#MasteryChat is a weekly chat with a growing family of educators from around the word focused on teaching better and reaching more students. Topics cover an array of challenges and solutions for teachers of all grade levels and subject areas, admins, and support staff.
#MasteryChat occurs every Thursday at 8:00pm eastern.
The chat was created by team at @thegridmethod, but is hosted by guest moderators each week. Our primary moderators are @techieteachott, @raehugart, and @jeffgargas.

Q1: Superheros often have special weapons that help them defeat the bad guys or save the world. Give one example of how you gave your Ss or staff Wings or Blasters this year to help them "save the world" or "conquer" the content. #masterychat
Good evening #MasteryChat , Mike from Alpena, MI checking in. I am currently a middle school special ed teacher. Looking forward to tonight with @tracyscottkelly
A1: I gave my Ss Wings when I taught them how to do #sketchnotes to learn the content, then I combined it with graphic organizers to create #sketchnotesGO that scaffold the process for Ss just learning to #sketchnote . It turned cranky Ss into happy ones! #masterychat

A1: I gave my students a chance to use their voice. We can call that a blaster. They represented themselves in determining what they did to show understanding. They were comfortable telling me when an assignment wasn't working. #MasteryChat

Hi, everyone! First time here - was convinced by a colleague to join in. I'm Kristin from Southern CA - former SPED T and current Tech TOSA! #MasteryChat
A1. This past year, I helped my Ss to see that each of them are creative in their own unique way! Edtech helps us to empower them in finding ways they feel comfortable and confident to share.
This year, I will be empowering Ts to find tools to utilize in their room. #masterychat

A1- Ss were given wings with growth mindset tools, motivational Mondays, FailForwardFridays & blasters with mastery learning & grading #MasteryChat#teachbetter

A1: I try to give my staff all of the tools they need at all times. This year, I provided teachers with flexible seating furniture, text resources to better themselves, and got over half my staff on Twitter to grow their PLNs #masterychat
A1 by providing personalized pd to staff. I meet with staff 1 on 1 or in small group to help them grow where they were!! I saw so many teachers grow because of this support! #MasteryChat
A1, I really tried to allow my staff to use their voice as a blaster. Not just forcing tech on them but allowing them to be more involved in the discussion of what they want to use and help pilot tech #masterychat

A1: Definitely gave my Ss this year with my Choose Your Own Adventure series! Student paced, student choice, badges for mastering skills, and immediate feedback from me! Resulted in empowered #tmgenius students! #masterychat#storyworkshttps://t.co/2fpO4VEXOM

A1: I give my S's wings by allowing them the chance to learn what tjeu want to learn about. by learning and redoing. They can always redo an assinment if they didnt get a good grade or just wanted to to do better because they actually understand the concept better #MasteryChat

I was given some time at faculty meetings to demonstrate standards based grading in my class. Several other teachers and I worked together to develop rubrics and change how they assess. Also got to show them @Flipgrid and we have a staff PD grid now. #MasteryChat

A1 We tried genius hour! I set up a skeleton grid using @thegridmethod & Ss made it their own with everything from investigating the human impact on Alaskan owl habitats to studying the history of video games. Amazing opportunities for research & presentations kills! #Masterychat
A1: When we took our 6th graders to watch "Wonder", we had a powerful lesson after that @JLSnyder67 put together involving a documentary about the real life "Wonder boy". Our students were invested and displayed a lot of empathy. #masterychat
A1 This year I tried to give Ss every possible tool for success. We had videos, interactives, simulations, text, activities and lots of choice. They had the power to choose what tool would be the best for the task in many cases. #masterychat
A1: I taught my students how to read and understand their English proficiency levels! Understanding this will empower them to know what they can't do YET
#masterychat
#masterychat A1-I gave other teachers super powers by showing them what was possible with #blendedlearning. I changed my classroom from teacher to student centered and I didn't teach in front of the class at all. I wrote all about it at https://t.co/z2PKoPpJwR to share the love.
#masterychat I arm my Ss with the power of rejuvenation....in the form of re-assessment. By giving daily skills-based spiraled, interleaved assessments, Ss have the chance to get credit on old content, demonstrate retention, and perpetually review for yr end assessments.
I like being one because it is a vague enough title that lets me do integration with out an endorsement as well as the tech support that got me here #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat A1) SS grew wings when presented with the opportunity to create their own math expressions and equations using @Flipgrid for their peers to practice and provide feedback.
A1:
We were in what seemed like the 100th week of rehearsal of a play that was hugely personal for us and it wasn’t getting any better. So I stepped away. I told the cast that I taught them all they needed to know and put them in charge of the rehearsals. It rocked! #MasteryChat

A1: I had a few students who started talking down about themselves. I gave them each a card with a positive mantra from @harrietturk that they started repeating to themselves each time they were feeling down! #masterychat
Hello! Elodia from Texarkana, TX. Just finished my 15th year in education (from receptionist, teacher, to admin) Finished my 4th year as AP at Nash Elementary a LIM Lighthouse School. Welcome @donnaespindle to tonights #MasteryChat
Welcome to #masterychat ! Who's ready to be SUPER reflective? Introduce yourself, what you do, where you're from, and greet someone else who's joining tonight's chat!
A1: I hope I offered significant training, but I also checked to make sure they understood and didn't have any questions. My door remained open all year. I also made class a place where students wanted to assemble. #seewhatididthere#masterychat
A1 This past year I was able to support a lot of my students’ emotional needs- so many of my kiddos were going through a lot of difficult things and I felt like they knew they could always come to me for support and advice. #masterychat
A1: I gave my Kinders practice in using their imagination and voice at school: from open ended free play, to read alouds, to sharing their stories at morning meeting and talking to kids across the US via FlipGrid #masterychat
Q1: Superheros often have special weapons that help them defeat the bad guys or save the world. Give one example of how you gave your Ss or staff Wings or Blasters this year to help them "save the world" or "conquer" the content. #masterychat
A1: As a SPED T, I teach my Ss self-advocacy. If they don't know how to do something (yet), they learn communication skills, like asking for helping or tools to help them meet success on an assignment. #masterychat
Hi, everyone! First time here - was convinced by a colleague to join in. I'm Kristin from Southern CA - former SPED T and current Tech TOSA! #MasteryChat
Hey all!!! Delaware here! Educatorslooking to change the world with other educators! If your interested sign up here https://t.co/ThbhiHH6f7#MasteryChat
A1: we changed the way we looked at our school and students. We embraced a family first approach. This attitude and image became infectious among the community. The way we were seen and what we had to offer truly became appreciated.
#MasteryChat
A1: Definitely gave my Ss blasters this year with my Choose Your Own Adventure series! Student paced, student choice, badges for mastering skills, and immediate feedback from me! Resulted in empowered #tmgenius students! #masterychat#storyworkshttps://t.co/2fpO4VEXOM
A1: Being each Ss biggest fan. Constantly cheering them up and cheering them on, whatever the engagement is. Telling them that I believe in them and "repositioning them" to see things through our eyes helps to sell the idea that they are having an impact. #masterychat
Q1: Superheros often have special weapons that help them defeat the bad guys or save the world. Give one example of how you gave your Ss or staff Wings or Blasters this year to help them "save the world" or "conquer" the content. #masterychat
A1 #masterychat I told them it was okay if their machine didn't work. They only had to tell me what it was supposed to do and how they could improve it. Ford didn't drive his first idea! 2nd time around for this project and way more inventive prototypes!
Q1: Superheros often have special weapons that help them defeat the bad guys or save the world. Give one example of how you gave your Ss or staff Wings or Blasters this year to help them "save the world" or "conquer" the content. #masterychat
A1: I”m not sure saving the world but with each student or teacher that crosses my path I make a special effort to be truly helpful #MasteryChat#scchat
How did you help build that comfort level? I am sure it took some purposeful conversations and time for them to get to that point. Share some tips with us? #masterychat
This year was my first year at a new school and I have to give thanks to all of the people who gave me wings! This year I gave the rest blasters by volunteering for everything, being in energy, and helping Ss feel loved and valued. #masterychat
Q1: Superheros often have special weapons that help them defeat the bad guys or save the world. Give one example of how you gave your Ss or staff Wings or Blasters this year to help them "save the world" or "conquer" the content. #masterychat
Not only did we provide our teachers with the resources that they felt would make them successful when it came to student learning, we also ensured that we provided the needed data and time to disaggregate to plan ahead. #MasteryChat
Back when I was a student, you weren’t creative unless you were artsy. I believe that with tools like G slides/drawings, @canva, etc. that each student can find a way to create effectively. It’s all about that student choice. :) #masterychat
A1: I gave my intervention Ss wings by having weekly progress monitoring conversations and goal setting. Paired with feedback and encouragement, these kiddos soared to new heights and were very proud of themselves.#MasteryChat
Q1: Superheros often have special weapons that help them defeat the bad guys or save the world. Give one example of how you gave your Ss or staff Wings or Blasters this year to help them "save the world" or "conquer" the content. #masterychat
A1: We did an awesome #BoldSchool book study where we discussed blended learning strategies to increase our efficiency and mastery in a 1:1 chromebook environment. #masterychat

Hi, everyone! First time here - was convinced by a colleague to join in. I'm Kristin from Southern CA - former SPED T and current Tech TOSA! #MasteryChat
A1 I taught my kinders to use their voice to communicate their needs & wants in all circumstances. I also let them have productive struggle so they can see & feel accomplished with difficult situations. Don't understand estimate the youngest. Set high expectations. #MasteryChat
LOVE this! How did you communicate this? I'd love to hear more about how this process went and what it looked like. I think it is something many teachers are aching for! #masterychat
We literally gave them the most powerful weapon ever...their VOICE!
We focused on our speaking and listening skills...so that they can save the world!
#MasteryChat
A2: My "Thor" for tonight, and there are many that I copy from, is @mr_middle_2 ! He's done a lot of work on gamifying his classroom 4 this year, & he's willing to share! He & I'll be collaborating on this project to elevate engagement of our Ss. #masterychat#4OCFPLN
A1. I helped my Ss believe in themselves and grow wings by striking their curiosity in learning, working with their creativity, their inquisitive minds, teaching them to make things, try new things, experiment, dissect, design, build, look prob. diff. #masterychat
A2: I steal and copy many ideas from my #PLN and my colleagues. I don’t know everything, I don’t always babe all of the ideas either. Thus I rely on my people to help me whenever I need it #masterychat
A2: My Thor would have to be @RaeHughart. I learned a ton from her, and I think a ton is an understatement. I got involved in Twitter because of her, and I have grown a lot as an educator. I would not be half the educator I am today without her. #masterychat
A1: As an AP, I do my best to meet w our Ts, listen, & guide them in the areas they need support in. If we want what is best for Ss, we need to do what is best for Ts & be there for support. We all need coaching from time to time--be reflective in your practice #MasteryChat
Q1: Superheros often have special weapons that help them defeat the bad guys or save the world. Give one example of how you gave your Ss or staff Wings or Blasters this year to help them "save the world" or "conquer" the content. #masterychat
A1: Voice to tell their story through “Walk in My Shoes” where they were able to share the colors of their day and allow their vulnerability to empower them and their learning! #masterychat#Nan3EDU
A2 Our #bettertogether story was: a group of students were working on an animation project and audio wouldn't work. A student from another group said I can fix it in IMovie and he did 😀 #MasteryChat
A2~ @_mlb25 ... best colleague that has taught me more patience, grace, belief in myself, strength & practice with having difficult conversations that matter for our Ss... best teacher assistant ever #masterychat
We literally gave them the most powerful weapon ever...their VOICE!
We focused on our speaking and listening skills...so that they can save the world!
#MasteryChat
A2 - My thor is @JeffGargas. He has helped me create, develop and make something like @thegridmethod greater, better and larger than I ever imagined and more than we’d ever imagined it would become. #teachbetter#masterychat
A2: My “Thor” this year was @atkinsonrw17 he really helped me find my voice in our 8th grade team and pushed me everyday to #teachbetter and be better for our kids. I try to copy his leadership and enthusiasm whenever I can. #masterychat
A2: Loved connecting with @klarebeechwood’s class last year! I stole (not really...she shared) her lesson on using sketch notes to reflect on reading #StoryWorks and then our Ss connected on @Flipgrid We have to do it again!! #bettertogether#masterychat
A1- my Ts/colleagues-setting the tone for conversation-"am I listening or am I taking out my toolbox to help you?" Creates comfy relationship! My adult ads can text or use remind in the event they are "nervous" to speak in class-builds relationships and 👇🏻 anxiety! #masterychat
#masterychat Stole an idea from theatre class which I'd visited. An S presents an idea and passes the ball to another S who MUST respond to that idea rather than just shout out a new idea. Made sure Ss were LISTENING and RESPONDING to each other's thoughts.
A1: The weapons I armed my kids read this last year include but are not limited to motivation collaboration, Independence, Global awareness. #masterychat
A1 Ann from Colorado Springs. This hangs outside my door and we talk about what each piece means. Wings (capes) for each of them is something different, but it’s gaining the confidence to take off and fly. #masterychat
A2 My Thor would prefer to remain anonymous. That is what I learned from this person and all of the credit goes to those who are in the trenches and seek our support. That we are there to be servant leaders. #MasteryChat
Conversations about the difference between covering content like a checklist or teaching skills until they're mastered. The sacrifice of time and material is ultimately an investment!
#MasteryChat
A2: I don't have just one Thor. I would have to say that I take a little from everyone that I have come in contact with and combine it all together into something new for each activity. #masterychat
A2: @MrPStrunk. The man, the myth, the legend. A person that dreams big and lives bigger. Constantly selling and developing new ways to connect people and lead students. Honored to call him a brother. #masterychat
A1 I showed my Ss how to use @flipgrid. This gives them a voice and the rest is pure magic. My ELLs practice their oral English without the fear of getting up in front of a class before they are ready. The power of voice. #masterychat
I ditched HW also this year and Ss learned as much or more- they even went home and continued to explore and have convos with Ps about class topics #MasteryChat
Q1: Superheros often have special weapons that help them defeat the bad guys or save the world. Give one example of how you gave your Ss or staff Wings or Blasters this year to help them "save the world" or "conquer" the content. #masterychat
A1 I tried to open their minds to see beyond what they already know. I tried to see how their strengths can help others and vice versa. We also did work to help our bay. #masterychat
A2 my #BetterTogether story is walking into classrooms and seeing ss engaged because teachers collaborated to grow their ideas into something fantastic! #MasteryChat
#BetterTogether- as a new ESOL teacher who teaches science, I “copy” a lot of the amazing work the science content teachers do in my school! They know how to approach the content conceptually & I know how to provide greater lang access & dvlp; collaboration is 🔑 #masterychat A2
A2: Maybe this is cheating, but my Thor this past year was myself from my first year teaching. I started doing some things I had done back then, like having lunch with students, going to their games on the weekend, and focusing on building positive relationships. #masterychat
A2: I know I sound like a broken record on this one but my colleague @MrsBarnett_Tchr - it's so nice to have another T who gets it...esp. when it comes to new strategies or tech tools we want to try in the classroom. #TechTribeEDU#masterychat
A2) My Twitter colleagues keep me going. Additionally, I work with so many exceptional teachers that share successes on a daily basis. My intro into a flipped classes came from collaboration with a great teacher. #masterychat
I co-taught 7th grade math with @mmthenn during our student teaching. I learned so much about special ed as a gen-ed teacher. It. was. awesome. #masterychat#bettertogether
A1: I provided multiple learning opportunities using diff intelligences and assessed them in a variety of ways until I figured out their strengths. Then I assessed each ss in their strength. #masterychat
A2 My "Thor" is @gunnels5G ! I am inspired by how she just jumps in and tries new things. Most of the apps and websites I use are due to her modeling! #masterychat
A2: big shout out to @ASchirg. As a first year leader I did a lot of what I saw him do. He was very steady in his approach. Definitely a powerful influence.
#MasteryChat
A2 Our #bettertogether story was: a group of students were working on an animation project and audio wouldn't work. A student from another group said I can fix it in IMovie and he did 😀 #MasteryChat
A1 I taught my kinders to use their voice to communicate their needs & wants in all circumstances. I also let them have productive struggle so they can see & feel accomplished with difficult situations. Don't understand estimate the youngest. Set high expectations. #MasteryChat
A2 My colleague Mollie and I created a unit where our students read Animal Farm, looked at the comic @JohnLangArt made about Animal Farm, and created their own comics about books that impacted them. Like #LettersAboutLiterature in graphic form! #MasteryChat
A2: My #4OCFPLN is a cast of superheroes with amazing ideas that impact my kids every day. @EMercedLearning in particular impacts how I view my littles and SEL teaching constantly #masterychat
A2. Don’t know that I can name a specific Thor. I have gotten so many ideas from all the chats I participate in. Maybe the best was making several units be project centered instead of giving a test. #MasteryChat
A2: I read a lot of @jmattmiller and am always listening to his podcasts. His blog about @Screencastify was what sparked my interest in the tool. It’s so much more than a T centered tool. #masterychat
A2 - My thor is @JeffGargas. He has helped me create, develop and make something like @thegridmethod greater, better and larger than I ever imagined and more than we’d ever imagined it would become. #teachbetter#masterychat
A2: huge shoutout to my #4thchat PLN i love the conversations that we have and things that everyone tries i learn alot from them. my 2nd thor would be hubby and fellow T @swkreed he pushes and encourages me to be a better T. #masterychat#bettertogether

#masterychat a1 Was just talking about 'no opt out' is a power because it means ss are frightened, fearless all at once. Things get done and that is such a superpower. Even if it did mean them singing Pokemon!
A2: the Ss!! Oh my gosh, the Ss! We had great success showing everyone belongs and making mistakes along the way! We all grew in many ways! #masterychat
A2: Already answered this one but can I just say I already have a feeling @BlairHicks6 is going to be my Thor this year? She’s new to our school but we’ve already connected in so many ways!...Does that make me Loki? #masterychat
This year I helped Ss find their wings by facilitating daily dialogue to explore their individual power to make a difference in the world through acts of #kindness. Ss participated in real life challenges to make a difference in the school & surrounding community. #MasteryChat
We did Genius Hour, writing notebooks, letting them choose read alouds, solving their own issues, morning meetings. We worked all year toward the solo day and what needed to happen for them to earn it. #masterychat
A2: @ScottOste and my other partner in science! Our personalities gel so perfectly together. We build on each other’s strengths which complement each other so perfectly! #masterychat
Big time. They knew that the gradebook was ALWAYS open. Closing the gradebook is like closing the door on hope, IMO. They came to my classroom during the "open" period voluntarily to get help and prove mastery....while their peers just enjoyed free time. #masterychat
A2. My Thor are too many to mention. Every #educhat led to a new idea. I copied and borrowed more ideas from super educators then I can name. #masterychat
I don't think any ONE of us has THE ideas! One of us has a thought, others build on it, still others improve it, and then as a group we refine it! The true power of a #pln! #masterychat
I love this! I think our Ss sometimes forget that kindness really matters - especially with everything that is going on in the world today. #masterychat
Well, first-year me was seven years ago. I'd somehow lost sight of some of those important relationship-building things. Seventh-year me remembered. Now I'm off to start a new adventure in a new district and hope I don't loose track of the ball again! #masterychat
A2 My Thor on here is @ErikaChacra. She is always willing to help and open to any ideas. 1 example of #BetterTogether would be our fun book mobile when we drove all the neighborhoods over the summer looking to give books to any children we saw. #masterychat
A2: My Thor is @brandi_owensby , the high school theatre teacher my kids move on to. We bounce a lot of things around, but 1 thing I stole from her is I don’t post cast lists. I email/post in Schoology. This way everyone can celebrate/cry in their own space. #MasteryChat
A2. My Thor are too many to mention. Every #educhat led to a new idea. I copied and borrowed more ideas from super educators then I can name. #masterychat
A2 #MasteryChat@kate_weber7 is my Thor. Rockstar IBL designer and she taught me how to just go for it. I have stolen her mind map template. She's an ace at putting ideas onto paper.
A2 I worked with two of our teachers to develop a plan to implement digital portfolios. They have so much to share and keep me encouraged. #MasteryChat
A2. My Thor would be one of the professors that I did undergrad research with in our dept. An incred. leader, listener, guidance, skills, knowledge! Sometimes we learn the most from the hardest prof.!#masterychat
I agree! One of my professors has become like a second mother to me! She is the first one I call when I need advice, teaching or otherwise! #masterychat
A3: The unexpected...
Conducting student-to-student read-alouds in the library with multi-needs students and learning so much from them in return.
They are my heroes!
#masterychat
A3: I did not expect to start a chat, podcast, blog, and Youtube channel. It has been incredible to collaborate with so many people and find new, innovative approaches to my craft. #masterychat
A3: I have had some unexpected things happen to me. Whenever I do something out of the box, people are shocked but I am always doing things out of the box and they should be used to it by now. Haha. #masterychat
Yes! @mrmatera is my "Thor" as well, as I've borrowed a TON from him as I prepare for this year!
Would love to hear more about how you gamify, @TechieTeachOtt!
#MasteryChat

A3: We had a challenge at our school where we had to compliment each other and spread kindness. Our students went upstairs and put kind words on the other 6th grade lockers. I decided to write a note to each kid and put it secretly on their desk. #masterychat
a3: i alllowed my students choice of what they could do for one of my last assignments and the S's were so excited about it. I wish i has done it several more times over the school year #masterychat
Yes! I tell parents every Sept. at Back to School Night - it's not only my job to educate their Ss but to leave them more independent than when they came to me. I want these Ss to be independent, functioning and communicating students when they leave my classroom! #masterychat
A3 my positive unexpected was when I had the room set up with glow in the dark planets and stars to get kick-off the solar system unit. The kids loved it and it set the tone for the whole unit. #LearningWasFun#masterychat
#masterychat I did not expect Ss to come up with the idea that they wanted to make videos. So I charged them with making content-based instructional tutorials for next year's Ss. I also did not expect Ss to wish I had provided a more structured rubric. Will do so next year!
A3 - Everyday can have an unexpected turn. I can't think of one moment that was that unexpected, I just try to measure each thing and work hard to help where ever I can #MasteryChat
A2) I have "copied" a lot and created so much based on things I saw other teachers do in their rooms. I recently am excited to learn about flexible seating from @Oto_4thGrade and also I have taken a lot for my School Reading Challenge from @TechNinjaTodd#MasteryChat
A3 When I picked my students up for the first day of class, I wore a wizard robe with a huge hood and carried a wizard staff! It is how we launched out year long #gamification adventure and the students LOVED it! Really set the tone for our classroom for the year. #Masterychat
#masterychat A3-I didn't expect to do any of this. At the beginning of April this year, I made this twitter account and https://t.co/9i7FFd2tOW and started blogging about the things I was doing in my room. Completely unexpected where it has taken me.
A3: I had some really unexpected tough behavior and in turn had to turn up my heart as much as I could...when I was mentally and physically exhausted...but I think it worked #masterychat
A3 I booked our class for several @SkypeClassroom collaborations this year and a Skype Virtual Field trip related to our work on SDG's. My students ❤️❤️ every minute of it 😀 #MasteryChat
A3 finding out i had to move out of my classroom into a admin role one day before starting work was my unexpected! But i am so glad i was given the Oppertunity and took the risk! #MasteryChat
Thank you Kristin. I believe that #kindness is the most important concept to teach and I intentionally embed it within every part of the #Ontariocurriculum. I think we need to do this in order to see more well rounded, kind #youth graduating into the real world. #masterychat
A 2 My Thor is @SrtaLyon. She is the voice of reason who has a very calm way of dealing with students. She reminds me of what's important when things get tough. #masterychat
A3: All year I tried to get myself out of my comfort zone and try new things. If I’m not pushing my self how will I ever expect Ss to push themselves. Always need to get better! #kidsdeserveit#masterychat
A3. I did something similar at the end of the school year by writing encouraging notes to each of my students. I pointed out their strengths I noticed in them. The students felt seen. My heart was on fire. #masterychat#kidsdeserveit
A3: We had a challenge at our school where we had to compliment each other and spread kindness. Our students went upstairs and put kind words on the other 6th grade lockers. I decided to write a note to each kid and put it secretly on their desk. #masterychat
A3 I jumped in and started using #flipgrid to send out a campus wide question of the week to get a conversation started among the teachers. Some responded, but not like I had hoped. Need to get feedback on questions. #masterychat
A3: Early in the year working on BHH with the story Mama. With all the conversations around allowing a text to touch your heart I had students crying and reflecting on their own experiences. It was unexpected and powerful #MasteryChat
A3: After years of trying to get all the pieces in place, I finally jumped in and started an after-school #tabletop club. I expected to have 5 or 6 kiddos join. Instead I had almost two dozen! We met once a week, celebrated birthdays, and had an absolute blast! #masterychat
The unexpected things was, on a whim, 1/2 hr before class, deciding to do individual projects instead of a test and make the students develop the flipped videos instead of me (not the project). They had to do that on the way to making the project. Took was longer. #MasteryChat
A3 - I’ve been amazed at the growth and impact our amazing #teachbetter team at @thegridmethod has had helping teachers across the country! #masterychat
A2: My Thor would have to go #TXED team. I saw them recently at a conference & they shared the impact of learning through Twitter. This past yr I've met some amazing educators on here & hope to share that passion at our district PD in August #MasteryChat
A3: My school lost power for two days and I had to move the MS over to the high school. It ended up being an amazing experience with positive reactions from everyone. Read about it here: https://t.co/1rqVWFeWYn#masterychat
A3 I added “Morning Choice last year. I never knew what a positive impact it would make on my Ss. They loved it so much, they talked to their precious teachers to convince them to implement this soft opening😊#MasteryChat
A3: I fought for change, respect, and a mind shift for our school and kids. It was challenging but to see things evolve was so exciting. We went from drab to pow! Big things continue to come for this school.
#masterychat
A3: This year, part of the fun was collaborating with the students on different activities and asking them for suggestions. It made each new unit more exciting for them and for me. We tried a lot of new ideas! #masterychat
A3: I unexpectedly loved loved loved working with the little ones after being in HIgh School for a long time #MasteryChat note given to me by 7 year old 💕🇨🇦
A3:
A friend of mine, a hospital chaplain donated two of her puppets to my classroom. I thought it was nice of her, but did not anticipate how much my kiddos would love them or how they’d open up my shy kids. #MasteryChat
A3: I think being a person who says yes to new opportunities and activities w/Ss is the way to be! It opens many doors, and you can never predict the paths you'll discover. On the other hand, you also have to expect to say no to make room for depth with your yesses.#masterychat
A3: I asked one day, “what do you want to do since so many are absent?” One girl said make ice cream. So we did! Never did it before and I told Them that. Learned a lot that day about vulnerability, giving ss a choice, taking risks, and to stop fearing failure. #masterychat
A3: Moving into our Lab, shifting from a traditional approach of instruction to a student-centered, inquiry-based environment. Having to break ties with the familiar and do the unfamiliar. Was every day perfect? Not a chance. Did we win? You bet. #MasteryChat
A3 Unexpected things happened almost on a daily basis. The great things about these situations was reacting to them as a team. We were able to come together as a team and push forward. #MasteryChat
A3: I was chosen as a @SCORE4Schools Tennessee #EdFellow. I was not expecting that at all. It's been nice to hear from those around me and their support..#masterychat
A3: I did create an experience for my Ss and within it, I added the unexpected. To drive home the "you can't escape death" theme that Poe used in our story, I had my cosplay buddy @ypastorwolf sneak in amongst my Ss & several tried to run to escape him. #masterychat
I love taking the plunge in involving the community in a new way! I am always SO NERVOUS, but it constantly surprises me how impactful the community is in my students learning! #Masterychat
A3. Yes, I did some out of the box types of activities and experiments with the Ss and I think they learned more from the different activities, different approaches in learning and how to deal with problems! #masterychat
A3 When I picked my students up for the first day of class, I wore a wizard robe with a huge hood and carried a wizard staff! It is how we launched out year long #gamification adventure and the students LOVED it! Really set the tone for our classroom for the year. #Masterychat
#MasteryChat A1 I think Ts who toss ideas out into the ether to see what sticks are superheroes exercising their wings/blasters.. like @davidtedu and his https://t.co/iiWS03QV6T .. engaging and encourages understanding.
A3~ intentionally focused on engaging in more conversations with my students that were authentic, heartfelt & mutually respectful ...results were tremendous growth in all academic & social skills~this created time management juggling, but so worth the investment #masterychat
A3. At the beginning of the year, I would have never expected I would be moving to Philly next year to teach 5th grade in Public school. Super excited for this opportunity, but am going to miss so much about home, especially family! #MasteryChat
A3 I accepted a job as a media specialist for next year! I thought I was done in the education world after a tough year, but I'm excited to jump into this next journey! #masterychat
A3: Lots I could think of! One thing our grade did was a Market Day and it was a great learning experience. The feedback from staff and students was very positive! #masterychat
A3 Our grade 5/6 students participated in a Coding Quest sponsored by @TLPCanada and @SECPSD It was so fun for our students and it was amazing to see their finished projects. #MasteryChat
A3: I applied for a new job as a Tech TOSA. Definitely not what I had planned for myself when the school year began. General reactions were supportive...but I also got some naysayers who tried to rain on my parade. #masterychat
I completely agree with this. @PonderEducation recently asked me to join his team and be on the podcast starting in August. I instantly said yes, and it opened a door for me that I am so thankful for. #masterychat
A3: I think being a person who says yes to new opportunities and activities w/Ss is the way to be! It opens many doors, and you can never predict the paths you'll discover. On the other hand, you also have to expect to say no to make room for depth with your yesses.#masterychat
A1 I gave my students capes when we added more tech and @Seesaw Ss were able to create more authentic representations of their thinking and parents were able to interact in real time #masterychat
You could have teachers submit questions! Also, some kind of recognition/acknowledgement for participation. Maybe they can earn PD credits or early release one day? #masterychat
A3: District focused a lot about resiliency. It was amazing seeing just how much Ss opened up and got in to the lessons when you "got real" with them and shared personal stories while connecting to world events. As I said before - it all starts with relationships #masterychat
A3 unexpected was my dive full on into mastery learning and standards based grading as well as flexible seating in HS...my classroom was controlled chaos, loud & learning and so Ss centered #masterychat
A3: I resigned. It was one of the toughest decisions for me, but the following quote helped me: “sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same.” Now I’llbe teaching part time #stem at private school. I’m super pumped! #masterychat
A3: I did create an experience for my Ss and within it, I added the unexpected. To drive home the "you can't escape death" theme that Poe used in our story, I had my cosplay buddy @ypastorwolf sneak in amongst my Ss & several tried to run to escape him. #masterychat
Is it bad to say teaching 6th grade... there is always a moment that is unexpected in the day? I love the sarcastic life in a 6th Grade Math Class! #Masterychat
A3 I tried out a data night with Ps with very real talk and the data in front of them. It was the first for my school and I was the only Thing who did it. It was powerful. I hope some other Ts will do it next year. #masterychat
@masterychat Just one? OMG! I have many many who I read and listen to and who inspire me on a daily basis. But, one? @StantonAlana because her joy of life and compassion have made me want to be better every day.
A2: My “Thor”s are @StantonAlana and @itsmeSpiri . They have both taught me about the importance of maintaining a grateful heart and being passionate about what/who you believe in! #MasteryChat
A3: I challenged myself to take more risks this yr & moved out of my comfort zone. I surprised people by hosting #MasteryChat in March which was a phenomenal experience. I surprised myself when I did some presentations & finally realized I was capable of public speaking!♥️
A3: my whole year is always unexpected! That's what I love about being a teacher! It's new and different everyday....lame answer but Candid Carrie is who I am! #masterychat
A3 It was a year of unexpected surprises such as finding out the #FlipgridBusTour was coming to my HS, getting a visit from the @newsela CEO, being named the Air Force Association Chapter Stem Teacher of the Year. All a result of team work from so many colleagues. #masterychat
#masterychat Yes- Hurricane Harvey shut down school for more than two weeks and the aftermath is still felt throughout Houston. We really came together as a community- but also as a class because we opened up and really talked about not only how and why? but what now?
Your team has inspired me beyond measure. Truly, I feel embraced and supported as a new teacher, and I have tears in my eyes thinking about the impact this #masterychat PLN has had on me. Seriously, no words are enough. @TechieTeachOtt@RaeHughart@chadostrowski@jeffgargas
A3 - I’ve been amazed at the growth and impact our amazing #teachbetter team at @thegridmethod has had helping teachers across the country! #masterychat
A3) cont. Out of a rough situation came a great lesson to help me turn the year around. I really enjoyed creating the Carmen Sandiego lesson to push my Ss to practice Main Idea nad Inference, but it also got my Ss and I to enjoy the moment and build relationships. #MasteryChat
A3: One day I was out of school, and when I came back to my classroom I found a comic book made by my students on my desk. Below are a few pictures from it. I cried after reading this book #masterychat
A3: I challenged myself to take more risks this yr & moved out of my comfort zone. I surprised people by hosting #MasteryChat in March which was a phenomenal experience. I surprised myself when I did some presentations & finally realized I was capable of public speaking!♥️
A2: My “Thor”s are @StantonAlana and @itsmeSpiri . They have both taught me about the importance of maintaining a grateful heart and being passionate about what/who you believe in! #MasteryChat
There are not enough characters, memes or images to express how much I love this right now. Mastery learning + Standards based Grading + Flexible seating = Tiffany swooning!
#masterychat
A3 unexpected was my dive full on into mastery learning and standards based grading as well as flexible seating in HS...my classroom was controlled chaos, loud & learning and so Ss centered #masterychat
A2: My “Thor”s are @StantonAlana and @itsmeSpiri . They have both taught me about the importance of maintaining a grateful heart and being passionate about what/who you believe in! #MasteryChat
A3 Unexpected was that this group of Ss were able to track their data in spreadsheets, and also make choices about their learning, practice, and demo of mastery. They surprised and impressed me! #Masterychat
Aaaah! It has only been half an hour but I have to run out--have a conference call for an amazing teen leadership conference I am staffing next week! Later, friends! #masterychat
A3 Many things happened in my career this year that were unexpected. I always expect the unexpected. New doors, new opportunities, yet the focus remains on Ss! #MasteryChat
Q4 During a challenging day this year (scheduling, full moon, sickness, etc.), tell about a last second strategy/activity that came in “clutch.” #masterychat
It is the best decision I have ever made. The first 10 min. of the school day is spent playing life size checkers, Jenga, Banana Grams, LEGOS,puzzles. Ss shared their goal for the 10 min and reflection. It cut down on tardies👍🏼 Ss could not wait for it. #Masterychat#engagement
A3) I had a rough experience this year with a student teacher that left me in a bad place and left my class behind. I felt really depressed and conflicted about teaching and if I was any good. I turned to the situation around by creating a fun Carmen Sandiego lesson. #masterychat
A3.2 My other surprise came when I was asked to create the 4th grade curriculum for my district and then being asked by the DOE to do contract work. Killing my comfort zone kind of year. #masterychat
#masterychat Great chat tonight!
Don't forget to join me for #edChatRI this Sunday at 8pm EST. We will be talking about advocating for the teaching profession.
A2 My Thor this year was @TaraMartinEDU I added #BookSnaps to my class and my Ss loved them. I loved how much information they were able to present in their snaps. It really shows what they know. #masterychat
Try to connect to your admin. See if you can get one of them on board with persistent nagging (an approach I have found to be quite effective!)
#masterychat
A3: I took on the role of Kindergarten teacher for the first time in my 28 year career, after serving in system-level roles for the previous 16 years. Many colleagues and friends were pleasantly surprised! 😊 #MasteryChat
A4 - I think my tactic is always communication. There are always bugs in the system or something that i needed. I try to just tell people what is going on....wireless is down, don't worry, I need to reboot some APs and we will get back #masterychat
A4: The new, totally created by Ss classroom game, @gimkit totally came in clutch for me during second semester. The high engagement and rapid learning of content made it a double win! #masterychat
This sounds like an awesome idea! So many times parents get pieces of paper with Ss data and they have no idea how to interpret it or what it even means for their child. It's great to have those discussions with parents. #masterychat
A4 this one is hard! Probably using @Canva to has Ss create a tweet about their learning and using @Mentimeter to poll Ss and create a wordle- they loved it! #masterychat
A3 Many things happened in my career this year that were unexpected. I always expect the unexpected. New doors, new opportunities, yet the focus remains on Ss! #MasteryChat
Oh my gosh it was so fun. This year I am actually planning on not doing a full year game. My Ss will be doing mock internships using the #teachfurther model, and so each unit will be a game in itself. I get to play in 10 different #gamified worlds over the next year! #masterychat
A4 When the internet is acting up, you have to go low tech! Pulled out some mystery pictures I created for my First graders years ago and used for making inferences with my 3-5th graders. They loved it! #masterychat
Q4 During a challenging day this year (scheduling, full moon, sickness, etc.), tell about a last second strategy/activity that came in “clutch.” #masterychat
Aww thank u! #Twitter friends inspired me so much in the 1 yr since I joined. The people I’ve met & the experiences I’ve had altered my life. I’m so grateful to so many people. My journey to host a chat began with @jeffgargas saying “I believe in u.” 4 power words. #MasteryChat
A3: I challenged myself to take more risks this yr & moved out of my comfort zone. I surprised people by hosting #MasteryChat in March which was a phenomenal experience. I surprised myself when I did some presentations & finally realized I was capable of public speaking!♥️
A4b I also try to take keys from all your great Ts to understand how to be a better coordinator. I see how you react to issues with Ss and try to make your lives easier! #MasteryChat
A3: we received a grant for green screen equipment. I took our HS Ss some time to get excited about all the possibles it offers but now they are creating, editing & sharing without staff support! Room is open to use when they need it. #masterychat
A4: I want my tactic to be spreading kindness. I try to be as kind as possible because I know how much that makes a difference. Of course, I am human, and I do have rough days once in a while, but my Ss need me to be my best version of myself. #masterychat
A4: strategy that I use is the question...."is this going to matter next week?" If the answer is no, than....take it in stride, it will pass! If yes, recruit your PLN, friends and maybe your dog and ....#masterychat
A4: I have come to really appreciate sketchnoting as swiss army knife type of assignment. It makes great pre-assessment, note-taking, and extension activities. Students do well with it! #masterychat
A4: A hard conversation with a S and principal about vaping in my class. Forgiveness was the strategy and it started a real dialog between the S and me. #masterychat
A4 - Being able to be flexible and provide flexible coaching to T’s, Schools and Districts that meet their needs has always been an asset! #masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn’t like your idea and had a better one. If that didn’t happen, do you get S feedback after activities/lessons? #masterychat
#masterychat Many times when I get severe migraines I have to have a back up plan-I explain day 1 to students about my migraines and what I need from them when I get them. They are the 'clutch' I have a makerspace activity or student-led debate & they lead the class-it is amazing
Q4 During a challenging day this year (scheduling, full moon, sickness, etc.), tell about a last second strategy/activity that came in “clutch.” #masterychat
A3) I am excited to say I was unexpectedly surprised by the number of students who participated in our School Reading Challenge and how many found books that they enjoy because of it. #masterychat
A3: It always surprises me that being real and genuine over anything else opens the most doors as a teacher with my students and as a professional in the workplace. At the end of the day, it’s all about putting humans first. #MasteryChat
A4: 8th graders loved to argue (I mean they are teenagers, of course) and try to persuade others they are right. Loved having them debate concepts discussed in our stories or topics that related to pop culture in speed debating or in socratic seminars #masterychat
#masterychat A4 - Definitely not educational, but in a pinch, we play "Silent Ball" in my class. Students sit on the desks and throw a tennis ball around. If someone drops the ball, they are out. If you talk, you are out. They LOVE IT!!
What is your "go to" method for flexible coaching? My Ts don't like coming to PLCs so I'm hoping to send out quick, flexible PD sessions via tech next year. #masterychat
A4 Drop everything & team build! When my Ss are having a wretched day- something crazy happened at lunch, grade wide friend drama- sometimes they just shut down. I like to take a break to play a team building game. This is a favorite! https://t.co/gOv1j0bAgK#masterychat
A4: I introduced probability relating it to March Madness and how improbable it was for @UMBC_MBB to defeat Virgina. Showed some YouTube highlights...Full disclosure I love talking 🏀 #masterychat
A4: Heading into Spring Break, we decided to throw out a game design challenge using @koduteam to end our quarter with our group. Full engagement and students supporting each other in the development process. #MasteryChat
Q4 During a challenging day this year (scheduling, full moon, sickness, etc.), tell about a last second strategy/activity that came in “clutch.” #masterychat
A4: I gave my kids manipulative and had them make up number stories to tell on Flip Grid with a partner. EVERY kiddo was engaged (even my friend who was having a hard time joined in) #masterychat
Q4 During a challenging day this year (scheduling, full moon, sickness, etc.), tell about a last second strategy/activity that came in “clutch.” #masterychat
A5: I frequently have negotiations with my college students about due dates and essay requirements. Nothing compromises the skills; nothing will threaten our trust.
#masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn’t like your idea and had a better one. If that didn’t happen, do you get S feedback after activities/lessons? #masterychat
Q4 During a challenging day this year (scheduling, full moon, sickness, etc.), tell about a last second strategy/activity that came in “clutch.” #masterychat
A5 - A student didn’t like a project I had designed so I let them re-design their own! They even made a rubric! It was awesome! #teachbetter#masterychat
A3 #masterychat gave my physics Ss free reign to write a letter to superintendent to go to amusement park with all curriculum links. When denied made a plan B on drive home. Broke my heart to tell Ss but plan B was an equal success. So proud of my Ss. Love learning with them!!
A3: I did a cartwheel in the hall in front of some freshmen as part of a presentation (can't remember what the cartwheel was for). They still talked about it at the end of the year 😂 #masterychat
PS- mine was better than Creed's :)
Hey #MasteryChat! Going to hang out with the sick puppy tonight... She had minor surgery today and isn't feeling too well. Thanks so much for the ideas and support!
A5: Always asking for student feedback on different activities - Google Forms and @Flipgrid come in clutch for this. I like knowing what they enjoyed, didn't enjoy, and recommendations for improvement. They make me better : ) #masterychat
Just wanted to thank my amazing #masterychat PLN for all the love, support, and encouragement. All of you are my true superheroes, and I am so thankful for each and every one of you.
A4: This post has saved my life so many times in my math class! Full of great math activities that kids love that take as much time as you want! #masterychathttps://t.co/Y5n6KNl12G
A5: I LOVE when this happens during our play to learn time. The kids take what I’ve put out and asked for additional things or materials they needed to keep the play/thinking/building going #Masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn’t like your idea and had a better one. If that didn’t happen, do you get S feedback after activities/lessons? #masterychat
A4 remember your #WhyITeach and step into those relationships you've built. Content will come in it's time but a person might have other needs first #masterychat
A5: I teach HS, so I get solicited and unsolicited feedback all of the time. :) I have a Friday writing activity that was created by Ss, and we tweaked it several times this year through S suggestions. Love getting S feedback to help me improve activities & lessons! #masterychat
A5 I haven't planned anything they didn't like but I gave them a Survey type question at the end of the year asking about what they loved, what they hoped to do more of etc. #MasteryChat
A5: I always let my Ss give their feedback for their self paced learning - they didn't like the way we were monitoring their progress so we changed it up! #masterychat
A5: My Ss are in charge of their own learning throughout the year driven by #PBL or #leadlearners on standards so they steer their experience which in turn empowers moments of magnitude. They have been disappointed in flopped ideas but bounce back quickly! #masterychat
A4. My tactic is kindness. I like to keep Ss guessing and curious as to what will be coming next! Expect the unexpected in problem solving! #masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn’t like your idea and had a better one. If that didn’t happen, do you get S feedback after activities/lessons? #masterychat
A5 This is a tough one because my students have so much choice & control over how they learn and share their understanding. They did have some strong opinions about a specific assignment in our fossils unit that they felt was redundant. Upon further review, I agreed! #Masterychat
Q5 My students got bored with a game I made for them during math centers, so they added new rules and components. Giving them ownership makes learning more authentic and meaningful. #masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn’t like your idea and had a better one. If that didn’t happen, do you get S feedback after activities/lessons? #masterychat
a5: Didnt have that happen but i do let my students give me feedback. They loved that i started giving them feedback on their fluency via @Flipgrid and they were just between me and the S's #masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn’t like your idea and had a better one. If that didn’t happen, do you get S feedback after activities/lessons? #masterychat
A5: The kids despise annotations, which I get. So... even though we modified them the kids were not happy. So... I asked them for an alternate suggestion. They basically "invented" book snaps--although there was already such a thing. It was great! #masterychat
Q4 During a challenging day this year (scheduling, full moon, sickness, etc.), tell about a last second strategy/activity that came in “clutch.” #masterychat
A5: We continually work to get feedback from staff, specifically during PD days; this info is used to reflect and plan as an instructional team #masterychat
A5 Ss asked to work on the puzzle I had out instead of the activity I had planned on making inferences. Since they did not have a picture to go by, I thought it was a great way of making inferences! #masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn’t like your idea and had a better one. If that didn’t happen, do you get S feedback after activities/lessons? #masterychat
A4: I loved that even though I was out ill more than I liked this year, my kiddos were able to access everything they needed through Google Classroom. They worked collaboratively in my absence - helping the younger kinder Ss get on...which helped them and the sub! #masterychat
A5: We are always seeking feedback from Ss. It's interesting to see how much they talk, and what they have to say about what we do, when they know that you truly value what they are saying. I appreciate their honesty. #masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn’t like your idea and had a better one. If that didn’t happen, do you get S feedback after activities/lessons? #masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn’t like your idea and had a better one. If that didn’t happen, do you get S feedback after activities/lessons? #masterychat
A4 This year I added sensory bins, more flexible seating and a lot of movement breaks. Those were my go to stratgies when things were starting to go wrong. I also reached out for assistance with a specific situation because those strategies weren’t working #masterychat
A4: I try not to let things get the best of me. On challenging days...I go visit a PreK classroom. Those Ss are happy to see you, hug you, & want to share their entire day w you. <3 #MasteryChat
A5: I had a college professor who gave us a handout after an exam that showed us our errors and allowed us to reflect on our learning. I was inspired and provided my Ss with a reflection form as well along with a survey mid-year on ways I could improve. #masterychat
A4: @TEDTalks are good for the brain and the soul. I covered a period of 6th grade social studies at the last minute, we watched half of @waitbutwhy “Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator” and had an amazingly insightful fishbowl about how decisions impact life. #MasteryChat
A4) I love doing Morning Meeting it can get the sharing the kids need out and open before a lesson but I love playing games too. I loved to play Silent Ball for fun or even give them a letter and come up with as many words as possible that starts with that letter. #masterychat
Did you miss Question 4? I got you!
Q4: During a challenge day this year (scheduling, full moon, etc) tell us about a last second strategy that came in "clutch".
#Masterychat
Did you miss Question 5? Here it is!
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn't like your idea and they had a better one. If that didn't happen, do you get S feedback after lessons? #Masterychat
#masterychat A5 - When I started doing self-paced playlists, I asked my students for their feedback via google forms.. I wrote a blog about what they said. Here it is: https://t.co/sik1U9PoSe
A4:
We do good things daily. But a couple times each semester, when everything seems to be going wrong for all of us at once, we have a “venting time.” Some kids call it “bad things.” And we share frustrations in a safe place where everything stays in the classroom. #MasteryChat
A5: Feedback is so important to me as a growing professional - esp. when it comes from the Ss. I ask them what they liked about activities, what they would change, and to make it better for next year. They have given me ideas for PBL projects to try next year! #masterychat
A4 #MasteryChat no clutch activity but had a discussion with all my grads explaining why I missed so many classes at beginning of semester. Kept them abreast of all pending appts. I think it made for a more respectful relationship going both ways.
A4: Used @flipgrid on a three day "snow-cation" to get some feedback from students on what they had learned over the past week. Keep the learning going! #MasteryChat
It is awesome how you have gone all in at getting better for your Ss! Your first year will be challenging, but this support system that you have made for yourself is so awesome. I can’t wait to follow your #newteacherjourney#inspiring#masterychat
A5: my adult Ss are expecting the old fashioned T- I am so out of the box they have to jump on the "let's see if this works train!" They are apprehensive BUT do it....and well as adults....they let you know if it's good or not....🤦🏻♀️#masterychat
A5 #masterychat Feedback from students should be frequent- but from parents as well. If we keep parents involved in their child's learning- the community will be complete- parents are our allies and if we build relationships with them-they will support us unequivocally
Q4: During a challenge day this year (scheduling, full moon, etc) tell us about a last second strategy that came in "clutch".
#Masterychat@thegridmethod
A5: Students were frustrated when I did PBL for one unit. They asked "when are we going to go back to normal school." I talked to them about how this was normal school, and our mindsets played a big role in how we learned. I think it opened some of their eyes! :) #masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn't like your idea and they had a better one. If that didn't happen, do you get S feedback after lessons? #Masterychat@thegridmethod
Thank you Christine and likewise. @tracyscottkelly is also daily inspiration to me as well as so many others I wish I could name. I hope they know who they are and how much their ongoing support & kindness means to me. #masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn’t like your idea and had a better one. If that didn’t happen, do you get S feedback after activities/lessons? #masterychat
A5: During my woodworking/geometry project, the Ss had a better idea like every day. Funny how that works when the kids are engaged AND inspired to make something happen. #masterychat
A5: I had a very small class of heritage speakers this past year. They self selected many topics on issues important to them: anxiety, depression, suicide, acceptance, LGBT. All were engaged in their work!#MasteryChat
It is awesome how you have gone all in at getting better for your Ss! Your first year will be challenging, but this support system that you have made for yourself is so awesome. I can’t wait to follow your #newteacherjourney#inspiring#masterychat
Same! I asked 3rd hour how I could make my activity or delivery of content better for 5th hour! They were super helpful! HS Ss are great at helping me get better! #masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn't like your idea and they had a better one. If that didn't happen, do you get S feedback after lessons? #Masterychat
A5: My students would tell me any time they thought there might be a better way. I told them to try it. If it didn't work no harm. If it did then i made the adjustment to keep evolving with my students. #masterychat
A1: Ss: "Never give up!" "I only expect your best from you & your best may not look like your classmate's best. That's what makes us all different and that's what's magical!" #masterychat
A5 #masterychat Feedback from students should be frequent- but from parents as well. If we keep parents involved in their child's learning- the community will be complete- parents are our allies and if we build relationships with them-they will support us unequivocally
A4: If in doubt hand it over to the kids! They know exactly what they like, dislike and stectotally passionate about. When I have a crazy mixed up day they lead the way! #masterychat
A4 Having to reschedule teachers, classes, and students at the last minute due to budget cuts. Never easy but has to be done to make sure that Ss get the best possible offerings. #masterychat
A4: A clutch moment happened while I was observed. WiFi was down right before my tech-based lesson. Adapted lesson in less than 15 min in front of my advisor and received an email just before class that wifi was back up 🙄Advisor was impressed, I was stressed. #masterychat
Thanks to 1/2 days, one section was a 1/2 day ahead of the other. Used a choose your own adventure style @MetaverseApp game to intro the digestive system before the project proposal were dues #MasteryChat
Q4 During a challenging day this year (scheduling, full moon, sickness, etc.), tell about a last second strategy/activity that came in “clutch.” #masterychat
A6 I try to get into the classroom right away and help them set up and learn what types of tools they like to use. Make them know that the tech team is there to help them!
#MasteryChat
Keep with that! Dont let it ever bring you down! There is incredible reflection in this practice. If you ever question a response you have two options : ask your students again or reach out to a friend to brainstorm!
Happy to be your brainstorm buddy if needed #Masterychat
My kids have a lot if choice in my classroom so I gave options for coming up with their own projects or activities if they didn’t like what I suggested. We are big on communication & respect for each other’s opinions #MasteryChat
A5 This is a little tougher question for me. I think bc I teach kindergarden. You can definitely tell S reaction by their interaction and I can make adjustments accordingly but for the most part the Ss are happy 😀 #masterychat
A6 I'm going to get my students to interview each other using specific questions. Build a slide to represent that student and present them to the group #masterychat
A5:
This happenedto me a couple of times. I meant for activities to be quick 1 day, ensemble work, and the Ss ideas led to more days, but much deeper learning w/ additional learning I hadn’t intended. For that, I can be flexible! #MasteryChat
A6: Help new teachers feel like they're not catching up; they are contributing to a new adventure that starts now with plenty of sidekicks.
#masterychat
A5: I was co-teaching an activity that required the students to use/create Bitmojis. Many already had the app on their phones and recommended that we allow them to that device instead of their Chromebooks. Worked GREAT and saved time!! #masterychat
A5) I teach 5th grade & I was teaching math &had Ss coming to the board. I could tell that the rest of the room just wasn't over half not paying attention so I passed out drums and let kids hit their drums everytime a person did a step correctly. #masterychat
A5 #masterychat I think having a strong 2way relationship with Ss has us both comfortable: with me getting them to try something new and them feeling comfortable giving feedback. Did have one discussion about constructive vs negative feedback though.
A5 #Masterychat My team really came together after Harvey and together we reworked the lessons and made sure that our students got what they needed academically, emotionally and socially. Build a strong team- find your Twitter PLN and teaching becomes a family.
A6: My grand plan to start the year off as a team: We buy white tee shirts & have Ss, staff, & families sign/decorate them at our back to school bash. Then we all wear them on the first day of school. (modified from @TechNinjaTodd 's last day of school white suit). #masterychat
A4~ during a lesson that was way too loud, somewhat chaotic & not enough sharing happening, we (Ts&Ss) cleaned up all materials, had a fireside chat about what worked, what didn’t & we started over-total hit and fan favorite! Why? Stakeholders felt valued &empowered #masterychat
A6: Invite them to lunch, and give them a welcome pack of supplies. Stop by and see if they need any help and keep them posted on nuances that aren't necessarily stated in the teacher handbook. #masterychat
A5: We start off class with a media/poem warmup based on media or a poem, and we were writing about a cartoon that revolved around a phone book. Went over their heads, and one S pulled up a Doc with a list of videos for the class to write about. Mind blown. #MasteryChat
A6: I actually just got back from having dinner with several teachers, including one of the new Ts (who used to work with my wife!). I think intentionally seeking them out and welcoming them goes a long way! #masterychat
A6 When I started at my current school the T across the hall came in to work on her room. We met and she took me out to lunch, which helped me relax before school. Ts get scared at a new school just like Ss do. #masterychat
Thanks a ton Rae, I would love that! I took a lot of what they said into consideration. It's their classroom anyway! I need to meet THEIR needs. #masterychat
A6 I AM the incoming staff this year! I am changing positions to work part time at an independent school in Hudson, Ohio and part time with the amazing team at @thegridmethod!
Smiles go a long way. Also, repeatedly tell new teachers your name- it's hard to remember! #Masterychat
Sure starting there is good, but it is important to go back to it and evaluate where you are now. Has your why changed? If so, what does that mean #Masterychat
A5: I had students reflect on my performance and curriculum as a student teacher 3 times over the course of the semester. I took their praise and criticism to heart, and adapted my teaching and lessons to what they asked for/needed. #masterychat
A6: As a new teacher, I already attended a day of meetings in June and met the teachers I will be working with. They have been so kind and supportive, and they truly embrace me as a new teacher. That is powerful. #masterychat
A5. I had a Ss who didn't like the one project we were working on, so I asked her for some ideas that she wanted to do for activities. The sad part was that we did the volcano project, but she wasn't present for it due to other activities! #masterychat
A6: So important to invite people to sit at PD tables, go for lunch, etc., especially if the new person is not part of a grade-level team. Also, listen. Let the new person share ideas and bring expertise and invest in your community of awesomeness. #masterychat
A6 Get to know them! I'll be new too, so build a relationship from the beginning. Ask if they have any ideas. Show openness and encouragement. #masterychat
A5 A student this year asked if the students could pick the articles that we read weekly in @Newsela. That was the best move of the year. The Ss are so much more engaged when they choose the topics. The topics don't matter to me. #masterychat
A6: How to make new team members feel welcome? We’re being paired up as mentors to new staff to answer all #TMGenius questions about our school. You may need to ask @BlairHicks6 but I’ve been chasing after her so far this summer as her mentor. 😂 #Masterychat
A4: If in doubt hand it over to the kids! They know exactly what they like, dislike and are totally passionate about. When I have a crazy mixed up day they lead the way! #masterychat
A5: My goal this year is to get more Ss feedback through my AP #ObserveMe I jumped on the bandwagon late in the year w our staff. I plan on doing one with Ts & Ss this year :) #MasteryChat
Just reading about that today. Want to help them during our pre-service days to set up their classroom. This is new for me. Thanks for reminding me about the little things new teachers need. #MasteryChat
A6: supporting without judgement; collaborate, share ideas; it's not a one-way street- new colleagues bring their own knowledge/experiences so take time to listen and learn from them as well as provide guidance #masterychat
A6 #Masterychat ABOVE ALL listen. They will have questions and concerns and if you are intentionally listening and are present in interactions with them they will feel a part of a group. Isolation is an enemy of education and we must find ways to build a strong community.
A6: Sometimes it can be difficult to ask for help or just approaching people you don't know, especially when you're in a new situation and feeling overwhelmed. Check in frequently and talk to them getting to know them as a person. Be open to their ideas, too #masterychat
A6 offering help! Giving team members treats like chocolate & caffeine, take them to lunch. I’ll be be new to a blg this year so I hope to be welcomed #masterychat
#MasteryChat A6- I think that many new staff members get disregarded just because they are new to the building - regardless of their past experience. Get to know new staff members and their experience. Make them feel like their expertise matters and that new ideas are welcome.
#masterychat It's always important to ask new staff members what they see, are experiencing, and what Qs or solutions they have. You hire someone not to make them be like you, but because you need to become more like them. Make sure they feel welcome and safe offering ideas!
A5: I ask for feedback from my Ss after every activity and assessment. This year I thought I had a genius activity for teaching rotations to my 8th graders... everything that could go wrong did, but it led to great conversation! #masterychat
Q5: Describe a time this year where your Ss didn’t like your idea and had a better one. If that didn’t happen, do you get S feedback after activities/lessons? #masterychat
A5.2
I ask Ss to reflect on my teaching, their learning, our work together. At the beginning of the semester, I ask them to do it out loud, so I can demonstrate how to table criticism bc that’s imperative in our 🎭 work. Talk about being vulnerable. Yikes! #MasteryChat
A6 Welcome swag bags (school shirt, gift card, and school lanyard) are always a hit. We also ❤️ teaching our new staff cheers to welcome them. We want them to be hyped up to be at our school, not overwhelmed #masterychat
Quesiton 6 is here! Q6: When school beings this fall, what can we do to make new team members feel welcome? Share your ideas for incoming staff. #Masterychat
A6: As a recent new teacher, I so appreciated Ts who wanted to share ideas reciprocally. It made me feel useful and benefits everyone to have a strong PLC. #MasteryChat
A6: As I will be the new one on campus and a new TOSA, I'm going to visit all of my assigned school sites and make it my mission to meet EVERY single teacher who I will be working with - regardless if they never invite me back in after that. :) #masterychat
A6. This question warms my heart as I will be a brand new teacher this fall. I am so excited to learn from the experienced teachers and be supported through my ups and downs. #masterychat
A6: giving them a small welcome basket and introducing yourself goes a long way to helping new staff feel welcomed. Also telling them if they need help with anything to let you know and you will help them #masterychat
A6: So important 💕💕💕Check in on them regularly Ask them to go for lunch Email them your support Ask them to sit with you Engage them in conversation a lot Be helpful offer them your resources #Masterychat
A3: I implemented a Peace Corner after hearing about them at @DHEPrincipal 's Trauma-Informed Bootcamp. Game changer!! Kids go there to self-regulate (after a ton of instruction). It takes away the punitive piece when kids just need a moment to get back on track. #masterychat
A6) I think it would be great to have a teacher welcome bash & do some fun teambuilding or a group escape room. I think there needs to be a chance for Ts to share their ideas & get to know one another prior to kids and prior to people getting too busy in their rooms. #MasteryChat
“Yesterday I was clever so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise so I am changing myself.” Rumi
#masterychat
This change comes with mindfulness and making sure those around you find their place in the community
A6 Lucky with this at my school. We talk a lot, smile, say hello, check in on each other just because, and stop in to get to know each other, Offer help, share resources, be open to their ideas, listen, help them learn the layout, plan together, answer questions. #masterychat
A6. I think we when introduce ourselves, we should say our names and something about ourself other than our titles. So often I notice the title ends up creating barriers or cliques. We need to build relationships with each other as people first. #bettertogether#MasteryChat
A6: As a new teacher fresh out of college, I admit that I was worried about being a new teacher, but the teachers saw that I used technology and really made me feel like I was part of the team from the beginning. New teachers, never underestimate your value. #masterychat
Thanks a ton Rae, I would love that! I took a lot of what they said into consideration. It's their classroom anyway! I need to meet THEIR needs. #masterychat
A6 I’ve already reached out to new teachers & have offered my help. Our school also has a New Teacher Academy to help teachers feel more supported #MasteryChat
A6~ model kindness and offer help continuously ... be honest/transparent with them not just with the successes but with the bumps in the road ~ listen, empower, inspire #masterychat
This is such a great sentiment! So many Ts forget what it was like to be the new face on campus and how good it feels when someone makes you feel welcome. #masterychat
A6-The AP and I took all new Staff members to lunch today. This gives them the opportunity to get to know us, one another, and have familiar faces at new teacher trainings. #masterychat
A6 #masterychat The first step- say hello and introduce yourself. Offer assistance- there is so much to know that new teachers are simply overwhelmed- offer help and let them come to you- do not bombard them with new information- let them ease in and get comfortable first.
A6: This year we only had to hire one new teacher! I plan on trying to help him with everything I can. Last year I was the newbie and can’t wait to show him a welcome like my staff gave to me. #masterychat
A6: Judgement and cold shoulders...or the opposite. I want to invite new Ts in to see what I am doing and offer chances to collaborate. I do not beg but happy to extend the offer :) #masterychat
Thanks! It was rough and I might not take on another for a while, but I'm excited about this new year. Love the shirt! I LOVED the TV show! #masterychat#SoManyMemories
Q7: Do you have big changes planned for next year that require a strong will to accomplish (level of difficulty, lack of $, push-back from Ss and/or staff)? Please share them! #masterychat
That is so big to model for Ss, especially in middle school. The fastest way that I built trust with my students was asking for feedback and implementing their good ideas. #MasteryChat
A6: Starting a "buddy" program for all new teachers to the building as well as Mentors for the 1st and 2nd yrs. Not using the word, buddy, BTW. Using Partners! #masterychat
Yes, we need to share our struggles too. Others have been through it and others will go through it at another point. We learn from others' experiences. #MasteryChat
A6: @Flipgrid intros! Also, face to face conversations. Nothing beats that. Making people feel welcome by asking them questions about who they are and what makes them special. #masterychat
A4: Toward the end of the school year, my littles were just bonkers, even the ones that I didn't normally have problems with. I stopped and told them we were all going to get a chance to choose our favorite song, dance, video. It was like a dance party!!
#masterychat
A6: make sure they have a smile from you in the morning and before they leave - ask if they want to have lunch...think about being a freshman in HS and all that anxiety and uncertainty....adults get it too! #masterychat
Love the mentor program @TME_tigers! I feel so welcomed and less anxious about the school year. @k_callahan4 is my peanut butter and I’m the jelly 😊 #masterychat
In reply to
@k_callahan4, @TME_tigers, @k_callahan4
A6: As Principal I will help new teachers set up their classrooms, take them out to lunch, provide professional development for them but most importantly, get to know them as a person and together we will do what is best for kids..#masterychat
A6: We take our new Ts out for lunch & get to know them better. When all staff returns we spend the 1st day w team building activities. Lots of fun & laughter. #MasteryChat
A6:
Listen, be honest w/out pessimism. Don’t give advice unless they want it—goes w/ listening! Offer support feedback chocolate coffee/coke/other yummies. Talk about other things than school. Let them sit in your room and relax. (I have a couch, so they like that) 😁#MasteryChat
A6: I will be a "new" teacher this year- I worked as a para at the school I got hired at for 2.5 years, student taught a semester, and now get to teach there. Looking forward to extending my relationships with coworkers into this new realm! #masterychat
Q7: Do you have big changes planned for next year that require a strong will to accomplish (level of difficulty, lack of $, push-back from Ss and/or staff)? Please share them! #masterychat
A6) make the beginning of school a bigger celebration than the end. Make sure new members of staff have time to get to know one another. Everyone brings value #masterychat
It almost always surprises me what students remember and love on their surveys. It’s not about the dog and pony show as much as it’s important to implement collaboration and choice daily. #MasteryChat
I do something similar with my preschoolers. Pull up (or out of a folder) a picture and have them tell me everything they notice about the picture. Some of the littles are so observant!! #masterychat
Help me finish please! If humans were like dogs, they would....
Please no vulgarity. I’m going to ask my little 7yr old neighbor to illustrate, but feel free to add your own illustration as well! Let’s #collaborate on twitter to make a Twitter #childrens book! #tlap#langchat
Q7 A first year media specialist, while finishing a master's degree, on top of trying to create a culture of exploration in the library. I'm hoping to get some ideas and encouragement from this PLC. #masterychat
A7 Change often comes with “push back” however, a clear vision, high expectations, and being student focused will help us make a difference! #masterychat@CravenCoSchools
Q7: Do you have big changes planned for next year that require a strong will to accomplish (level of difficulty, lack of $, push-back from Ss and/or staff)? Please share them! #masterychat
A7: Besides gamifying my classes & putting Ss in charge of more things, my biggest/toughest opponent will be to move toward a more mastery based HS grading system. It will be a hybrid system of what we do & true standards based grading, but it's a start. #masterychat
A7: Finding the balance will be my own personal challenge: new town/school/grade. Have to remember to make time for myself and that I don't have to be a perfectionist. Have to make sure I take time for self-care #masterychat
A7: Completely changing my game! I have 7 Ss that I am looping, so I need it to be fresh and new for them. They will have an expanded role in the game! #masterychat
A7 I want to work with a group of Ts to create a school hashtag and a school twitter chat. I also want to do a book tasting followed by a book study! #masterychat
Q7: Do you have big changes planned for next year that require a strong will to accomplish (level of difficulty, lack of $, push-back from Ss and/or staff)? Please share them! #masterychat
A6: To help new teachers feel welcome this fall we’re creating a staff & student courtesy camp. #GrowthMindset will be embedded within the camp. Both teachers & students will participate in challenges & opportunities to share & reflect together to begin our journey! #MasteryChat
A7 A first year media specialist, while finishing a master's degree, on top of trying to create a culture of exploration in the library. I'm hoping to get some ideas and encouragement from this PLC. #masterychat
#MasteryChat A6- I think that many new staff members get disregarded just because they are new to the building - regardless of their past experience. Get to know new staff members and their experience. Make them feel like their expertise matters and that new ideas are welcome.
A7: I am starting my journey as brand new teacher which I am really excited for along with being on @PonderEducation starting in August and having an opportunity to be a voice for new teachers which is a blessing. I do not know of any big changes yet. #masterychat
Q7: Do you have big changes planned for next year that require a strong will to accomplish (level of difficulty, lack of $, push-back from Ss and/or staff)? Please share them! #masterychat

A7 I plan to move to a blended learning model in my classroom. I am not really sure of what it will look like, but I am digging into a ton of resources to figure it out. #masterychat
A7 I plan on working with AR/VR this year as well as continuing our work/collaborations with the SDG's. Some of the AR/VR is challenging but we will work through it together 😀 #MasteryChat
#masterychat A7- I want to have students create their own Smart Goals and have them track their progress towards those goals throughout the year in @seesaw. I haven't used the app much, so I am testing it out this summer. Excited about the possibilities.
A5: Again, toward the end of the year. I was doing a read-aloud and the kids were VERY WIGGLY! I put down the book, told them we'd finish it after snack, and we went outside, early, for recess. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow! And we did finish the story! #masterychat
A7. I get the honor of bringing the @thegridmethod to view at my middle school. I have a lot of preparation ahead of me before school starts to impress other T's and administration. I believe so much in the grid method and I want to spread it! #masterychat
Q7: Do you have big changes planned for next year that require a strong will to accomplish (level of difficulty, lack of $, push-back from Ss and/or staff)? Please share them! #masterychat
A7 My biggest plan is to have more community involvement with my classes. I want different community leaders and locals to be in my room and with my students all of the time. Big goal! #MasteryChat
Mine is a picture inside a folder with little 'windows' cut into the cover. They predict what the picture is from the limited view they have. #masterychat
#masterychat a4 Uh oh. Lesson went so well you have 3 minutes spare. I go speed round. Grab an easy sound or handshape and all share one answer. No repeats. Fills 3 minutes and bell will release the munchkins aka ss. Win
A7: Yes! Yes! Yes! Looking forward to the challenge, to sharing with new colleagues and to working less hours. I’m a workaholic and perhaps the part time position will balance me! #masterychat
A7 possibility of departmentalization in our grade level. This would be a massive change that I am excited about should it come to fruition. #masterychat
A:7 This year we are moving to school pft as our LMS so I am in the process of moving over a ton of material. Most importantly I am going to give my Ss more of an own day in their our math education. Moving toward standards based grading and mastery learning! #masterychat
A7: We have many teachers teaching new grade levels due to enrollment changes. We are also about to embark on a Teach Like a Pirate Book Study which will certainly disrupt the status quo! I'm ready for an adventure! #tlap#masterychat
A7: I have the opportunity of being a special education teacher in 4 content areas, across 3 grade levels in high school (on top of managing a caseload of students). I know I can handle it, but will have to work on my reluctance to ask for help when needed. #masterychat
Thanks for a SUPER reflective and fun chat tonight, everyone! Don't forget to join #masterychat again next week! Now get ready for the Facebook Live edition of #masterychat with @thegridmethod, going live at 8 PM CST / 9 EST!
A7. Ss relationship building, and focussing on them! Planning activities to build around their interests, that we can relate to problem solving and weak learning areas! #masterychat
A7: Continuing to push more toward student-driven learning models. The biggest pushback is from the Ss at the BOY until their intrinsic motivation and stamina develop, but the results and engagement later make it well worth it! #MasteryChat
That’s always nice, but new teachers never tend to take advantage of that. If you want them to feel like they aren’t alone, stop in and see them on a regular basis. Going to them helps #MasteryChat
A7 I'm moving into a new role. New to me and for our district. I'm excited to get started but know it will be a lot of work as we roll out and tweak our approaches to adequately support our educators with equitable teaching for all students #masterychat
Q7 I’m going to be at anew school so everything is going to be a challenge! I have no idea how things work there. Need to take kids on a field trip, so that’s gonna be challenging. I’d like to see if others would be game for an #observeme try or a twitter slow chat #masterychat
A7: im implementing small group rotations. My Principal is being super supportive i did a @DonorsChoose to get a table and some other items to make it run smoothly. #MasteryChat
Q7: Do you have big changes planned for next year that require a strong will to accomplish (level of difficulty, lack of $, push-back from Ss and/or staff)? Please share them! #masterychat
Hmmmm. Love that you have started all of that. Only problem I see is that my end of chat gif, minus my own additions, matches this one. Samesies! #masterychat
Q6: It always helps to ask newcomers about their path through education and what brought them to our school and staff. We play bonding games at staff meetings.#masterychat
#masterychat 7.1 Yes- flexible grading, alternative assessments, minimalist decor and more comfy, coffee house style seating- and definitely more purposeful chaos, collisions with science AND student-driven lessons
Q7: Do you have big changes planned for next year that require a strong will to accomplish (level of difficulty, lack of $, push-back from Ss and/or staff)? Please share them! #masterychat
A7: I'm pushing myself out of my little box - applying to present at some big/bigger tech conferences. Also thinking about working on a second Masters Degree. And working on my #Etsy and #TPT side hustle. #masterychat
A7 I am half way through Rae's Teach Further modules. I'm so excited to begin breaking down walls and bringing the community in and really giving my students opportunities to make connections to their learning. #masterychat
#masterychat I would love to do what I can from a non-administrative position to foster more internal PD among my colleagues. There will be resistance from some who will be negative specifically because I do not have a title. Important to offer to all, but stick to the willing.
#masterychat 7.2 - student-choice and student feedback and most importantly- students writing assessments and lessons, putting more of the empowerment- voice and yes- management in their hands.
Q7: Do you have big changes planned for next year that require a strong will to accomplish (level of difficulty, lack of $, push-back from Ss and/or staff)? Please share them! #masterychat

#masterychat I learned a TON from a now retired teacher, Ned Linquist, who was a MASTER storyteller. Now I know we live in the age of student centered/driven learning but even though Ned told the story, the kids managed to lead their learning. I model that as much as I can!
A1 I helped some colleagues with some basic tech stuff. Normally, I don't think much of it, but if it's something that I figured out on my own, I can't help but to share it with others. #masterychat
A7 My state, like many others, is adopting computer science standards so this will definitely change how we teach in elementary. It will require a lot of integration #masterychat
A7 (part 2): another huge change- introducing a PBL math class I'm designing. I'll be facing some push back from SS and coworkers, but am looking forward to it (both the class and the push back...who doesn't love a challenge?!) #masterychat
A7 I've made up my mind to see the positive in every situation whether it's dealing with Ss or Ts. I'm also slowing transitioning to flexible seating and a 1:1 classroom. #masterychat
A7 - @thegridmethod and the #teachbetter Team are bringing more awesomeness than I can explain in a tweet to everyone! So much cool stuff going on! New courses, trainings, and just MORE! #masterychat
A7 #MasteryChat I am going WAYYY outside my comfort zone and gamifying my science 10 class. Doing lots of reading and planning and going all in - whole year! So thankful I have admin and staff support 😎 @MrHebertPE#GameMyClass. I'm also going to have my second attempt at SBG!
A6: I'm going to be that new team member. Changing districts.
A welcome basket? A card signed by all staff welcoming them to the building? Help with the little thing/hidden rules of the building. #masterychat
A7.2) I am looking into setting up some after school bookclubs for 3-5th grade, maybe a Mathematics Club, and I already do Student Council. This will be differnet because never done those before & no funding...so far Our buiding is also looking at a robotics club too #MasteryChat
The change is for me for next year and I am sooo excited! Building the Title I PreK Program in 5 schools to expand in the following years. This #masterychat is just what I, my Ts, Ps, Ss need...my brain is going a mile a minute!
A7~ balancing school, home & grad work this year ❤️ need to be true to myself first & keep all of these responsibilities in check while getting the most out of life 👍 being truly present is a work in progress #masterychat
A7 A goal for next year is to get more colleagues using some of the great technology tools that we have available to us but are not being used to their fullest potential. One person at a time. We have made some great strides this year but there is work to be done. #masterychat
A7 sure/ begin my new robotics program to take over the world, build a new student environmental team, take over coding club, and transform my lab into an Immersion technology beacon that people everywhere will be dying to visit. #MasteryChat
Q7: Do you have big changes planned for next year that require a strong will to accomplish (level of difficulty, lack of $, push-back from Ss and/or staff)? Please share them! #masterychat
A7: I’m moving into a more flexible seating model, changing most of my “read to self” time to all partner reading and implementing more Responsive Classroom techniques. These will require a strong will on my part as...I’m not too worried about pushback #masterychat
Q7: Do you have big changes planned for next year that require a strong will to accomplish (level of difficulty, lack of $, push-back from Ss and/or staff)? Please share them! #masterychat
A5: My Ss gave me descriptive feedback after all my lessons this year. Some even wrote it out. They said that since I gave them feedback they wanted to give me some too. One student suggested we should co-create weekly #poetry together & we did! It was game changing! #MasteryChat
A7.3) I now what I am about to propose might go great until I ask for help. We need more staff willing to step up and run or support the events/ clubs for the kids. #MasteryChat
