Meet and chat with colleagues about Universal Design for Learning (UDL) on Twitter! The best hour of professional learning you'll get in 30 minutes. Held the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 9-9:30PM ET.
Welcome to #UDLchat !!!! and let the snowball building begin! Let's start with brief introduction, read through the directions below, then share one or two words (or an image...or emoji, etc) to describe how you are feeling right now. https://t.co/jnunJNtY05
OK...we will take this slowly...Q1 will be posted any second...Your job: respond to the prompt with a word or two, a question, brief connection.
Then find someone else's tweet that connects or extends your thinking...Tag that person with a response to connect your ideas. #UDLchat
Q1: What comes to mind when you hear "context matters!"
Share your initial quick thoughts...then tag someone else's tweet to extend your thinking! #UDLchat
A1: Context matters- some Ss will succeed in some contexts (subject area, type of activity, etc.) and some in others- but if we only give them one option, we're leaving a whole bunch of Ss behind.#udlchat
So true! I saw the same Ss in two different Ts classes and it was a night and day diff. in 1 class a student was a trouble-maker, but in another class he was a leader! #udlchat

A2: I've said this before, but it's so true: When Ts are "my way or the highway" Ts, many Ss choose the highway! Learner variability gives everyone a chance to experience learning in their own way! #udlchat
Timeless words-“If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” #UDLChat
A2: Assume variability in all aspects of learning, remember adults aren’t the only ones who have specific preferences, ask Ss abt their preferences & LISTEN to their answers #UDLchat
Learner variability is the only way. It’s systematic and predictable. The UDL framework invites, honors & supports variability so that students can all become the best version of themselves #udlchat

Welcome, Kate! and always on time with #UDLchat! Read through to catch up...we are in the midst of building our ideas by responding to the Q's and then tagging others to extend our thinking...Give it a go!

Love it! I also love how inclusive the experience of the elevator ride and classroom learning should be--the elevator folks have opportunity for clear access and view--inclusively! #UDLchat
#UDL pushes Ts to ask not are my learners are different, but HOW different are my learners? Makes for such a creative lesson planning process! #udlchat

#UDLchat#udlchat A2: variability is what keeps me going! New challenges to face! New ideas to explore! It's amazing what I can learn. Ss aren't the only ones!
A3 The elevator has me stumped. While interesting in its design, isn’t that still a fundamentally different experience than the stairs? Different entry points? #UDLchat
A3: Give students every opportunity to reach mastery. Redos, reteach, alternative assessments, whatever it takes. After all, we are there to help them learn, not just crunch numbers and give them a label. #sblchat
Thanks for trying out a new format tonight...Snowball discussions work so well f2f--it was great fun to try it out tonight on #UDLchat! Be sure to follow any new folks--expand your #PLN Snowball discussion style!
A4: "Our lives begin to end...silent about the things that matter". For many Ss UDL can be the difference between becoming an un-skilled worker or a college professor. UDL recognizes their brand of "smart" and gives them purpose. UDL matters. #udlchat
Thank you, everyone for participating in this amazingly quick-paced #UDLchat--thanks for sharing your insights and building upon our ideas! Next #UDLchat will be 2/7/18 at 9:00 ET

A4: Providing equitable learning opportunities for all is worth fighting for & our kids are worth it! We owe it to kids for school to not continue to be a place where only some feel success because they “fit the mold” & the rest are left behind. #udlchat
A4: One of my favorites. #udlchat Staying silent is tacit acquiescence with a broken system. Rise up to promote best practices consistent with true differentiation.
“Behavior and its interpretation are influenced by the perspective by which it is informed as well as that by which it is interpreted” #UDLchat#eme6408@michelestork
A4 I’m going with the one about being silent about things that matter. As a #udl practitioner, advocate and educator, it’s so critical that we teach kids to advocate for themselves and to stand up rather than stand by. #udlchat
“Variability occurs along a number of parameters such as learning preference, physical and cognitive ability, cultural and linguistic background, and psychoemotional disposition” #UDLchat#eme6408@michelestork
UDL's equitable framework enables learners to develop metacognitive skills within classroom environments along with real world environments. #UDLchat#eme6408@michelestork
You bring up point that designing is an always thought! Happens proactively with ongoing flexibility--and reflection to keep the cycle of learning going! #UDLchat
Interesting! I see it as same goal...all inclusive...different process and entry points are great way to celebrate diversity #learnervariability#UDLchat
