Good morning, friends and happy Wednesday!

School culture is tricky. There are so many facets. change NEEDS to come from the top.
I think today's question is hard on the T level..do you?
Celebrate. Collaborate. Celebrate some more. Repeat.
My pointing out the good things.... Authentically. Fake won't work.
I appreciate It is a community
Dear :
Please send me some of your sicilian breakfast casserole NOW!!
Building a sense of community...honour and recognize the variety of gifts, respect all voices, collaborate, remember to have fun.
A selfie stick at faculty meetings. good morning!! https://t.co/zLf7xw8OOK
Hi Manny! Today's Q is: How do you build a sense of community amongst your staff?
JN from the warmth of Gulf. Way past breakfast but will still chime in. :D
Errr....The closest Starbucks is ~25miles away.
:-(
Sense of community can be enabled by time to meet and collaborate. And eat lunch.
Starts with shared leadership & shared vision of excellence. Anyone heard of the Netflix model? https://t.co/BY7WGNoeC8
You're in the right place for some inspiration this morning, Kathy! :)
it can be lacking in smaller buildings too
Good morning - happy Wednesday! Moving extra slow after last night's Common Sense Media Awards
Good morning - happy Wednesday! Moving extra slow after last night's Common Sense Media Awards
Hi stranger !! Modeling, continue the positivity. started a staff book chat on tweeter it all helps https://t.co/j3GzKJonx0
Good morning --Great question today! I need suggestions. Community is so important, and so lacking in the huge building I work in
As a pre-t I don't have any experience in this area so I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone's ideas are!
Good morning Im Mike from Rochester NY area
My 1st thought is appreciation. Show teachers that you value them and their expertise. Culture should change.
May the 4th be with you all! Michelle checking in from ON. Gr 1-2.
The end is near - can I get an Amen!
You should have me come hang at your school - I'm great in this arena!!!
Some of our staff enjoy walking together. Build community through walking and talking.
Giving people time to talk and share and reflect. So often teachers are scheduled to death.
We talk about being a family & then we try & treat each other as family. There r ups & downs, like any fam but we get through it
Yes. I'm with you. Except every is a responsible. We band together in crisis. What abt day to day?
I teach the Ts 2x a week in the am, so I start my community there. Unfortunately I hate the Ts room (too much whining)
GM. Laurel. Bermuda. 1st time to . 😊
Morning! My "breakfast" comes much later in the day...it's all relative, right? :)
I think it starts at the top. In my classroom, it is my responsibility to build it.
Give staff opportunities to collaborate in groups that wouldn't normally form during the day. Edcamp & are two good forums.
Great example of community building, but if your school doesn't have active PTO? Who's job is comm build? https://t.co/9m7xGwDB8o
Building a sense of community isn't hard to do. It requires mindfulness, awareness of the other, slowing down the "big machine"
Offer opportunities for team building activities that help colleagues to work together
Building a sense of community has many pieces. Support, sharing visions, celebrating together, problem-solving, shares goals, care.
good morning Melissa! Don't blink!
We have a sunshine committee who helps to celebrate all of our birthdays and other times just because!
I've got an interview today and need to be energized. I'll have one for you!
Establishing trust among the staff-we have been using the Tribes agreements to help us accomplish this first goal
I agree. Celebrate each other
Love that idea Angela! And everyone could were their school pride T's/Sweatshirts!
Sense of community best when newcomers are welcomed and supported in a meaningful way.
Truth! https://t.co/W6tGkMo9kv
Giving people time to talk and share and reflect. So often teachers are scheduled to death.
"Respect all voices."
Beautiful, Chris. This is so important!
https://t.co/8jkJEDAFa8
Building a sense of community...honour and recognize the variety of gifts, respect all voices, collaborate, remember to have fun.
I agree. But I don't think it should be. Why do we still expect ldrshp to be the ones to take point on this?
Absolutely!!!
Together We're Better!
Sometimes, it's simple as speaking and asking hey, what can I help with https://t.co/0pcT4GaX6m
Building a sense of community isn't hard to do. It requires mindfulness, awareness of the other, slowing down the "big machine"
You have to make time for each other. We meet at least twice a week to not only collaborate but encourage each other.
Celebrate the rock starts -- and those Ts just learning and taking chances as well!
One of the best community builders in my PLN: The Greg! He has rituals in his school to make Ts feel appreciated each day
I agree. Yes, it is up to staff but when a wrong needs to be right esp. in this area it does need to be direct from admin
I believe that giving teachers as much choice as possible helps.
Was this something you attended? Or viewed on screen? who won? https://t.co/uXY68l1zce
Good morning - happy Wednesday! Moving extra slow after last night's Common Sense Media Awards
Good morning Rosy! How are you on this fine Wednesday?
Building a sense of community...better together...support, care, celebrate...JUST LIKE OUR PLN!
I think all the darkness of the dreary rainy days has something to do with it.
Lot of these words, in my experience, are just on paper. Fragments end up creating divides anyway.
Potential ways to build a sense of community among staff would be to celebrate interdependence. Emphasize teamwork as much as 1 TOY.
Sometimes this ebbs and flows in a building. Stay positive, share, reach out, support a charity event as a team, like a run/walk..
Build community by being on the same side ... put away the egos ... we're here for the kids NOT personal glory.
By realizing that different people have different ways to show they are part of the community. Some vocal, some quiet.
I tend to feed them-food and then passion. Recess is often like a mini PLC at our school!
morning so sorry we missed you on Saturday !! hope all is well
We try & do as many things as possible as a staff. Tons of celebrations & recognitions. But it does come back to being family 4 us
Creating a community of lifelong learners, providing scaffolding so they can achieve their dreams and goals
Last several years, everyone is just so busy. There has been so much to do in the classroom. Too much change
Hi Glenys here from New Zealand. I think that it is important to be strengths focussed with colleagues in order to build community
Answer Part 1: Could building community at school be as simple as following the Golden rule?
Sense of community is helped by equitable distribution of resources across departments and programs.
Did admin support, promote, or ask for another book chat? I did 2 last year, and just a handful joined.
We build a strong sense of community when everyone is a stakeholder, everyone matters, everyone is part of the process.
This happened yesterday across our district, solidarity and commUNITY showed up and walked in. it CAN happen https://t.co/yUvq1esAVP
I think if there is a sense of urgency around needed changes, teachers can make it too...
One ritual we have in my department is to start each meeting sharing what we're reading. One T gives a book talk. It's so helpful.
It starts w an invitation: to collaborate, to plan, to ask questions, to eat lunch together (outside of the classroom), to be heard
I think even if you don't like the person a level of professionalism and inclusion still has to exist
You build a sense of community showing you care, guiding, helping improve weaknesses, maintaining strengths, giving time to reflect
Sometimes we spend so much time with our team/dept that we don't get to know/work w others in bldg. GIve opps to work w them.
Some of the best Ts I have known never speak up. https://t.co/6PvmRytxGT
By realizing that different people have different ways to show they are part of the community. Some vocal, some quiet.
Answer 2 I'm not sure as there are some difficult teachers that I've worked w/ over the year that make building community difficult
. https://t.co/FgAuLZdIgJ
One of the best community builders in my PLN: The Greg! He has rituals in his school to make Ts feel appreciated each day
Our school community involves our students and our parents. It's our relationships we build with them.
Attended (and way past my bedtime) - held in NY this year. Got to hear some great presentations
We would say the same to our classroom community! Everybody's job! https://t.co/raayvzHPVU
I agree. But I don't think it should be. Why do we still expect ldrshp to be the ones to take point on this?
Good point...but it's easier for me to stay positive if I blame the culture on the size and not the people I work with!
Yes! Really can't say it much better than this. https://t.co/unrmNyZogJ
Celebrate. Collaborate. Celebrate some more. Repeat.
I made a push to share "celebrations" at faculty meetings. Sunshine committee announces both personal & professional celebrations
Wishing my & teacher friends a very happy Wednesday! Let's keep the good energy going today! https://t.co/AIJs2CpLPI
They need to be practiced norms; not just a writing prompt. All in the building need to practice and contribute.
yes some admin are part of it. we are on # 2 and may have one over the summer.
Sometimes just a greeting in the hallway & a "Hey how r u doing?" goes a long way too!
Flattening the playing field helps, too. Everyone is really the team. Not - you all are the team and I'm the boss.
it's nice I'm up for ! 2 mornings in a row!
When they do choose to speak, people listen. https://t.co/3b3jJZkZr9
Some of the best Ts I have known never speak up. https://t.co/6PvmRytxGT
By realizing that different people have different ways to show they are part of the community. Some vocal, some quiet.
Agree, no one should ever feel excluded. Makes them feel negative & that spreads like a virus
"Simple" can be empowering! 😊
Careful - if you drink too much you might get jittery!
Wishing you a most excellent interview!
oh, yes - just work. That does sometimes get in the way of fun. Missed you all, too!
Just as every T is called to see all the possibilities in Ss, so too w/ colleagues!
I'm sad the end is coming. I want more time.
Absolutely. My job to make sure my classroom in a community. It doesn't just happen
While so important 2focus on creating a team, equally important is 2provide opportunity https://t.co/jU6lmOzTz0 freedom to be them
We hope to use agreements to help establish these community norms beyond the classrooms to be reinforced at home
Morning . Debby from NY joining a bit late.
Answer Part 3 But if I've learned one thing - even when advocating for kids/things you love - U have to treat people with kindness
I totally agree Veronica! I'm in need of some sunshine!
Good Morning! ....supportive of all voices - shared decisions - celebrate successes - focus is on progress https://t.co/HrhOPhPt35
Today's : How do you build a sense of community amongst your staff? -
welcome! We are a friendly and passionate bunch!
it's def a niche group, but staying the course and evaluating how to expand. Staying positive.
The Ss play a notable role in community building. Right now my seniors are writing gratitude letters to Ts who've made a difference
I'm with you. I have too much left I need to get done and for the Ss to experience.
Summer is a great time to do a Voxer book chat, keep connected and learning, but low key!
Just as we do with our students, providing clear, realistic and transparent expectations so they can know what to expect.
Encouraging new teachers instead of making them feel as if their ideas aren't good enough is vital. I'm currently have that prob
yes got it, and it was Fun Work !! https://t.co/W6MEiPZUJu
oh, yes - just work. That does sometimes get in the way of fun. Missed you all, too!
agree. Personality or preferences shouldn't undermine professionalism.
Yep. But depends on size of community too. I live in one so I know. :) 300+ teachers. Gets tricky.
Good morning, ! Chantell, Tech Director from IN joining late but happy to be here!
We will be wearing blue and gathering today. GL with your cause!
Sometimes simple like saying Good morning! How are you? & really listening to the response plants the seed of
LOVE the positive attitude! Your kids are blessed to have you!
This issue is why i've always hated the metaphor of school = workplace. I like the idea of school = city.
Inclusivity can make such a difference!
Having an open door, a smile, and a positive attitude can do wonders for relationship building.
bottom line: we're all here for our kids. We're in it together.
Build a sense of community among staff by having inclusion activities & rel’ship building at every meeting! Shoutout to
Time flies when you are having fun, right?!
Kill them with kindness... is how it goes, right? https://t.co/EHzilaZ6h9
Answer Part 3 But if I've learned one thing - even when advocating for kids/things you love - U have to treat people with kindness
Enjoy each moment of today !
Between you guys and the edcamp community ive got an amazing community.
I 💜 my science dept! We have a 🔥group chat to coordinate ideas & outfits & we all work together for our Ss! https://t.co/mR7z1huRnd
Maybe a shadowing day? I would love to hang for a day w/ any of you in your schools!!
So much learning would happen!
Happy to be part of TCFL, where there is for sure a sense of community, everyone learn from each other, thanks
What books have you done? We did and --so, really helpful; non-tech is best though, ideas?
Yes! https://t.co/Fx3RC1lFaZ
Sometimes simple like saying Good morning! How are you? & really listening to the response plants the seed of
Build a sense of community within your class & show students how that community is connected to the world
No one can do what we do effectively or be at their personal best in isolation
That's true. Or, they will share in a personal conversation but not in front of the whole group. Too shy!
Actively and daily creating true and authentic relationships. Actively listening to their words.
absolutely, it's still all about educating & caring for our Ss https://t.co/bYObqIltm2
I think even if you don't like the person a level of professionalism and inclusion still has to exist
Thanks, my kids are all adults, but I love their kids too!
Can't build relationships without putting in time together, same as with Ss. Invest a few min each day talking w/colleagues!
hmmmm shadowing. I like that idea a lot.
I'm home, gearing up for the day after 4hr 47min of sleep (tech is sometimes too precise)
And there are always some who don't want to play nice.
leadership puts us all on the same page, coming together making decisions based on what is best for Ss... FAMILY.
we did 1st. Now doing Now You See It by - should be required reading for Ts. Amazing!
We're not teaching to compete for who has the coolest ideas/best scores. We need to cont. learning to be the best for our Ss
Seriously need a box of tissues to read them! And they give such insights into so many Ts I don't know in my own building!
A T lead sunshine committee is the way to go for me. But leadership also has to be family/community focused. Not bully mode
We need to bring this together. ?
Positively reminding them of your school's mission -why we are here. Simply put, doing what's best for the child.
Frequent opps to pull them together w real conversation. Most staff have community w others on the same hall https://t.co/RpV8QrkaPa
Today's : How do you build a sense of community amongst your staff? -
yes, talk about modeling behavior! And just like our Ss are different so are Ts. Different 🚫bad
I remind myself that the simple gesture of saying THANK YOU can help to build community. SINCERE THANKS to all of my friends!
You bet. 👍 Folks who trumpet your existence when they need you and make you feel invisible when they r done.
They can also write to a parent, a coach, a mentor. So, yeah, pass the tissues!
Like to know more about this metaphor. Could explain importance to my disconnected Ss who don't understand "school" value
build a sense of community be simply being friendly and asking about each others days
Smiling, saying hello, using people's names. Chatting w/ ALL staff. Remembering to listen to & celebrate your peers.
No, thank you Chris! https://t.co/laQ7XtPOVF
I remind myself that the simple gesture of saying THANK YOU can help to build community. SINCERE THANKS to all of my friends!
Any of u r always welcome to Tomahawk Creek! I love sharing the great things r Ts r doing! https://t.co/hxNdZSpix8
Maybe a shadowing day? I would love to hang for a day w/ any of you in your schools!!
So much learning would happen!
Tes! active listening is key. Focus on what is being said instead of the million other things we have to do https://t.co/Gy9zTn0aet
Actively and daily creating true and authentic relationships. Actively listening to their words.
or a basic level of humanity
Key is you can't fake a culture of community. To be authentic it has to be based on shared vision & trust. https://t.co/BbcpPDPnRi
not everybody values their job in the way we want students to value school.
Letting them know you care about them. Truly care about them. Going beyond work requirements.
For some - yes! Others may call this "Forced Fun". I think forced can be as harmful as negative.
We all have something to learn from each other! With that mindset, community building amongst staff should be embraced.
ok folks. gotta run early today. be well.
We do too! It strengthens our relationships to each other and gives clarity of purpose, "the big so what."
We have 4 middle school teachers. We dress in themes every week (plaid, pink on mean girl Weds), and go out to eat together often.
Everyone needs to buy into though. Even though you can start with a few, it needs to take root with the majority.
And like any like community, allow space for positive sub groups to form. When you honor diverse interests you build community
We are lucky to work with the most incredible group of teachers! Thankful everyday!!
you too! Have a great day.
This year has really flown! I still have 7 weeks, but yikes!
it all comes down to our Ss. And in reality, exclude a T and you're excluding her class too; her Ss. Not fair.
a problem solver, encouraging others, supporting, sharing practices, challenging yourself...U do all that! https://t.co/Q06vUqGP1a
I think today's question is hard on the T level..do you?
I really think when we "close our doors and teach" we lose this battle. https://t.co/G7qqdgk97u
No one can do what we do effectively or be at their personal best in isolation
I think this is such an awesome idea. It's authentic writing that I'm sure Ss enjoy!
Wonder if that is part of the problem, in problem schools? https://t.co/Gw6P7COgZD
not everybody values their job in the way we want students to value school.
I whole heartedly agree with the ideas here! I do find food always adds another element to community.
Have a fabulous Wednesday everyone
yes TLAP to start , I had to miss # 2 is leading ow you see it
We have some very talented bakers on staff! https://t.co/jdWqrMQqtd
I whole heartedly agree with the ideas here! I do find food always adds another element to community.
Ss should not be paying consequences of poor adult behaviors. Esp. at schools
Good point. Hadn't thought of it that way :)
Have a great Wednesday friends! May the 4th be with you
As staff/circumstances change, culture of building/district does. Pay attention+work for positive growth! https://t.co/hTQpenjwd9
Sometimes this ebbs and flows in a building. Stay positive, share, reach out, support a charity event as a team, like a run/walk..
Thanks for all the great ideas! This was an inspiring chat. Happy Wednesday!
I sure know I do! Let's me know I'm always welcome and that my opinions are valued.
It can change the world. Just sayin'! Also, putting what you're reading on your e-mail sig. Starts great convos w/ Ts
exactly we build community trough our shared goal "the students" https://t.co/acnz5Olzok
it all comes down to our Ss. And in reality, exclude a T and you're excluding her class too; her Ss. Not fair.
Have a great day, Friends.
Love the themed dress :) https://t.co/CztVyYoMSJ
We have 4 middle school teachers. We dress in themes every week (plaid, pink on mean girl Weds), and go out to eat together often.
Actually that's part of the collab project I mentioned earlier! Ts visit other schools/Ts: watching, listening, learning.
You have the longest school year. This happened last year.
Food!!! Yesterday our admin hosted a Chicken Barbeque for us in honor of Teacher Appreciation Day-We bonded while we ate!
Connecting with the Ts as ppl 1st will go a long way to connecting with them as professionals
I think comm builds on community. Like u said, u start in ur classroom then all build from there to the school level
how right you are! The building of culture and community takes time, sweat, effort and prayer.
good fences but no walls?
That's sweet! We have a chair massage! https://t.co/RINWqcH9U1
Food!!! Yesterday our admin hosted a Chicken Barbeque for us in honor of Teacher Appreciation Day-We bonded while we ate!
Wonder which comes first...people not valuing their jobs or not feeling valued for the work they do?
I love what is doing w/ her junior NHS kids to spread T appreciation. But, yes, good point, Mary Lou!
I also like to have a light side.... laugh & be supportive of colleagues personal life. It's a give and take atmosphere by all.
they certainly feed off of one another, ! https://t.co/2Wp67uX5bl
Wonder which comes first...people not valuing their jobs or not feeling valued for the work they do?
I'm totally in with! Feeling fortunate that I'll be able to do this more next yr w/ schools in R region.
I work with an incredibly supportive staff and community. We laugh in the staffroom. Work is fun.
Love this idea, Oona!
https://t.co/FR5utuvPct
One ritual we have in my department is to start each meeting sharing what we're reading. One T gives a book talk. It's so helpful.
Wish we had the smellevision option! Or teleporting!
Great point, Rachel! Still always willing to do my part. I never wait in others 😉.
OK - wait a second here - did you say you have a chair massage? For teachers? For me - that trumps food!
flew by this morning, wow! Everyone enjoy their Wednesday! And happy Teacher Appreciation week!
Have a great Wednesday every1! Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
I hear u! I am all in on building + in the building. However, there are others that will tank any idea, no matter what.
Great ? I think people need to feel valued for what they do! This needs to come from ts and adm
Good q Melissa. No matter how we see it , from the Ts perspective it's probably not feeling valued
Oh yeah! :) On a sign up basis for the time that works best for you https://t.co/l7ojVNw5gv
OK - wait a second here - did you say you have a chair massage? For teachers? For me - that trumps food!
Think about what a strong staff community means for students! What we believe in, work at and grow as Ts speaks volumes to Ss!
We can do a group skype, all at the same time to share on a question. How fun! https://t.co/LSSr7kC1hd
We need to bring this together. ?
is doing something similar!
Yes, I've heard of schools doing this as part of their "staff meeting" https://t.co/QZxzpZ0P1B
Is this a faculty meeting?
In most cases, the apathy can be resolved. Leaders just have to be willing to put in the effort.
Me too - we're a close knit community & I look forward to seeing Ts and Ss everyday. Feel very lucky.
Yup. Esp since collaboration is a huge part of prof growth n success and S achievement. https://t.co/e2EFTbMLh6
Potential ways to build a sense of community among staff would be to celebrate interdependence. Emphasize teamwork as much as 1 TOY.
just realized only answered half of Q - Educator of the Year spoke passionately abt her Ss, not 1 dry eye
Years ago when I took TESA in our district, was matched with K, 4th and Ind Tech Ts. Great opp to appreciate others & their work
Supportive relationships, common purpose, autonomy & collaboration.
People who are interested in being part of a healthy community work to create it. Requires deliberate action daily
I think it's a real struggle to build community in schools, especially in bigger buildings where you never see ppl except at mtgs
Time to run folks! Thanks for once again helping me to wake up & sending me off to school on a positive note!
I understand. We have to wake up w/ the attitude that WE are ready, and if we wait on others opportunities could be lost.
Well yes. Lol. Food is the quickest way to bring smiles and convo 😊 https://t.co/5ZbLSZ5lMQ
I tend to feed them-food and then passion. Recess is often like a mini PLC at our school!
Definitely. Modeling good communication and inclusion is such an important life lesson https://t.co/iOiU4BWNbG
Think about what a strong staff community means for students! What we believe in, work at and grow as Ts speaks volumes to Ss!
Amen! Be the change you wish to see! I never wait on others...just get frustrated when others tank everything.
Wonderful that you could join us!!! WELCOME to a new friend!
Loved today's topic, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, duty calls. Have an awesome day!
We do...this group nurtures me and sends me off for the day filled with positive plans and ideas! Thank you https://t.co/JvgsG3RA3i
And it's in that moment that maintaining community is most important. Someone has to lead https://t.co/RXGtf5DdEQ
Last several years, everyone is just so busy. There has been so much to do in the classroom. Too much change
Great idea https://t.co/YsbKaJotDo
One ritual we have in my department is to start each meeting sharing what we're reading. One T gives a book talk. It's so helpful.
What an amazing discussion this morning! So inspiring TEAM ! Thank you! Have a great Wednesday!!!

agreed. Opportunities for conversations with adults:colleagues is huge. Have some fun together.
I see that! I'm a student hour ahead but it's the perfect time. I'm usually a chick 😊. But adding to list 😉
Thank you! I'm a fulltime Mentor also!!!! 1st time to connect with one on Twitter. ☺️
also agreed. I think everyone needs to feel supported. In some way.
Yeah. I'm actually feeling that way now. Lol . This is a brilliant idea ☺️
Today : How do you build a sense of community amongst your staff? -
I think Ts need more opportunities to collaborate outside of their halls/depts...
Ts also need to feel that we're all in this together, very easy to isolate & think you have it "worse" than others
I wonder if having more common teacher spaces would help too. I know I keep to the teacher-zones closest to my classes.
Finding opportunities to create, validate, celebrate each other's voice and listen to one another. https://t.co/VU1A6cLC8D
By modeling the behavior I would expect from colleagues. https://t.co/y5syg0V8Dc
Today : How do you build a sense of community amongst your staff? -
What opportunities already exist for your Ts? What are the possible ways they could collaborate?
Building a learning community is the ability to build leadership throughout the team.
Building a community is the ability to towards a common goal without ignoring individual goals.
Building a community is the ability to recognize and cultivate the individual PLNs of each faculty member.
Have a positive attitude and celebrate student & staff successes each week! https://t.co/hDFVyTeaOv
Today : How do you build a sense of community amongst your staff? -
In my district Ts use Twitter to build a sense of community- have chats to connect/share! https://t.co/NT7iiAnzop
Today : How do you build a sense of community amongst your staff? -
Any Ts having a faculty or dept mtg around 3:30 EST on Monday & want to mystery Skype w/ our faculty mtg? Show how Ts can connect
Being honest and open to different ideas. Look at the common goals and don't take things personally. Allow individuality.
I think Ts struggle in bigger buildings. So busy or too busy to venture out
I know I am late but we have started a local coffee talk within our school on certain mornings.
at your school or local coffee place? I get in at 6:15 and I'm working/prepping until my first class at 8am.
I like ending the day with something similar - wrapping up before headin' home!
We partner with our culinary class who has a coffee shop in our school and have it there. It is usually around 7am.
Indeed. I can see this as well. Aspire to inspire 😉
Happy Teacher Appreciation to my PLN!I'm a better educator thanks to all of you!
Topic: How do you build a sense of community amongst your staff? -
Hi ! I'd say it starts w/the individual. Venture out to connect with those you don't know well, and relationships form.
What Anne said. I'd also add value of mashing up cliques: Ts, admin, office staff, custodians, IT magicians, parapros
Is there a live stream link?

just realized only answered half of Q - Educator of the Year spoke passionately abt her Ss, not 1 dry eye
Sense of community for staff? One thing I do Is visit every classroom & teacher at least 1x/month with gifts. We chat, share ideas
we do every other friday potluck lunch. not exactly fun, but at least not a "meeting"
If certain departments are the stars & others feel dissed. For instance: AP programs vs. Family &Cons.Sciences
Good morning ! I build community by actually listening to people and acknowledging their needs. I don't know how to be insincere.
I can attest that food does bring folks together. Just had potluck last Friday during PD day.
I enjoy eating lunch with a different department every day. Don't get to do that as much as I used to though
I really like that idea! Time is definitely short right now, so I hear ya!
It is - time is always short no matter what time of year it seems. Esp when so many eat/work simultaneously!
you are right - depts can feel slighted towards each other, and for no real reason. Its sad but a reality
Potluck lunches w/in dept or hallway once a quarter - day grades are due! Nice way to unwind after mass grading!
you could alternate which rooms bring food too - Odd # classrooms Q1 & Q3, Even # classrooms Q2 & Q4.. just to keep it interesting!
Just had a moment!!! Eek!!!
Today - How do you build a sense of community amongst your staff? -
all staff need to feel celebrated so as not to cause a divide. Community has "unity" in the word - include all to grow
It's important for community to be a priority for admin in order for it to develop among the staff. By providing the opportunity
social activities to create bonding
