Welcome to #TECHTalkGA!! @DeniseHazlett and I will be moderating.

#TECHtalkGA A1 Leah, Instructional Tech Coach/Webmaster/Social Media Manager for @allatoona_hs in Cobb... snow! As long as all of my little chicks are home, I'm all about the snow!!
Askia Jackson/Bryan County/Instructional Tech
NO snow on the holiday wish list. I almost met my maker in 35 degree weather yesterday! #SouthernGirl#TechTalkGA
A1: Hello everyone! Atlanta native with Kami (from New Zealand)! My hope is definitely for snow! Even the wet, icy kind we get is exciting! #techtalkga
@Flipgrid is my go to for instant student engagement but any tool that has students actively collaborating and thinking critically #TECHtalkGA#GaLibChat
A2 Tools and resources that align with the lesson content are best for engagement. We have to move away from picking a cool app or using Kahoot every. single. day.
#TECHtalkGA
The teacher!! No matter how amazing the tech may be, without well-trained teachers in the tools/resources available the students won't have the opportunity to be engaged in it. #edtech#techtalkga

A2: Seemless student engagement can come from a multitude of great resources, but offering student choice usually is where the most productive classrooms can be observed. #TECHtalkGA
A2: after weeks of student technology competition prep. Coding is extremely engaging. Might not be real techy but our school likes getting students going with @Flocabulary shenanigans #TECHtalkGA
A2: I love tools that allow for customization, like Prezi and EdPuzzle! I think it is an important step for inspiring Ss and embracing ownership! #techtalkga
A2: For seamless engagement I think it is more important to ask WHY we should you instructional technology tools not what instructional technology tools #TECHtalkGA
I’m sorry to hear that...maybe try it at home...if you are using @OneDrive, @msonenote should work too...The issues may be due to district network restrictions...just a thought. #techtalkga

@Media_Barber, @msonenote, @onedrive, @msonenote
A3: #techtalkga this is too overwhelming and new is what I've heard before but then I think a good answer for that is what are you trying to accomplish? How will this help my students show mastery.
A3: It's always the time thing. I don't have enough time. So I try to give them easy ways of trying something new like modeling a lesson for them in the library using Hyperdocs or I tie it into content the kiddos are struggling w/ as a way to help #TECHtalkGA
A3 we get pushback from Ts about to retire, teacher centered classes, and not having enough time.
To combat this, we created #fcslevelup and work with the "living" that are hungry to learn. If the majority of teachers are interested, the rest will follow.
#TECHtalkGA
A3 biggest pushback comes from what I call FOLD, or fear of looking dumb. It's a struggle when you don't speak the language of tech, so why try is the attitude. #TechTalkGA
"I don't have time to learn it." or "I'm going to keep doing what I know works." <-- This usually equates to cutesy crafts and heavily guided T-lead instruction. #TECHTalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A3 "Aren't we using tech to use tech??" Then I preach #PedagogyIsKing - tech doesn't matter if we don't focus on teaching... Then use tech that makes sense. Tech is NOT always an imperative. Knowing I feel this way gives Ts confidence that my heart is in right place!
A3: We tend to get pushback when we make the introduction of tools too broad/all inclusive. Narrow focus tends to serve teachers better. We've all been in that training that didn't apply to you and know the pain... #TECHtalkGA
A3: #TECHtalkGA "I don't have time" or they will not read directions or attend the training. So frustrating after you plan for hours on how to help them. Change - keep encouraging the baby steps.
A3: "I don't have time to learn something new." I tell them to let the students try and figure it out. They can usually learn and then teach the rest of us faster anyway. It empowers the students as well. #TECHtalkGA
A3: The age-old conundrum...no time to do anything else. I don’t try to sell what I love, I start by asking what they need, how in an ideal world tech could help them and suggest tools from there, advising of benefits, etc. When it’s relevant, it’s sustainable. #techtalkga
Q3: let’s say change in general. All it takes is one spark and you can win a teacher over easy. You can see their enthusiasm coming a mile away. Make sure you SHOW them how it can make an impact immediately. #TECHtalkGA
A3: form tech integrationist...found positive reception as long as I offered tech integration ideas that adhere to the Ts learning level & content, no 1 size fits all #TECHtalkGA
A2: This all depends on what youre looking for. My teachers have lived Google Classroom Trainings I have done this year, and also look forward to my techie Tuesday screencast. #techtalkga
A3: Time! I find it can sometimes be overcome by explaining how it will help the students and classroom as a whole (I like to frame it as an investment) #techtalkga
#TECHTalkGA cause teachers will always have content knowledge in mind. Tech brings the engagement piece they long for. @ClintWinter master teacher, teaches
A3: #techtalkga this is too overwhelming and new is what I've heard before but then I think a good answer for that is what are you trying to accomplish? How will this help my students show mastery.
A1: jumping in late, just finished WW3 at our house and they're finally in bed. I'm Sarah, 6th grade ELA in Forsyth County. Would love snow #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A4 lots... I don't think there's a one size fits all answer to this. This is absolutely something that needs to be tailored to the teacher, student, lesson, situation, etc.
YES!! Did you know that new teachers have the hardest time with #edtech in the classroom for just that reason?! We should be looking for the next NEW way to teach.
#TECHTalkGA
A4 We survey schools to find the tools or strategies that they are unfamiliar with.
We're about to do a big SAMR push along with 3 trainings with one tool each for the Spring. Teachers don't need 30 apps in 30 minutes.
#TECHtalkGA
A4: #techtalkga I try babys teps and chipping away. I have a blog that I send out to my staff every friday called https://t.co/qlP7hfBK8T also put all resources and presentations and videos on our instructional technology page. It's all about making it accessible
A4: Screencastomatic has been my best friend for introducing tools. Filiming a screencast gives the teachers or students something to refer back to. #techtalkga
My Technology Integration page https://t.co/piRqUi7Xqu#techtalkga Give your students a choice of what tech tools they want to use to complete their projects.
A4: best: created a modified Breakout where Ts experienced 5 tech resources as they progressed, great bc each Ts liked at least one & low stakes environment to learn #TECHtalkGA
A3: that they don't know how to use something or don't have time to learn. I'll sit with them while they try it. Also tell them that the kids likely already know how to use it and refer them to screencasts & tutorials #TECHtalkGA
A4: I agree...for the most resistant, I usually start with a game of some sort...@Kahoot!, or something like that to get Ss engaged...it encourages the teacher. #techtalkga
A4: I like introducing tools by modeling their use when possible. Ex. Introduce @PearDeck using it as the presentation tool. Integrate @RecapThat at the end. Be creative and show your tools at work. Teachers want hands on! #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA We are super excited about our Techno Expo in Thomas County on January 5. Great courses led by teachers in our district. https://t.co/tRVW6TFDLm
A5: We are just getting our hands on our new Chromebooks, and so far the response has been awesome! Oh, and also coffee. Coffee is the most important resource at any well-functioning school. #TechTalkGA
A4 Agreed. I use gamification all the time for PD. Even if the PD topic sucks, they still have fun. And that’s what they remember. It’s the number 1 thing they ALL take back to their classrooms THAT DAY. #TechTalkGA
A4: I agree...for the most resistant, I usually start with a game of some sort...@Kahoot!, or something like that to get Ss engaged...it encourages the teacher. #techtalkga
A4 Agree admin support is nec Add that rock star Ts r the best salespeople Esp when other Ts see how Ss r well & consistently engaged & work load is cut. I search 4 tech lists & ‘best of’, annual reviews & reputable blogs + great #edtechrs in our district as models #TECHtalkGA
Yes!!! I just made one to show my students how to research in Destiny and another about how to make Google Sites. Shared them with coworkers, and now they (& their classes) are trying it too! Love screencastomatic! #techtalkga
Alrighty peeps-It's bedtime! Good night, sleep tight! #TECHtalkGA (If you're new to the chat, check out our library media specialist slow chat this month! #GaLibChat)
A3 Not much pushback actually Great coaches make new ideas & required elements flow seamlessly into existing practice & show how effective they can b Plus #TKES eval rubric makes it an easy sell 4 Proficiency #TECHTalkGA it’s not what u say, it’s how & why: it works & Ss need it
This is so true! We teach differently now than we used to when we were in the CR, and WAY differently than we learned as Ss!
Up to us to build the bridge (no walls here!)!
#TECHtalkGA
It has been a fast and furious 30 min. Thank you everyone for joining in the conversations. Find someone to follow and keep the flow going!
#TECHTalkGA
#TECHtalkGA Mobile Learning Mindset: The Coach's Guide mentions Trailblazers, Pioneers, Settlers, and Locals with tech integration. Great analogy @mrhooker
A5: Admin google Drive bc it covers everything from docs to slides to sheets...classroom Ts seem to really enjoy @quizlet live & @nearpod for the excitement, engagement plus sharing content #TECHtalkGA

So true! Just told someone today that I would totally spend my time with someone who WANTS TO KNOW something that they should maybe already know just because they want to know it!
