Q1: Tech changes Ss learning b/c of 24-7 access to info. Ss are able to extend interest beyond the classroom and T as the expert.
My Ss have had STEAM class this year, and are currently taking media production. Use iPads and PCs frequently. Great learning.
A1: More collaboration and personalized content
If you miss a Q you can always find them at
A1 Technology is changing everything. Kids don't even need to come to school anymore to learn. We have to up our game!
A1: Tech has allowed students to connect w/peers across the globe w/mystery skype!
Jennifer, elementary principal from Lewisville, TX Probably more stalking than anything😳☺️
What "value-added" can we teachers give to kids to make them want to come to school and learn? F2F is our ace in the hole
Talking tech integration: Students flood the internet with positivity to combat haters and trolls. https://t.co/Ru9BpBE7hm
I think technology is paving the way for deeper learning which is essential vs. traditional teaching. https://t.co/zirU354mFS
A1 A school I worked with is going BYOD so they are juming head first into exploring classroom management https://t.co/HSvmvyuDjw
A1: I think my Ss sometimes forget I am in the classroom! Sometimes I have to say "hello, pardon the interruption"
Hi . Sarah, 3rd gr teacher from South Florida here. First time in this chat.
Technology has shifted the way in which Ss can learn- personalized, choice, innovative, exploratory, student-directed, etc.
A1: Tech has def sped things up. I made a mistake on our morning show & within minutes a 4th grader emailed me the correction!
Love mystery skype concept! Only done it once, but it was a blast- so much learning, researching, & critical thinking!
A1- In STEAM and media production, they’ve been exposed to wide-range of technology use, and exploring problem solving.
A1 S have immediate access to any information they desire
A1 Create products to show what they have learned. Share their knowledge with others. Gives them an authentic audience
A1:It has allowed students on our campus to become researchers in classroom by using their own devices.
A1: S doing much more learning beyond walls of classroom/school. Parent/student access 24/7 thk to google drive & 1:1 going home
A1: Students have become the leaders of their learning with the technology that is accessible to them these days.
My Ss love to share their learning with a global audience! Couldn't do it without technology
A1:Instead of writing vocabulary, they are researching the words.
A1 Based on observations I've done, many of the Ss love the idea of tech use. They are more engaged. More easy to access. Ex)Kahoot
A1: Ss have iPads, so tech has allowed them to show their knowledge in diff ways. We also do Mystery Skype to connect globally.
A1 With the addition of and activities students are collaborating and thinking critically to solve problems.
Tech offers 24/7 learning that Ss can direct at their pace, style, and direction. It’s not up to US anymore- Give it to the Ss.
A1b. I school I facilitated tech in just bought an HP Sprout 3D scanner. to go with their 3D printer--this is gonna be "HUGE"
Jumping in a little late! Kheila, innovation specialist from PA.
A1: Tech is beginning to turn Ss into mobile-learners.
A1: Tech has connected Ss more to info, Ts, each other, admin.
Not just mobile-learners, but many are becoming mobile-experts!
Thanks for joining. Feel free to jump on in anytime https://t.co/V7Aanv4jyP
Jennifer, elementary principal from Lewisville, TX Probably more stalking than anything😳☺️
A1: Tech has allowed students to demonstrate their learning using multiple methods, which celebrates variability.
Accessing multiple intelligences, and multiple learning styles.
A1 Ss collaborate using GAfE on a daily basis using docs and slides
Teacher facilitated and not dictated. Great work, Michelle! https://t.co/yx2if68uMm
A1: I think my Ss sometimes forget I am in the classroom! Sometimes I have to say "hello, pardon the interruption"
A1 Tech has allowed many classrooms 2 be more S-Centered.More Ss are learning among their peers and even help the T with tech probs
A1: Hello all, Christina, K teach from SF Bay Area. I let my Ss help lead lessons by writing info on my computer projected by LCD.
is totally right. We have to change the paradigm: Teachers should learn tech from students https://t.co/timu7R3hFC
Not just mobile-learners, but many are becoming mobile-experts!
Great way to build Ss leaders! Allow Ss to lead w/ tech. Ss are quite familiar w/ the latest tech, want to help.
A1 started using Google classroom this year after using moodle the last few - love video integration with EDpuzzle
I get 2 focus on meeting w/students more 2 help them progress at their rate. Ss also teach me & each other! https://t.co/kXRNlIZ4CJ
. This is such an interesting perspective. How do you maximize technology without losing your skills in the process?
A1 Ss have easy access to info. Ss can connect & share w/ experts anywhere in the world. Classroom walls are removed.
A2: My own ignorance is my biggest obstacle!
And applying the new term. in ways, which are interactive, collaborative, & applicable to real world. https://t.co/MSXwNW8VFl
A1:Instead of writing vocabulary, they are researching the words.
A2: Ensuring it is purposeful and not just a "worksheet substitute" Also managing devices & efficiency!
A2: Tech integration challenge is leading w/learning & not getting caught up in novelty of cool new tech tools.
A2: One of the biggest obstacles is knowing which tech may be more effective and affordable, but not changing each year.
A2 Keeping up with the technology, access to tech, fear of tech all of these are challenges.
A2:The biggest obstacle that our campus has faced is technological buy-in. Majority are still sit and get.
Can even say this about our youngest learners. Tech enables personalized & self-directed in powerful ways. https://t.co/zvsOBAsVn3
Technology has shifted the way in which Ss can learn- personalized, choice, innovative, exploratory, student-directed, etc.
With that, Ts have to be open-minded and willing to learn. The act of learning is not singular to Ss.
A2 my biggest struggle is ensuring everyone has access and is successful. First half, easy. Second half, a bit harder.
A1: Learned content faster, more time spent on collaboration and showing what they know
A2: Biggest issue is the district's block on YouTube. A lot of lesson videos for in-class flip are on YouTube.
Some of these Ss are very smart and Ts now have backup in case of any tech prob. It's all about becoming a team
A2: Which tool to use in a certain lesson or activity. There are so many great resources, its hard to choose https://t.co/AMsuBtxMW8
A2: Some Ss have sense that they can do whatever they want. Can be tiresome to manage stray cats.
Love this statement. It isn't about the quantity of tech you are using but the quality of the lessons being taught.
A2: many of my students do not have technology in their homes, so their only exposure is at school. Puts them at a disadvantage.
A2 wifi not always working well. Learning curve: Ss use tech 4 different things & get anxious about new non-trad applications
Absolutely! Building Ss voice, confidence, leadership. Lots of growth!
Gr8 response! We need to not just replace pen and paper. Tech needs to help us transform the learning. https://t.co/c54OHXl7yg
A2: Ensuring it is purposeful and not just a "worksheet substitute" Also managing devices & efficiency!
A2 Struggling with parents understanding tech isn't a fad; it's innovation & creativity -we understand balance is important too
A2: Biggest obstacle at the campus level is ed-tech instructional quality across every classroom for every S.
A2: Obstacle in integrating tech is culture in which risk-taking is not encouraged. Ts & Ss must feel free to fail forward.
My secret: teach it to the Ss first have them excited then the excitement is felt by the teachers.
I've heard good things about edpuzzle. Need to try!
A2 Also, not using tech just for the sake of using tech. It needs to be purposeful!
I think this is a problem in many places. However, I do see signs of change. https://t.co/OLWbV3gajR
A2:The biggest obstacle that our campus has faced is technological buy-in. Majority are still sit and get.
A2 Fellow teachers: We suck at doing our own tech HW. Getting teachers to practice & plan with new tech. https://t.co/Zc8ncJSZho
A2 1 big issue is ensuring that Ss are using tech for educational purposes. So much goes on today that Ss need to know how to VALUE
What does zaption allow kids to do?
A2: An obstacle is getting all teachers on board with effective use of tech tools. Funding can also be an obstacle
A2 not all Ss have a device. Comp lab/cart access at a premium.
A2 To help build buy-in from teachers help show them it isn't a modification but a transformation of the lesson.
I agree in value of learning from YouTube. Any chance to set up a time to discuss with decision makers? https://t.co/du8mZMmjZQ
A2: Biggest issue is the district's block on YouTube. A lot of lesson videos for in-class flip are on YouTube.
A2: facilities not keeping up w/tech needs & people not seeing school needs to be different than to effectively use tech
A2: Finding time for individual tech projects can be tough, especially in lower grades. For now, I try to do well w group tech.
Yes! So true, Angie! https://t.co/heZug5hii7
Love this statement. It isn't about the quantity of tech you are using but the quality of the lessons being taught.
A2: Mainly access. I want to be able to put devices in each Ss hands but not possible yet.
This is key! https://t.co/KlSo8qRWAx
A2 To help build buy-in from teachers help show them it isn't a modification but a transformation of the lesson.
Agreed!Crucial that all Ss have the same opportunities! My superintendent says we must eliminate "classroom roulette".
This!!!….. https://t.co/e5Zu4oScH7
A2 Also, not using tech just for the sake of using tech. It needs to be purposeful!
Yep. 1:1 is a game changer. When tech isn't readily available you cat take it to the limit. https://t.co/HfXUDjh7QV
A2 not all Ss have a device. Comp lab/cart access at a premium.
A2: one obstacle is thinking that technology can "replace" high-quality instruction as facilitated by the teacher. People>>Products
Yes! Rick DuFour says the same thing. https://t.co/052OpEx2ut
Agreed!Crucial that all Ss have the same opportunities! My superintendent says we must eliminate "classroom roulette".
Very good point. Makes it even more important to allow for exposure to and engagement with tech.
Thank you for choosing teaching!
so important all Leaders, Ts, & Ss are supported and encourages to take risks.
Zaption allows Ts to add content and questions to videos. Ss respond and it's recorded.
What are some ways others on have helped get Ts on board using tech tools? https://t.co/DVrdUoWhP9
A2: An obstacle is getting all teachers on board with effective use of tech tools. Funding can also be an obstacle
Consistency sometimes is more important than an improved tool IMO. https://t.co/fkTrurVmx2
A2: One of the biggest obstacles is knowing which tech may be more effective and affordable, but not changing each year.
A3: Just like we are doing, Ss are able to extend beyond the clssrm and interact in a multitude of ways to gain addtionl knwldge.
Yes! Rick DuFour says the same thing. https://t.co/052OpEx2ut
Agreed!Crucial that all Ss have the same opportunities! My superintendent says we must eliminate "classroom roulette".
you can out Ws into vids and Ss can watch at own pace and reward has needed
Who doesn't learn from YouTube these days?! https://t.co/X3zkGMh8Ez
I agree in value of learning from YouTube. Any chance to set up a time to discuss with decision makers? https://t.co/du8mZMmjZQ
A2: Biggest issue is the district's block on YouTube. A lot of lesson videos for in-class flip are on YouTube.
A3: Tech redefines learning because information is easily accessible via web. Students now analyze/evaluate source credibility.
Tru, Seth! We can be too preoccupied with the next thing that we don't get great with the first thing. https://t.co/kjNSuRnmhR
Consistency sometimes is more important than an improved tool IMO. https://t.co/fkTrurVmx2
A2: One of the biggest obstacles is knowing which tech may be more effective and affordable, but not changing each year.
A3 We are in the middle of projects. It's helped my Ss redefine how they research when the what and how is up to them
I'm working on Ss asking more questions. Balancing act! https://t.co/OMeouC9pmg
similar to edpuzzle - embed images, text, questions
I agree, Michelle! SO valuable! We’re lucky in my district. Our tech leaders value the importance. https://t.co/9iCCPQ2u1o
A lot of lesson videos for in-class flip are on YouTube.
just wrote and got a grant which will allow me to buy 20 Chromebooks - not 1:1 but close
A3:Tech can redefine learning by providing an innovative perspective and transform traditional learning. https://t.co/D3QvsbYtJs
so well put I can only quote your thoughts! https://t.co/nspD4MSVFg
Can even say this about our youngest learners. Tech enables personalized & self-directed in powerful ways. https://t.co/zvsOBAsVn3
Technology has shifted the way in which Ss can learn- personalized, choice, innovative, exploratory, student-directed, etc.
Congrats, Oskar. This is quite an achievement. You Rock! https://t.co/cg6NjzFyhU
just wrote and got a grant which will allow me to buy 20 Chromebooks - not 1:1 but close
A3: Tech has helped my Ss redefine assessment. It's not all paper/pencil anymore.
Sweet! Grants are the way to go. Your kids are lucky. That's what I did.
A3 All about staying connected as a team. Some Ss don't use their voice out loud but online they are interactive. Creates comfort.
Leading by design! We must put an end to "educational roulette"
A3 Connecting globally w learners & professionals... app smashing to create products showing high levels of knowledge/thinking
I think the more communication we give, the more they’ll understand. Keep up the great work, Candice. https://t.co/gfUckuo6fa
A3: Surgeons using 360 camera technology to stream live surgery. Real world experiences in the palm of student's hands.
thanks- I got excited and wanted to get it all going this year, but gotta wait :( paperwork and such. All good tho
And FUN . Ok we can call it "engagement" but really let the lessons be fun! https://t.co/DsDNk01MXs
A2 my biggest struggle is ensuring everyone has access and is successful. First half, easy. Second half, a bit harder.
Absolutely! Authentic engagement is key.
A3)Oftentimes Ss will apply something thru tech b4 even thinking thru whether that idea or thing will work or not. And that's OK!
A3 Gives some of the quieter students a voice to be heard. They may not speak but they will reply via tech.
Confession: I was going to have a TRADITIONAL classroom. Today, it has shifted around and that's bc of all you educators on Twitter
Don't forget to grow your with these great you're chatting with tonight!
important to meet Ts where they are. Not all in the same place.
thanks! I'm grateful and excited :)
Daryl from MD, tuning in a little late...
Engagemt-call whatever we want. Just has to reel in their hearts, minds & a will to act 4 learning’s sake https://t.co/feyTLB2opx
And FUN . Ok we can call it "engagement" but really let the lessons be fun! https://t.co/DsDNk01MXs
A2 my biggest struggle is ensuring everyone has access and is successful. First half, easy. Second half, a bit harder.
This is so true! Just like Ss, Ts may not have same level of understanding.
A3: 4th graders have realized they can work electronically from home or resubmit work 2 show improvement based on their time
Loving the chat! These educators just get better. Feel more prepared for my future Ss. https://t.co/xCj7ATgg15
Don't forget to grow your with these great you're chatting with tonight!
So true! And that's not an easy task! https://t.co/9cIExbvrRm
A3: Tech redefines learning because information is easily accessible via web. Students now analyze/evaluate source credibility.
A3: At our site, tech has allowed struggling learners who normally sit back, to emerge as leaders amongst their peers.
A3 Real time feedback with apps such as Kahoot- huge
A3 You can or better yet have your Ss create videos and upload to various sites as tutorials for Ss to use 24/7.
A4: Using tools like Google Apps and the cloud, the devices shouldn’t matter. Ss take more ownership with BYOD.
Wow. Probably the first time I've heard Parents included in an ED tech chat. Very Nice !!! https://t.co/2SnZJZkqSp
A2 Struggling with parents understanding tech isn't a fad; it's innovation & creativity -we understand balance is important too
...and often have some of the most profound and relevant responses!
yep! Can't be one size fits all!
A3: Tech gives my kinders "Buy In". They LOVE sharing what they know via GoAnimate, Blabberize, Sock Puppets and Story Book Maker
A3: reflection is more fun with technology. More creative as an outlet.
A4: College students are BYOD, why not our younger students? If it is best for learning, let's remove obstacles & promote it.
Jerod from DE! Jumping in late to learn at
Yes, Michelle… I like this. https://t.co/DCVWcHiYlH
A3: 4th graders have realized they can work electronically from home or resubmit work 2 show improvement based on their time
Yes! Love revision history in Google!
Thanks, Catherine. We're what we are because of the participants on . It’s about conversation and learning. https://t.co/sgcAXxInaS
Loving the chat! These educators just get better. Feel more prepared for my future Ss. https://t.co/xCj7ATgg15
Don't forget to grow your with these great you're chatting with tonight!
A4 Sure! Why wouldn't we? Wonder what everyone in this chat is using. I'm on my phone. You?
Welcome! You’re just in time of the rest of the conversation.
A4 It's about what Ss can do with the tech to enhance their learning not the specific device.
Yes… This!! https://t.co/nJ3ASadgD0
A3 You can or better yet have your Ss create videos and upload to various sites as tutorials for Ss to use 24/7.
A4: It depends on the circumstance. Many of the software tools available now are available on any platform.
A4:I love BYOD. It allows students to use devices they are comfortable with.
A4: I think BYOD would be harder. Couldn't regulate apps. Also have to set every1 up on district internet. Agree about ownership.
Those who struggle with handwriting can make beautiful products too! https://t.co/eojnum95Zy
A3: At our site, tech has allowed struggling learners who normally sit back, to emerge as leaders amongst their peers.
A4 tough one: on one hand you want them to use their devices 2 learn, on the other distractions. Da struggle is real :)
The “Littles” can be the biggest innovators. They have NO FEAR! Gotta love it! https://t.co/oqd8WHUdV8
A3: Tech gives my kinders "Buy In". They LOVE sharing what they know via GoAnimate, Blabberize, Sock Puppets and Story Book Maker
A4: Not opposed to BYOD, but I think it is time consuming to manage troubleshooting and network issues that come with it.
A4: Honestly schools need BYOD. We won't be able to keep updating tech.
A4: BYOD does present its own challenges from a "student protection" POV, but in many environments 1to1 is not realistic.
A2 My biggest obstacle/challenge with tech integration is it’s usually more about “better” than “different”.. +
it's all good Dr. Howard. It's nice to see a fellow educator from Bmore. https://t.co/6blv5tQhQc
A3: Surgeons using 360 camera technology to stream live surgery. Real world experiences in the palm of student's hands.
Individualized PD can support tech growth. Often PD is too broad or generic, not specific.
A4:BYOD free's up school devices for campuses that are limited on technology.
Great point, Jennifer. Life and learning is about choice. https://t.co/PcMEEY9g8p
A4 Sure! Why wouldn't we? Wonder what everyone in this chat is using. I'm on my phone. You?
A4 Interesting ques. I think some type of standards have to be set. For Ex 1 day maybe have Ss bring their own & switch. May work
A4) BYOD only concerns me as quality of device can create 'the hierarchy'. Work must be accessible on low or high quality equip
we are working towards this. Ts need to have a say in what and how they learn.
Really enjoying collaborating with Ts in the Chat! Great way to see different ideas for when I become a teacher.
A4 having 1:1 Chromebooks would be ideal 4 me. Still use phones 4 Kahoot and some other apps
Not only handwriting…but communicating in general. Sometimes tech tools give a voice to ALL! https://t.co/jzBi3b43TW
Those who struggle with handwriting can make beautiful products too! https://t.co/eojnum95Zy
A3: At our site, tech has allowed struggling learners who normally sit back, to emerge as leaders amongst their peers.
Many, but not all, Ss have a device. https://t.co/QnhYo2QNRw
A4: BYOD does present its own challenges from a "student protection" POV, but in many environments 1to1 is not realistic.
A2 How can technology be integrated into learning experiences to take students into new ways of knowing?
Parents equate paper with understanding what's going on. Ts need to find new way to communicate progress. https://t.co/iGOzXKPSbn
A4: Yes! Ss and parents should be encouraged to BYOD.
A5: A worksheet on the comp/tablet is still a worksheet. Engaging lessons, integrating tech or not, is still key to Ss learning.
A4: BYOD good for S to use what best for them, but nice to have all 6 yr S on same when teaching to access Classroom :)
But because the struggle is real, we need to learn how to adapt and redirect the distractions. https://t.co/NWheENIbzy
A4 tough one: on one hand you want them to use their devices 2 learn, on the other distractions. Da struggle is real :)
A5: Always lead with learning, never with tech. Never teach the tech. Teach pedagogy using tech as a tool. Completely agree.
A4: Yes; We should accept the tech world we live in. Educate students on safety. Set up class expectations for tech devices.
Have you ever been to an ? T directed PD. Awesome!
I agree. It’s all about how to make the tech the most accessible to ALL.
Couldn't agree more, setting expectations is key.
yes, just started looking. Seems easier than saving things to a YouTube channel and connecting it via QR codes.
A5 Plan your lesson first...how can tech enhance the lesson? If it's better without tech, don't be pressured to include it.
EdCamps are my awesome. I have been to many and conducted a few. https://t.co/Qe6YVvALd1
Have you ever been to an ? T directed PD. Awesome!
A5: Technology's just a device w/cool apps can't really do anything without the quality instruction that makes it relevant to Ss.
A5: P should not come be4 tech. I think it should be integrated with tech for deeper learning. https://t.co/nXUWpvIk0D
A4Yes! But BYOD & school 1:1 programs do not have to be mutually exclusive. I work at a 1:1 & we utilize personal devices regularly
A5. Technology can't hide the fact that a teacher employs ineffective instructional strategies and/or is obviously weak in content
A5 Ss must drive instruction not a tech tool!
A5 there is a great deal of "tech 4 tech's sake" in Ed. Unfortunate that even some influencers on Twitter push tech w/o research
LOVE THIS!! Not everything needs tech. Tech can get in the way at points.
Tech is the accelerator! Pedagogy comes before the tech. The tech must be purposeful, too. Thanks, Kheila. https://t.co/mxhQ6jdQqk
A5 Ss must drive instruction not a tech tool!
A5: I like presenting the big ideas and scaffolds. Ss need to make the meaning & tech allows lots of possibilities!
so true! How are we using it? Is it giving Ss ops they didn't have before?
Exactly. Paper provides a level of comfort and certainty to the parents generation. https://t.co/fW5YULlu1y
Parents equate paper with understanding what's going on. Ts need to find new way to communicate progress. https://t.co/iGOzXKPSbn
A5:In the 21st century they go hand in hand. We must prepare our students for a global economy. Global=TEch
A5: Pedagogy b4 tech. Tech should be used to enhance.
A5 At the end of the day, there has to be some kind of pedagogical while teaching tech. That is how you learn about tech use.
Tech adds the flavor through all the possibilities, which stretch and accelerate the learning. https://t.co/hzrPcIxJEU
A5: I like presenting the big ideas and scaffolds. Ss need to make the meaning & tech allows lots of possibilities!
Pedagogy is at the heart of all teaching. Tech should be integrated fluidly because it makes sense.
not all tech gets desired results tho, so we must do our HW here. Also relationships w/Ss come B4 tech I'd say
YUP! We need to develop Usage Culture like driving. We don't run stop signs for a reason! https://t.co/vwdqnWFcF7
A4: College students are BYOD, why not our younger students? If it is best for learning, let's remove obstacles & promote it.
My school hosted one last school year. moved… (1/2)
…online this year due to weather. Good dialogue. Looking forward to on-site.
A6: Google Apps! Students can collaborate/discover while learning in so many ways; Hangouts, shared Docs, sites, etc.
completely agree! Love tech but even Ss sometimes prefer old school
Great! The key word is “fluidly”! The tech must fit the instructional design in order to work. https://t.co/5jKblr7Yyy
Pedagogy is at the heart of all teaching. Tech should be integrated fluidly because it makes sense.
Pedagogy & tech R integrated when tech can enhance the lesson and help the Ss gain a better understanding of what is being taught.
A4 This was my Answer 4 https://t.co/FUnfQbLQKw
YUP! We need to develop Usage Culture like driving. We don't run stop signs for a reason! https://t.co/vwdqnWFcF7
A4: College students are BYOD, why not our younger students? If it is best for learning, let's remove obstacles & promote it.
Pedagogy always leads. Tech doesn't make up for incomplete or ineffective, but does take to a deeper, personal level
A6: YouTube, Skype, Various Learning Apps, Library Databases, Research Engines, &Khan Academy https://t.co/3tmGyy00sX
A6 Anything with Google in it is just impossible to not use today. Google is everything! Teaching wouldn't be the same w/o it
A6: I like tools that help Ss personally & academically. Discussion forums, design, anything collaborative or promotes creation!
We’re so lucky to be the leaders of tech integration. What we do with tech matters and how we do it matters even more.
A5: A classroom can have pedagogy with tech, but should not have tech without pedagogy. Personally, I integrate tech in all lessons
Very true, Christina. https://t.co/uLjlqWXFVC
A5: A classroom can have pedagogy with tech, but should not have tech without pedagogy. Personally, I integrate tech in all lessons
A6 Things I've used &I I think Ss like as well: Pintrest, Padlet, Twitter, Instagram, Kahoot,Moodle, Twitter, ect. TOO MANY!
A6 Student blogs-gives them a voice, allows for reflection, great tool for documenting growth.
A5: Like it or not online learning is real. I use and this should help Ss navigate learning later.
A6 EDpuzzle- no more "one size fits all" while watching vids in class. Differentiation at its best
A6: Ss blogging and student Google sites can let Ss personalize, archive, and showcase Ss learning.
