The teacher!! No matter how amazing the tech may be, without well-trained teachers in the tools/resources available the students won't have the opportunity to be engaged in it. #edtech #techtalkga

  • ehlmstech Dec 11 @ 9:09 PM EST
Yes, this is a daily / hourly tool but even that - is never seamless #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @ClintWinter
  • hgsisk Dec 11 @ 9:09 PM EST
A2: Seemless student engagement can come from a multitude of great resources, but offering student choice usually is where the most productive classrooms can be observed. #TECHtalkGA
  • Media_Barber Dec 11 @ 9:10 PM EST
Q3: What pushback do you get from teachers about #edtech in the classroom and how do you change that? #TECHTalkGA
  • Lpstieve Dec 11 @ 9:10 PM EST
A2: after weeks of student technology competition prep. Coding is extremely engaging. Might not be real techy but our school likes getting students going with @Flocabulary shenanigans #TECHtalkGA
  • KenyaRansey Dec 11 @ 9:10 PM EST
    Hi Carrie! 👋🏾 😊 #techtalkga
    In reply to @CLoweryITS, @Flipgrid, @Seesaw, @SpiralEducation

  • ClintWinter Dec 11 @ 9:10 PM EST
A2: For seamless engagement I think it is more important to ask WHY we should you instructional technology tools not what instructional technology tools #TECHtalkGA
  • librarianpaul Dec 11 @ 9:10 PM EST
A2: @Storybird is endlessly engaging - I have never had a student ask to move on to another activity or tool. #techtalkga
  • leahkurtz2012 Dec 11 @ 9:10 PM EST

  • Media_Barber Dec 11 @ 9:11 PM EST
A3. Pushback = change, discomfort, concern. Change by offering help, offering safe space to practice new #edtech. Encouragement. #TECHtalkGA
  • AJacksonRHES Dec 11 @ 9:11 PM EST
Totally agree. I want to do better at introducing options so that they have more to choose from. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @hgsisk
  • tntechgal Dec 11 @ 9:11 PM EST
Concur! Love tech tools but the resource should support the learning objective & learner #TECHTalkGA
    In reply to @iamryanwhite
  • KenyaRansey Dec 11 @ 9:12 PM EST
I’m sorry to hear that...maybe try it at home...if you are using @OneDrive, @msonenote should work too...The issues may be due to district network restrictions...just a thought. #techtalkga

  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Dec 11 @ 9:12 PM EST
Welcome! Thank you for joining us tonight! Good luck with your studies and always reach out with any questions or assistance! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @FrancesChizuko
  • ClintWinter Dec 11 @ 9:12 PM EST
A3: #techtalkga this is too overwhelming and new is what I've heard before but then I think a good answer for that is what are you trying to accomplish? How will this help my students show mastery.
  • Mrs_Bongi Dec 11 @ 9:12 PM EST
A3: It's always the time thing. I don't have enough time. So I try to give them easy ways of trying something new like modeling a lesson for them in the library using Hyperdocs or I tie it into content the kiddos are struggling w/ as a way to help #TECHtalkGA
  • iamryanwhite Dec 11 @ 9:12 PM EST
A3 we get pushback from Ts about to retire, teacher centered classes, and not having enough time. To combat this, we created #fcslevelup and work with the "living" that are hungry to learn. If the majority of teachers are interested, the rest will follow. #TECHtalkGA
  • itsleegreen Dec 11 @ 9:13 PM EST
A3 biggest pushback comes from what I call FOLD, or fear of looking dumb. It's a struggle when you don't speak the language of tech, so why try is the attitude. #TechTalkGA
  • FrancesChizuko Dec 11 @ 9:13 PM EST
"I don't have time to learn it." or "I'm going to keep doing what I know works." <-- This usually equates to cutesy crafts and heavily guided T-lead instruction. #TECHTalkGA
    In reply to @Media_Barber
  • drhoeh Dec 11 @ 9:13 PM EST
A3. Difficult and time consuming. The answer is to engage and empower teachers. #TECHtalkGA
  • Media_Barber Dec 11 @ 9:13 PM EST
Yes! Focus on learning and then show how #edtech can support that learning. Everyone should win. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @ClintWinter
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Dec 11 @ 9:13 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA This is so true! EVERYTHING needs an introduction and support to get it started!
  • leahkurtz2012 Dec 11 @ 9:13 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA A3 "Aren't we using tech to use tech??" Then I preach #PedagogyIsKing - tech doesn't matter if we don't focus on teaching... Then use tech that makes sense. Tech is NOT always an imperative. Knowing I feel this way gives Ts confidence that my heart is in right place!
  • JDigitalLearn Dec 11 @ 9:13 PM EST
A3: We tend to get pushback when we make the introduction of tools too broad/all inclusive. Narrow focus tends to serve teachers better. We've all been in that training that didn't apply to you and know the pain... #TECHtalkGA
  • Techsciteacher Dec 11 @ 9:13 PM EST
Q3 It’s too hard some say. Combat with personalized PD. #TECHtalkGA
  • JustMewborn Dec 11 @ 9:13 PM EST
A3: Continue to share tools with them. It could be that they have never seen the relevancy. Once they do, they will be your best friend #techtalkga
  • CLoweryITS Dec 11 @ 9:13 PM EST
A3: "I don't have time to learn something new." Modeling a #growth #mindset is so important for this reason! #TECHtalkGA
  • ehlmstech Dec 11 @ 9:14 PM EST
A3: #TECHtalkGA "I don't have time" or they will not read directions or attend the training. So frustrating after you plan for hours on how to help them. Change - keep encouraging the baby steps.
  • hgsisk Dec 11 @ 9:14 PM EST
A3: "I don't have time to learn something new." I tell them to let the students try and figure it out. They can usually learn and then teach the rest of us faster anyway. It empowers the students as well. #TECHtalkGA
  • KenyaRansey Dec 11 @ 9:14 PM EST
A3: The age-old conundrum...no time to do anything else. I don’t try to sell what I love, I start by asking what they need, how in an ideal world tech could help them and suggest tools from there, advising of benefits, etc. When it’s relevant, it’s sustainable. #techtalkga
  • itsleegreen Dec 11 @ 9:14 PM EST
Don't forget about the embedded pd involved. It's not sit & get anymore. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @iamryanwhite
  • Lpstieve Dec 11 @ 9:14 PM EST
Q3: let’s say change in general. All it takes is one spark and you can win a teacher over easy. You can see their enthusiasm coming a mile away. Make sure you SHOW them how it can make an impact immediately. #TECHtalkGA
  • AJacksonRHES Dec 11 @ 9:14 PM EST
There's always the "lack of time" statement. I try to show them things they can do "instead of" and not "in addition to"...#TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @Media_Barber
  • tntechgal Dec 11 @ 9:14 PM EST
A3: form tech integrationist...found positive reception as long as I offered tech integration ideas that adhere to the Ts learning level & content, no 1 size fits all #TECHtalkGA
  • Media_Barber Dec 11 @ 9:14 PM EST
Moving teacher beliefs (unconscious fears) is a slow process. I try to chip away at their concerns & support, support, support. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @itsleegreen
  • JenniferAGates Dec 11 @ 9:14 PM EST
A3 Model, model, model-and never fails get the why #TECHtalkGA
  • JustMewborn Dec 11 @ 9:15 PM EST
A2: This all depends on what youre looking for. My teachers have lived Google Classroom Trainings I have done this year, and also look forward to my techie Tuesday screencast. #techtalkga
  • DeborahHuggard Dec 11 @ 9:15 PM EST
Hi everyone! Late to the game tonight but I'll try to catch up. Snow. Schoology/LMS. They want content-specific options in high school #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Dec 11 @ 9:15 PM EST
It's so true! Adults are the same as (or worse than) kids! We always have to reteach...and be patient as we do so! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @ehlmstech
  • iamryanwhite Dec 11 @ 9:15 PM EST
it's also difficult because we are teaching in a different way than we were taught. #TECHtalkGA
  • Media_Barber Dec 11 @ 9:16 PM EST
Q4: What tools / resources do you use to introduce #edtech in the classroom to teachers? #TECHTalkGA
  • KamiSchools Dec 11 @ 9:16 PM EST
A3: Time! I find it can sometimes be overcome by explaining how it will help the students and classroom as a whole (I like to frame it as an investment) #techtalkga
  • DeniseHazlett Dec 11 @ 9:16 PM EST
#TECHTalkGA cause teachers will always have content knowledge in mind. Tech brings the engagement piece they long for. @ClintWinter master teacher, teaches
    • ClintWinter Dec 11 @ 9:12 PM EST
A3: #techtalkga this is too overwhelming and new is what I've heard before but then I think a good answer for that is what are you trying to accomplish? How will this help my students show mastery.
  • ClintWinter Dec 11 @ 9:16 PM EST
A3: It also has to come with Admin buy in. When Admins model and use technology I see teachers grasping on to using it better #TECHtalkGA @JasonKouns1
  • MrsBayerLSMS Dec 11 @ 9:16 PM EST
A1: jumping in late, just finished WW3 at our house and they're finally in bed. I'm Sarah, 6th grade ELA in Forsyth County. Would love snow #TECHtalkGA

  • edtechteach3 Dec 11 @ 9:17 PM EST
A3 If “Tech” isn’t relevant to Ts we get push back- and should. #TECHtalkGA

  • leahkurtz2012 Dec 11 @ 9:17 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA A4 lots... I don't think there's a one size fits all answer to this. This is absolutely something that needs to be tailored to the teacher, student, lesson, situation, etc.
  • tntechgal Dec 11 @ 9:17 PM EST
Agreed! Plus it lends to buy in #TECHTalkGA

YES!! Did you know that new teachers have the hardest time with #edtech in the classroom for just that reason?! We should be looking for the next NEW way to teach. #TECHTalkGA
    In reply to @iamryanwhite
  • iamryanwhite Dec 11 @ 9:18 PM EST
A4 We survey schools to find the tools or strategies that they are unfamiliar with. We're about to do a big SAMR push along with 3 trainings with one tool each for the Spring. Teachers don't need 30 apps in 30 minutes. #TECHtalkGA
  • ClintWinter Dec 11 @ 9:18 PM EST
A4: #techtalkga I try babys teps and chipping away. I have a blog that I send out to my staff every friday called https://t.co/qlP7hfBK8T also put all resources and presentations and videos on our instructional technology page. It's all about making it accessible
