Hi #MTedchat! Topic: “Leveraging Video” Please Introduce yourself: name/role/position (feel free to post a video with your introduction if you feel so inclined!)
Q1: Share one way you utilize video in your professional setting (school, work, classroom). Challenge: Use this flipgrid to answer the question! https://t.co/ODSi0F1caw#MTedchat
Hey everyone! Amanda from Belgrade. Currently trying to multi task chatting with eating dinner and making soup for the school soup swap tomorrow. We’ll see how well it goes! #MTedchat

A1 I find video to be a very accessible way for me to learn new things. Everything from how to use a tech tool to attending a webinar about a topic of interest #MTedchat

A1 b) I love curating YouTube videos to add to HyperDocs and PD sessions I build, as well. It's powerful to explore concepts/ ideas/best practices by seeing them in action. #MTedchat
A1 I love watching videos on @TeachingChannel for PD. In the classroom I like using short clips to get student interest or sometimes explain a topic in a new way. We use a lot of @Flocabulary in our classroom #MTedchat
Q2: Differentiation creates multiple opportunities for learners to acquire information, demonstrate knowledge, and engage. How do you use video to differentiate? Challenge: Choose and share your answer via a video platform of your choice. #MTedchat
I use Flipgrid & SeeSaw for student feedback, response, etc. Also love it to help me learn new things or to engage students in things being explained differently than I might explain it. Also a great resource to help parents #MTedchat
Hey #mtedchat
IL HS science. Been a while for me, here. Having a hard time getting all #mtedchat messages.
A2: 1 minute instructional videos for questions Ss miss embedded in a Google quiz is invaluable. Each S gets their own experience.
A1 I’ve also been giving my kids videos in @seesaw with directions if a day I have a sub happens to fall on our iPad day. The kids love that they get to “see” me when I’m not there #MTedchat

A2 I might assign different videos to different students depending on interest or skill. I also have students who are getting the concept make videos for other kids to watch. Sometimes it’s hearing it from a peer that makes the difference #MTedchat
Q3: Globalizing instruction often means connecting schools, classrooms, and professionals via video. How have you leveraged video to globalize your instruction? Challenge: Try the Twitter live feature to answer. #MTedchat
First time? 3 hours. Now that there's an outline? Close to 30 minutes for 10 Qs, including creating the videos, but they're basically good forever.
Sharing is caring.
#MTedchat
Ha! Spicy... I 💜screencasts, as well! Such an effective way to communicate, and Ts can refer back as many times as needed. I would do this for my Ss, too! #MTedchat
I also love having teachers use Screencastify to capture students' conversations. It's a great way to have Ss view and critique their conversations. #MTedchat
I wish Ss didn't have to sign-in w Screencastify. Presents some PII issues here in Bzn. Would love to do this w @Seesaw and @Flipgrid, though! #MTedchat
A3 We have done several mystery skypes this year and my kids love it. After I pass around my google cardboard and we’ll check out something near where our Skype friends live. #MTedchat
A4: (Not sharing a video with Bachelor playing in the background)
My Ss sometimes make videos in mini-project form to inform others. Material is solely created by them and used in summative assessment.
#MTedchat
A4 Here is video of my daughter in Kinder talking about what she learned about pollinators in a self paced science unit about pollinators. https://t.co/pdePCUiQ7n#MTedchat
A4 I have students use @Seesaw to demonstrate student learning all the time whether it’s a math concept, reading sample or to explain their thinking about a science or social studies concept. #MTedchat
A4 I love the way Seesaw let's students show their work by uploading content, using labels and captions, creating drawings, and sharing videos- that way they can post their work and explain it. It also creates great dialogue & teaching moments b/t students #MTedchat
Q5: Some of the best professional development comes from watching your own instruction or learning digitally. How have you leveraged video to improve your practice? Challenge: Share a PD that utilizes video for professional growth. #MTedchat
That would be SO fun. A great project for the spring! Happy to help connect you with folks, if you want. A good friend, @kellyhaydenmt, is teaching Gr7 in Bogota, Colombia if you want to travel to S. Amer! #MTedchat
mine have no issue with it, but I teach 4th grade so they like just about anything. I do, however. Lol I personally don’t like making anything where I have to talk into a camera by myself. #mtedchat
I know! That and John Spencer's YouTube video writing prompts! I saw them and instantly missed having my own classroom https://t.co/vgFnUCxv0c#MTedchat
A5 I video taped myself all the time when I was doing my national boards. Honestly I should do this again because it was so helpful but I HATE seeing myself on video so that’s a problem. Lol #MTedchat
A5: I watch my coaching clips independently and with another coach. We talk about improved coaching moves and what to think about doing next time. #MTedchat
A5: My first videos for students were so terrible. I've come a long way (fortunately for my Ss).
What's not to learn from video?
(answer: nothing 😁)
#MTedchat
A5 I've been recording webinars lately for PD for others. As I'm editing for publishing I watch them and think about what I will change for the next one #MTedchat
The more you do it, the less weird it gets. 😂 I look at myself almost 8 hours a day while doing virtual coaching calls. I monitor my facial expressions. #MTedchat
A4: could we include stop motion animation in Google Slides as video? I say YES! Check out this great tutorial from @jmattmiller (who is coming to Montana next September!!) https://t.co/VqXpRQa63h#MTedchat
A5: One PD I've been doing lately is the Flipped Learning 3.0 Differentiation Strategies. It's all video with just a few discussions and quizzes. #MTedchat
Snap's Terms of Service are dubious for the under 13 crowd. They kinda own you... and all your content. And inappropriate Bitmojis would do us in, as well! #MTedchat

I suggest to my Ss that they try Snapchat to label pictures they take during labs. Super easy. Surprisingly, I (stressing the capital I) and the one to suggest it to THEM!!

Q6: Pulse check: How do you currently feel after participating in the “leveraging video” conversation tonight. Challenge: Use the GIF feature on Twitter to show us! #MTedchat
I've been conditioned to be wary of all TOS and Privacy policies. Feel free to ignore me and carry on with all the Snapchat fun!!! Personally, I LOVE it, and would love to use w Ss eventually! #MTedchat
Umm, yes. Rayna? Do you guys do any Rev War content? This would be so cool. Amanda, my brother works in Boston. I bet he could show your Ss some sweet views of landmarks from his downtown office! #MTedchat

PRivacy is a big deal and sometimes the policies don't keep up with the technology. I am wary of class dojo for this reason. Did someone say FERPA? #MTedchat
