A1: I want to be described as passionate and caring, maybe even a little quirky. Quirky teaching always stuck with me
-
I love me some quirk!! What are some ways that you try to convey your passion and caring to your kidlets?
-
A1: attentive, fair, there for them when they need me. oh, and good at teaching them stuff!🖖
-
-
YES! I love the "teaching them stuff" part. What strategies do you use to attend to the needs of ALL?
-
I would love to be known as the inspiring teacher, the one who loves & encourages each student to do their best
-
Enthusiasm and bringing in relevant ideas! I love to make connections to current events
-
I LOVE the word "relentless," how do you stay relentless in the face of challenges?
-
A1: My favourite descriptors were "kind and fun like a favourite aunt" and "funner" lol. Cute teens
-
A1: someone who cares and asks the right questions to spark curiosity
-
A1:,As someone invested in them through challenges and successes.
-
Encouraging our kidlets is so important!! Where do YOU turn when you need some inspiration?
-
Q1 Public Preschool T: ❤️ when they accidentally call me "mommy" means they feel loved, safe, and valued.
-
I'd like to be described as creative, understanding, caring, someone who manages to get all Ss to be engaged in the lesson
-
hi from Pittsburgh, A1 supportive, motivated, accessible, approachable, passionate, fun too, open to new ideas,
-
Enthusiasm gets you super far!! Where do you go to find your relevant ideas?
-
that can be tuff. I I stay open to Ss, you need start with clear communication.🖖
-
They can be hilarious!!! Who do you think has more fun in your class, you or the students? ;)
-
lately Twitter has been a big help, just have to find who to follow
-
Fantastic!! How do you know when you are asking the right questions?
-
We all face challenges. They are what define and refine what we do to support Ss in order to succeed.
-
I also think being relateable to students is soo important
-
A1 Engaged. A teacher scaffolds and encourages self regulated learning thru a meaning making context
-
Such a great word, "invested." What are some things you do to communicate that investment?
-
I like the 10 out of 10 at something. No ones good at everything but everyone is good at something. https://t.co/g2iCYdPORB
-
-
Depending on the day... a toss up usually both. They make me laugh so often. Love teaching middle schoolers!!!
-
Awww! Yes, that means that you are close to their mom in their mental schema!! AWWW! How do you make them feel safe?
-
A1 10 years ago students described me as "weird but you get used to it". Still wear that badge with pride, I know I can teach
-
A1: I want Ss to describe me as funny but caring. The one who took time out to listen to them outside of the classroom
-
-
-
-
Sometimes this is the best compliment https://t.co/J2IzkIzOnb
-
-
A1 10 years ago students described me as "weird but you get used to it". Still wear that badge with pride, I know I can teach
-
Nice! If a Tr was having a hard time engaging their Ss, what few words of wisdom would you share
-
They adapt to the weirdness and come to love it... and then we rub off on them ;)
-
Welcome!! All of these are awesome! How do you balance being approachable w/laying down the law?
-
A1: had a prof recently that I would describe as "exhaustingly positive". The positivity was also infectious, I try to be that.
-
What kind of things do you do at the beginning of the year to start off w/clear communication?
-
Let's have a quick chat after the twitterchat and I'll share my favorites with you ;)
-
I don't lay down the law... ever. Don't need to. I'm lucky that my Ss are so amazing! https://t.co/ct6fErd0ws
-
-
Welcome!! All of these are awesome! How do you balance being approachable w/laying down the law?
-
Great question, took time to find the right balance, growth over time, my own reflectn, build relatishps
-
lots of repetition and goofy things like scavenger hunts and memes to reinforce ideas
-
This is how we do it!!! https://t.co/cBVB0XqC7R
-
-
We all face challenges. They are what define and refine what we do to support Ss in order to succeed.
-
patience,to pay attention to Ss needs and knowledge that each one of them has,to try to build on that knowledge
-
What are some things you do to relate to the most challenging students?
-
A1: the one who cares about me & my future, the subject, eclectic, bigger picture, holistic, tenacious, nvr gives up
-
-
Weird = different and different is good.
The last thing Ss need is a cookie cutter educator. https://t.co/uL5kCsAJsW
-
-
They adapt to the weirdness and come to love it... and then we rub off on them ;)
-
Relationships are where it is AT!!! What things do you do in the beginning of the year to start off strong?
-
spend time getting to know Ss. Let them know expectations/let them tell you their expectations.
-
What are some of your go-to strategies/resources for making learning meaningful?
-
Ask questions, surveys, games, share summer stories, talk, focus on relatships first, then build
-
-
I try to pay attention. There are students you instantly connect to and then students that need detective work
-
-
-
-
-
Yes, Yes, and YES to High Expectations. What kinds of support do you give Ss to reach them?
-
Q2 coming up in a moment!
-
-
Bless you!! I taught 5th grade. I'm 5'-nothing, so the older kids were taller than me.
-
A1: Challenging. Real. Present. Invested.
-
comfort/time, teach prosocial behavior vs punish, prv encouragement, meet their level with gentle nudges forward
-
-
I hope you have that badge!! Do you follow or participate in ?
-
A2: I think humor is really important. I use humor to help ideas stick, especially with expectations... memes all the way!
-
I hear ya -when Ts come in my room they can never find me! I love that :)
-
"Passionate, shows us care, love and dedication, puts us first in every decision, values each of us."
https://t.co/TW2D3ebFUO
-
So important, & such a challenge. w/limited time & unlimited responsibilities. How do you reach out outside of class?
-
-
We're given a brilliant gift from all Sz. Sometimes they're more comfortable hiding their light at 1st. https://t.co/MvBOavk4aq
-
-
I try to pay attention. There are students you instantly connect to and then students that need detective work
-
A vital role, but only works when you know your students well.
Should also be able to laugh at yourself.
https://t.co/Y7BVtxT9X0
-
A2: Humour is everything to young teens. It can de-escalate major problems, social situations and can lift them up.
-
I feel more than when I was younger Ss needs emotional supports.🖖
-
Build relationships first, once they connect with you they engage https://t.co/3nxx9IRIbL
-
-
Nice! If a Tr was having a hard time engaging their Ss, what few words of wisdom would you share
-
Imagine how empowered that "weird" kid feels in your classes.
-
-
Yes. I teach grade 6.
How about you?
-
-
I think sarcasm requires you know them well first. But I'm all for joking just to help everyone relax
-
It's not always to stay positive - what do you do in those moments when you just want to be a grouch?
-
A2 use humor to help w/comfort,keep positive, can really help ease tension, nerves I try to make learning fun
-
A2 Humor that is respectful to all, draws a community together in a joyful, spontaneous human response
-
Humor is one of my favorite student engagement tools.
-
Good...because everyone knows that if you fight the law, the law wins ;) (JK)
-
they usually find me. But standing in the hallways &saying "hi" to them helps, and just being a sounding board.
-
A1 Kind, caring, fair and funny! Positive relationships are vital. I want them to know Miss has a growth mindset!
-
I LOVE me a good meme. Which is your most favorite meme that you've shared with ss?
-
When a group of Ss ran into my room (in costume) and yelled "Embrace the weird" a proud moment
-
Words of wisdome!! https://t.co/Jw33ruBAbe
-
-
patience,to pay attention to Ss needs and knowledge that each one of them has,to try to build on that knowledge
-
A2: keep things lite but don't go too far. Some may disagree but I don't feel like you need to "entertain".🖖
-
The word "tenacious" stands out. In what ways do your ss see you be tenacious?
-
it helps Ss and T to relax for a moment,it reduces stress in the classroom and helps Ss feel more free and be creative
-
How do you find patience in the most frustrating moments?
-
That's wild! How curious... definitely worth a family research assign.
-
Grumpy cat "how I look if you are talking when I'm talking" is a good one
-
-
...or a cookie cutter educatION!!!
-
I allow myself those moments but try not to let it affect my in class performance.🖖
-
Do you do anything special at the beginning of the year to start this idea off right?
-
A2: Do we start with the songs or dances? Don't do either well but it's funny and helps them remember. https://t.co/rEQgMD9FCR
-
What ways have you incorporated humor in your class? Need some ideas!
-
And when you know their strengths and encourage them, kids are connected, proud and effective learners. https://t.co/Bn2ukebns3
-
Ways to engage learners!! https://t.co/oUiDll2wgV
-
-
Ask questions, surveys, games, share summer stories, talk, focus on relatships first, then build
-
"Detective work" what a great way to put it!!! There is no negative connotation in this, it's all fun!
-
A2 Humour can make a child who came into sch unhappy smile. It makes learning memorable and engages learners.
-
I can't really answer, memes aren't my thing.🖖
-
If a teacher has having a hard time with showing that they respected their ss, what advice would you give?
-
"real" YES! Sometimes it's hard to be a role model! You can't fake enthusiasm, kids can smell it! :)
-
-
in expectations of them & their/ my own work ethic. They engage/ trust cos see the extra mile in class envnmnt
-
More words of wisdom (not dome) LOL! :) https://t.co/UUR0G8GYjA
-
-
comfort/time, teach prosocial behavior vs punish, prv encouragement, meet their level with gentle nudges forward
-
-
I think the best humour comes from a tight knit team that has shared adventures and shared understanding - it's organic
-
-
be interested learning who kids are outside of classroom.
-
Memes and Humor - combined for long-lasting learning! https://t.co/ZRztRVq9qh
-
-
A2: I think humor is really important. I use humor to help ideas stick, especially with expectations... memes all the way!
-
I would say students are humans. They deserve respect and need to be shown it, just based on their humanity.
-
Kids first is a HUGE passion of mine. What do you do when policies get in the way of that?
-
facilitates Ss engagement/ T relationship/ trust. Can't teach without relationships. Line tho to keep focus on learning
-
A2: Public moments when the group “gets” a T's humour are sweet b/c comfort level -- and little else -- washes away any anxiety.
-
