Each Monday evening at 8PM EST, music teachers get together and share ideas about important topics within music education. It’s a great chance to interact directly with educators from all over the world and to get new tips and tricks to help you succeed in the classroom. The entire #musedchat discussion is organized and moderated by Joe Guarr.
It's time for #musedchat! Hop in and join tonight's holiday-themed chat. Be sure to introduce yourself! #MusicEd

No idea. We're in the band that was supposed to get 1-6; had between 6 and 8 yesterday and then got more today when we weren't supposed to. Needless to say tomorrow's concert is rescheduled #musedchat
We did read their marches though last week. March of the Hyperion Robots by Saucedo for 7th and March of the Freedom Fighters by Carol Brittin Chambers. #musedchat
I conducted A Cartoon Christmas last year while student teaching- Frosty, Rudolph and Christmas Time is Here from Charlie Brown. So much fun! #musedchat
A1: I don't think it's off the beaten path, but there is an arrangement called "Nutcracker Jingles" that pairs the words of jingle bells with Nutcracker melodies. It's really fun #musedchat
John Bogenschutz, the creator of the band and music themed Tone Deaf Comics tells the story of why he switched from band director and composer to comic strip creator and offers thoughts about our community from a very different perspective. https://t.co/fCp0Qrpnh0
A1- I like partner song arrangements of traditional carols. It teaches the old standards in a fresh way. My fav was a song called Peace, peace. Silent night partner song for elem choirs. So beautiful. #musedchat
Emily, 6-8 Band & Chorus, Palm Beach County, FL. We had an Extravaganza Concert (like nearly 500 kids 3rd-12th grades) on Friday; my school concert is Thursday. #musedchat
A2: For the xylophones that my booster group bought me to arrive before the concert! Also more xylophone stands, plus a new set of jingle bells. #musedchat
A2- concert is tomorrow night. Well behaved students who watch their friends, no screaming toddlers (I can handle babies. It’s always the toddlers) good diction, watching me, no one faints or throws up. A day off afterwards #musedchat
A1.1: I also did a whole Frozen concert once. There’s a flex-band arrangement by Johnnie Vinson that matches up (key wise) with a choral arrangement I bought (can’t think of the arranger now). The production was messy but kind of cool. #musedchat
A2 also figuring out the new concert date so I don't conflict with band or the high school programs I feed to, in the week and a half I have before break #musedchat
A2- concert is tomorrow night. Well behaved students who watch their friends, no screaming toddlers (I can handle babies. It’s always the toddlers) good diction, watching me, no one faints or throws up. A day off afterwards #musedchat
A2: Would love a new marimba. In the more immediate future, I'd like Wednesday night's concert to go well and be as stress-free as possible. #musedchat
I try to not play the same charts every year.... Unless you are in grade 9 and only in the Jr Band for that year in that case we've played Declaration and Dance 8 years running #musedchat
A2- more orff instruments and drums. We have a few glocks and xylos but no bigger percussion. Tubanos, congas, and djembes would be amazing! So much we could do with them! On a smaller scale, I would love some boomwhackers. #musedchat
A2 a new music room.... Ours is the smallest in the entire board and region. Bless their soul, our administrative team. Has tried to find us a new location. We fit 90 kids in a room meant for 30....#musedchat
A3: having a strong family support system, starting with my SO. He's helped me get through musical season and taken the lion's share of home responsibilities while I had to do so much for school #musedchat
A3 I am so thankful to have become an LU lion. My family was able to move closer to grandparents and my new school is so welcoming. Great staff and students. #musedchat
Also, my first attempt to fully participate in #musedchat in months is being complicated by the fact that someone just woke up with a nightmare, so... spotty and late answers are on the way
A3 on behalf of @FrBressaniCHS and the @FrBressaniBands we are all very thankful for my understanding and loving wife & daughters who shares me with everything music at Fr. Bressani. From morning and after school rehearsals to parades and concerts #musedchat
A3: Sara from IL jumping in late. I’m thankful to have landed in a school with a caring and supportive environment. I’m slowly learning that I don’t have to do everything within my own silo. #musedchat
A3 - my Related Arts team is rock solid, when times get rough they’re always there with a laugh and words of wisdom. Also could never do my job without amy amazing husband and supportive family. #musedchat
A3: Thankful for a rewarding career of watching students progress on their instruments from Gr.5-12. Nothing brings me greater joy than watching my students participate in ensembles post HS. Also, my family is incredibly supportive of my job - so grateful for that! #musedchat
A4: working to encourage more practice and faster progress in band - we hit the page 6 slump hard and I hope we can move quicker after the concert #musedchat
A4: The first half of the year was all about getting know my new students and school. I look forward to building some sustainable systems within my classroom for the second half of the year. #musedchat
A4 Here in Ontario festival season ramps up with the provincial @ON_Band Regional Festival then followed by local regional festivals. I'm also in the works of planning a trip for 2020 to the 🇺🇸... Chicago, Florida or Texas 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔
#musedchat
A4: I am working as a building substitute at an elementary school right now, so the second half of the year I hope to continue to learn more from the students and teachers #musedchat
I've already ordered perusal copies for my 8th grade group; we'll start looking at them before winter break so I know what to order. I'm just ready to explore new music #musedchat
A4 - Guding my first student teacher and letting go the reigns a bit in the classroom, also gearing up for CSWS and trying a new Orff/percussion ensemble #musedchat
A4 second half of the year to build interest & momentum for next year AND to celebrate successes with school team - important for middle school mentalities #musedchat
A4: Honestly, I'd like to hit the "reset" button with a couple of my groups and give them a fresh start. Do some work on improving group morale #musedchat
A4 continue to build relationships at my school to get kids making and responding to music in ways they haven’t before. More singing, more movement, more instruments, and more joy. #MusEdChat
