While instructional coaching frameworks, models, and cycles are helpful for defining the overall work of an instructional coach..
We live in a dynamically changing educational context that is often unpredictable and that requires innovative approaches daily. #divergED
Coaches who value and act on diversity and inclusion and who encourage divergent ways of thinking while nurturing trust and accountability will begin to produce the outcomes required to positively change the landscape of teaching and learning. #divergED

A1: feedback on the journey of continuous improvement! Because teachers need to be supported and celebrated in the rigorous work of serving EVERY student at high levels #divergEd
Two really good questions @WeberEducation#divergED Part I: it’s leveraging assets in order to improve performance. Part II: Educators deserve it because it’s what they (should) do for a living!
A1: Teaching and learning requires all professionals to be in a continual learning cycle. Having a coach, a thought-partner, is something we all deserve in order to drive our learning forward for Ss. #divergED

We shouldn’t view coaching as a quick fix or even a solution to change anyone. If teachers change, they do so not because a someone has pressured them to change; they do so because they want to change. #divergED

A2 Most commonly is fixed mindset thinking that has the sense that only the “bad" ones need coaching. Run in to that far more often than I’d like. Not very #divergED.

A2: When coaching is perceived to be evaluative; when mindsets are fixed; when respect and empathy are missing, coaching is unlikely to be effective #divergED
A1-Coaching is helping someone to reach a goal that is set by them or someone else. All Educators need coaching because nobody knows everything about everything. We can all learn something from each other. #divergED
So much right here! Being “right" is a “need” many coaches have. I love it when my learners catch me out being “wrong.” That’s a surefire #divergED sign of learning!
A2: A major challenge is controlling the ‘advice-monster.’ A big step is to trust a dialogical approach, ‘we both have ideas and methods, let’s concentrate on outcomes for Ss learning is a better approach.’ #divergED
A2 - At times, coaches are expected to have all the answers. Even if you are trying to act as a lead learner, we all have so much to learn from each other #divergED
A2-Trust. Both sides need to have mutual respect and trust in each other. Trust that both sides are in it for the mutual gain in the process, not a one-sided victory. #divergED

Coaching is about communication. To do it well requires highly advanced soft skills. Humility but confidence.

A3 Gotta know your stuff, but knowing your stuff doesn’t mean showing your stuff. It means lowering the threshold of participation so learners can find your stuff (maybe with a little help). #divergED
Because coaches approach relationships with teachers from a non-evaluative stance, it inherently increases their credibility and influence and dismantles any defense mechanisms that the coach and the teacher may have present between them. #divergED

A3: Coaching isn't about telling; it's about asking good questions, asking the right questions, and co-discovering strategies for continuous improvement #divergED

Truth is, I am learning each day and becoming better with each interaction. My talented colleagues push me each day, with powerful conversations and learning opportunities ‘live’ with Ts and Ss. Seriously fortunate to be in this position! #divergED

A4: for those being coached? That’s easy—approach coaching for #divergED, NOT to perfect your craft. Ridiculous ideas can go a long way in improving your craft.
A4: and for those coaching? Breaking through ambiguity is good for those you coach. Breaking against brick walls not so much. #divergED can include sharing answers once in a while.
A4: Be curious & humble first. Ask questions. Compliment and help others recognize their talents. Always be student-centered. Understand that trust is truly what matters. Build relationships with each interaction. And finally, be a learner always! Coaching matters! #divergED
