Welcome! Please remember to use Q1/A1 format and add #dojochat to your tweets! Please introduce yourselves, tell us the who, what, and where about you!!
Good evening all! My name is Rachel Ciambriello and I am an education student at Lesley University in Massachusetts! I am so excited to be here!
#dojochat
A1 I host class meetings, read aloud books that focus on the skills we need to work on, model the behaviors needed for a positive classroom community, help everyone feel a part of things with ClassDojo ๐ #dojochat
I model praise and positivity. I am always looking for children to reward for good behavior. They know when the phone comes out, Mrs. Arena is ready to give green points! #dojochat
A1 I do not have a classroom yet, but I always enter my internship with a smile on my face! Smiling is contagious! In my future classroom, I would like to enforce the no "I cant" rule. #dojochat
A#1: We do a big beginning of the year launch around โHave you filled a bucket todayโ. Each student has an actual bucket and we write notes to each other throughout the year. #dojochat
A1 I don't mean to over-simplify things, but you gotta actually BE POSITIVE. You can't expect your kids to believe in all that they can achieve - if you don't think they can achieve it. #dojochat
A1: To promote positivity, we get to know one another well. This helps us be empathetic and welcoming toward one another. We also celebrate successes, even small ones. Even when revising papers, we always give both things we love as well as what to work on. #dojochat

A1: I foster positivity in my clsssroom through displaying student work on the class and student stories, sending parents messages about our family meetings, and of course rewarding behavior with positive points! #dojochat
A1 You gotta SQUASH all negativity and despite the fact that I am 100% AWESOME at it -- you gotta kill sarcasm like it is POISON because IT IS!!! Save the "sick burns" for your family!!! #dojochat
A2 I don't complain, find the good in the bad aka rainy day recess = GoNoodle recess! ๐ Plus a LOT of YET statements, helping students change their language, but also using those statements myself #dojochat
A2: I think the best way to foster being a positive role model is to be one yourself. Always modeling expected behaviors, the type of talk to have to others. I believe family (class meetings) are a key way to display role model abilities to your class. #dojochat
A2: I use think alouds a lot. I model choices I made that maybe werenโt the most positive and have them help me think of better choices. Seeing that I am imperfect by highlighting my right and responsibility to choose my reaction has made a difference! #dojochat
A2: I give compliments, explicitly describe when I see a friend being kind and why it's kind, and Ts are always coming in w questions so Ss see me helping and interacting positively. #dojochat
A2: I am a positive role model by modeling how to use words to solve problems with my students. I also try to make sure I touch base with everyone every day to show them I am listening and I care. #dojochat
A2 I model a growth mindset (Iโm really good at making mistakes...lol) I show compassion, and celebrate with others...I practice what I preach. #dojochat
A2: I am a positive role model by reading, reading, reading and telling my students about it! I also show them when I have trouble or make mistakes and how I get through it. #dojochat
A2 I have an interesting role as a pre practicum student at my placement. I model good behavior as I observe and take part in the class because I am not in the teacher role just yet. My students understand I am learning just as much as them. I stay engaged and excited #dojochat

Yes! When an Ss is having a particularly hard day or two, I make an effort to touch base. With 25 kids in my room and busy days I have to remind myself to stop, breathe, and connect with my Ss #dojochat
HI #dojochat! My name is Emily and I am a student at UT Tyler (in Texas). I am in the education program in the hopes of being a physical education teacher/coach.
A3: COMPLIMENT, just like students, our coworkers like to hear positive feedback as well! Sometimes the smallest gestures makes the biggest impression on the people around you! #dojochat
A3 when you hear that nN at the lunch table? Be the change. If you can't, leave the convo. Surprise teammates with coffee or treats just cuz, do the little things that would mean the world to YOU for others (like watching their class so they can run to the bathroom LOL) #dojochat
A3: This was a hard one for me today (I had a rough day) but my assistant always know how to make me laugh so that way I can make it through the day. So I will say make 'em laugh even when their day is a rough one! #dojochat
A3: We all have trying days, but if we give into negativity it sets the tone. There is no perfect school or method, something will always make you unhappy, but take baby steps and focus on the minor victories. #dojochat
A3: I encourage positivity by trying to make the workplace fun... and by bringing treats! I also try to find a positive in a situation as much as possible. My team is great so we don't need to try too hard with this one! #dojochat
A3: Our principal exudes positivity so it reigns supreme in our amazing school!! Shout out @The_GESGators ! Sometimes I may only have time for a quick text or email but we all try to communicate and check on one another! Smile it matters! #dojochat
HI #dojochat! My name is Emily and I am a student at UT Tyler (in Texas). I am in the education program in the hopes of being a physical education teacher/volleyball coach. #edfb4338
A3: Encouraging positivity in colleagues by sharing fun, new things and recognizing each other for a job well done. We have a kudos board-recognition comes with a cookie! #dojochat
A3: my hubby's in education too & he's a complainer. I made a rule: sandwich your negativity. 1 positive, 1 negative, 1 positive. ๐ It's actually been working! #dojochat
Absolutely! When someone makes a mistake in class, including me, we yell, โItโs all good!โ We need to be real and relevant to our kiddos. #dojochat
A2: speak in a positive tone! Instead of speaking in a โdonโt do thatโ voice, phrase it with โwe do this....โ truly makes a difference!#dojochat
A3 Positivity is built by positive relationships. Fostering a comfortable atmosphere will allow for teachers to engage more effectively and improve group morale as a whole #dojochat
Thank you :) I did have an idea about creating a class "Bill of Rights" outlining expectations of behavior between class mates? I don't know if that is feasible? #dojochat
Itโs never a bad DAY. We all have bad MOMENTS....but thereโs ALWAYS good in each day. We try to focus on the good, even when some days it feels like youโre surrounded by bad #dojochat
A4 had a kiddo having a rough day, took him outside just to check in with him one on one, I just wanted to understand what was up. It made a world of difference for him, I've never been hugged harder by a kiddo and new he just needed to know he was loved no matter what #dojochat
A4: In times when a child is in The Dip I will work with them to process how to get out The Dip. Taking that time to build the relationship and problem with that students create a positive bond. #dojochat#thedip

A4: I have a student who will elope sometimes when he is mad, on Monday instead of leaving he got mad, went up to my assistant and said,"Can we go for a walk please I need to cool down?" I about fell on the floor, ran over and hugged him and told him how proud I was. #dojochat
A4: I suggested that a student greet her bus driver in the morning & at the end of day.... say have a great day & thank you. My student was thrilled that it worked! The bus driver was pleasant & responded with kindness. #dojochat
A4 One Ss had a hard time making friends so I made it a big deal to compliment how COOL he was and how I wanted to be his friend. Did the trick ๐ #dojochat
A4 As a substitute, I work with all kinds of students. I was helping this one student who would get frustrated very quickly with his work. I used positive reinforcement and guided him through the questions. When he completed a question, I said "see, you can do it!" #dojochat
A3: focus on the good in every day, no matter how much you may feel like youโre surrounded by. Thereโs never a bad day. Just bad moments. #dojochat
A4: Mojo actually helped me and one of firsties. She had a challenge w/ playing soccer at PE. We had a great chat as a class about the #powerofyet The next day she was so excited to tell me that she practiced dribbling at home! #practicemakesprogress#dojochat
A4 #dojochat a kid asked me to draw an elf. I told him that I was sure he could do it better than me. I "dared" him to try. He sighted and finally took is crayons. The result was indeed amazing! We posted a picture on CD. The little boy was so proud!
Q1 - I am still a student but when I get my own classroom/gym, I will also use positive encouragement during PE exercises and games. I will also post silly pictures on the walls that also provide encouragement or an inspiring quote. #dojochat#edfb4338

A4 TRUE STORY: one of our toughest 5th grade "bullies" developed a soft spot for a differently-abled 5th grader. I noticed all the ways that he supported this student and award him an Empathy Badge. He now sees himself differently. #dojochat#gamified
A.4 A student was struggling with grasping a key historical concept. I differentiated the lesson 1 on 1 after class drawing comparisons from his favorite sport. He now uses this technique when studying for exams. #dojochat
A5 Belly breathing, take a break and return when you feel ready, add "yet" to your thinking, ask for HELP (not the answer), ask to hear the question in a different way/ask a classmate to restate it #dojochat
A5: I teach them to break things down into little steps. Instead of looking at drafting a whole essay or story. For example, first get the hook, then the rest of the intro, etc. This keeps the feeling of success and positivity going and make the task less overwhelming #dojochat
A5: Just started teaching them the 7 Habits of Happy Kids, and that STUFF IS LEGIT. Awarding 5 dojo points when they demonstrate being PROACTIVE (habit 1) . Reshaping our world #LEADERS#dojochat
A5: Honestly @ClassDojo Big Ideas has really helped to lead positivity in my class meeting ps daily. I can always go back and reference things like The Dip and The Beast. Teaching those strategies early on makes things smooth later on down the road! #dojochat
Q5: Using YET in our vocabulary. Also breathing, and asking a friend for help if the T is busy. Ks have lots of feelings so breakdowns are unavoidable, but reflecting on it will help them learn. #dojochat
A6 Everybody has a vice - playing Candy Crush, going to happy hour w/ fellow teachers, exercising, whatever... Do SOMETHING that gets you OUT of your teaching head for a while. #dojochat
A6(at school) laugh with my kiddos, write down highlights and pin them to a board so we can look at them and laugh, take lots of photos to share on Class Story #dojochat
A6( inside school) I watch @realrapreynolds to inspire me to be a better teacher, I also use @GoNoodle A LOT during the day so I can get silly and have dance breaks with my kiddos #dojochat
A6(outside of school) take time OFF! Being away from school (aka not taking work home or checking your email - i know it's hard) can help you miss ALL those moments with the kiddos #dojochat
A6: I had a challenging beginning of year. aide left, 25 new Ks and myself, basically. Instead of complaining, I challenged myself to stay organized and strengthen my classroom management! Still a work in progress, but I'm learning a lot #dojochat
A6: outside of school, I find activities that are engaging for my kiddos, I also join in communities (like #dojochat) to surround myself with teachers who are positive and love what they do.
A6: Participating in ed camps and twitter chats like this one reminds me why I got into this! I'm constantly learning and being inspired by my #PLN#dojochat
A6. Not mystical, magical or ministry. Sometimes the job of teaching needs to be approached as just that, a job Helps avoid burnout and encourage having a life and a practice of self care. #dojochat
A6 I listen to PODCASTs, you know like #dojopod, and read, and try to draw stuff in my #bujo Basic survival stuff. I also play video games -- right now playing Mass Effect #NERD#dojochat
A7: I got a new student whoโs been struggling to adjust to our classroom and he has been acting out. Yesterday he came into class and told me that he was going to be a role model! #blesshisheart#imnotcryingyourecrying#dojochat
A7: I had a parent bring me flowers, a balloon, and a card signed by her twins (one is in my class, the other is not) for My birthday on Monday #lovemyjob#parentsarentsobad#dojochat
A7: This lesson! My Ss were so into learning about voting. The best part was the 'stickers' they wore home. Ps picked up their kids wearing matching stickers, and my Ss were like no way! #dojochat
A2 - I try my best to always come in with a positive attitude no matter what may be going on outside of school. I also do my best to ask the students how their day has been or to talk to the students who seem to be unnaturally down that day. #dojochat#edfb4338
#dojochat I'm not in school this week, but the other week we spread some kindness by making cards for our amazing custodians. :) My kindergarteners were so happy to deliver the cards!

A7 we made 2 gorgeous mobiles out of pine cones in our K class! Children beaded first (great for fine motor skills) and painted the pine cones. Such a beautiful piece of art that we worked on collaboratively! #dojochat
