#aussieED was founded on the belief that all teachers, and students, should have unlimited access to Professional Development, on their own terms, to improve their teaching, their schools and change the lives of the students they encounter. Since then, we have embarked on a mission to reach educators, not only in Australia but, all around the globe. We want to smash the barriers that prevent teachers from easily connecting and learning with each other. To that end, we have developed a regular Ed-chat each Sunday on twitter at #aussieED. The chat allows all teachers, leaders, administrators and all those connected with education to meet on an unbiased platform and discuss the real issues that effect what happens in classrooms everywhere. Our chats are authentic because we are real teachers walking the same walk that so many do everyday.
#aussieED A final quote to finish up:
"It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities" J.K. Rowling
Have a great week everyone!
Oh! I visited that amazing school! It is difficult to imagine without seeing it in action and taking to its students. Highly recommend a visit #aussieED
A8. I design new curriculum every time I teach a curriculum, as it’s never perfect and also holds different needs depending not differentiation of learner need within the curriculum of the day? Changes like a petal in the wind!! #AussieED
Cause if I don’t know what I don’t know then what hope do I have of knowing what my students don’t yet know when I don’t yet know them (or something like this…) #aussieED
A8 #aussieed - The hardest part is the fact that we can't see the future. So creating a curriculum with the intent of preparing students for it seems impossible at best and risky and deleterious at worst. Just my thoughts.
That is amazingly positive, I thnk you are being too generous. The history wars should have had nothing to do with education. But the Asia focus was just the most obvious example of something that is implicit in the writing of anything, bias & an including and excluding #aussieed
National curriculum = general information baseline. States/system = specific outcomes. Schools = focused organisation of units and order. Teacher = for the individuals you teach. Right? #aussieED

Well, of course, but NSW didn't want to really adopt it without making it a bit more complicated so... we are back to having to have a say on it! #aussieED
A5: They’re not mutually exclusive and this is the problem with most curricula. I think both are needed. Facts can only be learned and applied if character has been part of the process #AussieED
#aussieED Q5: If we must have one… skills and facts? How do we achieve the balance?
(Should the role of curriculum be purely academic? Should character building be part of the curriculum?)
At the start of every unit I ask Ss what they want 2 learn, what they’re curious about & why would that be useful for them and their classmates. I add their questions 2 the curriculum and by the time we start, they’re eager 2 learn. They have become co-owners of curr #AussieED
