When I was still a classroom teacher I had a "failure wall" that looked like a board game - start at fail, learn, fail again.

Well, I don’t believe in ”faking” failures but try so see the opportunities that arise.

How to demonstrate is important. We also need to let them have opportunities to decide WHAT to explore.

Research shows that we need to test the same area 5-6 times to compensate for daily ”fitness”.

My best advice is to keep a notebook and write down observations from every class. Ss show their knowledge all the time.

A2 I use a 1-3 scale for self assess. 1- I dnt understand. 2- I understand but need help. 3- I understand and can help a friend.

Formative Assessment is crucial to the retention process.

30 assignments w/the same result = recipe, not learning

at the end of the lesson Ss can share what they learned/understood-they'll see things from another point of view

kahoot is a great formative assessment tool for that

There are many activities where Ss can produce and show their knowledge in non-threatening ways that are easier for Ts to observe

I also believe that we need authentic tasks in order to inspire Ss to take the next step.

From my own experience I’ve never seen my 10-11 year olds strive so far as when I’ve given them ”real” tasks.

A2: the key is to get students to apply their knowledge in different situations. That is when we will know if they get it.

An exempel: I had one student substitute a random writing assignement he was struggling with with making an interview… @TED_ED
