Our chat will focus on the idea that we can lead and make positive change from any position in our school systems. Leadership is not about a title, it is a way of thinking and acting.

A1 the message I would like to share is that we are working tirelessly to engage and empower our students to be lifelong learners, but we don’t use social media yet... #leadlap
I tried this out. Not sold on it but don't mind being a little vulnerable. I'm more old school as well but I've seen quite a few of these so I gave it a shot. #LISDchat
A1: Storytelling isn't about the tool, it's about the content. Imperative to tell the story of your school community or someone else will tell it for you and it might not be accurate. #leadlap
A1: Our social media story is about the relationships we have with our students and all the ways we strive to provide them with opportunities. #LeadLAP

Q1: Storytelling is timeless and a powerful way to engage stakeholders in the school/classroom. What is the story you are telling with social media? #LeadLAP
A1: We use our https://t.co/9UKGQUz25d even more this year! For all the awesomeness, PBIS reward recipients, Student of month, events, reminders, most important are the photos of Ss! Families want to see their children's smiling faces & learn abt what they're working on. #LeadLAP
A1: I try to use social media to share @DartmouthHS story. A story of excellent students, faculty & community members & programs! I celebrate our progress & our focus on improving core instruction, empowering ppl & relationships!#leadlap
A1: Lead in a way where your fears are nothing more than a mere hurdle, highlight the awesomeness of students and staff, and to #brandourgreen throughout the community with positivity, encouragement, and service! #LeadLAP
I challenged myself to read all the tweets that came from Alaskan Educators for a year...
My heart is full of joy and hope from all the incredible things that they shared!
https://t.co/FkDUIwD2sC#tlap#leadlap#culturize#akedchat
A1 we are using social media to celebrate successes, connect with others, and open a window to our classroom. Would love to start using it to ask questions and be curious as well #leadlap
A1: Our story celebrates kids and learning as well as all our awesome staff working and having fun learning as well. Our families mainly take advantage of our FB and webpage but we focus it to show the great learning that is taking place that is not just about a test. #leadlap
A1:) Our social media stories show the world that SPED kids are just kids. They are as creative and inventive and incredible as any other kids. A kid is a kid is a kid.#leadlap#spedchat
A4 The same learning goals can be achieved through social media (engagement, reflection etc.). We use @Seesaw to share work with families, and 4th graders get so excited to see a new notification from a family member on work they posted. #leadLAP
A1: If we don’t tell our story, someone else will! We are doing amazing things and so we want our families and community to be involved in the awesomeness! #LeadLap
A1.2—More important than my use of SM though are the many @DartmouthHS Faculty members who have used it to offer multiple viewpoints into our school. We have teachers from nearly every dept. & many different programs who have embraced it offering a mosaic of excellence! #leadlap
A2: Ss run YouTube channel streams live events for the school community. Ss practice authentic skills and share their voice. https://t.co/CPObMqZySm#MediaCrew#LeadLap
A2: We have a Facebook page, and many teachers have closed Facebook groups that show parents what learning happens everyday! I would love to expand this! #leadlap
A2: Again, a great way to share in social communication with families is to share the Twitter Feed with students and parents and ask them to contribute and follow. #LeadLAP
A2: I really try to explain that they can see what goes on in our classroom and be more involved virtually. Many parents have commented that they were able to strike up conversation with their kids over things they saw on my Twitter #leadlap
A2 we share our # and promote our social media sites. We encourage teachers, students and parents to post using our #. We have a long ways to go to get this to the level we would like but we are on our way. #Leadlap
A2: Feature it on your website. Incorporate it into your parent nights. @DurhamMS is doing a cool recognition of kids that make positive posts. #LeadLap
A2 right we use things like #remind and google classroom. I know some Ts have closed fb groups. Baby steps. I know we are working on school fb site. #LeadLAP
A2: We have a school hashtag on Twitter, Facebook & Instagram that is used to promote all of the positive things happening within our school, amongst our sports teams, etc. Next year, I would like to extend into using it for family engagement (posing questions, etc.)
#LeadLAP
A2: Meet them where they are at (platform).
Empower students to be social media ambassadors running the school account or using the school hashtag in the community.
See #gocrickets from @Joe_Sanfelippo as a model #leadlap
#leadlap a couple years ago, I started by putting my classroom blog up on the smart board during parent teacher conferences so they could see what their child had been up to! (Even though I had been sending weekly emails, many saw it for the first time then!)
A1: Telling the story of great technology integration in my region & beyond via #cvtechtalk, spreading awareness for CS by launching #CSforCV, slaying stories of EduLeaders with #siteleadsconnect#LeadLAP
Q1: Storytelling is timeless and a powerful way to engage stakeholders in the school/classroom. What is the story you are telling with social media? #LeadLAP
A2: I publish my social media info in our monthly newsletter & have an awesome @CCMS_PSP president who retweets & posts on the PSP FB page. I also collect all of our tweets from the week & create a collection on @wakelet that I publish every Friday for parents & staff! #LeadLAP
A2- We encourage Ps to share photos with us to share, we have classroom pages for class specific announcements photos, Still working on getting Social Media Interns up and running to give Ss more voice! #LeadLAP
A2: I also wonder if the answer to this question needs to consider those families who may not have access to technology to be able to engage in social media #LeadLAP
A2: I put links on all our fliers and remind them at any school event. I remind them their child may not always bring the information to them but we always have it posted online and on FB. #leadlap
First- make that important class/school account. Invite them to engage. Include them in challenges like #gratitudesnaps Empower to expand the conversation. #LeadLAP
We do monthly newsletters with student articles and videos. This helps the students have ownership and gives them opportunity to be involved. Parents love seeing their kids too! #LeadLAP
A2: I dabbled in SeeSaw with my kinders this year, but I had a hard time getting parents to use the platform to interact with their students. Only 50% participation. It is a goal to increase that next year. #LeadLAP
A2: We have been wanting to explore the use of Social Media Interns with our Ss . With families we share our Twitter handle as often as we can. We also have a Twitter feed on our website. Those that follow really enjoy it, but we’d like more on board. #LeadLap
A1b: our https://t.co/9UKGQUz25d has also been a great way for Ps to reach out to us w/any questions they have, by sending inbox messages..even when https://t.co/DdBbzp4p6p not in session. Great communication. :) #leadlap
A2: we have posters in our schools listing the various ways including Insta, FB, Twitter, and Remind. Our twitter feeds are often embedded in our websites and we constantly promote the various ways to try and reach everyone #leadlap
A2: We have a school hashtag to use on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to highlight positive things within the school, amongst the sports teams, etc. I would like to use social media to increase family engagement next year (pose questions, share fun family ideas, etc.).
#LeadLAP
A2:We have a full time Family Liaisons at every school they help with so much. Each site has. FB page as do many school PTAs. I try to model and encourage leaders to develop PLNs and to share their school’s good news! #LeadLAP
Love having a video to communicate your school's story! Great idea & has my wheels turning about what this would look like for our school. 🤔We've used @Flipgrid as a "Welcome Back!" way to communicate to all of our Ss & families. All staff recorded their own message. #LeadLAP
A2: @Seesaw is great for young students. School hashtags are a great way to promote your school or district. @LakotaSuper does a great job at this https://t.co/2J5HsNQava
🎥 Insight Interview: Matt Miller - Embracing Teacher & Student Voice ...
#LeadLAP
A2: Not social media per se, but we are in the process of developing a news program for our building using @padcaster. Goal is to promote the wins from @Simmonsknights1 for non-tech savvy families or those that are not currently connected via social media. #LeadLAP
A2: At the start of the year our great librarian @LibrarianMsL lead 2 Pd sessions to help a number of our faculty members create a twitter account. In addition our leadership team has embraced it modeling the power & importance for our faculty! #leadlap
Love having a video to communicate your school's story! Great idea & has my wheels turning about what this would look like for our school. 🤔We've used @Flipgrid as a "Welcome Back!" way to communicate to all of our Ss & families. All staff recorded their own message. #LeadLAP
I sent out videos every morning to my 3rd and 4th graders taking the MAP test & they LOVED IT!!! I’m gonna g to continue with all my students to end the year on a fun note! #LeadLap
A1: I use social media in very different ways. My Instagram account (@bhs_hooks) is the story of my students, my school, and my love of reading. My twitter account is the story of me as an educator and a learner. #leadLAP
Last semester I had my students compete in a contest to create my hashtag that would be used forever....they really got into it. They voted and the winner was #breistory (I teach history)
A2.2: Allowing Ss to take control of the @Simmonsknights1 twitter account is a great way to promote good choices and digital citizenship. Looking for a way to incorporate Student Ambassadors in the task of telling our story. #LeadLAP
A2: Been talking with @techcoachjuarez about creating a session called "Grow Your Hashtag", to discuss how we learned to meet people where they are at. 1 social media platform is not enough. Leverage multiple ways for people to connect with you. #LeadLAP
A2.2 Also use Smores to include our school’s twitter handle as well as the signature line of my email & embed school & my Twitter feed in our school’s website! #leadlap
A2: We have schl Twitter & FB pgs, also have schl & district hashtags. We mention our https://t.co/9UKGQUz25d w/parents at events/meetings. Show them the pages, & inform them of what we post, describe how we post many pics of fun/awesomeness, & how Ss LOVE the pics too! #LeadLAP
My action research centers around Twitter as a form of professional learning. I’ve noticed far more Elementary folks engage in Twitter than Secondary. Would love to know what people think about why. #IMMOOC#KidsDeserveIt#tlap#leadlap#PrincipalsinAction#lisdchat
Q3: George Couros writes that social media enhances face to face communication rather than prohibits it. Share how you have seen this impact in your work. #LeadLAP
We've found that our parents mainly use Facebook and our older students use Instagram & Snapchat. Not too many use Twitter at this time, but the number is growing each week.
#LeadLAP
Q3: George Couros writes that social media enhances face to face communication rather than prohibits it. Share how you have seen this impact in your work. #LeadLAP
A2: Our school hashtag #TMGenius has been a powerful tool to build community & empower Ss & families to get involved. I also use @SmorePages for weekly family newsletters, @Flipgrid to send out prompts so Ss can have a voice. #LeadLAP
A3- Ps and others often comment about photos from events or other posts and it opens a dialogue! I had as S bring me chocolate because he read my daily message about chocolate making me happy! It opens the door to make connections & build relationships #LeadLAP
A3: From an inexperienced perspective, social media allows students to express themselves without having to be "formal" in presentation. While some may shy away from showing ideas in class, social media allows them to open up in a different way. #LeadLAP
Agreed! When I used only a Twitter account for our school site, it rarely get traffic. Once I began posting on Facebook, I would hear parents after school discuss what the pics they saw on this platform. #LeadLAP
A3: I think being transparent on social media demystifies school for parents. Shows how inviting and exciting it is and can be. They feel more comfortable coming to school #LeadLAP
Social media changes the question from "What did you do today?" to "Tell me more about...". Such a powerful conversation to have with kids and staff. #LeadLAP
Great way to empower ownership of the hashtag through a naming contest :) It does get harder and harder to create new ones that aren’t already in use #leadlap
Q3: George Couros writes that social media enhances face to face communication rather than prohibits it. Share how you have seen this impact in your work. #LeadLAP
We re-did our tech lab this year so that it shifted from classroom to community space. Advertising this on social media led to families stopping in to check it out #LeadLAP
Q3: George Couros writes that social media enhances face to face communication rather than prohibits it. Share how you have seen this impact in your work. #LeadLAP
A3: We have more and more teachers and our clubs creating pages for parents to follow what is going on. I also enjoy the occasional live feed such as when our choir sang the national anthem at our Baylor Lady Bears game. Sic ‘em #leadlap
A3: I love following our teachers from our building teachers to not only be inspired by them, but to provide my own insight to help grow the product that is being developed in the classrooms of @Simmonsknights1. #LeadLAP
Q3: George Couros writes that social media enhances face to face communication rather than prohibits it. Share how you have seen this impact in your work. #LeadLAP
A3: Social media can be a great tool to share instructional and informational videos. Student can use it to access class content. Parents and community members can use it to watch videos that articulate key school wide and grade level announcements #LeadLAP
A3: at their best, students need to navigate face to face spaces, digital spaces, and be able to integrate both (knowing when to engage in each) #3DLeads#leadLAP
A3: I have gotten to know students better through their interactions on our school Twitter account. It is great to recognize students who are sharing and posting things about our school while being quiet at school. Every voice counts! #LeadLAP
A3: That is interesting. In some cases, soclal media provides a sense of "knowing and familiarity" with someone that can break the ice. In others, it may allow for engagement from afar, which is preferable to some. #LeadLAP
A3. So many parents and kids comment verbally to me about the posts they’ve seen on social media. They love it. When kids see me taking pics they ask if I’m posting it on insta. #LeadLAP
A3: When students see pictures or comments, they come to class and talk about books I’ve read or about celebrations. Colleagues stop by and ask about lessons and activities. Social media sparks the conversation that might not have happened otherwise. #leadLAP
A3 It's essier to engage with strangers on line. Grow the relationship, then f2f meeting is like a huge Christmas present with hugs and squeals. #LeadLAP
A3 now with a school hashtag we can have meaningful conversations about the awesome happening in classrooms and brainstorm ways to keep it going. #leadlap
A3: I think that our social media presence has served as a conversation starter for us throughout the last couple school years. It has enhanced communication in so many ways! Parents appreciate the opportunity to see and know what is happening during the day! #LeadLAP
Q3: George Couros writes that social media enhances face to face communication rather than prohibits it. Share how you have seen this impact in your work. #LeadLAP
A3 I recognize more parents from profile pictures, I also have had more compliments from parents in person thanking us for posting our story, I also feel it has broken down barriers as an informal way to communicate #LeadLAP
A3: I first contacted @gcouros via Twitter to arrange for him to come to first ever #techrodeo, thereby using social media to later establish an IRL (in real life) connection. I meet people IRL at conferences I have previously made connections with via social media. #LeadLAP
Q3: George Couros writes that social media enhances face to face communication rather than prohibits it. Share how you have seen this impact in your work. #LeadLAP
A3: Yes! Not only does it help us to connect with people outside across the globe (many who we’ve had a chance to meet in person) it also has given me a glimpse of the School days and event at schools and colleagues in my District and area. Conversation builder. #Leadlap
Q3: George Couros writes that social media enhances face to face communication rather than prohibits it. Share how you have seen this impact in your work. #LeadLAP
a3 When I go to a conference, I take a second look at sessions led by someone who is helpful & responsive online. It's more than a show for them. #leadlap
A3: Social media can allow parents a glimpse of the learning in classrooms, activities throughout the school day & after school, events, etc... at the school to which they may not have privy in the past. Schools do amazing work - our community needs to know about it!
#LeadLAP
A3. Standing in line 2 pay for gas and and the women behind me starts a conversation regaurding something she saw on our FB page. She doesn’t have any kids, but likes what’s happening at the school. Stakeholders are always watching. #IncreasePublicConfidence#LeadLAP@gcouros
Q3: George Couros writes that social media enhances face to face communication rather than prohibits it. Share how you have seen this impact in your work. #LeadLAP
A2: I LOVE being doing our https://t.co/9UKGQUz25d, but also have to be considerate of our families who don't have computers/internet. Most of our followers use phones. Important to continue w/multiple means to meet everyone where they're at. #LeadLAP
A3: It’s definitely a conversation starter! So many see me in public and comment about all they see happening via our social media. It also gives parents talking points at night with less than talkative (at time) teens. #LeadLAP
A3: If not for being connected, I wouldn't have as many great edufriends as I do. SM allows me to have better conversations when we do get F2F #LeadLAP
#leadlap Alaska is pretty spread out and it’s been neat to recognize names and places a lot more when I read the news or read name tags at conferences. It gives me a small connection to their world.
A3b. We use FB to showcase to the parents what their kids are learning. Instagram to get kids excited about our school and twitter to tell our school story to our colleagues in our district. #LeadLAP
A3: Parents can easily go to our social media to see times for events from their phone and be more likely to come to our face to face events. For those who can’t, we give them a virtual experience by posting pics and videos. #leadlap
A3: Increase in conversations about the things that people see posted (parents - pics that might include their child or info about upcoming events, students - pics of themselves in action). I am engaged in conversations daily about info/resources I find on Twitter!
#LeadLAP
The use of social media in education is no longer an option, it's necessity. It's our reality. It's one of our students' main methods of expression. By showing the benefits, engaging the community, and modeling appropriate posts (digital citizenship), others will follow #LeadLAP
A3: Our hashtag builds bonds between staff. It’s impossible to get a birds-eye view from each classroom in person, but through @Twitter our walls are broken down. We also share fantabulous Pd resources! #LeadLAP
A3: I've done a staff twitter chat for the past two school years and I believe that social media conversation promotes school culture and community because many of us would never have the time to connect about the awesomeness happening in classroom during the school day #LeadLAP
Q3 It breaks down that initial wall to the school. People then know what is going on. It isn't a mystery. Then can ask follow-up questions or congratulation #LeadLAP
A3-Parents love seeing what their kids are learning & sharing it with others proudly. All that have shared the learning experience via social media are more apt to come in & be a part of it, thus greatly enhancing face to face communication. #LeadLAP
How do we bring students along who don’t have access to social media? They will get more and more left behind. That’s a big concern for me, given the truth of your statement #LeadLap
A3: Our hashtag builds bonds between staff. It’s impossible to get a birds-eye view from each classroom in person, but through @Twitter our walls are broken down. We also share fantabulous Pd resources! #LeadLAP
A4- SM helps share our stories. Builds relationships, promotes the positives, conversation starters, keeps everyone informed and connected! Do it TODAY! #LeadLAP
A4: in today’s world you have to be relevant and reach stakeholders where they are. Start with one platform: Smore or Remind text messages for example #leadlap
A4: If you are reluctant to use social media in the classroom, don't be! It is a wonderful tool for learning and productivity, and a modern way to engage our students where they are. #LeadLAP
A4: you have expertise in face to face interactions that students need. Students and others have expertise in social media spaces you need. Why not engage and collaborate so all are better off? #leadlap#3DLeads
A4: Find a team to run a social media site to connect with your school and community. If all team members promote their passion, the results will be inspiring, contagious, and not overwhelm one person. #LeadLAP
Q4 Maximize your communication tools! We need to spread our message on every channel - social media is one of many ways to do that. And you will miss some if you don't. #LeadLAP
A3: I work at the district level and try to Tweet about specific initiatives from my department such as PBIS. I get positive verbal feedback about my Tweets. It sparks face-to-face conversation #LEADLAP
A4b- so sad my home district is so worried about what could happen- they don't allow school/group FB pages. ONE district page... and we have lack of communication and now parents creating their own pages... it's frustrating... #LeadLAP
A4: Social media poses extraordinary dangers to our students when used inappropriately. The social and emotional ramifications to online bullying are destructive. The solution is not to run away from it. We must model how to use it effectively if we expect to see change #LeadLAP
A3. Standing in line 2 pay for gas and and the women behind me starts a conversation regarding something she saw on our FB page.
#LeadLAP
A3: SM can provide folks w/a common experience that can be discussed even if both parties weren’t present to experience it in person. Can also share ideas and values that contribute to the on-going discourse within your school! #leadlap
A4: I did not understand educational power of social media, namely Twitter, at first. But now I can't work without it. Instant access to experts from across the globe. Then I guide them to https://t.co/Xw81upYGgt for more info, step by step webinar w/@techcoachjuarez. #LeadLAP
A4: Social media has enabled me to to grow as an educator. It exposes me to new people, new ideas and pushes me to expand my world view. My students benefit from that. By sharing from my classroom, it opens doors to families who may not have another way in. Its all good. #LeadLAP
A4: There is more to the world than the four walls of your classroom. Connect with other classrooms, leaders, teachers, innovators that will give your students an experience with greater depth that we could never accomplish on our own. We are #BetterTogether. #LeadLAP
A4 we’re in education to impact Ss as much as absolutely possible. When we have an open door to learning, sharing, connecting, & growing it’s our responsibility to walk right in. #leadlap
A4: Start small. Choose a social media platform and play with it. Follow people and see how they use it. Then figure out what your purpose for using it will be. Have fun!
#LeadLAP
A3: Social media allows everyone to be a part of telling the story. No longer do we have one microphone being held by one leader. We ALL help make the positive SO LOUD! YES! #LeadLAP
A3: It does enhance communication for many! For Ss I've seen shy Ss open up w/ #FlipgridFever or google apps, for Ts we will be communicating w/ author of our #KidsDeserveIt book study @awelcome via g-hangouts! #LeadLAP
A4: Our message needs to go to where our audience is located. Flyers are not what our audience look for. They are on twitter, facebook, instagram, etc. We are in a digital world where the mass majority has access to technology and use it. #LeadLAP
I see their ramped up anxiety as a need to also model self-regulation of thoughts, feelings, and responses. Many are not aware they can control their intense feelings by rewiring responses because media suggests they can't. #LeadLAP
A4 we’re in education to impact Ss as much as absolutely possible. When we have an open door to learning, sharing, connecting, & growing it’s our responsibility to walk right in. #leadlap
Best advice I got in education was to get on Twitter. Without a doubt, I wouldn't be done the things I am without it. Took my practice to a whole new level. #LeadLAP
A4: I did not understand educational power of social media, namely Twitter, at first. But now I can't work without it. Instant access to experts from across the globe. Then I guide them to https://t.co/Xw81upYGgt for more info, step by step webinar w/@techcoachjuarez. #LeadLAP
A4: Go for it! We were afraid at first, too, but if you aren't telling your story. . . who is? It's an opportunity to show parents & community all the awesome things going on within your school and individual classrooms on a daily basis. Show them what they can't see!
#LeadLAP
A4.2: Was speaking to a group of 7th Graders yesterday and asked them, "Who is writing your narrative? Who do you have holding the pen?" If we are not sharing what we are doing, somebody else will fill that gap for us. #LeadLAP
A4: A message is being communicated about you, your classroom, your school.... Who is leading that conversation? You or outsiders? We need to make sure WE are sharing OUR stories! #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A4 Whether using Facebook, Seesaw, or twitter, many parents are now past paper notes. They want to be able to like or comment instantly or at their own time. Connect in different ways.
A4: I was not an early adopter to social media! I had concerns about all those "negative" things that could happen. But, the value & the benefits have FAR outweighed the concerns. It has been a better professional learning experience for me than I could ever have hoped. #LeadLAP
A4:) Establishing social media accounts and feeds serves as proof of engagement and academics for SPED teachers. It’s not a pretty answer, but it’s a bonus in an age of lawsuits and blame. #leadlap
I would encourage them to start small. That’s how I started. Just “lurking” on chats. Then it’s inevitable to want to participate. And the learning experience is awesome!!! #LeadLAP
A4 I try to show people how it has made an impact on me personally as a professional, I reference it a lot when presenting new ideas and invite teachers to chats. I also talk about the positive comments our parents make about what they see on our SM #Leadlap
A4: Be a pirate leader by asking "How can I help you?" Show them how you use your https://t.co/9UKGQUz25d. Offer to help them set up their account by walking them through the process. Share your enthusiasm & give them ideas on usage! Show them how much Ss love it! 😊#leadlap
A3: Our hashtag builds bonds between staff. It’s impossible to get a birds-eye view from each classroom in person, but through @Twitter our walls are broken down. We also share fantabulous Pd resources! #LeadLAP
A4 Socisl media is the best way to up your educator game! The connections and learning snd sharing are invaluable! You MUST grow beyond site/district PLN. #LeadLAP
A4: I would show them instead of tell them. I would show how you can connect and learn from so many awesome educators and one of those awesome leaders like @burgess_shelley might even push you to write a blog for her #LeadLAP blog.
A4b I have also shared chats with people that I know they would have an interest in. Shar resources I’ve gotten from twitter and let them know where I’ve gotten them #Leadlap
A4: Don’t miss the opportunity to empower your positive message through social media. It’s a tool when used correctly can be transformational in the best game changing way. Retro quote: Hate the player not the game. #LeadLAP#SocialLEADia
#LeadLAP Question- Those of you with school hashtags...do you have just one or multiple? We are just using one but I’m thinking we need at least 2, one for Ts to share PL ideas and another for parents/community to share the great things happening at school. Thoughts?
Sorry so in and out this morning! Great job @PrincipalDodge1 I will check later...off to daughter’s first softball experience and then headed to Fenway😬 #leadlap
A4: Social Media is here to stay & its where our students & their parents are! We know like any tool social media can be used responsibly or irresponsibly, how can we help our students understand this if we aren’t in the arena? #leadlap
A5:Twitter because I want to be rescued! I only have 14 followers on Instagram. 8 on Snapchat. FB friends might save me, but I'm not sure these days. #LeadLAP
#leadlap Imagine you had the ability to simultaneously see all the hopes, fears, and excitement from educators across Alaska! Social media is that ability to connect, listen, and share to others you didnt know you had connections with.
A5: On a desert island with one social media too, I'd choose Twitter. Though I was anti-Twitter for the longest time, I had to learn to use it as part of my Principal's Qualification course. I love being able to connect with educators from around the world. #leadlap
A6: For me Twitter but if I think about it I couldn’t choose because which ever ONE I chose I feel like I’d loose contact with one generation of people I love or another. Hope that makes sense #LeadLAP
A5: HAHA! I pick Twitter! I can access just about everything from there...And I can communicate with almost our entire school since they have such a great presence there! #LeadLAP#FalconPride#FalconFamily
A5:Twitter because I want to be rescued! I only have 14 followers on Instagram. 8 on Snapchat. FB friends might save me, but I'm not sure these days. #LeadLAP
A4: As an educator, social media has allowed me to grow and learn from others outside of my immediate circle. It has also allowed me the opportunity to communicate and share widely and broadly. #LEADLAP
A5: Twitter. It's where my friends live. I know that sounds depressing, but in the past year +, I have made so many deep and meaningful connections that have made me a better teacher and leader. #LeadLAP
A5: I would be content with Facebook on a desert island. This would allow me to be "close" to all my family and friends. I would miss my PLN dearly (Maybe I could get your Facebook "handle" before I left so we could still stay in touch! Ha! Ha!). ;o)
#LeadLAP
A5: That's tough... I love ALL of my digital tools, each for different reasons. BUT... Twitter would be have to be my #1. Love how my #PLN pushes me to be better while being supportive when things fail. #LeadLAP
Hi Teri! We started with one for our district, but our school and teams have started some of their own! I also made a list on Twitter with all our staff so they can find each other easily by subscribing to the list instead of hunting through their timeline. #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP Question- Those of you with school hashtags...do you have just one or multiple? We are just using one but I’m thinking we need at least 2, one for Ts to share PL ideas and another for parents/community to share the great things happening at school. Thoughts?
A6: I really liked the "bingo" style board that I saw all over twitter last summer that kept staff/students engaged by sharing the things they did during the summer! #LEADLAP
A5- It depends- if I want to stay on the island or not. Right now that sounds pretty good. If not, I would choose FB because that is where I post my happenings with family and friends. Twitter- I most reserve for more reflective ness and learning as an educator. #leadlap
A5: Twitter. I am always learning from the amazing people who post; my practice has been impacted. As a school leader, it allows me to communicate small pieces of information often. As a parent, I appreciate the brevity of tweets. Sometimes, newsletters are just too long!#LeadLAP
A6: I send out periodic newsletters and tweets of work going on in the school. We have a lot of summer programs so I see many families. I invite them to school for events and also do read alouds on @YouTube to connect with kids #LeadLAP
A6: We are fortunate to have two new additions being built at our school this summer. I'll be tweeting out photos of the ongoing construction! #leadlap
A6: Hmmm... What if there was a challenge question for students each week, or a chat, or if they could submit learnings from a book they are reading during the break? #LeadLAP
A6: summer is a great time to highlight students and families who might not normally be centered in our communications. How can we step out of the box? #leadLAP
It started with snow day read alouds but now I do it on vacations and and 2 or 3 times during the summer. I also try to open our library for the kids when I can #LeadLAP
A6: I’ll use social media to update on progress to renovations to our library media center, the creation of our maker space/innovation area, other summer projects etc. We will also use it to build excitement around orientation day & cookout! #leadlap
A6:) I am not. Don’t kick me out. This summer I’ll be getting better acquainted with tons of tech and media options; this will determine what’s the best way to communicate with my parents and kids. #leadlap
A6 @IndigoProgram has both twitter and facebook accounts. Most of our families follow facebook. We post summer park days where community members can come together anc connect & new families can establish relationships. #leadlap
So you upload them to @youtube and then post those on your school facebook page? Sounds like a fun way to keep kids engaged to their "safe place" during the summer when many are craving that school connection. #LeadLAP
Question; who leads at a school with social media? Are they being paid to do this or do we expect them to volunteer? The answer to this question speaks to how important it is to your school. Just sayin’ #leadLAP
A5: Wow, it would be difficult to choose one SM if stranded on a desert island. I use Twitter professionally and Facebook for personal use. Do I continue to grow as a professional or do I stay connected with family and friends?? :-) #LEADLAP
A6: I'm pretty addicted to Twitter PD (ask @RackleyNate), so I tend to still share ideas, find inspiration, & tweet a lot. I also start sharing what summer happenings & information about the new school year (i.e., school supplies, info about health forms, dates, etc.). #LeadLAP
A6. By following our surrounding communities social media pages we will continue to share and support their events, so that parents still know that we are here and part of the community. #LeadLAP
A5: My phone/twitter! So much amazing stuff to learn about and read about out there! I truly appreciate the power of being connected and of a #PLN. #leadlap
I actually send out a notification that I'm doing it live at a certain time, so join me using the URL. But if they can't make it, they have the link to watch it at any time #LeadLAP
So you upload them to @youtube and then post those on your school facebook page? Sounds like a fun way to keep kids engaged to their "safe place" during the summer when many are craving that school connection. #LeadLAP
A6: I offer weekly mini-lessons via @Seesaw. Students can log in, chat, post how their summer is going, learn a new skill to prepare for new grade, review previous skills from previous grade #leadlap
Remember Tuckmans Model of Group development when engaging online. Lots of folx in the forming stage. People get excited. Problems come and we need to Prepare for online storming in any social media community. #leadLAP#norming#performing
