thinking, and empowerment would already be things I was teaching in addition to the content; however, it would probably make me more conscientious of building up those skills. #txed
Q1-You look into a crystal ball and see that one of you students will be President of the United States. Would you change the way you teach knowing this? #TXed
A3 laptop with webcam, speakers and microphone to connect beyond the classroom, the most meaningful connections are made when we connect with others (classrooms and professionals) that have many experiences that can make learning relevant #TXed
A3: I’d want a laptop with a webcam, a promethean board and a tablet. We could do while group/ small group interactivity with the board/comp and then individuals or am groups could use the comp and tablet #txed
A2 I would like to think they would, because they have choice, voice, collaboration, and safety in our classroom. Everyone is respected, and no one is allowed to bring others down. Kindness guides our choices, or so I hope and inspire. #TXed
A1: No, because students learn from both successful classrooms, and failed opportunities. I think I would give the student the same adventure as everyone else that walked into my classroom. #txed
A3 Chromebooks, Chrimebooks, Promethean. Chrimebooks allow student choice and student guided lessons through our Google Classroom, they allow me to model, and the Promethean makes it all big enough to see during whole group/small group modeling. #TXed
A2 - Honestly, I am not sure Ss would have paid to buy a ticket in my classroom for a lesson; however, if I were to go back into the classroom with all of the additional knowledge I have gained I would definitely do a better job to reach that goal. #txed
Q2- As Dave Burgess poses-Would your students buy a ticket to come to your room for a lesson? If so, why? If you are not sure, how can we create a room where students love to come? #TXed
A4 family for believing in me; Joanna Oliver who single handedly saved my career in education; @SIOWehmeyer for allowing me to have human moments; and all staff I’ve worked with for inspiring me in one way or another and of course the students who kept my fire burning #TXed
A4. If I were recognized as a teacher and gave an acceptance speech, I would thank my students. They reward me daily with their heuristics. They permit me to live my calling. #TXed
A4. My parents, my husband, my sons, my 1st principal, my 1st superintendent, all of the teachers who have patiently worked along side me, and especially the para professionals, janitors and secretaries who never receive enough thanks!! #TXed
The list is long.. starting w/my teachers who influenced me, my coworkers who inspire me, admin who encourage me and past students who challenge, inspire and make this job worth it. #txed
A4 The first group of kids I stumbled thru with, every other child I had the opportunity I teach, any teacher/staff member who taught me something, my family, and God Bc He Knows this is all his work!!! #TXed
I’d thank all the kids whom I failed for helping me learn through making mistakes. (I’d also ask them for forgiveness, by the way). I’d thank every person who ever challenged my thinking and pushed me to do and think differently. That’s who I would thank. #txed
#TXed A4 - Parents, my high school Spanish teacher Mrs. Lopez and my first principal, Pat Hughes. All believed in me and had the patience to keep me moving forward.
A4: I would thank all the admin, colleagues, team members, educators, PLN and mentors that helped get me to where I am today. My life wouldn't be what it is today without the collaboration and help along the way. I would also thank anyone who's taken a chance on me. #txed
A4: My husband and kids for their sacrifice and support, my parents for their unconditional love and belief, my 5th grade teacher Mrs J for the inspiration, and the many great leaders I have known and worked for and with! #TXed
A2b - I do believe Ss would buy tickets to come to my room due to the environment because they did come back to see me & Ss I didn't have would want to come as well. For the environment & not the lesson. #txed
Q2- As Dave Burgess poses-Would your students buy a ticket to come to your room for a lesson? If so, why? If you are not sure, how can we create a room where students love to come? #TXed
A4: I’d like to thank my parents who taught me character counts everyday and my #TeamAult and #txed PLNs for inspiration and encouragement and support to take risks! #txed
A4 My 8th grade class of 2008, because they taught me more than they’ll ever know — about teaching, learning, engagement, and classroom culture. They shaped who I am today! @chlorovo#txed
Hard one- I would thank my assistant who does so much of the daily tasks so I can run my library program. #neisdlibs & twitter people who share ideas willingly. My P @MsKellih who lets me run the library my way. Amazing teachers and students who trust me w/ their learning. #txed
A4 I would thank all the teachers that helped me especially those first few years! Then I would thank @JoyousMomentsOR for teaching me to love my students! @leighmragsdale & @burgessdave for encouraging me to try anything! #txed
#txed A4 WOW! Where do you start? IF I had to pick 1 person it would be my wife @AngelaToups She is my rock! Without her I WOULD NOT BE where I am. There would be no @GRHSABC#AlwaysBelieve scholarship and no upcoming book. So blessed to be married to her. She makes me great!
A4: Wow, there would be a lot of people. #1- Our students they're the reason why I believe in this position. #2- @techy_davido for believing in me. #3- our superintendent @johnkuhntx for being all about students and teachers #3- My Crockett crew & 1st grade Lamar #TXed
A4 My husband is my biggest advocate in all things, and he inspires me through his excellence but also his encouragement in my pursuits. ( he is also an educator) Without a cheerleader like him, I would not be so bold and would not believe in my ability to teach/inspire. #txed
A2: I loved my students so much. They were the best!! I hope they would have bought a ticket, but I always wished I'd been more adventurous...more willing to be silly or fun. Middle schoolers still like that, even when they dont act like it! #txed
A4: I would thank my 1st #ece prof Dr. Nita Copley because she lit my passion for teaching young children & taught me how to keep playing while instilling a life long love of learning! #txed
Would I know then what I know now? I don’t think Twitter has given us that many characters to list it all. I’d go back to make sure that all the kids I failed (refer to previous tweet) would get the best education ever. #txed
A5: Through every up and down I have had over the past 26 years, I would not change anything. I am the teacher I am now because of everything I have been through. Experience makes us better and wiser...ok older too! #txed
A5 not too much because I believe everything happens for a reason and I’m where I am bc of it all...buuuut some prior classroom experience before jumping straight in. A solid student teaching type experience (I am alt cert) #txed
A5 Not worry about what everyone else is doing in their classrooms, just do what I know and feel is right for my Ss! Build those relationships and give my Ss voice and choice! #txed
A5. I would study the mind - psychology. There is so much we can learn about how the brain influences learning. When I went to college the choices were nurse or teacher. #TXed
A5 In ALL honesty, I would have built better, more meaningful relationships. I would have realized the heart of the child is more important than the brain, because without the heart in check, the brain is not at its best! #txed
#TXed A5 - Like the first pancake, I would toss out the first few years. Took me about four years to get my teaching traction. After 27 years in the business, I still have contact with a few kids I taught way back when.
Huge shoutout to the #rstats community. It's been in the works for awhile, but I've just finished a website built with #blogdown. Shoutout to @vivalosburros for the design inspiration. For my first post, my testimony before the Texas Commission on Public School Finance! #txed
A5 From this vantage-point in time, I can see some of the mistakes I made in the past. I’d rather not have made them. I hope I learned from them. #TXed
A5 I’m not sure I would change anything. I love where I am today professionally, and had I done anything differently, who knows where I’d be...This question’s got me like... #txed
#txed A5 The POWER of #clairvoyance Still hard for me to comprehend in August of 1990 I inked #AlwaysBelieve in yourself as my 1st rule. This has turned into my life mission. I didn't start bringing #AlwaysBelieve to Friday Night Lights until 2004. Guess I would do that earlier.
A5: I new in Elem school that I was going to be an Elem school teacher. Everything I did in HS was towards that career. I spent all of college majoring in Elem Ed. I wouldn't change any of that. However, I would have started my Masters in EDU right after my bachelors. #txed
A5: focus even more on relationships with students and creating a community of learning. Use twitter power for collaboration!!! Be better at questioning #TXed
A5 From this vantage-point in time, I can see some of the mistakes I made in the past. I’d rather not have made them. I hope I learned from them. #TXed
Very encouraging news on the increased Title IV block grant funding to close to original authorization level in #ESSA. Will benefit @SAISD students #txed
Omnibus highlights!
— $300M for Title I-A, bringing the total funding to $15.8 billion

— $700M for Title IV, Part A bringing the total funding to $1.1 billion (!)

A5: I also would have written better notes on EVERY strategy, idea, lesson, pedagogy change, etc so that I could reflect better and help younger educators just starting out in this career. #txed
A5: My position is Instructional Tech. If I could start over in my career. I wish I would have implemented more tech in my earlier years. I feel it truly can enhance learning. Why didn't I think of that? #TXed#mindset
A6 for my school: unwavering unity - this doesn’t mean no difference of opinion but that even if you don’t agree there is a strong sense of unity behind whatever decisions are made #txed
That I could have endless energy to continue to work tirelessly and infinitely to help prepare my kids for future success. And time, lots of time to use that energy. Wait, are those two wishes? Is that allowed? I need them both. Is anyone willing to share their wish? #txed
A5. When I started teaching, PLNs were unheard of. Twitter is what birds did. Close the door, that is what I thought I was to do as a self sufficient educator. #i’vegrownsomuch! #txed
A6 That the kids I feel like I am not affecting would in fact look back and realize that all that kindness talk and purpose/perseverance y’all Mrs. Willard dragged us through actually has value. That those lessons would guide them in a more positive direction in life. #txed
A6: My wish is that EVERY student and teacher knows and feels that they MATTER and that they BELONG! We all need to have a purpose and feel part of something bigger than ourselves. Actually, that is my wish for the WORLD! #txed
A6:) If I were granted one wish for the classroom, I don’t think I’d use it. Wishing takes all the fun out of the journey. If my wishes came true, I would never have the experience of how to get there. #txed
A6 to lightly put concepts on the "curiosity fire" adding as the learning consumes, then point students to libraries, creative spaces forest, tidepools, maker spaces #txed
#txed A6 My 1 wish would be to make our school an oasis of LOVE free from the violence and immorality that has overtaken our society. #AlwaysBelieve#Love is the answer to our problems.
A6. My wish would be to stop the pipeline that takes youth from schools to prisons. It is a dream I wish everyone had. It happens far too often in this country. #TXed
A6: I wish everyone could just teach. No politics, no negativity, no outside influences, no state testing... LITERALLY just be able to TEACH. Teach the curriculum, their way, and truly make a positive difference... but most of all, actually LOVE and ENJOY their career. #txed
A6: I wish everyone could just teach. No politics, no negativity, no outside influences, no state testing... LITERALLY just be able to TEACH. Teach the curriculum, their way, and truly make a positive difference... but most of all, actually LOVE and ENJOY their career. #txed
A6- As a instructional tech- give all of my teachers and students chromebooks. As teacher- give my students the world with an unlimited amount of resources. #TXed
A6 I wished you'all <- did I do that right? join "League of Extraordinary People" https://t.co/Xbx4LhxBoO <- it;s a google form you know what to do #txed
Great questions during this chat tonight. I enjoy questions that ask us to wonder. Amazing educators that responded with such dedication to their students - thank you!! #TXed
