Hello everyone and welcome to the #espechat! I am your guest moderator tonight. I am from Memphis, TN and I teach Prek-5th grade. Tonight, we will be discussing standards-based assessment. Who do we have with us?
A1 #espechat it definitely can be time consuming...especially if you aren't fortunate enough to see your kids a lot. . . or when events come out & you're relocated *shrug*
A2. We all should be teaching to the standards. Standards-Based Assessment allows us to check for learning or provide opportunities for students to check themselves #espechat
A2 Assessment towards your outcomes based off of the standards and GLOs. Which should correlate to your Backwards Design of your curriculum. It makes it all make sense. #espechat
A2 Assessment based on where ss lie within a success criteria on purposefully and intentionally selected grade level outcomes. It can tell ss exactly where they are and how they can move up the criteria #ESPEchat
Anecdotal notes, benchmarks I look for in any skill, and mini tests on knowledge of the skill - all contribute, it's all encompassing & not all from me #espechat
A2 A strong curriculum rooted in the standards and assessed as such is the best way to obtain valid and reliable data for student growth in PE. #espechat
A3 largely create my own and house them in Google Forms. Looking forward to some new sample assessments aligned to the new MN state standards & benchmarks in the near future. #espechat
A3. I created my own assessment. Peer assessment for skills worked best for me and was the least time consuming...not for grading but for students to work together to get better at a skill. #espechat
A3: I create my own but would always be open to see other teachers resources for them! I am a big fan of how @GlennYoung_PE deals with assessing and providing intervention with FMS #espechat
A3. Also designed some pre and post test for me to check students but was hard and time consuming, I used my parparo to help and worked in stations #espechat
A3 most of the premade assessments need lots of tweaking. Love seeing what others have to share. Helps when making my own. Need to create a better system of tracking. Paper pencil not cutting it these days😳 #espechat

A3 It depends what the assessment is on, sometimes you’re in a situation where you have to recreate or create the wheel. I’ve also used pre-made ones as well as slightly edited pre-made ones #ESPEchat
I did one sheet protector/dry erase marker assessment and the Ss took pics of it. That was my last time. It took too long for me to track the data. Now I just use google forms and plagnets for 3-5 #espechat
A4 I have had conversations with my admin team about assessment data, but not consistently, and not with classroom teachers. Feel like I should be, haven't thought to before! #espechat
A4 I shared data with a few parents at conferences who had questions. Which was nice to relay strengths and concerns of children on actual data! Hopefully stepping into the direction of sharing with admin...once I get my ducks in a row of course. #espechat
A4 no one really asks for mine. Kinder teachers assess Ss on skipping, sliding, and running and until this year no one ever asked me. I have been teacher there for 13 years now! #espechat
Here's a sample first grade assessment that I use. Simple standard checklist in Google Forms...all results go into a google sheet automatically. https://t.co/ZMlGpI0cpL#espechat
A5: I give written mini tests during Station Days for whatever skill we have been focusing on; Use Plagnets for quick assessment; otherwise would love to incorporate iPads #espechat
A5 #espechat we were working on having iPads for the specials area teachers, but have not made it there yet....written, observation with a post-it note. Students self assess themselves at the end of class as well
A5 Plagnets for Cognitive, Google Forms (Teacher Observation Checklists) for Psychomotor, and every now and then I'll toss in a #flipgrid Reflection for Affective. I want to start doing more Peer Assessments though. I feel like peer feedback is the best type. #espechat
A4 I share data with ss and parents, classroom teachers & admin will get my data in situations such as IEP meetings, 504 meetings, etc. I love your idea about posting, that’s pretty neat, even as a period to period visual kind of thing 👌🏼#ESPEchat

A5 All my Ss are 1:1 Chromebooks and kinders all have IPads. I think if I knew what I was doing I could create assessments that they could do on their device. I just need to tell the Ts to have them bring them to PE. #espechat
A5 My experimentation at the ms level has been with magnets & @plickers. Way too many ss for papers and not enough portable tech to go full on tech. Want to add some more pages in our PE Handbook and start having a few lab days where ss can use chrome books/laptops #ESPEchat
A6 I think it all starts with the Yearly Plan. Look at the skills I want to Ss to learn, create lessons that will help do that, and then use assessments that will show their progress to the goal. I love the Backwards Design approach. #espechat
A6 It all goes back to our essential skills/standards we want to focus on during the year. We don’t have time to cover it all so we refer back to what we think is important (which can slightly vary from year, depending on what we see is the need) #ESPEchat
A6 I try to assess all the Ss by end of year. Hard part is I loop my curriculum and revisit more than once per year (usually 3/4 times per year) in order to provide maximum time for Ss to practice #espechat
A6 Grade level impacts my decision making quite a bit. Focus more on skill development (standard 1) with the younger kiddos. As they get older, can dive a little deeper into standards 2, 3 & 5, 4 is always a focus. #espechat
We use Aeries Parent Portal, we just share their individual student’s data. Aeries also has a feature called Communications where parents can receive text msgs w photo if they op for that option. It gets tricky since we don’t know if they picked text, voicemail or email #ESPEchat
A7 we have one section of the report card for conduct and behavior separate from the Standards based section. Standards section: Meets Standard, In Progress, Not Met #espechat
A8 I use 10 iPads and google docs to assess between 40-50 Ss. It takes me them about 5 mins for all Ss to do a peer assessments. I use the same format for every unit #espechat
A7 Letter grades currently, which IMO in Elementary (let alone Elementary P.E.) it doesn't make much sense. Although I'm opptomistic that will change soon. #espechat
a8 I use plickers/ plagnets as a daily attendance and check to see if Ss are having a good day as they enter. And use pete's pe checklist as they leave as an exit ticket. #espechat
Thanks for joining #espechat! Feel free to continue answering questions and continuing the discussion as you'd like. It's been a pleasure to be with you tonight!
