Our chat will focus on the idea that we can lead and make positive change from any position in our school systems. Leadership is not about a title, it is a way of thinking and acting.

A1- my leadership treasure is creating a fun, family atmosphere where everyone WANTS to be! I hope they recognize my passion for doing what's right for KIDS always! #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling

Good morning #LeadLAP! Kelly Orvick, Tech Coord/Coach/CS Teacher joining in from Central, CA for my 1st #LeadLAP chat. Looking forward to starting 2019 with a new STEAM lab!
A1: I do everything I can to work around (and through) obstacles to make it happen every day. I've got drive and determination (sometimes to a fault). If a S or T comes to me with an idea, we make it happen! #LeadLAP
Brianne, Gifted Support Specialist, from Chesterfield, VA. Excited for all the opportunities that will bring new perspectives and positive outcomes for our children and educators in 2019. #LeadLAP
A1: I hope others see collaboration, going out on a limb, and my willingness to do anything it takes to make school amazing as my leadership treasures and passions. #LeadLAP
A1. Last summer I had the wonderful opportunity to get together with an amazing team of educators I worked with 20 years ago. They shared my innovation and not leaving any stone unturned was what they valued most. #LeadLAP
A1: That I’m organized and I support student activities and athletics. Which is a lot of my role. I hope staff see me as an instructional leader though, too. #LeadLAP
A1: Not sure what my leadership treasure is. Maybe my ability to listen/understand others (especially when it comes to curriculum) and adjust accordingly. #leadlap
A1 My leadership treasure is sharing with other educators what I learn as a connected educator! I want more of my campus and district to be connected! #leadlap
A1 One treasure is putting kids first. Literacy is my passion so helping everyone find that ‘just right’ book to connect them with reading...and then to keep it going. #LeadLAP
We gather in a different place chosen by the birthday honoree. We've been to the mountains of WV, St. Augustine, Key West, Orlando, and Savannah. I'm thinking about where I want to go. #LeadLAP
Driven professional here, looking for where to direct my drive. The education road is getting bumpy, but it has lead to meaningful destinations. My first chat here. #leadlap
A1) Our district motto is Every Kid, Every Day. I hope people would say I try to live this every single day for our students. #ReclaimingOurCalling#LeadLAP
A1: This is hard... I hope my desire to build authentic relationships is obvious. I have a passion for life long learning & having fun at the same time. I hope others value my honesty #REALedu & excitement to help others. #leadlap#ReclaimingOurCalling
A2: I have been told that I am able to empower others to see beyond what they currently are so they can become what they want to be. I hope people see that I care about them and their growth. #LeadLAP
A1- Hey Tyler from Illinois jumping in just a few minutes late. I would say my leadership treasure is that I am "real". Anything I talk about is something I have done in my class or would do. Not someone who hides behind catchy sayings or maybes. #LeadLAP
Fierce advocacy and passion is the key! People are drawn to passion, and many times even if they don't agree, when the passion is real they respect it! #LeadLAP
A1: My direct questioning. 💭Why? and 💭Why not? are my favorite statements! I hope others see me as a rebel and status quo questioner, and that those things inspire and empower them to take chances and big risks!! #LeadLap
A1) I'm hoping a treasure would be that I aim to empower others to find their awesome and to be OKAY with embracing & bringing who they are every day:) And deeply passionate about building rapport! #leadlap
Great stuff, Kristen. I've noticed that the skill (and passion) of being organized oftentimes helps everyone "level-up." What's your experience been? #LeadLAP
A1: I think colleagues would say my “treasures” are honesty, transparency, willingness to share & learn; but most importantly is that I take our work incredibly seriously but I don’t take myself too seriously! #LeadLAP
I treasure the opportunity to constantly evolve and explore new learning, new ideas, new thinking…with the openness that what is true today, especially in world changing at such an accelerated pace, may not be true tomorrow. #leadlap
Thank you Chris. If we want to transform schools, we must use results as the roadmap for improvement not as the destination or end-all-be-all. #LEADERSHIP TRUTH #leadupchat#leadlap
A1 I hope my students, staff and families see that anything is possible with positivity and team work! @MrsRunquist 6th grader will be hosting a Healthy Tasting Event for our staff and community because of $1500 SHIP grant! Dream big and make it happen! #LeadLAP
A1: I hope others would say that my big heart is a treasure. I hope they see how much I care. Empathy, compassion, and kindness matter a lot to me. #LeadLAP
I would hope others would say my “leadership treasure” is my willingness to jump into new things and not only encourage others to do the same but to do it WITH them. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A1. I would hope others say that I strive “to empower them and find ways for staff to connect, lead and grow.” I hope they say my passion is our school focusing on growth (not perfection). #leadlap
My leadership treasure being reflective and enthusiastic. Willing to listen to numerous perspectives before taking action—always willing to carry the banner for my school #LeadLAP
Innovators and early adopters like you make a compelling case to colleagues that they too can adapt, evolve, and be progressive with their connectedness. #LeadLAP
A1 - My leadership treasure is my consistently calm demeanor partnered with my relentless passion for always doing what is best for kids.
My hope is this rubs off on the educators around me. #KidsDeserveIt#betheone#leadlap
A1. I hope others value my willingness to listen and help generate creative solutions to problems. From students to angry parents to crying teachers—I hope the go forward feeling it was productive time spent with me. #Leadlap
A1- My leadership treasure is holding my ss to a high level, but creating a place where we can have fun and have strong relationships. I hope they see that I try to do what is best for ss and that I’m willing to try hard stuff. #LeadLAP
A1: My treasure is encouraging growth in staff and students. I hope the staff appreciates my passion to constantly learn and find resources and books which can be incorporated into teaching and learning. #LeadLAP
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A1) My leadership treasure, or strength, is a willingness to try new things. I’m always game to listen to an idea and try it out if we believe it will benefit the community. #LeadLAP
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A1: I strive to take a relentless positive approach to problem solving. I am passionate about serving others and finding ways to help and motivate students and colleagues! #LeadLAP
A1. I think my leadership treasure is a growth mindset. I hope the passion people see in me is the belief that we should all have the opportunity and tools to grow. #leadlap#ReclaimingOurCalling
A1- I listen. While my open door policy bogs me down a little at times, it offers time for relationships & being real. Being present, connecting, being a family. I hope my staff students & families see that as a win for our school community. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
You have many, Ross. (Whether you realize it or not.) You are genuinely committed to helping others be their best, witty, seriously talented with elements of design/communication, and so much more. #LeadLAP
A2. One thing I'd like to try to "let go" of is the idea that being busy is the same as being productive. I really want to invest in the right work and connect with others around causes that are important to kids. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A1: Great question! In any leadership role in which I serve, my deepest desire is that they see how deeply they matter to me. That their worth is high, and that I put my all into the work for a higher purpose. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A1: Patience is my treasure as we navigate the evolution of education. I hope they all see and feel my passion for using today's tools to creating engaging opportunities for learning. #LeadLap
A1 I hope others would say my “leadership treasure” is the connections I make with kids my classroom is a place where ss feel valued and safe which is also my passion. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A2 Our school is working on going gradeless, which for us means letting Ss grade themselves. This has meant less work for Ts, more learning for Ss and.... no more Ss in my office complaining about their grades!! Win, win, win
#leadLAP
A1: I think others would say that I’m committed to all Ss and the Ts I support. I hope they value the love and intentional feeding of their spirits. #LeadLAP
A2: I'm really trying to quit taking things personally this year. I need to stop overanalyzing and assuming. I rehash conversations over and over again wondering if I did or said the right thing. I've got to quit that mess. #LeadLAP
A2 I want to BE present and truly listen more to support others. This may look like I’m doing less. However, in turn, I’m doing more to support others. #leadlap
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
I agree. I think it keeps people on their toes, not in a bad way. And I’m new to the building and position so some people are still figuring me out. #LeadLAP
So great to hear this, Todd. When I think of you I think of so many additional strengths I admire, but it's really great to hear you reflect on this about yourself. I'm not surprised you don't give up on people! #LeadLAP
A2: staying in my office. I have to get out more so I don't get bogged down. I'm also going to empower my secretary to handle more situations to allow me more time for the classrooms. #LeadLAP
A2 . Hoping to navigate the 2019 journey by looking for new exciting roads, propeling forward -- without being preoccupied with wehat iws in the rearview mirror.
#LeadLAP
A2 - I would like to let go of previous "fixed" thoughts. Despite what has happened and what I think I know, I want to concentrate on what to do next to help.
#leadlap
A2: I need to try to let go of making other people's emergencies my own. Sometimes I get tied down in doing things that others could be empowered to solve & grow in the process. I have so many capable leaders around me & I know they can handle some things I take on. #LeadLAP
A1 For me, it's all about effective communication. In particular, I'm proud of my (ever-improving) ability to focus and de-escalate situations that need it. It's about keeping our common goal front-and-center: What's best for this child who WE are ALL here to serve? #LeadLAP
A2) Less time answering emails and more time with personal interactions. Always pushing for more time in classrooms, the hallways, the playground, and the lunchroom. I need to be more purposeful about this. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A2- Less mundane task that others can help with- I'm going to COACH my T's more so they can be the best they can be for Students! #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
I need to spend more time in the classroom. I do @eduleadership’s 3 classrooms a day but they’re becoming too routine. I have to make them more meaningful. #LeadLAP
Less reliance on standardized test scores that don’t tell us much about our kids or educators; instead, more inquiry based learning that is student centered & driven! #LeadLAP
A2. I want to empower others and delegate more - we have great people so I need to let them shine. This will allow me more time in classrooms. #leadlap
I'm totally digging this innovative thinking! Sometimes people are just waiting for us to speak it and know that it's "ok" to be innovative and that it's affirmed and welcomed. #LeadLAP
A2 Not sure what I will do less of (maybe just need to organize more purposefully to be efficient) but I do know I will do more ‘pausing’ to breathe, reflect, and enjoy moments because time flies too quickly. #LeadLAP
A2: Instead of making a to-do list, I will make a not do list. I am committing to not doing things don’t that help me grow or connect with others. If it doesn’t get me excited, it is a no. Boundaries are the first step to balance. #leadlap
My hope is it’s apparent I 1)form genuine relationships with students, 2)relentlessly question/challenge every policy or tradition that doesn’t give students the best possible learning experience, and 3)support teachers in their journey to help students grow. #leadlap
A2: One big practice I am looking to let go of is allowing others to dictate my mood by their actions and words...I need to focus more on the positive interactions and not let negative or overly needy folks break my stride!
#leadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A2: More time immersed in classrooms. My goal for January is to tweet something positive from every classroom every day to help make this happen. #leadLAP
A2: Letting go of 24/7 email. Getting rid of the email notification on my cell phone and focusing on being where I am and with who I am. Really listening (#oneword2019). #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling

Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A2) A ? I've been thinking about a lot! I thought I was giving Ss/Ts tons of choice but since relfecting on this, I decided to give up more control & put more solutions/decisions in the hands of those around me AND to make it matter every single day. #leadlap
A2 I want to let go of things that don’t move my ss forward. I kept adding things thinking I needed more but it has definitely bogged me down. I want to focus on doing a few things really well instead of a lot of things ok #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A2: Some of my favorite moments of this year were during parent organization meetings when we discussed language and culture during our multilingual book club. Going to find more time to connect to families. Less time in pointless meetings. #leadLAP
A2. I heard @mgrosstaylor mention recently that we have to be okay to let some plates spin...I think this is a place I can grow this year! As a newish admin, I have a hard time really releasing tasks to others. #leadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
You are a great listener, Jen. (I've heard it said, "The conversation is the work..." and I think you help so many people in this relational manner.) #LeadLAP
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A1 leadership treasure is how can I help you and encourage feeling safe in your vulnerability through challenge. My passion is leaving those I engage with a memory of a calm steady presence, over the memory of any task. #leadlap
A2: I’m a details guy. I like plans. But sometimes I spend so much time planning and not enough time doing. I’d like to let all the “What if...” questions go this year and just go for it! #LeadLAP
Q3. What's a special connection you made with another educator in 2018 and who are you learning from now? (Help us grow our #PLN!) #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling

Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A2 I'll be letting go of trying to recreate powerful learning engagements from the past in the hopes that our new lrng measures up & I'll be embracing those new kid ?s that push us in thoughtful new ways. #leadlap#ReclaimingOurCalling
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling

A2 Time to say good bye to my office and hello to my mobile Wildcat Cart! Excited to be surround around learning! I need to add some #WildcatBling#LeadLAP
A2 What a great question. I'm looking to cut down even further on evening entertainment this year. My wife and I just decided to cut cable TV, meaning less sports and more thesis work! #leadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
Good morning #LeadLAP crew! I’m an AP for a K-5 elementary school in Illinois. I’m looking forward to continuing to build on relationships and becoming an innovative leader!
A2. A Superintendent once shared with me that there will always be some who light "fires" in a building - challenges that they want you to resolve immediately - but to stay focused on a few goals to successfully implement the change that is needed. #LeadLAP
My leadership treasure is that I came from a childhood of poverty and education changed my life. It’s my mission to show others that #TogetherWeCan achieve! #leadlap
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
Preach! This is something I can do too. I once had a colleague share a powerful quote about 'choosing our attitudes' and it changed the way I approach each day. #LeadLAP
A3. This past year, I had the chance to collaborate with @PrincipalDodge1 and he and I are leading the #UndergroundBookClub to go with #ReclaimingOurCalling. We work on weekly missions and connect with others who are interested in creating a child-centered ruckus! #LeadLAP

A2: I'm hoping to let go of letting others moods and responses affect me. Negative self talk and over analyzing can bring me down if I let it. #leadlap
I salute you Jason with this! When I was a campus administrator I would let the others on the admin team know that I would be doing classroom observations and that those were largely non-negotiable time frames on my calendar. #LeadLAP
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A2. This year I hope to “let go” of overthinking the little things. As far as doing more, I want to spend even more time in classrooms and without worrying about paperwork/referrals/phone calls that are piling up. #leadLAP#studentsfirst
One thing - Trying to shift into a paperless environment with the support of technology. Another - I love to participate in committees and I have not thought yet about doing less in that area. #LeadLAP
A3: I made a connection with @BarbaraGruener because she helped me to challenge myself & I spoke on her podcast! It was a push to start my year off on a good foot! She is wonderful! #LeadLAP
Q3. What's a special connection you made with another educator in 2018 and who are you learning from now? (Help us grow our #PLN!) #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A2- planning to spend more time out of the office and more time saying no. I want to be busy for the RIGHT reasons, and be purposeful about what I commit to. I love to be involved, love to serve, and love to help so saying no is hard. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
#leadlap the biggest connection I made is with the #cleartheair community, created by @ValeriaBrownEdu - we are currently reading “White Rage” by Carol Anderson!
A3: Oh my goodness - I don't know that I can seriously answer this question. 2018 was a year of growth and so many were cheering me on, coaching, teaching, & mentoring behind the scenes & center stage. Just go follow all those I follow. Love them all! #LeadLAP
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A3: So many but some new ones in 2018... @kwilkinstchr has made so many of the things that I have envisioned come to life. And they're not on Twitter but Marti & Patty have changed how we do Science education at our school! Fortunate to be surrounded by great educators! #LeadLAP
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
It’s difficult to say that there is just one special connection…rather, there have been a lot of divergent sparks. Those sparks are all dots to connect, both inside and outside of education, that allow for not just a depth, but a breadth of learning and knowledge. #leadlap
A2: More time immersed in classrooms. My goal for January is to tweet something positive from every classroom every day to help make this happen. #leadLAP
A3 in 2018 I met @gcouros who has encouraged me to reflect on myself and embrace a love of teaching like I never have before. Twitter has grown my PLN more than I ever could’ve imagined so I follow anyone who share my passion. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A2 Joining late today. This year I want to focus more on what's most important & remembering we can't do everything. Less time with negative influences that not only take up time, but energy. #LeadLAP
That's it right there! Being intentional and purposeful in focusing on the great things and letting the naysayers and time-suckers take a back seat!
#LeadLAP
A2: Accomplish more by doing less alone and more together. I hope to let go of the fear of doubt in 2019 and gain confidence so that I can better serve others. #leadlap
A2. My one word is sustainability this year so letting go of that which I can not control. :D Focusing on that which I can and then going for it! #LeadLAP
A3- I've connected with so many in 2018 and it's really enhanced my practice. I can't wait to keep connecting and growing in 2019 @GustafsonBrad is someone I want to learn more from after reading #ReclaimingOurCalling as it has really resonated with me. #LeadLAP
A3: @principalMrE It’s definitely cool having the perspective of someone from a different district (yet close to yours!) and being able to connect. He let a team of us come visit his school and that was awesome and much appreciated. #LeadLAP
Q3. What's a special connection you made with another educator in 2018 and who are you learning from now? (Help us grow our #PLN!) #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A3: there are some many educators that have helped me in my #PLN, but one that got me started in big ways is @macnbeans. Jerilyn is a phenomenal person with charisma and passion for developing engaging lessons and helping her #PLN.
#LeadLAP
A2) Working at separating work from home. Staying away from checking emails, responding to messages, etc. when not at work. Tough to do, but necessary. Find myself more eager for the day at school and home when work/home balance is in check. #leadlap
A3 @BarbaraGruener & @amynicolebettis have become great friends and our connection happened on twitter. I love learning from these ladies and being inspired daily. #leadlap
A2 honestly this year to accomplish this may mean leaving teaching. I'm advocating for myself to get help and not be assigned another brand new class to prep. I'm using Angela Watson 40 hour work week right now to see if I can figure some things out. #leadlap
A2: More time immersed in classrooms. My goal for January is to tweet something positive from every classroom every day to help make this happen. #leadLAP
Q3. What's a special connection you made with another educator in 2018 and who are you learning from now? (Help us grow our #PLN!) #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
With my change from the principalship to central office I have been able to take my daily voxer conversation to a daily (almost b/c we are both crazy busy) conversation w/ @aaron_hogan and the rest of the @CSISDCurr_Inst team. We all push & learn from each other. #LeadLAP
In reply to
@GustafsonBrad, @aaron_hogan, @CSISDCurr_Inst
#leadlap A2 I will decrease the emails I send, hopefully having fewer sent to me. More time in classrooms, no matter what I never spend enough time with children!
A3 I'm learning from everyone in the Teachers Going Gradeless group @TG2Chat and the Sunchat bloggers who constantly support me in my blogging. Also learning from @MarisaEThompson among sooooo many others.

I’m very fortunate to work for an amazing superintendent in @chackerman1 because she always puts kids first & encourages everyone to learn & grow each day! #LeadLAP
A3: there have been so so many great connections made in 2018... I don’t know if I’d have enough space to list them! So many amazing educators I’ve met through twitter/IG or in person who want to do what’s best for their students and are willing to share + grow! #leadlap
I affirm you for this David! As a former campus admin I learned early on that if I didn't advocate for and ardently protect the time to accomplish the tasks I had as a leader, then the other things that were important to others would lead me to being unproductive. #LeadLAP
A3: So many people in #LeadLAP chat push my thinking each week. People have read my blog & encouraged me. I've read theirs & it's inspired me. So many people!
Q3. What's a special connection you made with another educator in 2018 and who are you learning from now? (Help us grow our #PLN!) #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling

A3- @iluveducating and I have formed an emotional support team to help each other through the good and bad of ed. In 2019 she is helping me with some game based stuff for class. She is a game guru! Needs to write a book on it! #leadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A3: I'm super grateful for the special connections I've made with my Spark Starters in @msd549c, #my53s, and oh so many here on Twitter that are continuously challenging and encouraging me! Too many to name them all and I'd surely leave someone out if I tried! #leadlap
A3: This year I collaborated with the great @MaestraOlivia for a presentation on Translanguaging and her work on Learning In-between Language and Culture (LILAC). She has and is teaching me so much! We will take our show on the road at a national conference next year.❤️ #leadLAP
This is so difficult as I’ve learned from so many this year but I have to say the leaders I met through @3_nisl were some amazing people I will never forget. #LeadLAP
I know it's hard to move, but the cool thing is you get to take all you have learned from one system and marry it with all the learning in the new system, and BAM... the opportunity for growth and learning is off the charts! Best of luck, Bri. #leadLAP

Q4. Leadership is service and investing in the capacity of others. What's one leadership tip, strategy, or insight you can share to help us lead better? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
Not quite an answer but I’m looking to pay greater attention to my instincts. Although I’m reflective at times, like many of us, I can suffer from@analysis paralysis #LeadLAP
A2. The need to jump in & “fix” it. The “fix” isn’t always what’s needed. You can “fix” the symptom but, not the problem or root of a matter. That means the “fix” is temporary. Spend more time supporting beyond the “fix”! #LeadLAP
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling

A3) A great teaching tool from 2018 has been @UnderstoodOrg. Really great articles for working with Ss of all abilities. And love listening to @PartialCreditEd podcasts! Really fun and insightful! #LeadLAP
A3) It's been an interesting year of bonding with a crew of colleagues in one district and then moving to another and forming relationships with more amazing educators so...all that have impacted me from @Hopkinton_PS and @natickps (too many to name:) #leadlap
A4. One thing I learned after conducting observations for a couple years was the importance of trying to complete feedback and notes (a.k.a. rubrics and forms) during the actual observation. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling

A4 Just listen and be still. We are fixers by nature and sometimes parents, students, teachers, and other administrators just need us to listen. #LeadLAP
A3: many in my #pln but known her for 2 years now but @lportnoy has been great 4me professionally but more importantly a friend. culturally, my voice has been stifled, but turned 45 & @lportnoy helps me to share my voice.I am growing in #courage & #intention#oneword2019#leadlap
A3. I have connected with so many amazing leaders—made a special connection with @bethhill2829 this year and have been inspired by her practice of spending most of her time out of her office. I am all about adding leaders/educators to my #pln so I can learn and grow! #Leadlap

A3) Building strong relationships with students is the foundation. Via Twitter, have learned from many. Enjoy seeing/hearing the work of student connection from @Slater_Curtis_ and @PrincipalFrench to name a couple. #leadlap
A4- honest and timely feedback- don't avoid the 'hard' conversations... and they need to be conversations with a give and take, supporting T's is our biggest calling so they can be great for Ss #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
Q4- though sometimes difficult, you have to give all stakeholders a voice. Some decisions don’t need feedback or input, but many do. Allowing others to see things as a “work in progress” is important to me. I don’t know all the answers, but together we will find them. #leadlap
This is awesome Gabe! One of the first lessons I ever learned as a leader was to be visible. The students and teachers alike appreciated my "daily walk" of the hallways each day as school started. That helped me to build goodwill far beyond what I realized back then. #LeadLAP
A4 listen to others because everyone has something they can teach you. Embrace the differences within your school and find a way to use those differences to benefit Ss #ReclaimingOurCalling#LeadLAP
Q4. Leadership is service and investing in the capacity of others. What's one leadership tip, strategy, or insight you can share to help us lead better? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A4: The single most effective thing a #leader can do is to be present when you are w/ others. Utilize the F2F time-- listen, discuss, collaborate, & be in the moments. Emails, texts, and especially social media can wait until you are between F2F sessions. #LeadLAP#leadership
Q4. Leadership is service and investing in the capacity of others. What's one leadership tip, strategy, or insight you can share to help us lead better? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A4: Keep an organized calendar & stick to it, while leaving room for flexibility - make it visible. If it's on the calendar, it gets done.
Create & maintain a sanctuary for yourself. (Thanks #Sanctuaries & @thezenteacher) #LeadLAP
A4) Rather than trying to have all the answers, I think it’s better to ask “How can I help?” when working through concerns with staff, families, and especially students. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A4 When Ts ir Ss have great ideas, instead of thinking "oh no, I can't take on anything else" and being negative, say "Wow! what a great idea. How can you make that happen?" Empower them to make it happen.
#leadlap
A1: I believe others may say my "leadership treasure" is the ability to find innovation in the most mundane things. This goes beyond technology- having a growth mindset of using what we have to create a learning experience for our scholars. #LeadLAP#reclaimingourcalling

A4: It is imperative to lead with love versus fear. Relationship building is key. Create a culture where those you lead want to be there and want to be led by you. Remember it’s not about you being the best, but instead it’s about making others better. #LEADLAP
Q4. Leadership is service and investing in the capacity of others. What's one leadership tip, strategy, or insight you can share to help us lead better? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling

Q4. Leadership is service and investing in the capacity of others. What's one leadership tip, strategy, or insight you can share to help us lead better? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
Indeed Bobbie, protecting our intellectual resources so that they can be allocated best to support the achievement of students and the teachers providing quality instruction. If we don't advocate for that, who will? #LeadLAP
A4: Leadership is a privilege. Remember that it is our responsibility to help others find their voice, passion, and path. Great Leaders provide hope and encouragement to those they serve. #LeadLap
A4 My best tip is to always be willing to do every job you supervise. Grab a mop if something needs to be mopped, work in the cafeteria, sit with a student and teach. That is leadership-what you do everyday, not what you post or say. #leadlap
I am always looking to connect with other professionals in the name of student learning and am thankful for the connection I have made with @GustafsonBrad in 2018. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
Q3. What's a special connection you made with another educator in 2018 and who are you learning from now? (Help us grow our #PLN!) #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
At the end of the day we’re there to support and encourage the teachers and students. We must consistently nurture, foster and maintain our relationships with everyone in our school community! #Leadlap

A4) Lead tip: Don’t be afraid and ask for help! Sounds cliche, but some of the best experiences last year in class and on our xc team were from just trying something new! #LeadLAP
A4: Leadership is a privilege. Remember that it is our responsibility to help others find their voice, passion, and path. Great Leaders provide hope and encouragement to those they serve. #LeadLap
A4: One leadership strategy —> Have the hard conversations when necessary. It’s not always easy, and they don’t always go well, but in the long-run it’s better to have them (I think). #leadlap
Some tips... Always put kids at the center of every decision; maintain a learner’s stance; make feedback a valued norm in your community; and take the work seriously but don’t take yourself too seriously - it’s not about you, it’s about those you serve! #LeadLAP
A3 To answer questions and explore my edu concerns on Twitter, and lessen my vulnerability, I have chosen to be as anonymous as possible. This gives me permission to explore holistically. Right now @Angela_Watson is speaking a language I best understand. #leadlap
A4: Listen to people’s stories. We are all human. All face challenges. Many have incredible backstories that will teach us something if we are willing to invest. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
Q4. Leadership is service and investing in the capacity of others. What's one leadership tip, strategy, or insight you can share to help us lead better? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A1: I think others might say my my leadership treasure is building relationships and culture which is vital to the growth of a school community. I hope others value my passion for teamwork. It takes every crew member working together to keep our plane in the air. #LeadLAP
I'm hosting @NASSP's #PrinLeaderChat this Sunday night for a quick 30-minute PD event. 9 PM EST / 8 PM CST
Thought some of my #LeadLAP friends might be interested in stopping by.
Let's share strategies on ed leadership renewal in the New Year!!
To invest deeply in others and provide opportunities for others to increase their capacity, requires that you not only invest in yourself and increase your own capacity, but create the environment for those opportunities to exist and flourish. #leadlap
A2: In 2018, I chose not to actively seek out advice from others. I am welcoming advice, taking feedback & changing my mindset as I begin my journey as a school leader. More of "doing" in 2019- I "talk" a lot, but I am thankful that I back it up with "doing". Keep doing! #LeadLAP
Q2. It's been said we can accomplish more when we do less. What are some practices you're hoping to let go of in 2019? What will you do more of? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling

A4) I would say the biggest advice I can offer is that leadership is something we can all do from any role. We just have to grab some courage and finding at least one person to join you changes everything:) #leadlap
Q4. Leadership is service and investing in the capacity of others. What's one leadership tip, strategy, or insight you can share to help us lead better? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
Hey Jeff...this is a powerful, powerful thing. Seems to be a fleeing "skill" in this connected age. Those who do it well (and prioritize it) really stand out and make an impression. I wrote about this in #ReclaimingOurCalling. HT: @casas_jimmy#LeadLAP
A4) Vulnerability. We don’t have to have ALL the answers ALL the time. Our job is to get it right not to be right. Letting others know their voice is important to the process. #leadLAP
A4 Invest yourself. Don't just watch the learning; become an active participant. You connect more with the kids & they notice your involvement. #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A4: listen to others & celebrate those for stepping outside of their comfort zones or doing amazing work! Put others, not yourself, in the spotlight and help them know it’s ok to throw out the laminated lesson plans! #Leadlap
Q4. Leadership is service and investing in the capacity of others. What's one leadership tip, strategy, or insight you can share to help us lead better? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
A4: Work hard to really know and understand excellent pedagogy. If you are really knowledgeable of highly effective teaching practices, you can always add value to any conversation about teaching and learning. Be a trusted resource for your team. #LeadLAP
My leadership treasure is that I model everything I expect from my students. I give them respect. I am kind. I am real. I care. I am committed to their success, and I'm hopeful they follow suit. #LeadLAP
A4: I think it starts with embracing those words "service" and "investing in the capacity of others". In the moment, it is easy to forget we are all in this together. We want what to "grow" amazing little beings. I want to keep my eye on THAT prize. #LeadLAP
A4: Listening with my mouth closed, heart open, and mind fully focused on the message from the person talking. Not just hearing and forming my response before they have even finished sharing. #LeadLAP
Q4. Leadership is service and investing in the capacity of others. What's one leadership tip, strategy, or insight you can share to help us lead better? #LeadLAP#ReclaimingOurCalling
Indeed this is true @TonySinanis. Having worked at schools that had more "direct instruction" and also one that was almost all PBL, opportunities for students to engage in inquiry-based, real-world applications of learning was significant and satisfying for everyone. #LeadLAP

A4: I think sometimes, the most important action a leader can take is to LISTEN and to truly hear what the people we are serving are saying. As the old saying goes: We’ve got two ears and one mouth for a reason, right? #LeadLAP
