  • CapnPetesPE Nov 13 @ 8:15 PM EST
A2. We all should be teaching to the standards. Standards-Based Assessment allows us to check for learning or provide opportunities for students to check themselves #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:16 PM EST
    YES!!!! #ESPECHAT

A2 Assessment towards your outcomes based off of the standards and GLOs. Which should correlate to your Backwards Design of your curriculum. It makes it all make sense. #espechat
  • smsandino Nov 13 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2 Assessment based on where ss lie within a success criteria on purposefully and intentionally selected grade level outcomes. It can tell ss exactly where they are and how they can move up the criteria #ESPEchat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:18 PM EST

Q3 Do you create your own standards-based assessments, or do you use pre-made assessments? #espechat
  • PEbyMrE Nov 13 @ 8:19 PM EST
Anecdotal notes, benchmarks I look for in any skill, and mini tests on knowledge of the skill - all contribute, it's all encompassing & not all from me #espechat
    In reply to @jlender21
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:19 PM EST
A3 I create my own most of the time #ESPECHAT
  • PEbyMrE Nov 13 @ 8:20 PM EST
Google Sheets works well. Always can improve them for how I've used them #espechat
    In reply to @holben_pe, @CoachWilliamsPE
  • dzachary21 Nov 13 @ 8:20 PM EST
    A3 I create mine as well @CoachWilliamsPE #espechat
  • MrLyngenPE Nov 13 @ 8:20 PM EST
A2 A strong curriculum rooted in the standards and assessed as such is the best way to obtain valid and reliable data for student growth in PE. #espechat
  • MrPicha_PE Nov 13 @ 8:20 PM EST
A3 largely create my own and house them in Google Forms. Looking forward to some new sample assessments aligned to the new MN state standards & benchmarks in the near future. #espechat
  • LovePrimaryPE Nov 13 @ 8:21 PM EST
A3 I have done a combination of DIY and some premise. Many times the premise ones have to be adapted to meet my situation. #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:21 PM EST
Yes!!! I use google sheets for grades 3-5 #ESPECHAT
    In reply to @PEbyMrE, @holben_pe
  • framed01 Nov 13 @ 8:21 PM EST
A3 I tend to make my own and as of last week have begun to ask my older students what success criteria might look like. Work in progress #espechat
  • CapnPetesPE Nov 13 @ 8:21 PM EST
A3. I created my own assessment. Peer assessment for skills worked best for me and was the least time consuming...not for grading but for students to work together to get better at a skill. #espechat
  • SaraWoodPE Nov 13 @ 8:21 PM EST
Ask about the assessments other Ts in your building are giving. They are most definitely standards based and ours should be too. #espechat
    In reply to @holben_pe, @CapnPetesPE
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:22 PM EST
Q3 Part B If you use premade assessments, where do you get them? #espechat
  • PEbyMrE Nov 13 @ 8:22 PM EST
A mix - the mini tests I create - everything else I have borrowed from someone else or tinkered with #espechat
    In reply to @jlender21
  • MrLyngenPE Nov 13 @ 8:22 PM EST
A3 Use my own typically. #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:22 PM EST
I love that you are getting your students input #ESPECHAT
    In reply to @framed01
  • EPEWCP Nov 13 @ 8:22 PM EST
A3: I create my own that allows me to specifically assess what I am looking for. I often tweak what others have done. #espechat
  • holben_pe Nov 13 @ 8:22 PM EST
A3 I create my own so they are specific to my students needs or environment. #espechat
  • dzachary21 Nov 13 @ 8:23 PM EST
a3b @CapnPetesPE has some pretty awesome ones #espechat
  • MrBiehlsPE Nov 13 @ 8:23 PM EST
A3 I create most of my own for Skill Assessments. Google Sheets has been come in clutch. Definitely base a lot of my @plickers and Cognitive assessments off of stuff from the greats (@physedreview @PhysEdDepot @pe4everykid )though. #whyreinventthewheel #espechat
  • smartintahoe Nov 13 @ 8:23 PM EST
A3: I create my own but would always be open to see other teachers resources for them! I am a big fan of how @GlennYoung_PE deals with assessing and providing intervention with FMS #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:23 PM EST
Yes and they are kid friendly #ESPECHAT
    In reply to @dzachary21, @CapnPetesPE
  • PEbyMrE Nov 13 @ 8:23 PM EST
A3: I like to create my own because I can make it what I want for my own Ss learning at their own level #espechat
  • CapnPetesPE Nov 13 @ 8:24 PM EST
A3. Also designed some pre and post test for me to check students but was hard and time consuming, I used my parparo to help and worked in stations #espechat
  • LovePrimaryPE Nov 13 @ 8:24 PM EST
A3 most of the premade assessments need lots of tweaking. Love seeing what others have to share. Helps when making my own. Need to create a better system of tracking. Paper pencil not cutting it these days😳 #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:24 PM EST
    These are awesome #ESPECHAT
    • CapnPetesPE Nov 13 @ 8:24 PM EST
A3. Also designed some pre and post test for me to check students but was hard and time consuming, I used my parparo to help and worked in stations #espechat
  • smsandino Nov 13 @ 8:25 PM EST
A3 It depends what the assessment is on, sometimes you’re in a situation where you have to recreate or create the wheel. I’ve also used pre-made ones as well as slightly edited pre-made ones #ESPEchat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:26 PM EST
Q4 Do you share your assessment data with classroom teachers, admin, etc? If yes, how/where? #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:26 PM EST
I did one sheet protector/dry erase marker assessment and the Ss took pics of it. That was my last time. It took too long for me to track the data. Now I just use google forms and plagnets for 3-5 #espechat
    In reply to @LovePrimaryPE
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:27 PM EST
A4 This yr I have been posting my data on a poster on the outside of my gym #ESPECHAT
  • EPEWCP Nov 13 @ 8:27 PM EST
A4: When I use @getRocketbook it is really easy to share w other teachers #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:28 PM EST
    A4 #espechat
  • MrLyngenPE Nov 13 @ 8:28 PM EST
A4 I have had conversations with my admin team about assessment data, but not consistently, and not with classroom teachers. Feel like I should be, haven't thought to before! #espechat
  • PEbyMrE Nov 13 @ 8:28 PM EST
A4: Not as of yet, really only through report cards - unless it has to do with behaviour #espechat
  • smsandino Nov 13 @ 8:28 PM EST
A3b @iPhys_Ed always has some solid reads and resources 👌🏼💯 #ESPEchat
  • LovePrimaryPE Nov 13 @ 8:29 PM EST
A4 sadly they never ask. I add mine to my TKES (for ME)! #espechat
  • MsPhysEduDP Nov 13 @ 8:29 PM EST
    A4 #espechat No.....🤦🏽‍♀️
  • perockzz Nov 13 @ 8:29 PM EST
Me too. Sometimes I create my own assessments and sometimes I am use assessments from others #espechat
    In reply to @smsandino
  • MrBiehlsPE Nov 13 @ 8:29 PM EST
A4 I shared data with a few parents at conferences who had questions. Which was nice to relay strengths and concerns of children on actual data! Hopefully stepping into the direction of sharing with admin...once I get my ducks in a row of course. #espechat
  • framed01 Nov 13 @ 8:29 PM EST
A4 I do not share assessment with anyone but the ss. #espechat
  • dzachary21 Nov 13 @ 8:30 PM EST
a4 I share my rti data with them or if something relates direstly with their class. #espechat
  • CapnPetesPE Nov 13 @ 8:30 PM EST
A4. I shared assessment protocol on website but not data. I thought that was too sensitive for others to see. #espechat
  • jazzijeph Nov 13 @ 8:31 PM EST
A4 time is the issue for me I see 2-3 classes so its super hard #espechat
  • EPEWCP Nov 13 @ 8:31 PM EST
I am the same. Not happy with it though. #ESPEchat
    In reply to @PEbyMrE
  • holben_pe Nov 13 @ 8:32 PM EST
A4 no one really asks for mine. Kinder teachers assess Ss on skipping, sliding, and running and until this year no one ever asked me. I have been teacher there for 13 years now! #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:33 PM EST
Q5 How do you give your students assessments? (written, iPad, etc) #espechat
  • EPEWCP Nov 13 @ 8:33 PM EST
@getRocketbook allows me to scan in assessments and have it sent directly to me and classroom teacher. #espechat fantastic find I got from @smsandino
    In reply to @CoachWilliamsPE, @getRocketbook, @getRocketbook, @smsandino
  • MrPicha_PE Nov 13 @ 8:33 PM EST
Here's a sample first grade assessment that I use. Simple standard checklist in Google Forms...all results go into a google sheet automatically. https://t.co/ZMlGpI0cpL #espechat

    A5 Plickers/Plagnet questions for 2nd. #espechat
  • EPEWCP Nov 13 @ 8:34 PM EST
A5: sometimes written. more often me watching a task and documenting. #ESPEchat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:34 PM EST
A5 K-2 I assess on my own iPad using @ClassDojo and 3-5 I use 10 iPads and they do self/peer assessments. Also I use plagnets #espechat
    In reply to @ClassDojo
  • PEbyMrE Nov 13 @ 8:34 PM EST
A5: I give written mini tests during Station Days for whatever skill we have been focusing on; Use Plagnets for quick assessment; otherwise would love to incorporate iPads #espechat
  • smsandino Nov 13 @ 8:35 PM EST
It’s solid, love that thing!! Absolutely genius 🚀💡🤯 #ESPEchat
    In reply to @EPEWCP, @CoachWilliamsPE, @getRocketbook

A5. For me...written (with pics) for students to see or checklists for me #espechat
  • MrPicha_PE Nov 13 @ 8:35 PM EST
A5 Most student centered assessments are through Plickers or informal methods such as a walk & talk. #espechat
  • dzachary21 Nov 13 @ 8:35 PM EST
a5 I use #plickers, google forms, and peer assessments. #espechat
  • MrLyngenPE Nov 13 @ 8:35 PM EST
A5 I use Google Forms on the iPad. Shout out to @MrPicha_PE for that, he helped me get set up! #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:36 PM EST
Q5 Part B If you said iPads/tablets, what apps do you use? #espechat
  • MsPhysEduDP Nov 13 @ 8:36 PM EST
A5 #espechat we were working on having iPads for the specials area teachers, but have not made it there yet....written, observation with a post-it note. Students self assess themselves at the end of class as well
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:36 PM EST
Cool I might try it out #espechat
    In reply to @smsandino, @EPEWCP, @getRocketbook
  • MrBiehlsPE Nov 13 @ 8:37 PM EST
A5 Plagnets for Cognitive, Google Forms (Teacher Observation Checklists) for Psychomotor, and every now and then I'll toss in a #flipgrid Reflection for Affective. I want to start doing more Peer Assessments though. I feel like peer feedback is the best type. #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:38 PM EST
    A5 Part B I have also used seesaw #ESPECHAT
  • MsPhysEduDP Nov 13 @ 8:38 PM EST
#espechat sidenote: every time I write or type out "assess" I have to look at it 3-4 times to make sure I am spelling it correctly! #PE
  • MrLyngenPE Nov 13 @ 8:38 PM EST
A5 I have also used Plickers cards for an efficient way to gather cognitive data #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:39 PM EST
    I want to add #flipgrid #espechat
    In reply to @MrBiehlsPE
  • smsandino Nov 13 @ 8:39 PM EST
A4 I share data with ss and parents, classroom teachers & admin will get my data in situations such as IEP meetings, 504 meetings, etc. I love your idea about posting, that’s pretty neat, even as a period to period visual kind of thing 👌🏼#ESPEchat
  • holben_pe Nov 13 @ 8:39 PM EST
A5 most observe and record on google sheets, 3-6grades use plickers and use classdojo for behavior and classroom procedures #espechat
  • framed01 Nov 13 @ 8:39 PM EST
    Well said! #espechat
#espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:40 PM EST
Q6 How do you decide which standards you will assess? #espechat
  • MsPhysEduDP Nov 13 @ 8:40 PM EST
    #espechat I want to add well try #flipgrid and/or #seesaw
  • PEbyMrE Nov 13 @ 8:42 PM EST
A6: All depends on which skills are in my year plan - make sure to get through all throughout the year 2-3 times #espechat
  • LovePrimaryPE Nov 13 @ 8:43 PM EST
A5 All my Ss are 1:1 Chromebooks and kinders all have IPads. I think if I knew what I was doing I could create assessments that they could do on their device. I just need to tell the Ts to have them bring them to PE. #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:44 PM EST
A6 We choose our lessons based on our pacing guide and we assess every week on the standard we are hitting in that lesson #ESPECHAT
  • EPEWCP Nov 13 @ 8:44 PM EST
A6: I assess whatever standard we are working on. #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:44 PM EST
What are your Kg doing their iPads in the classroom? #espechat
    In reply to @LovePrimaryPE
  • smsandino Nov 13 @ 8:45 PM EST
A5 My experimentation at the ms level has been with magnets & @plickers. Way too many ss for papers and not enough portable tech to go full on tech. Want to add some more pages in our PE Handbook and start having a few lab days where ss can use chrome books/laptops #ESPEchat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:46 PM EST
Q7 What type of grading scale do you use for your assessments? (Ex: Levels, Letter Grades, Numerical Grades, etc) #espechat
  • MrPicha_PE Nov 13 @ 8:46 PM EST
A6 depends on grade level. K-2 much more benchmarks within standard 1. 3-5 can dive more into standards 2-3 for assessment purposes. #espechat
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:46 PM EST
    A7 I do yes/no Level 1-3 or rookie, pro, all star #ESPECHAT
  • MrBiehlsPE Nov 13 @ 8:48 PM EST
A6 I think it all starts with the Yearly Plan. Look at the skills I want to Ss to learn, create lessons that will help do that, and then use assessments that will show their progress to the goal. I love the Backwards Design approach. #espechat
  • MrPicha_PE Nov 13 @ 8:48 PM EST
A7 4-level rubric for most assessments. “Exceeds, Meets, Approaching, Doesn’t Meet”. Student friendly: “Wow! Got it! Almost there! Not yet!” #espechat
  • MsPhysEduDP Nov 13 @ 8:49 PM EST
A7 #espechat for my personal records, 3,2,1 (advanced, proficient, limited) based on our state standards Ss Coach it! Got it! Almost there! Not yet!
  • smsandino Nov 13 @ 8:49 PM EST
A6 It all goes back to our essential skills/standards we want to focus on during the year. We don’t have time to cover it all so we refer back to what we think is important (which can slightly vary from year, depending on what we see is the need) #ESPEchat
  • PEbyMrE Nov 13 @ 8:49 PM EST
A7: I have to use 1-4 (1 introductory skills, 4 being a master) to use for report cards so I try to keep all assessments in line with that #espechat
  • PEbyMrE Nov 13 @ 8:49 PM EST
I do, I can send it to you tomorrow when I get to work! #espechat
    In reply to @jlender21
  • dzachary21 Nov 13 @ 8:49 PM EST
a7 we cant do grades but I like to use my data to monitor student development and adjust my teaching strategies. #espechat
  • CapnPetesPE Nov 13 @ 8:49 PM EST
A7. Here is one scale I used a couple years back- Olympic theme #espechat
  • holben_pe Nov 13 @ 8:49 PM EST
A6 this year doing a spiraling curriculum so assess skills 2x to see improvement. #espechat
  • MrPicha_PE Nov 13 @ 8:50 PM EST
Do not recall the source for the student friendly terminology...not my original idea. #espechat
    In reply to @CoachWilliamsPE
  • CoachWilliamsPE Nov 13 @ 8:50 PM EST
    This is awesome #ESPECHAT
  • LovePrimaryPE Nov 13 @ 8:50 PM EST
A6 I try to assess all the Ss by end of year. Hard part is I loop my curriculum and revisit more than once per year (usually 3/4 times per year) in order to provide maximum time for Ss to practice #espechat
  • PEbyMrE Nov 13 @ 8:51 PM EST
Really like this scale Pete. It can give Ss the incentive to get from just a "participant" to doing their best very quickly #espechat
    In reply to @CapnPetesPE
  • framed01 Nov 13 @ 8:51 PM EST
A6 It depends on the grade and where we are in the learning process. #espechat

A6 Grade level impacts my decision making quite a bit. Focus more on skill development (standard 1) with the younger kiddos. As they get older, can dive a little deeper into standards 2, 3 & 5, 4 is always a focus. #espechat

We use Aeries Parent Portal, we just share their individual student’s data. Aeries also has a feature called Communications where parents can receive text msgs w photo if they op for that option. It gets tricky since we don’t know if they picked text, voicemail or email #ESPEchat

A7 we have one section of the report card for conduct and behavior separate from the Standards based section. Standards section: Meets Standard, In Progress, Not Met #espechat

A8 I use 10 iPads and google docs to assess between 40-50 Ss. It takes me them about 5 mins for all Ss to do a peer assessments. I use the same format for every unit #espechat

A7 Letter grades currently, which IMO in Elementary (let alone Elementary P.E.) it doesn't make much sense. Although I'm opptomistic that will change soon. #espechat

a8 I use plickers/ plagnets as a daily attendance and check to see if Ss are having a good day as they enter. And use pete's pe checklist as they leave as an exit ticket. #espechat
