I'm Mark from So. St. Paul. My favorite alone spot is in my backyard (or on the deck overlooking the backyard.) Oh, heck, because I have 280 characters, I'll also add on a hiking trail. #mnlead
#mnlead Hello #PLN Tweeting for a bit from Blaine! My favorite alone spot is anywhere by a water....river, lake...finding rest & beauty and clearing my head. @PrincipalFrench
David from Osseo Schools (Garden City). Favorite alone spot listening to music in my car (or office when everyone is gone). #KendrickLamar#MarvinGaye#Adele yep I love Adele! #mnlead
Roman from Ontario, Canada. HS Teacher/Student Success Leader/Agent of Transformation. Favourite alone spot is the forest for a nice long walk. #MNLEAD

Jen, elem principal from MN joining all the #mnlead friends tonight... fav alone place? Tough call, but usually outdoors. My drive home from school is another great time for reflection.
That's why I like showing up to work an hour and a half before the bell rings. I can have space, quiet time, or time to crank up the music without bothering anyone! #mnlead
Love seeing how so many make use of that drive time. Some could look at it negatively, #mnlead er's find it as a way to process, think and grow. So awesome!
A1 I hate feeling as though I might hurt someone’s feelings. That causes self doubt which can change the feedback given. Always strive to be courageous though #mnlead
A1 When I see students struggling to do a task, when I see someone doing something that is ten times better than I have ever done. When I try to put too much pressure on my to be perfect every time...
#mnlead
A1 Past experiences, fear of judgement, rejections, being pedagogically "alone on an island", taking risks. When you go against the grain, you will always have some self-doubt trickle in. That is why I am grateful for my PLN. #MNLEAD
A1: When I encounter situations I have had before that maybe didn't go well, I feel self-doubt in new situation. Need to learn that one does not always equal the other. #mnlead
Thanks for the transparency, Mark. Remember, we all have the same 168 hours each week. We have to prioritize how we use them. First thing to learn: we cannot do it all…at least at the same time. (to quote my wife.) #mnlead
A1 I'l admit that I am not one to usually have a lot of self-doubts, but when I do it comes from job interviews and comments in teacher observation reports. #MNLead
A1- Being in the midst of learning and meeting tough challenges. Having high expectations of yourself. Wanting to be perfect (and knowing perfection is not what education is all about!) #mnlead
A1: We have such a great responsibility to the future in all we do as educators. I am constantly worried that I won't be ENOUGH for my students. I won't close the gap... I won't have change the world... they way I want to.
#MNlead
#mnlead is going deep tonight! Feelings of self-doubt come when I have spent time, effort, energy planning PD and the response in the room is total silence...just crickets #missingthemark
a1 #mnlead. I agree. :( It's even worse when I overhear the doubters (who never bothered to talk to me about it) and then I have the nagging voice about if I am doing a good job, or should I risk something again.
A1 Definitely fear of saying something the wrong way and it’s misconstrued. I worry about that pesky little filtering system people have that hears it differently than I say it #MNLead
Sometimes we spend so much energy telling the Ss they are worthy & they matter that we forget to tell ourselves this and we needed it. Empty vessels can't pour. #mnlead A1
A1: Self doubt creeps in when I seek balance between work and home and realize I can't work the 70 hours a week I used to and be the dad/husband I need to. Home wins. #mnlead
A1: I have self doubt when I think of some new idea I want to try as a leader, then I stop and ask myself, I’m sure someone else tried this and probably didn’t work out 🤔 #MNLead
So true. Making tough decisions that are not always popular but have the best interest of the kids at heart. Always. Pushing people out of their comfort zone and worrying that I've pushed too hard-finding that balance. #mnlead
A1 As I have never been and I am new to the whole NCTE crowd, being a Canadian, I would imagine my favourite part would be the network building and meeting of my amazing PLN people. Wish I could meet for the first time @DrMaryHoward. We have some transforming to lead. #NCTEChat
#MNLead A1 being a first year teacher gives me self doubt. I’m always wondering if what I’m doing is enough, if it’s all going to come together in the end, if my students will come out knowing what they need to know etc
If others don’t seem pleased, there’s an opportunity for feedback and reflection. As long as the effort was executed based on principles (what’s good for kids), no need to doubt. #mnlead
A1: Self doubt creeps in when I seek balance between work and home and realize I can't work the 70 hours a week I used to and be the dad/husband I need to. Home wins. #mnlead
#mnlead A1 something recently causing self-doubt is teaching back-to-back lessons that most of the class struggled with and not seeing progress... feeling like I am not improving bc not seeing student progress
A1: Self doubt creeps in when I seek balance between work and home and realize I can't work the 70 hours a week I used to and be the dad/husband I need to. Home wins. #mnlead
A1) I'm susceptible to self-doubt when grousers point out all the ways my "idea" could go wrong. Negativity is like my black hole sometimes. But sometimes it inspires me! #mnlead
#MNLead A1 being a first year teacher gives me self doubt. I’m always wondering if what I’m doing is enough, if it’s all going to come together in the end, if my students will come out knowing what they need to know etc
#mnlead A1 On the flip side, as a nine-year "veteran", I see what the "rookies" are doing, and I am continually impressed w/their abilities to connect, engage, create, inspire... & it makes me question my methods!
A1 I have always struggled to find a balance between work and play. I would be the first on admit that I am a workaholic because I love what I do so much. Working on that! #MNLead
If others don’t seem pleased, there’s an opportunity for feedback and reflection. As long as the effort was executed based on principles (what’s good for kids), no need to doubt. #mnlead
Let the worry go, Akram. Even if someone had the idea before, you can adapt it to your situation or offer a suggestion that can help improve it. #mnlead
A1: I have self doubt when I think of some new idea I want to try as a leader, then I stop and ask myself, I’m sure someone else tried this and probably didn’t work out 🤔 #MNLead
I see a lot of people saying that they wonder if they are doing enough for their Ss as self-doubt. I don't see that as self-doubt, I see that as always trying to improve one's craft. #MNLead
I've been called many things behind my back. Heard them coming around the hallway, heard from other students who overheard teachers. I've even been sent a couple of emails (by mistake, I presume) talking bad about me. :(
#mnlead
I had a Supt. that once found me working on a Friday night. He knocked on the window and said work can wait and no one will know the difference. He was right. #mnlead
I see a lot of people saying that they wonder if they are doing enough for their Ss as self-doubt. I don't see that as self-doubt, I see that as always trying to improve one's craft. #MNLead
You bet…as @MichaelHyatt likes to say, I am a recovering people pleaser. Key is to be open to all feedback and show there is a commitment to continuous improvement. What’s Next? #mnlead
If others don’t seem pleased, there’s an opportunity for feedback and reflection. As long as the effort was executed based on principles (what’s good for kids), no need to doubt. #mnlead
A1. Questioning how I’m providing feedback for folks who need guidance. I want to provide support and feedback and ensure that I do it with compassion. #mnlead
I constantly hope and wonder if I'm doing the right things. It's hard for me to hold back when I want change so badly esp. when we need it, and we do! I am one to where my heart on my sleeve which is good and bad. When I hear rumblings in my buildings- It makes me doubt. #mnlead
A2: THIS! I participate in Twitter chats with other leaders who are real and willing to share openly. I also lean on @momsasprincipal group through voxer. Amazing women who are living the dream! #mnlead
A2 I remind myself of the compliments others have given me. I have some notes, emails, cards, etc. tucked away, I pull them out re-read them as necessary. #MNLead
If anyone wants to come over at 5AM for a faith & coffee & music jam session, you are more than welcome to. I journal at that time. Really 20 minutes of focus on that..then get ready for the day. #mnlead#mustdo A2
Joining the party from Byron, MN. Health and PE. A1: I self doubt about my coworkers opinions of me personally more than I ever do about my practice. #mnlead
A2. My boost comes from reconnecting with the why...if I'm on track, I should be okay. And, research gives me a boost. If "experts" say my ideas are good, then I need to take a breath and go. #mnlead
Yup. When I think I have a killer lesson, & my overly amazing colleague @kbannon10 says "what if we did this?"... It fills me w/a little self-doubt, but also inspires the crap out of me!!! #mnlead
A2 Twitter chats are such an amazing way to surround yourself with positive joyful others. I co moderate #G2Great and attend chats as often as I can (just finished one. MAJOR JOY boost! #MNLead
A) Visit classrooms. When I’m having a lot of self-doubt, I️ need to spend more time around kids! That always gives me a boost of energy and optimum! #mnlead
A2. I head straight to the early elementary floor. 10 minutes of hugs, high-fives, smiles, and love reaffirm what we are doing is all worthwhile. #mnlead
A2: My PLN and professional relationships with leaders around the world help remind me that what I do matters, is right for kids, and makes a difference in a rapidly changing world of learning #MNlead
A2: I go hang out with students. Their sense of optimism is inspiring and fear of failure is almost non-existent. Kinda wish the world was more that way. #mnlead
A2- connect with colleagues, reach out to my PLN! I am a talker- so talking things out even if it's just with the husband and of course hanging out in PK #mnlead
A2.) On the tech side of things I stop to reflect on how far I've brought my program in the last 10 years. I also look for advice in a FB grough from other tech teachers. #MNLead
So. Very. True. But...I have found that sometimes things going completely wrong has been some of the best learning experiences and/or feedback I've experienced. #mnlead
If others don’t seem pleased, there’s an opportunity for feedback and reflection. As long as the effort was executed based on principles (what’s good for kids), no need to doubt. #mnlead
A2 When I have self doubt, I turn to reading and my PLN. Reading always helps me get centred and gives me persective. My PLN tribe are amazing at uplifting & listening. Thx. @cathwilliams05@bmilla84@michelelkelly for you amazing long term support! #MNLEAD
I️ connect with people like yourselves. Although I️ might not respond at times to what people post. I️ love to read and see what my #pln is doing. I am constantly inspired by all of you. This gives me a boost. #mnlead
A2: I look at thank you notes I got and try to remember why I got into teaching in the 1st place. When I think about that, all the stress/ frustrations fade away. #mnlead
A2 #mnlead I like looking back at notes that students wrote me, or emails I received from parents thanking me, or telling me about an amazing moment that they experienced w/their child... knowing that I had a hand in developing it. Will pick you up so quick!
Q2 #mnlead as with everything, always bring it back to the students! Ask them what they feel like they have learned, what they have gotten better at, and what they want to get better at still!
A2 Go for a walk, make something, move to s/th tasky that’s clearly DONE at the end. Sometimes it’s just a matter of pushing through that doubt. #mnlead
A2 I remind myself of the compliments others have given me. I have some notes, emails, cards, etc. tucked away, I pull them out re-read them as necessary. #MNLead
A1: I think self doubt comes from comparing myself to others. I am my own person, and I will grow at my own pace. If it does not work out, the timing is not right. #mnlead
#MNLEAD A2 I read my devotional, "Wisdom for Women." It is surprising how many times the readings bring me guidance and strength. I once prayed for the position I currently have and now I pray I can lead (and survive)!
A2: I trust my gut & values. When I know what I stand for & what is important to me, it becomes easier to make decisions aligned w/ my values w/ what matters to me. #mnlead
A2)Reflect, look at the trigger for the self-doubt, is it “Real”? If not, move on. If it is… What can I DO to be better? Narrow the focus, look at the “thin slice” #mnlead#Loving280!
A2. Find like minded staff and plan more to ensure success. Recenter and remember why we were doing something new - student benefit. Get inspired by my Twitter PLN. #mnlead
A2: When I get down and doubtful I check in with my PLC and they usually have the right idea. They remind me that what i'm doing matters and is usually better for the students #mnlead
A2) I intentionally slow things down by pausing, reflecting and connecting. Asking questions of myself and seeking feedback from others; including Ts, Ss, and spouse. I intentionally visit classrooms, the lunch room, etc. Connecting w/Ss gives perspective . #mnlead
I know there are times I could put in more effort to do it, but I am too nervous to stray from my "proven" (or not s proven) formula. What if It tanks? What if it takes 3 times longer than the way I have "succeeded" w/it in the past? #mnlead
This is easier said than done for many of us in education. We take the feedback and data as final judgment when it is really just setting the table for the next challenge. #mnlead
I think we need to be realistic and know our limits-it's improving one's craft within the limits that we have. And remembering that that looks different for each of us, so we don't compare ourselves to others. Does that make sense? #MNLead
A2)Reflect, look at the trigger for the self-doubt, is it “Real”? If not, move on. If it is… What can I DO to be better? Narrow the focus, look at the “thin slice” #mnlead#Loving280!

A2.1 I’m a big fan of, and share with my kids… “Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming” and “Small steps are still steps” So I focus on those a lot. They’re both up in my room #mnlead
#MNLead A2) I usually have to talk it out with someone I trust. Thankfully I have a very awesome Sup. that I turn to. A good jam on my drive home always helps and chocolate. It's important to turn to friends that understand-like you all! Wine by the fireplace is always nice too!
#MNLead A2) I usually have to talk it out with someone I trust. Thankfully I have a very awesome Sup. that I turn to. A good jam on my drive home always helps and chocolate. It's important to turn to friends that understand-like you all! Wine by the fireplace is always nice too!
That’s true. The more I get involved with willing teachers and our eager students, the more I realize and feel how on point, positive, and effective it is to be an influential educator. #mnLead Love keeping that connection to our purpose. Our students.
This idea of leaning on your PLC like #mnlead and friends, so obvious I missed it for the trees. Have at least 1 “Go To” peer you can be honest/open with to share and bounce ideas off of. So, important.
Connecting with others who are authentic reminds us that we are all focused on the same thing: helping Ss have the skills to pursue their dreams. There isn’t much more rocket fuel in education than that! #mnlead
The go to person is incredibly helpful. And, I have a couple that are not just going to be "yes" people. They will shoot straight with me. I need that. #mnlead
A3) Honestly, I’m afraid to attempt slowing down and taking time for me, time to rest and do something fun just for myself. I’m afraid of seeming selfish.. #MNLead
Yup. It is ALWAYS about our students. ALWAYS. If we keep our focus on that, there really shouldn't be much self-doubt going around, because it's not about ourselves. #MNLead
I find a need for balance in what I'm listening to. Audible gives me a longer listen that pushes me. Podcasts entertain, etc. I go through them too. Do the monthly subscription to get a book/month. #mnlead
A3 #mnlead I've often wanted to try to do a reverse history course. Start w/the present, and find the "what happened to get us to this point?" approach. I think it would be a fun way to do history, & I think a lot of students would like it.
To steal from Tom Hanks and a "League of Their Own”
"The Hard is What Makes it Great!”
And yes, there are Tears in Education. Both the good and bad kind. #mnlead
A3 I embrace failure but the failure on a stage is a challenge, w/ social media we want to model growth mindset but it’s hard being vulnerable in front of those who are not your fan club #mnlead
A3) Right now I have a robot Winter Olympics planned and I am a little nervous to make it a collaborative online event with other classrooms around the world. I just don't know if I have this thought out enough. What if something doesn't work right. etc.. #MNLead
You know what? That's OK this first year of yours-listen, listen a lot, and speak up in other small groups when you can or share in other ways. You will figure it out over time as will those other Ts in your PLC. You'll find what voice works best for you. :) #MNLead
A3 Haha, I don’t have room to be scared right now. I’m shifting lanes in my field and applying for some large roles that are stretch goals. I’m in “just do it” mode. #mnlead
A3 Can we really be afraid to do anything as the leaders of our communities? My PLN helps me block the fears to do what is best for kids because #KidsDeserveIt#MNLead
A3 I am scared to push too far. I have a lot of ideas and energy to want to make things happen but do not want to disrupt too much in my first year as Principal. #MNLead
If I have a big idea, I want to run with it right away too. That can be a blessing and a curse for me. If I get passionate about something, it can turn into an obsession... & I struggle to get it off my mind. A3 #mnlead
A3 My issue isn’t trying new things…it’s about ensuring that the organization is ready to try new things. I struggle with deciding how long to put an idea on hold so as to not overwhelm others. #mnlead
A3: I'm afraid to tell hard working teachers that I don't understand why all their office referrals are always racially predictable... I do it anyway... #mnlead
A3: Thats a deep/great question. I think i'm afraid just to be upfront about my opinions and beliefs. Even though I know im altruistic, and have the best intentions, I get shut down a lot for (in my mind) trying to make a positive change. #sheep#mnlead
A3- sushi 😂. In all actuality, it’s not that I’m afraid to attempt to learn, change, explore, it’s more about the timing for me. Those ‘what-if’ thoughts keep me cautious. #MNlead
A3: I have been fortunate to work with many wonderful group of educators, and while fear does not keep me from doing this work - there is always a heavy dose of anxiety before going someplace new. #mnlead
A3 I am scared to push too far. I have a lot of ideas and energy to want to make things happen but do not want to disrupt too much in my first year as Principal. #MNLead
Your voice is so important too - even if it's not loud. I have learned things from every teacher I have ever taught with. Veteran and new. Your ideas/thoughts/opinions are more than worth sharing- remember that!:) #mnlead
A3: I usually give anything that’s right for kids a go when I’m with them. The further removed from students I find myself with others, the harder that seems to get. Speaking up for what I believe is best is always tough for me. #mnlead
A3: Unfortunately I once had a counselor that told me I "wasn't college material." Every since that moment I don't focus much on self-doubt, rather the opportune moment. #mnlead
A3. I’m confident that my intentions are good, but I fear that in my excitement, I can sometimes move forward too quickly when I need to listen some more. Fortunately, I’m growing in this area. #mnlead
A3 A3 I am often afraid of trying new things alone. Again with that self doubt. Risk taking and doing something different by surprising a PLN member tomorrow with a visit & gift. This year, a lot of out of the box surprises. Slowly going against my fears. #mnlead
A3) the “Urgency of Now” for the Ss I work with pushed me to move pass the doubts of trying new ideas. Right now the only that slows me down is time🕰. I want to ensure if roll out anything it is inclusive of others and focused on Ss first. That takes time! #mnlead
A3: Not sure about what I’m afraid to do or accomplish. I’ve set some big goals for myself and I’m excited to accomplish them one at a time. 👍🏽 #MNLead
#mnlead I was thinking about Q3 & had no idea, then I remembered that I was afraid to know more abt my adoptive past, but I am moving forward in faith & now I am excited. A3
A3: Unfortunately I once had a counselor that told me I "wasn't college material." Ever since that moment I don't focus much on self-doubt, rather the opportune moment to execute what I know I can do. #mnlead
Awesome!! Keep sharing. I challenge our staff to always share. The one idea not shared may be the one we need to solve our challenge. Always share!!
#mnlead
A3) Other than becoming an… ADMIN… over 25+ years, I’ve tried, I think, everything I was scared to do at one time… #mnlead I didn’t pursue admin because I LOVE the day2day kid interaction.
Q3 #mnlead as I'm in the classroom what I'm afraid to attempt is teaching things not as they are in the curriculum, but that we have learned in class is best practice.
I find it is such a relief to sit down with her and say “I need your support and guidance as I work to develop my capacity” We need to be willing to ask@for support #KidsDeserveIt#MNLead
#mnlead Sounds right though. Maxwell's 5 levels of ldrshp. Too many get the position and stop. You have to get permission to lead, build relationships. Sounds like on the right track.
I know how tough it is to be the new voice. But the voice is needed! I have been able to adapt so many things I do because I listened to others. W/o them, I would not have had the idea or the wherewithal to change my practices. #mnlead
Last year was my first year as principal in my school. All about listening and making changes that are must haves. This year is about improving school culture. #MNLEAD
A3 I always have a little fear when speaking in front of adults. I still do it, but there is fear there for sure. I am SO much better talking to kids. #MNLead
This is a great question! Time/prioritizing making something new happen is more of a barrier than fear... Something that has continuously been on my back burner for a few years is partnering with a senior center. #mnlead
#MNLead I hate conflict. I came into a school where there wasn't a lot of leadership and they were left on their own. It is hard to shift things they don't want shifted. It's hard for me to approach t's that are veteran and are not open to change because they "know it all".
A3: I am afraid to sometimes speak my mind at a staff meeting for fear of being called out. I usually just play good soldier even though I don't agree with the "blah blah blah" #mnlead
A3.1 I think this is an interesting question on many levels… We’re here on #mnlead because we’re Risk Takers, Beta testers, Early Adopters and I think over time, as Teachers, #Fear isn’t the obstacle it was when we were younger.
A3: I always come back to the Cantor quote - "Confidence is the sweet spot between arrogance and despair" #MNLead We experience both, sometime very close together in time.
A3 Uncomfortable conversations in the workplace. Confrontation makes me so uncomfortable. I know this holds me back sometimes and leads to taking on more than I can chew #mnlead
I'm not sure when I will get to it though. I'm afraid of the time that it will take to invest in the undertaking. If I start a project like that, it often consumes my thoughts at all hours of the day, & I don't know if I'm ready for that. #mnlead
It is important to share dissent. Often, it isn’t what you say but how you say it. You might consider, starting with “I wonder”. That helps create dialogue rather than defensiveness. Always can express concern in private too. #mnlead
A3: I am afraid to sometimes speak my mind at a staff meeting for fear of being called out. I usually just play good soldier even though I don't agree with the "blah blah blah" #mnlead
A4- I have a friend who is a principal and my go to sounding board. Helps to talk to someone else in the field. I have my new PLN to reach out to also! Don't be afraid to talk to someone else and ask for help #mnlead
#MNLead I hate conflict. I came into a school where there wasn't a lot of leadership and they were left on their own. It is hard to shift things they don't want shifted. It's hard for me to approach t's that are veteran and are not open to change because they "know it all".

A4 my wife is my rock but after 26 years she is done w/ my self doubt, that’s when the PLN helps, for instance back to school Night is always a roller coaster ride of doubt and confidence #MNLead
That is the challenge!! Have pulled back on several things because I was worried it would overwhelm the system. Sometimes we must go slow so that we can go fast!! #mnlead
A3 My issue isn’t trying new things…it’s about ensuring that the organization is ready to try new things. I struggle with deciding how long to put an idea on hold so as to not overwhelm others. #mnlead
#MNLead A4 I have 3 people: a wonderful woman who teaches across the hall from me, my grandma, and my boyfriend. Each has a special way of helping me realize how important my job/ my own self care is
Or they are scared of what it would mean to change their practices! I understand those feelings, but at some point they become barriers to learning. #mnlead
A4. I have two mentors; both retired that are my go to colleagues. I also am lucky to still have my dad - 85 years and counting! His insights, opinions, and feedback are GREAT! #mnlead
A4. Those who I know share the same core values in my why - administrators, mentor Ts/professors from graduate school, colleagues - Who will be honest & share if I am on course or missing the mark. #MNLead
A3- Scheduling time for me to teach. It's hard not to respond to urgent situations that require immediate attention. But I would love to teach as admin. Maybe not in yr 1. #MNLead
A4. I don't hesitate to share when I'm not sure...and ask those I'm leading to join me in this journey into the not-as-clear as I'd like. I'm also fortunate to have great colleagues and my favorite critical friend, @JoniHagebock! #mnlead
A4 #mnlead I have a couple amazing go-to colleagues in my school. They can help put things into perspective like no one I've ever seen! My wife is amazing at it too. My mentor (who retired) is extremely helpful too.
I have had some great mentors so I reach out to them! I am also lucky to still have the former principal around to talk to and of course my Assistant Principal, Social Worker, and Ts. Even parents at times. It all depends on the situation. #MNLead
A4) Professionally if I’m having feelings of self-doubt I reach out to other principals/supts via twitter/email/text/phone. I also have reached out to teachers. Personally, family & trusted friends. #MNlead
A4. I have a great group of administrators and friends that I can lean on during times of self-doubt. They ask good questions, listen and provide honest feedback. These are folks I trust to tell me how it is, not just what I want to hear. #mnlead
A4- I pray... a lot. I rely on my family, my closest friends, and my admin team. I know they’ll kick me in the butt or give me positive boost, whichever is needed most (or both). #mnlead
A4) My husband is the most supportive spouse and can help me see an out of education viewpoint. Inside schools I have THE BEST co-workers across different schools & districts. #mnlead
My PLN. People I can trust. People I love-that I know love me-but will be honest with me. And sometimes...I choose to be vulnerable at a staff meeting and throw it on the table- this can lead to a lot of honest conversations which can be amazing. #mnlead
A4: My partner in crime in the Social Social Department is my content go to. But @KMS_CommArts is right across the hall and always has my ear for wacky untested ideas.#mnlead
A4: my go-to depends on the nature of the issue I’m sorting out. I’ve learned to rely on and value the perspective of the different ppl around me. #MNLead
A2-A couple activities help me over my self-doubt, watch students learn and teacher rock their teaching and running helps clear my mind of the doubts that creep in. #mnlead
A4) This is tough for me because I hate sharing my self-doubt. But my partner is my rock. I also couldn't see forward sometimes w/o @kbaskin_ahs@tyLanasaurusrex@AndreaMalo_AHS and my sisters/mom. #mnlead
I miss @kwessel10 at @ISD911 & our good mojo every day. I am blessed to have a great tribe of ladies at @SLP_Schools. Everyday pep talks & laughter. It is so needed. I also have to shout out to my family! LOVE them! #mnlead A4
In reply to
@PrincipalFrench, @kwessel10, @ISD911, @SLP_Schools
A4: Since I am no longer school based my PLN has become central. I usually work alone and with total strangers. It can be lonely but educators are so welcoming. #mnlead
My PLN. People I can trust. People I love-that I know love me-but will be honest with me. And sometimes...I choose to be vulnerable at a staff meeting and throw it on the table- this can lead to a lot of honest conversations which can be amazing. #mnlead
A4: I lean on my PLN and also think back to some of the words of wisdom my mentors have given me over the years. I have been lucky to have had great mentors who believed in me before I did. @mbdmom2@MatthewXJoseph#mnlead
That is the position we are now in, Wade. Our job is to see the entire system and move it forward. Unfortunately, that sometimes means intentionally putting on the brakes. #mnlead
#mnlead
I am not me without my PLN. SOmebody out there has already faced same dilemma, decision, outcome.Get connected - Get on Voxer if not already. "People will come, Ray..." #mnlead
A4) This is tough for me because I hate sharing my self-doubt. But my partner is my rock. I also couldn't see forward sometimes w/o @kbaskin_ahs@tyLanasaurusrex@AndreaMalo_AHS and my sisters/mom. #mnlead
These situations, and I think all of use have experienced them, drive me crazy… The “This too will pass” or the “We’ve always done it this way” people… UGH! If you’re not moving forwards, you’re moving backwards. Find a Culture that fits you, or create your own. #mnlead
A4 Trust is essential. I have different ppl I reach out to depending on the situation. That's the power of having a #PLN. Not all of these people work in my district. Knowing our Twitter ppl are out there, always willing to help, makes a difference. #mnlead

We’ve all been there! If you’re not having those thoughts as pre-service teacher… Somethings wrong! ;-) LOL Keep at it! Do you have a Mentor? IF not, find one! #mnlead
A5) I have two teachers who are doubting themselves due to one challenging student, and I try to pour truth into them whenever I can, that they are both phenomenal teachers! #MNLead
A5 I usually try to share some personal examples of when I have had self-doubt and shared what I did in those situations. A lot of times it sharing the humorous, embarrassing stories. #MNLead
A5 It is natural and normal. Do not worry, do not lose hope. The best thing one can do is have amazing friends who support them no matter what! To always challenge status quo, to always do what is right and lead with kindness. Be authentic, be YOU. #mnlead
A5 I rely on my cognitive coaching training. I paraphrase their concerns and ask questions to help them come to the conclusion on their own. It is incredibly powerful and rewarding. #mnlead
A5 Amazing learning comes from self doubt and fear. Get together with colleagues, take risks, try something new and reflect. The self doubt will dissipate with every small success. You need to work through it because #KidsDeserveIt#MNLead
A5: That a little self-doubt is not only normal it's healthy bc it can prevent a leader from crossing the line between self-confidence & arrogance #mnlead
I am all about giving things a try so I say let’s do it and see what happens. I offer to help however I can. As long as it is leading to new learning, I am on board. #MNLead
A5) I teach math...self doubt is everywhere...I tell the kids being wrong and learning is way better than trying to cheat, copy, or guess your way through #mnlead
A5: That a little self-doubt is not only normal it's healthy bc it can prevent a leader from crossing the line between self-confidence & arrogance #mnlead
#bebrave The magic is waiting for you just outside of the fixed position of being scared to a moving position of being scared but doing it anyways. #mnlead A5
A5- I try my best to encourage them and make them see how great they are. I remind them of things they have accomplished- or how proud they will be when they accomplish. A hug helps too! #MNLEAD
A5: I ask them to tell me about what could go right. They are already focused on all their doubts, so I try to get them to see the positive outcomes. #mnlead
A5: "Yeah, just do it!" There is no harm in trying something that is an ember of an idea in your mind. This guy isn't going to get in the way of innovation and creativity. (unless you'd likely get hurt by it!) #mnlead
A5.1 Self-doubt often comes from a lack of efficacy. Help people make connections from previous success to current circumstances. Help them apply those skills… #mnlead
A5) Point out how they have prepared, or that they have succeeded in the past, or that it's worth a try, or that I will help them. Or just listen. Sometimes that's all they want/need. #mnlead
A5. I do my best to listen and ask questions to lead them to reflecting about the great work they are doing. It can't be about what I bring to them-it has to be a recognition about the good they bring to the world. Cognitive coaching wins! #mnlead
A4: I can honestly say that it's the students that always pick me up. I just have to make a self-deprecating comment, and they are right there. #mnlead
A4. My mom is one who will always listen to me vent if I need to. And I value my dad's years of experience in leadership - he helps keep me focused on the students and the issues not the drama. #MNlead
This is an interesting Point, made by Mindy! How many of you Bounce Pedagogy stuff off of your non-teacher spouses/significant others? More than the “Today was a tough day because…” #mnlead
A4 #mnlead reach out to mentors, people who have coached me along the way, and friends who are working/teaching at other schools. They are experiencing diff things and help to re-inspire!
A5- I listen more than I talk. Sometimes we just need a sounding board. I ask ‘how can I help’, and I find strengths they may not see in themselves or their work. Find ways to celebrate the process. #mnlead
Which is probably what my principal would say if I asked the same question. Sometimes it feel like it's a teacher vs. admin world...when in its not. #mnlead
A5 I remind them of all of the amazing things they have already done, where they may have come from and that I am here, everyday, to watch you shine! #mnlead
Probably because you are comparing yourself to the job you were doing last year. You are a victim of your own excellence--I'd be scared too if I had to live up to your reputation! :0) #MNLead
A5: That a little self-doubt is not only normal it's healthy bc it can prevent a leader from crossing the line between self-confidence & arrogance #mnlead
Helping others with their self doubt is so much easier than facing our own. I help them see the amazing things they are doing- I share my struggles and areas of growth- and I remind them GROWTH and RISK TAKING are the sweet spots! Don't turn that into self doubt..#mnlead
Q4: My wife has remarkable perspectives. My colleagues near and far keep it real. I’m thankful to report to a principal - @MattEsterby - who gets me. #mnlead
With kids I always tell them, "that I would never make them work on something that I didn't believe they could successfully do. I would never set them up for failure." That seems to help quite a bit. #MNLead
#MNLead A5: growth requires you to live outside your comfort zone. Also important to let them know they have permission to fail. Learn from it and move on.
A5) I work hard to listen & question for understanding, not tell or try to “solve” in these situations. It’s been a focus if mine - body language & all to sit back. #mnlead
A5 I try to encourage and listen the best I can with an authentic and real conversation. Means a lot when there’s an authentic relationship attached as well. #MNLead
Thanks so much, @PrincipalFrench ! Great chat. I have to run, but everyone remember to tip your waiters and waitresses and FOLLOW people who pushed your thinking or challenged your beliefs. #mnlead
A5 self doubt is always part of the equation but for me it is the what comes next that pushes me that doubt n that synergy that comes w/team! We r all part of this n the power of yet is so powerful #MNLead
A5: @mahillmann pretty much modeled what he would tell someone who is experiencing self doubt as he replied to my first response 😀#ThankYou Matt! #MNLead
Ding Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner…listening is so undervalued and so important. I literally bite my tongue so I listen to listen and avoid listening to respond! #mnlead
A5- I listen more than I talk. Sometimes we just need a sounding board. I ask ‘how can I help’, and I find strengths they may not see in themselves or their work. Find ways to celebrate the process. #mnlead
A5 Most times it is listening & allowing them to talk thru the doubt. A little coaching along the way allows them to solve the issue. Reassurance that it is normal to doubt always helps.
#mnlead
A5. For students, I see this all the time when they challenge themselves outside. I tell them to listen to their body. Point out what I observe they can do. They know when to push, or when to try again another day. #mnlead
OK, talk about self-doubt. I have no idea if this tweet makes sense or not. Have I used too many negatives or not enough? #HopeYouAllUnderstandKoryTalk#MNLead
With kids I always tell them, "that I would never make them work on something that I didn't believe they could successfully do. I would never set them up for failure." That seems to help quite a bit. #MNLead
A5 How can I help you achieve your goal? What is getting in the way? Your success is important to me. When you do well, we all do well.
We're in education. When all of us overcome self-doubt, kids get the benefit. #mnlead
#MNLead I tell them that we are in this together and that we are a team and help each other. That we always have self-doubt and we need to lean on each other. I always reinforce that they are doing their best and if you are that's all you can do, the rest falls into place.
A5)I try to Model my handling of #SelfDoubt with my kids… “We’re trying this today… I’m not sure how it’s going to work… I’m worried about… “ And always, it’s just part of being human. It’s natural. The key is how you react/respond to it. #mnlead
A5) Sometimes just asking the question, “how can I help?” can be the support and engagement staff need to work through doubt. Simple but can be really effective. #mnlead
A5. Listen, many times they just need someone to walk through the situation and share out loud their ideas/plans & why. Gain confidence in the process. #mnlead

A5.1 Self-Doubt by itself really isn’t a negative. It’s a survival instinct in many ways… ;-) But the real key is how we use it, let it effect us and/or those around us. Because it can totally become an obstacle/anchor or driver #mnlead
I know my Sup, has a cohort of other Supes that he bounces stuff off of. Heck, every once in awhile, he bounces stuff off of me. But, as has been mentioned, it’s about Trust. #mnlead
A6 #mnlead This is always the tough question! I guess I am good at teaching people how to break it down. We often times see the final product, & it can be OVERWHELMING! Break it down. We can get there together.
A5. One of my favorite things is seeing preschoolers overcome something that has been challenging because they want to, not because they were pushed to. Last year after making it over a "high" tree, a S exclaimed "I can do hard things!" #mnlead
A6 I like to think that I am good at coming up with easy, purposeful ways to incorporate tech into the classroom. I am also pretty good at using stations in the classroom. And I am patient when showing others how to do this. #MNLead
#MNLead A6 I think I’m pretty resilient and that’s a strong quality of mine. After taking a top 5 strengths test, I was told I’m also empathetic and futuristic. I completely agree with both of those too! I honestly just love to help others
A6. I've worked really hard to become a great facilitator of meetings. I try to balance learning, discourse and action so we all walk away with energy around our next steps. #mnlead
A6: I’m good at being a #HopeDealer ... Relationship building and working to make our world a better place by engaging in one conversation at a time! #MNLead
A6 I pride myself in being creative and celebrating others. It is not only a passion, but a necessity. People need to be uplifted and shown that they have worth and are appreciated. We need more of this in our world. #mnlead
5.2 - HUMOR. Listen. Question. Provide support. Get to the Grin. Get The smile. #mnlead As a Head Coach, a big part of my job is taking stress/self-doubt from my coaches and athletes. Same for being a Teacher
This is a great discussion tonight. Gather your #mnlead insights together and bring them to #WELeadEd Tuesday night as well. @RosaIsiah always leads a thoughtful conversation.
A6) I'm good at what I do everyday, teaching kids. I have built a high quality elementary tech program that addresses the 21st century learning. #MNLead
#MNLEAD A6 Creating newsletters for staff embedded with video, articles, gif. Basically creating repository or resources (I use SMORE). Staff enjoy having the info without an additional meeting.
I think I do a good job creating engaging PD for my staff that meets their current needs and engages them in learning that stretches their comfort zone and hopefully encourages them to break out of it. #MNLead
A6 How to laugh and smile. I feel good sharing the good things others do. If you see something, say something...I think we should do it for all the positive things happening in the world. That joy makes a difference. #mnlead
Building relationships with kids and caring about them. It isn't something I have ever had to work at - I have a heart for kids. I can teach others how to build that ever important classroom community...that will in turn help students grow immensly. #mnlead
A6: I believe that I am good at balancing my school/home life which is an area that I know is a huge struggle for many and I’ve tried to be very intentional about. #MNLead
I am really good at losing both sets of glasses in my own home. But, I don't want to teach you that. I am also a great cook and a good listener. #mnlead A6
A6 - "I think I’m good at… “ Wouldn’t this be a great question to ask your kids about themselves… And you? I think I’m good at helping others grow. I’m funny too… Just ask me. ;-) #mnlead
And that is OK! I could still give you all sorts of ideas with just that! When I was teaching kindergarten I just had my Smart Board, 1 Ipad and 2 really old computers. #MNLead

A6) In this current season of my life, I think I am good at relating to the home situation of our students who struggle in school, and helping others to see what that looks and feels like. #mnlead
#MNLead Q6) I feel I am inspirational and open. I am good at being visionary and seeing the whole picture but stink at details. I think I am good at balancing family with work. I can teach ppl how to play guitar!😀 I feel I'm too green to answer. It's only my 2nd year as a head.

A6.1 And @PrincipalFrench KNOWS this is tough for Teachers because A)We’re not good abt blowing R own horns. B)We tend to be very critical of ourselves - So, thanks Mark for making us think about it! #mnlead
#mnlead I am really good at being a single parent. It is NOT easy, but my Mr. 21 is rocking this "life" thing & Miss 12 is thriving. Thats all I care about. A6
A6 I'm an expert shopper ;) and I can organize with the best of them! Modeling best practices in the classroom and building positive relationships with the kids, too. #mnlead
The Q6 at #mnlead tonight was brilliant, @PrincipalFrench. In order to overcome self-doubt, we all have to recognize we bring skills to the table. And be confident to name them. Well played, sir.

A6: I am supposed to help people become better at assessing learning - I usually end up reassuring their professionalism, and providing evidence to support their confidence. Its about building capacity for leadership. #mnlead
A6) Systems Thinking, Thinking Maps, PBIS, and embedding Culturally Responsive Leadership into everyday practice! #UrgencyOfNow AND helping others understand the importance of racial & gender diversity in Marvel Cinematic Universe #BlackPanther Movie #HeroesThatLookLikeMe#MnLead
