#IlluminateED focuses on how teachers can create meaningful learning experiences for their students through the intentional implementation of technology. Discussions range from strategies and ideas for purposeful technology integration discussed in Bethany Petty's book, Illuminate: Technology Enhanced Learning, global collaborations, building and expanding a powerful PLN, teacher well-being, and MORE!
Welcome to #IlluminateED! I'm Bethany Petty from Missouri, the author of Illuminate: Technology Enhanced Learning. I'm a mommy, wife, high school social studies teacher, #edtech instructor, blogger, author, reader, runner, & coffee junkie! My summer has been super busy so far!
A1: While we don't have a class blog, my students are encouraged to post to a bonus blog that I created using Google Classroom. There are a variety of topics that they can write about as well as a "free post" option. I award bonus XP for blog posts! #IlluminateED
A1: I used @RecapThat for video responses, goal setting, explanations. I loved it. Some student were nervous at 1st (6th graders) so I let them have a partner and props (marker boards). #IlluminateED
That would be awesome! I'm going to use Padlet next year as a blogging platform - now that students can comment on other posts, I think it will be a great and simple way to share their thoughts #IlluminateED@padlet
A2: I love using #BookSnaps in the classroom! My dual credit students read Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, and I encourage them to create booksnaps of their thoughts ... a much more engaging demonstration of active reading! #IlluminateED
A2: The government geek in me just keeps thinking about creating #BookSnaps of Federalist 10 or 51 ... or 39 ... or 68 ... really just all of them! #IlluminateED
A2: Helped @bachandblack transform their unit on "Animal Farm" this year & focused on Frayer Model & #Booksnaps. Reason = Encourage kids to love reading; Old comprehension packets were killing them. Thanks @TaraMartinEDU#IlluminateED
A3: We use @Flipgrid videos as exit tickets, test reflection, book clubs, current events bonus discussions, campaign videos, and more! I love that Flipgrid is easy to use and monitor #illuminateed
A1. I have not created a class but I would like to. I think I would like to create a class blog in order to communicate with parents what we are doing in class. #IlluminateED
A4: Have not done this. Again, Flipgrid is crushing that with Flipgrid Explorer. Here's a series focused on shark monitoring. So cool https://t.co/epzEDFCBF5#IlluminateED
At the beginning of the year I have my students read a gateway book and create a flip grid for their book. Then when the rest of the student has mini book trailers for the gateway award books.
A5: I really enjoy @RemindHQ for communications - with Ss & parents. I love that Remind messages are displayed as a text on my phone when my Ss contact me (and their phone when I contact them) because I'm much more apt to respond to a text quickly than an email! #IlluminateED
That would be awesome! I'm going to use Padlet next year as a blogging platform - now that students can comment on other posts, I think it will be a great and simple way to share their thoughts #IlluminateED@padlet
A5: I love social media because that is what the parents were using. We had a class Instagram account, I had a teacher webpage, and the school had Facebook, Twitter, Webpage, Instagram. #IlluminateED
