A1: Vertical and horizontal articulation of curricula eliminates gaps, redundancies and misalignments. #admin2b
  • BrianDunleavy16 Nov 19 @ 8:07 PM EST
Vertical alignment helps continued growth and horizontal alignment helps ensure rigor and fullness of learning for students. It also helps teachers to best support each other’s initiatives. #admin2b

#admin2b Hi all - Toni Hook, Teacher at EES - looking forward to learning with you!
  • Mr_S_EES Nov 19 @ 8:08 PM EST
#admin2b A1 - it is important to be horizontally aligned to ensure collaboration and consistency. It is important to be vertically aligned to build on previously learned skills and to understand where our students have been and where they are going.
  • JPassItOn - Moderator Nov 19 @ 8:09 PM EST
One of my favorite things to study is how literature reflects the cultures and people of the time and how those themes reoccur in our world #admin2b
  • Kroptavich Nov 19 @ 8:10 PM EST
A1: proper vertical & horizontal curricular alignment helps ensure instructional equity no matter what classroom our students find themselves in our district. #admin2b
  • JPassItOn - Moderator Nov 19 @ 8:11 PM EST
Q2: What gets in the way of curriculum alignment efforts in schools? #admin2b
  • GenieneD - Moderator Nov 19 @ 8:12 PM EST

  • MiriamCheuk - Moderator Nov 19 @ 8:13 PM EST
A2: Some obstacles of curriculum alignment: curriculum, instruction and assessment are not always well aligned. Assessment data is not well analyzed. Formative assessments might be infrequent. Teams don't have enough time to meet and align curriculum. #admin2b
  • MiriamCheuk - Moderator Nov 19 @ 8:13 PM EST
    Lol thanks #admin2b
  • GenieneD - Moderator Nov 19 @ 8:14 PM EST
A1. Now that I'm looking at WL curriculum, the vertical alignment is critical for attaining proficiency goals. @actfl #actfl18 #admin2b
  • JPassItOn - Moderator Nov 19 @ 8:15 PM EST
Q3: In what ways can leadership teams support and advance curriculum alignment? #admin2b
  • JPassItOn - Moderator Nov 19 @ 8:15 PM EST
A2: Saying “we all teach common core” gets in the way. If you are in the classroom, you know this doesn’t lead to true alignment. There are too many standards to teach to mastery. We have to decide on the essentials and create logical progression #admin2b
  • Mr_S_EES Nov 19 @ 8:17 PM EST
    #admin2b A3 collaboration and calibration
  • Kroptavich Nov 19 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2: Teacher autonomy may get in the way of proper curricular alignment. Instruction must coincide with mutually agreed upon (and board approved) curriculum, regardless of personal preference. However, the methods used may be chosen based on individual preference/skill. #admin2b
  • Kroptavich Nov 19 @ 8:17 PM EST
Good to see you as well, Geniene! #admin2b

  • MiriamCheuk - Moderator Nov 19 @ 8:19 PM EST
a3: Leaders need to provide staff development and common planning time to support and advance curriculum alignment. During those meetings, teachers are to plan using a backward design/best strategies for reaching all learners in delivering instruction & assessments. #admin2b
  • GenieneD - Moderator Nov 19 @ 8:19 PM EST
A3. Curriculum work must be facilitates by the building admin. However, if you hired the right teachers, lead your lead teachers in the work. They need to own it. #admin2b
  • JPassItOn - Moderator Nov 19 @ 8:22 PM EST
A3: Time must be devoted to this, even if it comes at the cost of other, seemingly more exciting or reactive things. #admin2b
  • Kroptavich Nov 19 @ 8:23 PM EST
A3: Leaders can support collaboration toward any team goal by providing common planning time and ensuring teams are able to function as one unit. Being present at these times to promote and/or model healthy team norms is essential to the collaborative process. #admin2b
  • JPassItOn - Moderator Nov 19 @ 8:25 PM EST
