Hello! My name is MiKayla Hand and I am a student studying mathematics education at Cedarville University and am in a course to learn how to educate students online #EDUC2100@cedarville#edtechchat
Happy 5th Birthday #edtechchat Thanks for providing such a great tech forum that we all have connected, learned and shared on. My Technology Integration page https://t.co/piRqUhQm1U "Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own."
It was which tech I wanted to use. Had what seemed like 100 different apps and tried to use as many as I could. Eventually found the 7-10 I liked and stuck with them or changed when something better (I’m looking at you @MetaverseApp 😀) came along. #EdTechChat
A1 - Convincing myself finishing grad school was worth it. I did finish, but it was also the time I started my first #edtech startup - and I haven't looked back since. #edtechchat
A1. My biggest challenge 5 years ago would probably trying to decide an occupation to pursue. I addressed this problem by discovering what I was interested and what I was passionate about. #edtechchat
A1 Biggest challenges 5 years ago was refining our newly adopted 1:1 and working to provide purposeful differentiation. We are always learning and still have work to do but we have come a long way. #edtechchat
Hi! This is Micah from Cedarville University. I am currently a Sophomore here studying Elementary Education. I am excited to begin teaching and would love any advice on how to incorporate tech in the classroom. #edtechchat
A1: Greatest challenge 5 yrs ago was raising awareness among colleagues about explosion of tech options and opportunities. We've done a lot to make choices since then. #edtechchat
A1: 5 yrs ago I went 1:1 iPads. Biggest challenge was figuring out what to do with them in class. Yes! Creation, sharing and collaborating w/S. #edtechchat
Q1 My biggest challenge 5 years ago was getting funding for #math games since I am *SO* not the stereotype of who does a gaming startup. Now @7gengames has 7 games available, so, yeah! #edtechchat
A1 the problems from five years ago are similar to the problems of today ... picking and choosing the right tech for the job ... not being overwhelmed by techs constant evolution #edtechchat
A1: Trying to open a school since 2014. There were a lot of setbacks to the point of questioning if we should be opening one. But recently, we realized it wasn't opening b/c an I'll family member needed our care. He needed us there in his last days. #edtechchat
A1 - My biggest challenge was figuring out my future! And making the transition from being a student to managing a classroom. Boy was that a big leap #edtechchat
A1. Five years ago? I am supposed to remember back that far? Sheeh! Here I am six years ago dressed as the Queen of Hearts for an assembly we held to motivate students to try their best on a high-stakes test. WE CAN DO IT! #edtechchat
A1: My undergrad. That semester, specifically, "Programming Language Concepts". Super difficult semester long project, but a great example I draw now draw from of the power of project based learning. #EdTechChat
Q1: 5 years ago…creating math YouTube videos for my grade 8 class. Challenge to have tech for students to access videos at home or before/after school to watch & learn. #edtechchat
5 years ago I had just sent the final draft of Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works to @ASCD. I have learned that technology books should be in ebook form only and changed regularly. #edtechchat
A1: 5 years ago I sunset our computer lab, launched a 1:1 iPad program and committed myself to promoting and practicing authentic and intentional uses of technology. #edtechchat
So now we are opening this year in memory of him, as he passed just two weeks ago. Now, the school will finally become a reality after all these years. #edtechchat
Glad you are using this platform to learn. #EdTech is not a silver bullet. It works on a solid foundation of pedagogy. Know your outcomes & decide if tech can help Ss reach those outcomes. Purposeful integration is key. Be willing to let Ss lead the way & be flexible. #edtechchat
A1. Biggest challenge in 2013 was deciding how to really scale out my impact and opportunities in #edtech and #STEM. After 15 years in classroom and admin, I decided to join private sector. My passion for #STEM and #edtech is still what drives me #edtechchat
A1: a) Trying to find grants to buy devices for school - Check. b) Creating effective integration lessons. Check. c) Getting teacher buy in for tech - still a work in progress. Some Ts see tech as a replacement for paper/pencil - #SAMR#edtechchat
Great to see preservice teachers here on #edtechchat Keep connecting, learning and sharing with us. #EDUC2100#gccedu My Educational Pages https://t.co/4SCuPYixr1 has links for all grade levels and subject areas.
Brianne here from Houston. A1: I didn't know it at the time, but my biggest challenge five years ago was meeting all my students where they were. Now I know better, so I do better. #edtechchat
Just over 5 years ago I had a new head and gain a new role as a special ed teacher being in charge of #edtech...it’s been a ride but have found the path to make a difference in the LD world with #EdTech#edtechchat
Would love to stay and do #edtechchat for the 5th anniversary chat tonight, but I’ve been on the road non-stop and finally home with the family. So - they come first. Time to pull out some books with my littles. :) Keep rocking friends!!
A1 - Convincing people that they could be proficient in difficult technology like coding, even if they'd never imagined themselves in that role. Now I talk about moving forward in ambiguous situations and there's a lot more likely to believe it's possible. #edtechchat
A1: 5 years ago I sunset our computer lab, launched a 1:1 iPad program and committed myself to promoting and practicing authentic and intentional uses of technology. #edtechchat
A1. Five years ago we were working closely with a community volunteer to place five computers in each classroom that were donated by the man who worked with Steve Jobs to write the operating system for Apple's iie - yup, life was good! #edtechchat
My name is Natalia and I am currently a Sophomore English Education major at Cedarville University! My hope is to teach 10th-12th grade literature in a relevant and culturally sensitive way! #edtechchat
A1 I was entering high school and have overcome some of my biggest challenges. I am excited to positively impact students and have wanted to be a teacher since I was little. #edtechchat
I agree with you. Technology should be used when appropriate to enhance and expand good instruction. It allows creativity, collaboration, and cooperation but still needs to be built on a solid instructional framework. #edtechchat.
That's still a struggle with some of my teachers, at both schools. The old way is the "safe" way for them, though that's not always good for kids! #edtechchat
Classrm mgmt is always a challenge. Issues w number in class, issues w leveling class, adding #edtech, taking away #edtech, using apps, lack of wi-fi, blocking wi-fi, etc. all affect classrm mgmt. Plus how tired I am today.
#edtechchat
A2. When I began there weren't any computers in schools so the rapid rate of change doesn't surprise me. Using them correctly <-- now this is a different story! #edtechchat
A1: My biggest challenge five years ago was adjusting to a public school and the new technology there that they did not have at my previous school in Africa. #edtechchat
A2: I thought that all schools would not have any textbooks at this point in time and all students would carry a laptop or iPad for the classroom material #edtechchat
A1: Learning adapting to new technologies used in my classroom. I’m now in my 3rd building of my career and this one is the most current. I learn technology new things every day! #edtechchat@harryhanna
A2: 5 years ago, I expected VR in the classroom would have been much bigger. Instead, we're going the opposite direction with the cheapest devices possible #edtechchat
#EDUC3100#edtechchat College junior here. We have done some pretty awesome projects with new instructional technologies, but didn't spend much time with a focus on technologies for special ed. What are some that have impacted your classrooms?
A2: To be honest tech has moved further than I thought it would the last 5 years! Especially in terms of education uses. When I started teaching 9 years ago I had a desktop computer and a projector. My school had just gotten dry erase boards in classrooms! #innovation#edtechchat
A2 .. IDK ... I thought I would have had flying cars by now ... at least that is what my popular science said back in the 80s ... dang Jetsons has ruined my adulthood ... #edtechchat
A2: I thought everything would stay the same, which in my opinion, it has to a certain degree. I kind of see a lot of tools that do the same thing is another. I may just have low expectations. #edtechchat
A2: I would have thought that there would be more technology in the classroom then there- for example, more iPad or computer-based activities #edtechchat
a1: bringing specialists into the classroom when field trips werent allowed or feasible. podcasts and some of the museums doing webinars has resolvrd this to some degree #edtechchat
According to Back to the Future, we were supposed to have flying cars but honestly, I thought that by now there would have been more technology in the classroom #edtechchat
A2. 5 yrs ago, I expected by now everyone to have a device that went in classrm, auto connected and displayed. No issues w wi-fi or temperamental computers. What happened to the dream?!
#edtechchat
A2: According to Back to the Future, we were supposed to have flying cars but honestly, I thought that by now there would have been more technology in the classroom #edtechchat
A2. Thought there would be close connections between HS students and businesses in private sector who would mentor them and then hire after graduation if prepared. #edtechchat
A2: I am still amazed at how many don’t know the built in and/or add on features for those with learning disabilities...so much easier now to provide tools to t LD learners that level the playing field and/or easily differentiates #edtechchat
Q1: I was a sophomore high school and just starting to figure out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I can gladly say I did figure it that I wanted to be a teacher. #edtechchat
Sorry I'm jumping in late- taking advantage of the warmer nights with a walk! Tech integration coach in Pittsburgh but work with schools across Pa & WV #edtechchat
A2- our teachers always joked that typing would be entirely done away with and that we would rely solely on “voice to text” software (though this was never the English teacher’s hope) #edtechchat
A2: I expected that more schools would have learned they shouldn't be investing in #edtech without the time, money, and plan for professional learning. #edtechchat
A2: I expected that more schools would have learned they shouldn't be investing in #edtech without the time, money, and plan for professional learning. #edtechchat
A2: I would love to see something similar to “The Oasis” available in school. Even if not VR a real protected environment that the teacher can bring in any appropriate info/ video/ activity and students are protected at school from porn, ads, and more #edtechchat
Q2: Tech companies are driven by profit. Many schools struggle for funds to fix bad plumbing, save the arts programs, and help with over crowded classrooms. If lots of money isn't available to purchase cool new things I think we have to wait for scraps from the table. #edtechchat
A2: I'm surprised that schools still have either spotty access or unreliable technology while so many cool resources are at their fingertips! #edtechchat
I handed out an LCD projector to a teacher that couldn't get her board working - which she uses like a big screen anyway.
It's all good - I upgraded the system by giving adapter for HDMI for her Chromebook!
#edtechchat
A3 I have developed higher standards for what tools will work in the classroom. I am more purposeful with integration and rollout. I am also more willing to let Ss take the lead in choosing what tools are best...and it does not have to be tech. #edtechchat#lifelonglearning
A3: I have moved the focus of my work from tech integration is fostering curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. Often but not always, that involves technology. #edtechchat
A3: I consider teaching to be fluid, just like the technology I use to teach. The best way to keep content interesting to the students is to show new ways that they can see it! Or new ways for them to try it first hand #edtechchat@harryhanna
I used to roll my eyes at technology- especially in the classroom. I didn’t care for SMARTboards or software upgrades (mostly because I wasn’t technologically literate). Now I appreciate the opportunity to leverage tech for engagement with students & learning #edtechchat
A3: I am a lot more mindful of what ed tech I use and when to use it. It's an art to know when to rely on ed tech and when not to. I've also learned not to just buy-in to everything and take the time out to do research on the programs I'm using. #edtechchat
A3: I went from no tech in my classroom at all, to using tech just for the sake of using it, to now using tech purposefully to meet an objective and further Ss understanding. I had to fail and do everything wrong before figuring out how to do it right. #failforward#edtechchat
A3 - my rose-coloured glasses are gone. Much better understanding of the roadblocks and that they exist at every level (Ps, Ss, Ts, admin, community, etc) #edtechchat
A3: Regrettably, I feel like there is almost too much "new" all. the. time. I am trying and abandoning and trying and abandoning. I also need to get my students to be producers, not just consumers. #edtechchat
A3- I used to roll my eyes at technology- especially in the classroom. I didn’t care for SMARTboards or software upgrades (mostly because I wasn’t technologically literate). Now I appreciate the opportunity to leverage tech for engagement with students & learning #edtechchat
I used to be scared whenever teachers used technology in the classroom, but through @SFecich class I have realized the benefits and experiences that tech can bring to the students learning #edtechchat
A3: In the past few years, I have looked at different ways tech can be used in the classroom as I realized that students use technology a lot, so technology is a good way to get students engaged #edtechchat
I agree with you. We made an honest attempt and were able to make some headway but the workload was a lot. We need to do a better job of planning and creating. #edtechchat#flipped
A3: I am biased because my side gig is working for @teamdoceri but this technology plus #LMS, #podcast, and #twitterchats like #edtechchat kept me in teaching when I was about to bail 5 years ago.
A3. 5 yr ago I was trying to teach a few teachers to use #edtech. Now I cajole, bribe, beg and generally annoy ppl until they'll use some technology. No excuses but I do provide safe space for exploring. #fearoffailingisreal#edtechchat
It's a very long flight from #santiagodechile After 25 hours to get home from Denver, I'm never getting on a plane again! (Until the next conference) #edtechchat
@cmp_denver
A3: I've learned that just because a tech tool/device is new and pretty, doesn't mean it's the right tool to use. If I can't explain how that piece of tech meets my instructional goals, I don't use it. #edtechchat
Five years ago I was working in central office, co-founding an edtech company, then moved to designing @EdSurge summits, then serving as Dep Director at the @OfficeofEdTech. Moved from helping local educators to national. #edtechchat
I agree with this. Especially in the University setting. So many students waste money buying textbooks when they could learn the same thing through online content. #edtechchat
A3: I see certain platforms like @AdobeSpark making incredible creations simple and quick. Let’s students focus on what is important and that is content! #EdTechChat
A3: I have become more familiar with technology and seen many benefits to including it in the classroom if possible. There are multiple forms of technology that can be used to advance instruction and the student's understanding of a topic. A visual is always helpful. #edtechchat
Have you not sent your kids out on the net to research? District blocks do not always do what they are supposed to do. It’s still the wild west out there. #edtechchat
Well tablets, in a sense, are just smaller laptops and bigger phones. I thought PDAs were the future years ago. I almost thought I needed another one recently, and then I realized I had a phone that did the same thing and more. #edtechchat
A3: I use a lot more software 'in the cloud' - e.g. livebinders, Google apps, @SASsoftware Studio - because it's easier for me & my students to have access any time on any device #edtechchat
Five years ago, I was working at @OakKnollSHC, hanging out with @s_bearden at conferences, and trying to learn about twitter. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Almost nothing has changed.#edtechchat
Five years ago I was working in central office, co-founding an edtech company, then moved to designing @EdSurge summits, then serving as Dep Director at the @OfficeofEdTech. Moved from helping local educators to national. #edtechchat
A3: I eat, breath, and sleep Ed Tech. I've jumped into the wonderful world of podcasts with both feet and it has revolutionized the way I learn about all things Ed Tech. #edtechchat
Brought in AppleTV and iPad (circa 2012) with a projector and made it my smartERboard. Did all kinds of things. Launched it with superintendent and school board in my room. The next year everyone was getting one. #EdTechChat
A4: I enjoy doing twitter chats for the ideas, the support, the networking. They fill my cup when I feel empty, it's refreshing to talk with other educators on fire for teaching! #edtechchat
a4 having a SpEd student tell the teacher that we needed to use the SmartBoard for more than just an electronic blackboard after I took over class when the teacher was absent #edtechchat
A4 - every time a teacher tells me, amazed, how well some feature i designed is helping one of their Ss. For someone to take a minute of their time to tell me, just makes me so proud and motivates me to keep going. #edtechchat
A4: MS kids presenting their @teamdoceri films that summarized parts of Ender’s Game while whole class is on #Chromebooks on @edmodo Making positive criticism about each project while listening. #edtechchat
A4: 2 favs: 1) Sitting w @thomascmurray trying to keep up w feed during Sec @arneduncan's first Twitter chat. 2) Two years later: sitting with @arneduncan and turning the screen around so our #edtechchat team could say hello to him.

A4: I am currently in #EDUC2100, where we learn about various technologies and how they can be implemented into the classroom. It provides future teachers with resources and experience to help us when we have our own classroom. #edtechchat
A4: I have many favorite tech-related moments, but it seems they all involve students expanding their thinking and scope of learning through tech. A defining question - What can we do with tech that isn't possible without it? Now do that thing. #edtechchat
A4: The first time that I used Google Expeditions with my students. The level of engagement was through the roof and the look on their faces was priceless. #edtechchat
YES!! This is the other side of the block-coin. Restricted material that should not be so. There needs to be a better solution and Oasis of thoughtfully curated learning material #edtechchat
A3 - I have started sharing more & more of what I do. I have always had an innate desire to explore #edtech & new ideas but never thought I had enough credibility to share it with others. Now I share as often as possible to try to impact others positively #EdTechChat
A4: Watching one of my students connect with subject matter that was tough for him until he used a new app & the relief Ts have when I share that @EVERFI is completely no cost! #edtechchat
A4 - Only my second #edtechchat so my best memory is discovering all these amazing people. I often feel isolated and it’s great to encounter other like-minded people! 😁
A5 Absolutely! I hadn't met any of the #edtechchat co-moderators before we launched our chat. Met lots of folks at conferences over the years bc of #edtechchat too.
A4. Best memory is also a growing experience. I keep meting great, brilliant educators - so always learning. Five years ago the community of teachers who were passionate about integrating #edtech with fidelity was small. Now, we are many! #edtechchat
I do not have a lot of technology background, so getting exposure to more technology has been informative and allows me to ponder how I would use the resources in my future classroom #edtechchat
#edtechchat A2: I thought more progress in content management & learning systems. I expected to collaborate in global projects. But our school system has settled for Blackboard which seems to be stuck in the last decade. Coordinating such projects is a lot of work. #edtechchat
A5: I have attended edcamp and I recently learned so much about tech tools that teachers can incorporate in the classroom. It was so much fun talking with other educators and gaining new knowledge! #gccedu#edtechchat
A5: Through the class #EDUC2100, I have been able to learn about so much about #edtech and how to use it inside of the classroom along with using it through an online class #edtechchat
A5- technically, yes! Several of my classmate from my EdTech class are participating tonight! Other than that, I have not! However, the Dean of our Education Dep. & professor of #EDUC2100 is passionate about us starting to build our PLN now! #edtechchat@drjervin
Planning some great #edtechchat things with @TheSouthportSch this summer so if in the tri-state area or want to see our small section of the world, love to connect live! #edtechchat
A5: I have attended one edcamp and got to see some of the educators that I follow on Twitter and have participated in twitter chats with. I hope to have more in the future! #edtechchat
Are there any great resources or technology tools that you find best to use in your classroom for engaging students and getting the material across clearly? #edtechchat
It was impossible to keep up! I gave up and just moved to trying to keep up with our frequent #edtechchat participants. We had over 10K tweets in that hour!

A6: I have appreciated the pre-service teacher chats because I can relate to them the most. I would like to see more special education label specific chats in the future. #edtechchat
I teach a grad level course on ethics for aspiring administrators through Emporia State and I coach paras working to gain a limited teaching license through @WichitaStateCOE The Teacher Apprentice Program is life-changing https://t.co/tj76x00Sij. #edtechchat

A6 I always welcome conversations focused on purposeful integration of #edtech and ways to amplify S voice. #edtechchat rocks these ideas. Would enjoy chats on #makered and use of innovation spaces.
A6: I really enjoy learning new tech and new ideas to get kids creating! I would love some more chats on encouraging peers who may be reluctant to #edtech and how to help them grow! #edtechchat
Yes, techrebbe, I almost would say that there is a greater technology fluency need for students to have instructional exposure to a laptop, since they have so much home, social and entertainment exposure to tablets and phones. #edtechchat
I would love to see more pre-service chats in which current educators participate! There is plenty I would like to learn & advice I would love to receive! #edtechchat
A6- I would love to see more pre-service chats in which current educators participate! There is plenty I would like to learn & advice I would love to receive! #edtechchat
A6 More abstract/cross cutting concerns, and how they are implemented in different classrooms. For example, active learning, what #EdTech does a good job enabling it, and which ones get it wrong. #EdTechChat
