Q1: How would you best define UDL to someone unfamiliar with the concept to convince them to explore it for their classroom?
Daniel....Indiana w PATINS.
A1: a framework for choices/options
Hey Daniel! Thanks for joining us for ....appreciate your voice!
A1: It removes barriers and allows equal opportunities for all students to participate in their classroom.
A1. I'd say it meets the student where they are.
Looking at UDL, it is similar to using DI? ?
A1: UDL is building supports into curriculum for EVERY learner. Supports needed by a few can also be utilized to benefit ALL
A1: framework for thinking about different facets of instruction
A1: UDL works for ALL students, not just sped students. It levels the playing field for all!
A1 best practices for all Ss
A1) A style of learning that is designed to serve learners of all abilities and learning styles
A1: creating a flexible learning environment that accommodates, supports and/or challenges all students
A1: is like wearing the most amazing sneakers that fit right, feel good, and you just wanna wear em all day...
A1: Framework for removing barriers to learning
Q2: Why is UDL important to the success of all students?
What a great analogy https://t.co/8uviOLhkyS
A1: is like wearing the most amazing sneakers that fit right, feel good, and you just wanna wear em all day...
exactly we should modify & adjust for all Ss
and how could I forget... Best shoes to perform a happy dance in!!!
A1 think access ramps. They work for all. That's UDL
dance party's should be a thing, right?
A2: links the curriculum to each students present levels and learning preferences. Creates an environment conducive to learning
A2 it lets all students have access & participate might learn something new about their own learning style
A2: For math, it would be like creating a high - low ceiling activity. Lets students determine how far they want to push in math
A2: allows for a variety of skills, needs, and interests in learning. Kinda reminds me of my real world applications
Yeah like during technical leadership series meetings, right? As the exit ticket? ... :)
Yes makes for good dancing! !💃 https://t.co/ZtrXETv0tu
A1: is like wearing the most amazing sneakers that fit right, feel good, and you just wanna wear em all day...
Q3: What are the biggest challenges when implementing UDL?
I'm in! 💃💃💃💃shake it off style!
A2 also keeps Ss from getting stuck in a fixed mindset there are always alternatives
A4: I feel I would be constantly stressed about missing that one possibility
A3. Getting all staff on board and ready to implement
of course! Dance your way into the crowd baby!
I think we need to do the largest virtual dance party ever!
A2: All sts learn differently. UDL provides multiples avenues of presentation and response, increasing eengagement.
A3: wanting to do everything all at once...but sometimes it the small things that make all the diff
Most definitely! We gotta get an awesome playlist going!
Yes! & get them to see alternatives aren't bad https://t.co/jrwl6e1f6S
A3. Getting all staff on board and ready to implement
I'm already dancing. Better catch up.
Q4: What are the biggest benefits to students and teachers when UDL is implemented?
Its so true! I found that Ss got stuck on jargon. Change reciprocal to flip. Ss connect better.
A3 often time in finding the right adjustment and implementation within the instruction time
Hey you should co-moderate with us this fall! :)
A3: Getting everyone ready to fully implement. Worth it, but it's a lot of work.
A3: getting everyone on board...(looking past the initial planning headaches and focusing on the long term value)
A3: My biggest challenge is figuring out how much time before I try a new multiple mean of action & expression vs keep same
A4: Increased level of understanding = less frustration for all
A3: Buy in that UDL is for ALL children! We design instruction so it's accessible for all, not planning with SOME in mind.
A4 increased learning for ALL creates better learning community
A4. Students receive instruction at their level and teachers grow professionally
A4: benefits come from the students...reactions, watching their confidence build, listening to their reflections, & progress
Great point. Do you have any data or tools you use to gauge this?
A4 well if course the Ss receive the best education Ts become stronger educators
Great point. UDL brings a great benefit to teachers also.... it's a Win/Win.
A4: Engaged students = happy teachers 👍
We could put that on a bumper sticker! :)
it depends on indiv students and many times I ask them and trial different things especially to keep em engaged
Q5: What role can and should technology play in the universal design for learning model?
yes prevents stagnation in Ts keep moving forward
Is it wrong to try the same style of on a different day? (or similar, b/c its just that day? :o )
A5 like with everything tech can enhance & allow more independent access
A4 Everyone walks away with something! All learners and the teachers. The hard work goes up front but reaps rewards!
A5: Tech should only play a role in UDL when/if it adds to the flexibility, usability, choice or preference of the SSs
A4: Sts access grade level curriculum despite barriers. Ts see increased achievement.
A5: Tech should be used as a tool but not an answer for everything. UDL doesn't always mean tech.
A5: Ss should use tech if Ts makes uses tools properly. Different platforms have different purposes.
A5 like all lesson planning it should be used to enhance and enable learning, not just a shinning toy
A5:Technology allows us to personalize, plan with purpose, and really hits on all 3 core principles whether it be low or high tech
I read tool as 'fool' >_< XD LOL
A5: technology allows for differentiation in SO many modalities. It should enhance instruction, not replace it
Q7: Here's a great UDL resource from . https://t.co/E2R3xE8toq What tools do you love or think would be great for UDL?
Q6: Here's a great UDL resource from . https://t.co/E2R3xE8toq What tools do you love or think would be great for UDL?
A5: Accessibility for Ss at home can be problem as well. Look for what platforms tools support or alternative if no tech @ home
Experts: Adopting a "born accessible" standard can support efforts/help reduce districts' need to retrofit technology.
A5: Tech provides additional options for sts, especially helpful for sts who read below grade level.
: A6: Would love to know if anyone has great book recommendations?? Looking for something for staff. Ready, GO!!
Yes tech us great but it's not a magic wand most be used at the right time for the right reasons https://t.co/G7ue838CXQ
A5: technology allows for differentiation in SO many modalities. It should enhance instruction, not replace it
A6: Blended learning hands down... Shines a spotlight on the stage
A6 text-speech and speech-text, audio books, videos, gafe, edpuzzle, hyperdocs
Anyone ever use the hundred Strategies book? https://t.co/eyoujdnFO9
: A6: Would love to know if anyone has great book recommendations?? Looking for something for staff. Ready, GO!!
A6: Speech to text apps. I love simple, free options like Voice Typing in Google Apps.
Just read paper that northern isolated communities lose power often. Ts must have a back up. Interesting how location affect plan.
Great point, Emma. Knowing your students and community is critical.
Number Talks....game changer and excellent resource
Google Apps & chrome have opened so many avenues for my kids https://t.co/B3yHgGD32M

I love ...such a great resource.
Q8: Where are you at in implementation? Just learning? classroom level? Whole school? district? Lessons Learned?
A8: Today is first day learning of . I'm glad it was with :) I cannot implement b/c I currently supply. Cannot wait to use ^_^
A8. Just learning. So any of you Indiana folks that have a good grasp, I would love to come observe!
A8: we are cls level but moving to building
A8: I'm working with an awesome team designing a module for teachers which highlights , resources, and also includes lessons
So many great resources out there! You will love it.
I love that. Will you be able to share??
