I like to use #classdojo in group settings where student rank their groups work at the end honestly. How they self rank is the points they get for that assignment. #dojochat
#dojochat Intro: Hello from Arkansas! I am a special educator for many levels and needs. Primarily 3-6th. One thing making me happy right now is Spring Break!
A1: I love to play a fun song, usually Happy or Just fine and they have to give me a handshake, hug, or high five! We start with lots of energy and try to keep it up all day! #dojochat
A1 ALWAYS have calm music playing (if I was still in the classroom I'd use the Music in https://t.co/2oEIWmmWIu 😉) Calm, happy, start, SMILES, welcomes, conversations and check ins ❤️ #dojochat
A1: My students go outside for 15 minutes before class time. They then come sit in the hallway outside my door. I open the door and greet them, we hand in whatever, we tolk, and then they enter by numbers to pick flexible seating. #dojochat
A1: They filter in well before the rest of the school releases to the classrooms so I give each one time to tell me those burning thoughts or stories from their evening. All those tall tales and even the quarrels they've had. #dojochat@classdojo@ruthyse
I totally have been playing the Class Dojo focus music as they come in and they LOVE it, my kiddie with asbergers hums the music and says he loves it! #dojochat
A1: I love to play a fun song, usually Happy or Just fine and they have to give me a handshake, hug, or high five! We start with lots of energy and try to keep it up all day! #dojochat
A1: I like to make sure each student I see every morning feels like someone is excited to see them. Lots of smiles and laughs about something we share. #dojochat
A1 continued: I also use the morning message feature and directions feature in my Class Dojo tool box to give them a message with directions for morning work! #dojochat
A1 Cont.: I think it is very important to be positive. That is one reason I keep the door closed before I greet them. It gives me time to get in the right mindset and put on my best gameface. I have found this year that we all start happier. #dojochat
A2: When we can be goofy, laugh, have fun, take care of one another - and its beyond learning, its getting to know who those little humans are as people and make them feel important and special! The bond you make w/ each one is so important! #dojochat
A2 A happy environment is a humming, well-oiled, collaborating, communicating "machine". Ss engaged and enjoying a challenge with a smile on their face. #dojochat
A2 a place that's safe to share ideas, make mistakes, and collaborate with EVERYONE! Supportive, full of color and music and diversity #dojochat#thedream
A2 A place where students feel it is their classroom, and take responsibility for it. Also, where everyone makes mistakes and learns from them. Students willing to take risks to learn. #dojochat
A2: A happy environment for us is when we have cooperation, respect for each other, demonstrate kindness, form new relationships and work on the areas of our social skills that need improvement. And humor and smiles to lighten the load. #dojochat@classdojo
A2: A happy environment is one in which students want to be there and are excited to learn new things. Students are taking risks and collaborating. #dojochat
A2. Confident, engaged learners. That quintessential "buzz" when high quality learning is happening. Pupils succeeding makes a happy environment #dojochat
@ClassDojo A happy environment is an environment where students aren’t afraid to take risks. The students will also feel safe both physically and mentally. #Dojochat
My snow day brain is jumping in late to #dojochat#whatdayisitagain? A2: One where students are communicating with each other, smiling, eager to learn. The T is a model of these behaviors. Unhappy T = Unhappy Ss!
A3 flexible seating, choice in expression (like drawing vs writing vs video on Student Story to explain thinking) lamps instead of overhead fluorescents... make it feel like home #dojochat
A3: I try to make my class see how we are like a family, we have to look out for each other. I push them to support and help one another but the key is love - the world needs more people who love on another and support one another! #dojochat
A3 Question of the day- students write answers on the white board. We also have a mistake jar- put in a stone when you make a mistake and learn from it. When the jar is full, we celebrate! #dojochat
A3 positive reinforcement over negative! I am constantly using my class dojo to award points to the Ss doing the right thing, and let the others catch on #dojochat
A3: First is flexible seating. I have so much success with my yoga balls, stools, and beanbags. second is all around respect. respect for each others disabilities, respect for each others struggles. Lastly, celebrating all successes for all students. #dojochat
A3: because of our needs a clearly defined set of procedures and routines helps the flow and cuts down on confusion or opportunities for things to go downhill. We also highlight particular skills by increasing their dojo worth. I also let them know I value them #dojochat
A3: I try to have differentiated activities. I use dojo to award the positive. Flexible seating also helps the kids feel comfortable in the room. #dojochat
A3 an almost impenetrable sense of " glass half full" ,an ability to redeem and a quiet determination to do my part to interupt or soften the institutional microagressions that many Ss are absorbing, continually. #dojochat
I also try my best to use a calm and friendly voice, even when I feel like 😡. If I'm having issues with students, I speak with them privately. The T is the ultimate model for a harmonious classroom! #dojochat
A2: I think a happy classroom is a place where kids want to be everyday...they are excited to be at school. A happy classroom encourages risk-taking and builds stronger, resilient kids. #dojochat
A4: if students feel inspired, positive, valued, listened to, and know what is expected they take chances, raise hands to answer, engage in active learning, and teach others what they know. Negative environment=shut down. #dojochat
A3: We practice growth mindset and that every mistake can teach us something. Voice and choice is huge is our classroom. We also refer to our classroom as our “second family” because many of my students will be in our classroom for 2-3 years. #dojochat
A4: When students are happy, their learning takes off! They are engaged, hooked, and productive! When teachers are happy they too are excited, motivated, and enjoying every moment just as the kiddos! #dojochat
A4: When students are happy, their learning takes off! They are engaged, hooked, and productive! When teachers are happy they too are excited, motivated, and enjoying every moment just as the kiddos! #dojochat
A5 Dojo helps me keep the positive points flowing! WhenImwith a small group, that “ding” reminds everyone else to work hard too. Also, they love to be the “star table.”#dojochat
A4: My superintendent put it best, "if you don't have the heart, you can't reach the mind" or as Rita Pierson said, "kids don't learn from people they don't like." #dojochat
A4. If learners feel happy they relax and can more easily adopt a "fail safe" mentality. We learn best through making errors but getting timeous, quality feedback on how to improve #dojochat
A5 @ClassDojo gives Ts and Ss the tools to develop soft skills, involve parents in the classroom environment, reward students, and help your classroom become more efficient. #dojochat
A5: allowing students to keep track of their success, allowing students and parents to connect to the classroom, and the Big Ideas videos of course #dojochat
A5 Conundrums... it's a reach for my Ks but we're kinda starting to understand the process. Learning how to disagree politely and express our opinions and also not change our minds when the teacher states her opinion. 🤣 #thinkforyourself#teacherisntalwaysright#dojochat
A5. @classdojo facilitates the happy! Positive reinforcement for participation, social interaction, effort, application, whatever you are promoting in class. If kids hear and feel they are valued, attainment will rise #dojochat
A5: My students love @ClassDojo. We use it with a token economy - they can “buy” prizes with their points. They are also very encouraging...they congratulate each other when they earn points for positive behaviors. It has definitely helped with classroom management. #dojochat
A4: A happy environment makes for more enjoyable learning experiences...joy gives us a sense that anything is possible...moments full of hope and promise! #dojochat
A6 Let students reset whenever they need it, take a walk, some Mindfulness with https://t.co/qaQ9Yzm4kS and remember mistakes and bad days are just what happens before we do something amazing #dojochat
Haha! Yes when my Ss get 100 they change their character. The children congratulate them and also must crowd around the smartbord to see which character they pick. 😅 #dojochat
A6: We give them extra time to complete assignments, frequent breaks and just time to talk to one of us (myself or my staff) about what’s going on. Having that personal 1:1 time with the teacher is sometimes all it takes to turn them around. #dojochat
A6: #dojochat
My kiddos are always permitted to ask for a moment alone. THey can step outside and ask me to join them to chat if they wish. They can also get their journal and write their feelings.
A6. We have recently reorganised our Modern Languages base to create a quiet, calm space for young people to work in or to chill out. We all have bad days, we need to recognise and compensate for the fact that our kids don't have the adult coping strategies we have #dojochat
A6: Give them a chance to talk one on one with you - what do they need from you or what you could do to make them feel better? Also, calm down techniques in place. I also ALWAYS rest dojo points to give those kiddies a chance to reset #dojochat
A6. As my #cooperativelearning guru Chris Ward always used to say, "what kid gets up in the morning and thinks, "I'm going to go to school to fail today". We have to support these kids whatever way we can #dojochat
A6: I ask first: what can I do to help? If they don't know I offer ideas like take a break in the library with our stuffed animals or write a letter to someone special. If they say "leave me alone" I do for a while. Respect their need for space even at 5 years old. #dojochat
Those are great ideas and as you all mentioned in one way or another, having a good relationship with our students is very important. That way they can feel comfortable to share their feelings. #dojochat It´s time for the last question.
A6: I have the luxury of taking them on a walk around the building or to our garden. We are a co-teaching model school. Love going to the garden and ‘working’ while we talk it out.

A7 tomorrow, like everyday, I will greet my students with a smile and ask them how their night was (and how they spent our emergency early dismissal today!) #dojochat
Thank you @ruthyse for hosting such a fun and inspiring chat. ❤️ We're lucky to get to collaborate with so many amazing educators. Thanks for another wonderful #dojochat all! 🙌
