This is the official Twitter account for #OklaEd, thehashtag that brings OK educators together. #OklaEd is not political & promotes constructive dialogue.
Hi!! This is my first time joing #OklaEd chat. My name is Adrienne. I am a former teacher who is currently attending NSU for a Masters in Library Media.
Kristin Atchley, Counselor lady at OSDE! I’m lurking tonight! All I know is everyone should vote for @joy4ok. She’s done more for education than anyone can comprehend! #oklaed
Kim, proud 4th grade teacher for Norman Public Schools. Watching a NATgeo special Life inside North Korea. Very interesting! We don’t think of them just living normal lives there. #oklaed
A1 - They must have a commitment to implement a long term funding plan to invest in #OklaEd. Providing the revenue to create reasonable class sizes, provide technology and other necessary resources to provide the high quality education we expect for our children.
A1: Most important characteristic to get my phone will be the candidate who seeks input from the professionals regarding #oklaed; not the politicians. I can't stand it when elected officials want to "reform" us without talking to us
A1 - This is easy - vision! Our government has been so reactionary over the last 8 years. We need someone who has a clear vision to propel us forward and to reverse the negative trends in our state. TRUE leadership requires vision. #oklaed
A1 - someone that is willing to sustainably fund education, and willing to buck the norm of a broken culture/concern for students, teachers, and staff. #oklaed
A1) I'm a one issue voter. I'll vote for the candidate I believe will do everything in his power to ensure kids will have an opportunity to compete on a world class level #oklaed
A1: They have to be willing to work on funding. Education, state parks, prisons. We've cut and cut and lost a lot of blood, to the point where we need an infusion. We need smart planning with a realistic goal. #oklaed
A1: Someone who understands our current situation, doesn’t offer “lip-service”, but instead has a viable bipartisan plan to grow our state while investing in education to prepare students for the future. #oklaed
A1 They must be ready to think long term...looking for effective ways to fund education...with a commitment to offer our children the best! Prioritizing our greatest resource...CHILDREN #OklaEd
A1: I need to see a commitment to education funding with a sustainable plan. I need to see a commitment to the people of Oklahoma and values that reflect that. Other Important issues to me criminal justice, healthcare, etc #oklaed
A1) a governor who is willing to work with both parties to create a vision for Oklahoma...increase funding to core services, a plan to help citizens rather than a punitive system that keeps people from getting the supports they should have a right to... just some thoughts #oklaed
A1. They must be able to have an honest conversation about the budget in this state. Open transparency. Actual show up to political debates. Support Oklahoma future and give state agencies the raises they deserve. Anyone else a little disappointed in this years raise? #oklaed
A2 - A proven track record working with Legislators of both parties, educators and business leaders to increase funding and improve educational opportunities for all #OklaEd children.
A1: plans, experience, and not just talk. Social programs, public health, mental health, and education funding MUST be a focus to reverse the severe consequences our state has seen. #oklaed
#oklaed I am Mary B. Boren certified school counselor and licensed attorney who is the Democratic Party candidate for Senate District 16. #votelouder@MaryBoren2018
Absolutely! I meet w/@SenWarren’s team last Saturday. They said she had experts for each committee she is in. I was just like that is what u should do. Ask those who know!! #oklaed
A-1 He must have an absolutely strong committment to public education and be willing to preach the good news that an educated population will strengthen our state in every way. Our standards of living would be so much higher.#oklaed
A1) Our next Gov. must listen to millions of voters more than a handful of billionaires. Our state is in a huge mess because the voices of Oklahoma voters have been ignored. We need a Gov. who is experienced, and emergency certified. #votelouder#oklaed.
A2: A leader that works tirelessly for the betterment of Oklahoma’s children. Someone that puts children first and does whatever it takes to make their education experience the best it can be. And that is why @joy4ok is the best choice! #oklaed
A2) an educator who can create a vision for the future of education in our state.. who will be a champion for all #oklaed students, listening to teachers and supporting the work of schools
Ability to lead innovative implementation of state and federal law; willingness to do what hasn’t been done before to ensure a quality education for ALL children no matter where they are or what their “school” looks like. #oklaed
A2 - Someone who is willing to consider multiple ideas for change. Including both sides of the aisle in legislative leadership AND all levels of staff in are schools. Positive change comes from listening first. #oklaed
A1) Our next Gov. must listen to millions of voters more than a handful of billionaires. Our state is in a huge mess because the voices of Oklahoma voters have been ignored. We need a Gov. who is experienced, and NOT emergency certified. #votelouder#oklaed.
A-2 The state supt must be a person of vision and has the ability to inspire educators to want to do more. This person has to be a strong supporter of teachers. I think we have this person right now. #oklaed
No, they are not political experts. They are experts of that field. They have years of experience and a doctorate. They are advisors to her not political. #oklaed
Implement a long term funding plan to ensure that #OklaEd has competitive teacher pay, class sizes, technology and other important factors that help schools recruit and retain high quality teachers.
A3) in my position it's all about support - I can't change pay or class sizes but I can help, volunteer in classrooms, provide ideas and solutions - and also advocate for increases to ed funding with my #okleg#oklaed
A3 - Continue to advocate for our profession, vote, stay engaged, work for candidates, SHOW UP! We will not fix the teacher shortage if classroom conditions don’t change and if we don’t get salary up some more. #oklaed
A3 - We have to work to make teaching positions desirable again. That includes long term funding for education for teacher pay raises, and more funding to the operating budget. #OklaEd
A3: I hate to say it, but money talks. Beyond that, though, positive school cultures help, as would more personalized PD, more National Board enticement, and better peer mentoring programs for new Ts. #oklaed
A3) recongnizing that the teacher shortage wasn’t created by one problem and can’t be answered with a single solution. Oklahoma needs to support its teachers financially and morally. We all want what’s best for our children and a few bucks helps, but more must be done #oklaed
A3 Continue to advocate for students and education...we were silent for far too long. Build relationships with legislators. Support and encourage new teachers! #OklaEd
A3 Continue to be present and help promote the image and reputation of the education profession in general. Until the teaching profession is valued again, it is going to continue to be difficult convince people to join us. #oklaed
Talking to educators I’m told to we must 1 Retain and 2 Get new education graduates. Those are accomplished by continuing to increase classroom funding and pay. But also listening to teachers and treating them with respect. I’m committed to continue on the new path #oklaed
A1. It's all about recruiting and retaining Oklahoma educators. We've been very fortunate to have emergency certified staffers for the past +5 years. That is not a sustainable model nor solution. We've got to pay Ts and fund schools 1st. #oklaed
A3: Continue to fight for proper funding, the raise was needed and appreciated, but funding is essential. Interest in educational careers is dwindling, the ship must be righted. #oklaed
A3. We have to stop be so negative but at the same time to keep fighting for what we deserve so young people will want to enter this profession and stay. #oklaed
@CarsonCramer1@OKCPS#OklaEd One of my favorite ladies @Black_Scintilla wants to find a new home for her window display. She does this with all her incredible windows. Another reason I love shopping there!
A3: I hate to say it, but money talks. Beyond that, though, positive school cultures help, as would more personalized PD, more National Board enticement, and better peer mentoring programs for new Ts. #oklaed
That’s not fair. What if you were selected for your expertise and it took you to Washington. Would a location change what you know and how you could help?#oklaed
A3: support the emergency certified teachers in your building. Last week I was at a different HS and ran into an emergency cert teacher who was in tears about being yelled at for not accommodating and she was so upset because she didn’t know what an IEP. #oklaEd
A3: the teacher pay raise was a small step in the right direction. It won a battle, but not the war. We walked out for education funding. We don’t just want what you took restored. We want adequate funding. Our children deserve it! Our teachers are demanding it! #oklaed
A3. Form relationships. At the local level there aren’t tons of things you can do money wise, but one of the things that made it hardest for me to leave public ed was leaving my friends. Then again, something that made it easy was that a lot of friends had already left. #oklaed
We must champion our profession. Actively recruit good students and people. Ada High School offers a Teach Oklahoma class where students explore our profession. #OklaEd
A2: One of the characteristics will have to be the ability to manage the current budget crisis. Be able to budget properly and make progressions to shift priorities that will shape our future for the better. #eipt3043#Oklaed
A3b Pay Ts to attend training outside of school day for OAS content & classroom mngmt skills; pay effective Ts to mentor ineffective Ts locally; provide bonuses based on growth. IOW: Invest in Ts! #oklaed
If I worked for the politician then I would be political and not a practitioner in the field. How fast do things change? How long would it be before I was out of touch with the people doing the daily work? #oklaed
A4 - Develop and implement a long term funding plan to make #OklaEd regionally competitive in teacher pay and per pupil funding. #ClassSize#TeacherShortage
A3. Hold all accountable (including ourselves) for our failures and be prepared to walkout again if need be. We've got to recruit and retain our educators. #oklaed
A3) #oklaed must spend the next 11 days registering voters & next 35 days talking to voters. Teachers are MIA due to lawmakers who ignore the voices of voters. Our answer will be submitted at the ballot box November 6. WE MUST #VOTELOUDER.
Q3: As someone who was an alternatively certified teacher, personally, the PD credits needed to renew my certificate were a huge factor in my leaving the classroom. 280+ hour of PD is hard when you are pouring yourself into your students and giving them 12 hours a day #oklaed
A4 - Honestly, I tell stories. I put faces and names on everything I ask for. I tell them what my students experience. Also, I will be inviting any who want to attend to come watch my students present their design projects on “redesigning the high school experience” #oklaed
A4: We must have sustainable long-term funding in order to reduce class sizes and funding education properly. It’s important to learn from the past and make better decisions going forward. #oklaed
A4. We need security in funding because the students of #oklaed are the future of our state. Volatility in school funding=volatility on future human capital.
A4: I say we need a long term funding plan. The #oklaed is just a part of it. Just like math and English go together, so do the jigsaw puzzle pieces of a state budget. Don't give us $ stolen from another dept: find a renewable source. #oklaed
A4 - Teachers, students, and staff are tired of suffering. We need our education system to thrive and that means taking the steps in long term funding solution. #OklaEd
A-3 To fix this teacher shortage problem we need to address many areas. Retirement is one of them. Teachers need to be assured if they devote their lives to this, they won't starve in retirement. COLB is nonexistent in this state. #oklaed
A4b: having actual numbers of how many more teaching positions would you need to lower class sizes in your school or district would be nice that way we can start looking at an actual financial goal to reach for #oklaEd
A4 You will not live forever! The younger generation is going to grow up; therefore, they need to be educated and trained to take over and lead our world. They are not receiving this education at home....Schools and Educators must be valued and supported. #oklaed
Btw: I’ll be doing a FB live chat with @OK_PSRC tomorrow around noon! If you’re on your lunch break pop on to hear about trauma-informed work going on! If not, check it out later! #oklaed
A4) We need long-term funding because we have to stop being so short sighted in our accomplishments. We need legislators that prepare our children and our state for the future! #oklaed
A4:my message is we have 2,500 emergency certified teachers teaching the future of Oklahoma right now. Unless you want that # to grow you will do something. These kids will leave this state as soon as they can if they don’t have good leadership here. #oklaed
A3: In addition to funding, schools should continue putting a spotlight on positive things {including culture} happening in their classrooms. Negativity isn’t attractive. #OklaEd
I know there are many services in Ok that need to be righted but fixing #oklaed can fix many of the other problems in the state. #oklaed is the key to the future and our students deserve a chance to succeed in an ever changing world.
A3b Long term commitment to funding. We must realize there is no magic number to funding education when our student population continues to increase. I also think there should be partnerships with @oksde and Higher Ed to fund, train, and recruit. #OklaEd
A4. The term "long term" allows us to be proactive in our planning for the future as we look for continuous improvement. In the last decade it's been reacting to a cut & saving for the next. #oklaed
A4. Planning ahead takes commitment our kids are worth it. It will take additional funding to ease the teacher shortage and overcrowded classrooms. I’ll say it again...kids are our greatest resource! #OklaEd
A4. In order for Oklahoma stay competitive with surrounding state, we cannot just be the average we have to exceed the average. Why is it okay to just be average or below? S’s are seeing how mess up this state is and the #okleg does not want to invest in them. #oklaed
A3 We need to constantly remind those outside of education that we are expected to fund our own classrooms and share that the districts stuggle to do what they can but the districts can't fully fund our classrooms. We need to share our struggles instead of hide them. #oklaed
I completely see your point. We just don’t agree on this one. In regards to being out of touch, the same could be said of any change in position. I could say u r because u are no longer in the classroom. I don’t think u r. #oklaed
A4: Our State needs to provide the funding to support the instructional tools that inspire our students to excel and compete for future academic success and prosperity. #oklaed
Btw: I’ll be doing a FB live chat with @OK_PSRC tomorrow around noon! If you’re on your lunch break pop on to hear about trauma-informed work going on! If not, check it out later! #oklaed
A4 Only a long term, broader investment will keep teachers here and trying. It’s going to take many years to dig out if this hole. Hang in there #oklaed!
A4: How do we recruit and retain the best AND how do we prepare youth to win if we do not have a funding plan that is at least on pace with others in our region? Expectations must match support. Reform does not bother me. Lack of support does. #oklaed
A1: Someone who is deeply knowledgeable about the issues and how to fund them. Not only that but I expect the Governor not to exacerbate the divide that exists among parties and people not only in Oklahoma but in our country. #oklaed
A5 - End corporate welfare, make oil companies pay their fair share, criminal justice reform which would free up some $$ and keep families together, Medicaid expansion, ya know - the basics 😂😂 #oklaed
A4: Programs are being cut. Schools are going without librarians, music teachers, special ed paras, etc. Some schools are practically back to the one-room schoolhouse days where only core subjects are taught and one teacher is trying to meet the needs everyone #oklaed
A3. Form relationships. At the local level there aren’t tons of things you can do money wise, but one of the things that made it hardest for me to leave public ed was leaving my friends. Then again, something that made it easy was that a lot of friends had already left. #oklaed
If elected, would love for the education caucus write legislation where all Legislators would be required to spend a certain amount of time in a public education classroom. Experience what teachers experience everyday. #OklaEd
I would ditto you but place a blank in place of kids. Every topic could be put in its place or they can think of themselves. It’s sad how some people are on positions just for themselves 😢#oklaed
A4) I share stories. We have so many hard working educators with few funds, wearing multiple caps to ensure students have every opportunity. It's not just facts, it's what I see everyday #oklaed
A4: Funding a strong education infrastructure in our state reverses the trajectory we are currently on. A quality education system means a future for our state. Like I tell my Ss, making the right choices today creates an easier path in the future. #OklaED
A5 My wife has been an educator at OKCPS for the last 8 years and one key issue has been the same: classroom sizes. Our kids are not able to learn efficiently and are teachers are getting burned out. #oklaedhttps://t.co/k3Skb276rK
A5: I want an Art, music, PE, etc teacher in every elementary school. More TA’s/paraprofessionals. Adequate janitorial staff. More pay for support staff/teachers. Textbooks that are current. Technology. I could go on and on. #oklaed
A5 We need classroom funding. We need for the state to pay for the things we need in our classroom. Teachers spend money out of pocket every year to purchase everything from pencils to copy paper and printer ink. This sign of disrespect to educators must end. #oklaed
A2: Education is necessary to the vitality and progression of our state. I don’t just want to be up to par I want to live and work in a state that is a leader in Education. State Sup. needs to embody that especially considering 👀 are on us post walk-out. #oklaed
A5
1. Computer Science district wide
2. STEM lab grades 9-12
3. +1 Math Teacher at HS
4. District phone systems up grade
5. School fleet improvement
#OklaEd
Because I’m tired of telling our teachers and students “I’m sorry you can’t have... [insert foreign language, arts, music, current textbooks, etc]. #OklaED
A5: Get updated desks & texts. Bring in more electives. Fix the teachers' lounge toilet. Bring back the TAs and paraprofessionals who were cut. More PD funding. #oklaed
A5) classroom sizes, resources/curriculum, professional development, access to counselors/social workers, add programs that have been removed...just some thoughts #oklaed
A3: it’s not just about money and resources. We have to bring dignity and respect of the profession back. It’s a hard profession and not worth it when you are unappreciated. #oklaed
A3: Continue finding ways to add funds to the classroom.. T’s need more “toys” to help grab kids attention! Don’t stop at the recent pay raise. Keep finding more money to pay the people who mold our state’s future! Constantly improve facilities, labs, stadiums, PACs, etc. #oklaed
A5 my hope is more pay for support, more paraprofessionals, and reading specialists. When our schools have these things, it’s a benefit to all of us. #oklaed
A5 I want my kids to have full time librarians and new books every year funded in every school. I also want all students to have the opportunity to work for a school newspaper or literary anthology staff. #oklaed
"I remember when #TheOklahoman was worth buying. My grown children were not born yet. The mayor can relax knowing nothing significant will ever be fully investigated at city hall. Just one example why readership will continue to fall like a rock."
#okwx#oklaed#okleg#okquake
"I remember when #TheOklahoman was worth buying. My grown children were not born yet. The mayor can relax knowing nothing significant will ever be fully investigated at city hall. Just one example why readership will continue to fall like a rock."
#okwx#oklaed#okleg#okquake
A5: Get updated desks & texts. Bring in more electives. Fix the teachers' lounge toilet. Bring back the TAs and paraprofessionals who were cut. More PD funding. #oklaed
A5: Facilities that will draw more kids to programs, which in turn, facilitate higher achievement in the classroom. Books and technology as well. #oklaed
A6 - Flexibility at the secondary level. We are doing ICAPs in MS now, but there is little flexibility w/HS credits required for graduation to put Ss on true pathways. Career Tech classes should count for some of the required electives or additional core. #oklaed
A6. Please trust your state department of education. They can set the standards and assessment expectations. The more involved #okleg gets in setting #oklaed policy the more difficult things get.
A6: CLASS SIZE!! oh did I yell? Good! Because I started the year with 25 4th graders and that’s a lot and I know I’ll get more. I bet I end the year around 30. This is not okay! We need teachers, we need to be able to pay the teachers. Help us! #oklaed
A6: Quit changing so many systems and processes, especially for SpEd. It's okay to try something new when something better comes along, but don't change things on a whim. It adds a lot of time to busy people's days without much benefit! #oklaed
A6) trusting educators, investing in educators professionally, encouraging young individuals to graduate with teaching degrees and stay in the state. #oklaed
A6 Everything I can think of relates to finding either directly or indirectly. Like class size/total secondary student count, meaningful PD. Hmmm...maybe decrease the number of required fire drills, therefore increasing students' time on task. #OklaEd
A4: because our kids are worth it! It’s simple.. surrounding states pour into their education systems while we sit back and let our system die! It takes proper funding to put something great together for our kids. #oklaed
Okay, I don’t want to be a bad guy but I’m really curious about the smaller class size statements. What does that mean to you and why? I love at least 30 in my classes. Could do 40. I’m at the high school level. #oklaed
A6. Not sure how to answer without funding. Better facilities (funding). More programs (funding). Smaller class sizes (funding). Keep teachers in OK (funding). #oklaed
A3: I think it is important to continue to reach out to colleges and universities and recruit. Also, maintaining a positive mindset from current educator - about the teaching profession - will help to recruit teachers. #OklaEd
A7 - They should begin building relationships NOW - don’t wait until Nov 7th or worse Jan. Let them see you, know you, ask questions, get involved. #oklaed
A7: Here is an open invitation: Any lawmaker who would like to come visit is welcome to spend a day with me. But bring your own lunch! We have 30 minutes and not many choices around...! ;-) Seriously, though. It's an open invitation #oklaed
YES! We have to stop grading schools based on one test. Even if it's the ACT. We are still narrowing the curriculum and taking the focus off REAL, life-long learning! #oklaed
A7b: come prepared with what you need in writing also be prepared to listen to your legislator... be listening for ways to create win-win deals #oklaED
A6: CLASS SIZE!! oh did I yell? Good! Because I started the year with 25 4th graders and that’s a lot and I know I’ll get more. I bet I end the year around 30. This is not okay! We need teachers, we need to be able to pay the teachers. Help us! #oklaed
Reach out to them, email them, if they put their personal cell phone out there call or text it. Develop relationships. Share your stories. After the elections it doesn’t matter who you voted for, your Rep. or Senator now represents you. Don’t be afraid to reach out! #oklaed
A7: Don’t wait 10 years to use our voice. Show off our great students/schools as often as possible. Be visible, active, and make positive connections. Don’t stand on the sidelines....and vote!! #oklaed
A7) meet for coffee, attend their events, get to know them personally, invite them into your classrooms, tell them stories of what is the reality of your schools/classrooms #oklaed
A6 Is this a trick question? 😘 nearly all of my #oklaed priorities are linked to a shortage of $. Certified teachers in every classroom, updated or current resources for every subject, and a focus on trauma informed instruction. #OklaEd
A7) communicating clearly the problems that we are facing in our classroom and how these elected officials can help facilitate meaningful change #oklaed
A7 We all need to introduce ourselves to the new legislators and have respectful conversations. We need to encourage them to think about what education really needs. We need to make sure that we are there to visit with about our needs. We can't sit back and just watch! #oklaed
A5: More certified teaching positions. We have seen cuts in our school system and in need of more teaching positions due to growing population and larger class sizes. #OklaEd
Schools are not widget factories. Teachers offer nurturing and care for young minds. With appropriate long-term funding, schools can replenish staff, and classrooms can be the centers of discovery, thought stimulation, and learning that our kids need. #oklaed
A6) review accountability of charter schools, eliminate unfunded mandates, eliminate A-F, protect counselors from being used as testing coordinators so they can provide supports to prevent bullying, help traumatized students, & assist with academic interventions. #oklaed
I have a question for you about this. I live and work in two different counties. I can vote for the one where I live, but the other votes for my school. Which should I spend more time with? #oklaed
A7 Share your story with legislators...show them that parents and the community support public education...keep it positive BUT don’t back down. #oklaed
A7b I have been actively listening to constituents for the past 17 months on the doors. Ppl are willing to share their stories if you listen. #OklaEd advocates are your neighbors, coworkers, family members. I look forward to building strong relationships w all in #SD40
A7 - Don’t he shadow leaders. Being a public official is an honor and privilege, those that are in that position must work to build relationships. That relationship building should start before problems happen. #oklaed
A7) #oklaed should work with @TogetherOK and host town halls and invite legislators to share information about what's happening in schools throughout the legislative year.
Great question. First relationship is with your personal member. That is where you have the most influence. However, I think you should also feel free to engage the members where you teach. Good members will welcome your feedback if you teach in their district. #oklaed
I LOVE this idea! My husband and I make just over the Oklahoma Promise cutoff, but it would be really helpful to get. We'll have a tough time sending our daughter to college. #oklaed
A8 - I have been volunteering for candidates & registering Ss to vote at my school. I plan to take a personal day on Election Day to drive people to the polls, hold signs, etc. Y’all I’m serious about this!! #oklaed
A6: Stumped. Funding is what I keep coming back to. How about checking our accountability system? Let’s see what new A-F brings😶. Why not have all 9th-12th graders take ACT or SAT each year? Then we can compare instead of using a NAEP test that so few take or emphasize. #oklaed
A7: We should build relationships by inviting these officials into our classroom - in person or through technology - to see what we are doing. Also, constant communication in regards to what is needed to continue to keep our students first in education. #OklaEd
A8 Encourage people to make a plan. Will they vote on election day? Will they go to early voting? Or perhaps they need to request an absentee ballot. People with a plan are much more likely to turn out and make their voice heard! #OklaEd
A8: keep being a loud mouth on twitter! :) I am also my site representative for our local union. I will keep getting the info out to my colleagues so we can all be informed. #oklaed
A8: Well I’m door knocking everyday and blasting it on social media. A lot of my FB friends are offering to give rides to polling places. #oklaed#yourvotematters
A8: Some of my Ss have recently turned 18. They know the importance of voting at this point - and not just party-line voting, but caring about the issues. #oklaed
Hey, first time to participate but I’ve been aware of thread for awhile. Current MS Computer Science teacher(3 yrs) STEM Teacher K-5 (2yrs budget cuts) Elem Teacher (15yrs) Overseas Elem Teacher(7 yrs) #oklaed
Q8) #oklaed can register voters until 10/12, every teacher should share the link on their email signature line for the link to register to vote, football games should have a voter registration table. Also, get trained to talk to voters at the door & on the phone. #votelouder
A8 Share the message of how impactful voting is. Motivating them to play a piece in government that impacts them. All the way down to driving others to the polls #oklaED
Restore a culture of respect towards education and teaching. We have experienced a cultural deterioration in our state that has led us down this path. Oklahoma needs outspoken champions of public education in our legislature. #oklaed
A6: Class sizes. Have you been in an elementary classroom recently? It’s a struggle at the HS level but I have and all I can say is Bless ya’ll. #oklaed
A8: Dialogue and discussion. To me it is more than just voter turn out. It is getting educated voter turn out. Make sure others know the reality that #oklaed is in and what others in our region are doing as well as what we are doing and what helps/hurts us as we help kids win.
If you're an #elaok teacher, join us in this free email series to learn how you can help your students internalize grammar in their own writing. #oklaed
I should have confessed. I like largeness bc it supports Ss being interdependent. Small classes take longer to not be all about me. I’m a math T but I do a lot of peer review. Makes my grading a lot easier and my kids learn more from their feedback. #oklaed
A9: definitely via social media, also our local union hosts candidate forums, coffee with legislators, etc. We stay in close contact with local legislators. #oklaed
A9: Twitter helps. The National Board asks us to use #1coolthing to showcase great things within our classes and schools, which helps focus on the positives. #oklaed
A9 - There’s this thing called Twitter :) Also, I invite them to come speak to my Ss. They are pretty amazing! Plus, @RepTammyWest (rep for PCW area) comes to a LOT of PCW events. She sees how amazing my school is constantly! #oklaed
A9) sharing stories - mostly I post a lot and I podcast which anyone can and should listen to because I get to interview the most amazing educators across the state :) #oklaed#passingnotes
A7: Connecting with candidates now is crucial regardless of who support wins. You need to work on building those relationships so you have access. COMMUNICATE. #oklaed
I will continue knocking doors to reach every voter possible in my district. I am a parent fighting for the future of this state, and I will change our course one door at a time. #oklaed
I can definitely see that. Same with 1st grade too. However, @andredaughty had 70 and rocked it! I guess my refined question is should we be more specific when we say class size?? #oklaed
A9 - I constantly share joys and successes in my classroom/school on Facebook and with friends. I keep my negative comments to myself. I have shared the story of my career and successes with my legislators and plan to continue face to face conversations with my leg. #oklaed
A9) #oklaed I love to give my high school interns with my campaign the chance to speak to voters at forums and fundraisers and let them share how their teachers have prepared them to be activists for public education. #votelouder
A10 That they continue to advocate with sincere energy for each of their causes. These organizations represent many, and they must continue to remember that to make meaningful change. #oklaED
