Welcome to the February #wcedchat and Congrats on making it through January!! Our chat tonight will be centered around instructional strategies from #wctopchef and technology tools that you use in your classroom. Excited to hear all the goodness!
#wcedchat Favorite tech tools right now are @Edulastic for making assessments. and used @zipgrade today for a quick quiz. hah students getting well versed in all sorts of methods :)
A1: My favorite tech tool is our iPads. We like to use Teach Your Monster to Read, Prodigy, and Kahoot. I'd love to expand what we use them for! #wcedchat
A1: Manga High is a lifesaver in the differentiation/engagement departments for my Cognitive students. I also love tweetdeck which I'm using as I type this...yesterday #wcedchat
A1: Polygraph is a fun activity for students. Involves the whole. Many games and activities on https://t.co/rFDwJXVX6P Great for increasing student engagement. #wcedchat
A1: I love using the Classroom app for the iPads! It's great for classroom management. You're able to mute, open apps, screen view, airplay and so many other things on the students iPads. 🙌🏼 #wcedchat
I can not say enough about Canvas!!! My secondary students need organization and know due dates, etc. This community is the ultimate staple for college or career ready students! #wcedchat
A1: I like using whatever the kids tell me about and enjoy using! They always have better ideas about tech than I do. Recently heard about Trello and Scratch, so we might try those out for passion projects. #wcedchat
A1: I think Pear Deck is a dream but hard for using all the time. I LOVE IXL and the app Mathseeds. both engaging. Variety is key tho. @ksnyderfirst is fab at Wizer. Ss love it too #wcedchat
A1. Tech I enjoy in the classroom... I actually like pen and paper, as this is best for note-taking. As for modern tech, the chromebook and various web-based tools we access with it are wonderful in providing practice/ experiences and final projects or performances. #wcedchat
A1: I cannot cheer enough for the new iPads-they connect beautifully with the Apple TV- students can easily share their work on the 'big screen'. ScratchJr. is a favorite app to introduce coding and readers response, Kahoot, Quizziz, Popplet to check understanding. #wcedchat

Absolutely!!! It's very easy to use. Your K-1 kiddos would love it. Critical thinking and problem solving at a younger level. You'll love it. #wcedchat
A1: all about the flocabulary! Thanks @Mr_Ryan_B. And boy oh boy do I LOVE me some BrainPop! My students now make me movies and are sending them to me in their freetime 😻 #wcedchat
A2: Technology provides Ss with quick & easy review opportunities. It also provides Ss with opportunities to be creative in demonstrating comprehension of the content. #wcedchat
A2: I have noticed that technology can always engage my ss. Another great thing about technology is most of the time it will provide immediate feedback! It's a great, easy formative assessment tool! #wcedchat
#wcedchat My kids are so willing to try anything....I always preface it with, "guys, ive not done this before, but I really want to see if it helps, so let's try it, and we can see if it's worth doing again". hah they just roll with pretty much anything anymore.
A2 Technology can be a scaffold for our students. So much more can be accessed when tech lifts up and supports our students. It also engages them in the content and allows Ss to pursue their curiosities #wcedchat
A2. Benefits: Ss can continue practicing skills, learning while I work with a small group; helps with time management; firsties love Kahoot and other online games! Parents stay informed and can see what their Ss is doing #dojoportfolios#wcedchat
#wcedchat 2. As a result of using technology, my Kinders are more comfortable with Ipads and chrome books and will be better able to utilize for more advanced projects in the future. They are helping each other power on and power off the tech as well as responsibility!
A2: Some benefits of using these technology tools in my classroom have been increased student engagement and student achievement. Technology can be a great tool to enhance and support student learning. #wcedchat
A2: Ss are starting to own their learning. In the past it has been all about information the teacher has to share. Now Ts are facilitators of learning, guiding Ss on their educational journey. #wcedchat
A2: Student engagement, critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, differentiated instruction - just to name a few...but that's a good group right there. #wcedchat
A2: The world is literally at your finger tips. I love the constant resource of looking up anything you are currently wondering. Ss need to learn how to use the digital world safely and effectively. #wcedchat
A2: Technology in the classroom has allowed for more differentiated instruction and meets Ss at different levels and at their different needs. #wcedchat
A2: Students are much more engaged and excited to learn when technology is a part of a lesson. They also tend to have better recall of information gained from lessons including technology. #wcedchat
A2: Tech is engaging for Ss.
It is relevant to their world and allows for creative collaboration as well as creative ways to display content knowledge #wcedchat
A2: I feel that my students have gained confidence by using iPads, especially in testing on them. They develop a deeper understanding of concepts presented in class or objectives being taught. #wcedchat
A:2 As my kids use their Chrome Books on a daily basis, I have noticed an increase in knowledge and confidence with the use of technology that the majority of SPED kids are slow to develop.#wcedchat
I wish I had my smart board back but I love using my iPads as stations in my reading rotations. I’m trying to start math and writing station rotations too! #wcedchat
A2: I have noticed that technology can always engage my ss. Another great thing about technology is most of the time it will provide immediate feedback! It's a great, easy formative assessment tool! #wcedchat
A2 Using tech to bring the world into the classroom through virtual book studies and field trips provides great experiences for our students. #wcedchat
A2. One critical advantage I enjoy with tech is using Hapara even when I am absent from school. I can be at home or a workshop and still offering "encouragement" and assistance to students needing it. #wcedchat
A2: Sometime restlessness at the end of an hour can create discipline problems. Letting students on their chrome books usually prevents physical discipline problems. #wcedchat
A2: Ss have instant & constant access to content, digital trail to track original work, infinite resources, collaboration opportunities, conversation w/Ss in feedback comments & no more carrying home a crate full of papers to grade! #wcedchat
That's a great point! Getting them accustomed to using the testing tech will allow for more cognitive effort to put toward the content of the assessment rather than the process. #wcedchat
A2: tech allows for much more differentiation. Ss can have passages read to them, Ss can create a bunch of different projects to meet their needs. And the opportunities for challenge assignments are ENDLESS! #wcedchat
A2: Ss have instant & constant access to content, digital trail to track original work, infinite resources, collaboration opportunities, conversation w/Ss in feedback comments & no more carrying home a crate full of papers to grade! #wcedchat
A2: Growth in achievement, ownership, empowerment, and esteem. EX: there are so many gifts academically struggling Ss have that can allow them to help others with tech I've seen this develop esteem in them and in return they learn through tech engagement too #wcedchat
Benefits of technology in the classroom are that the students get excited and stay engaged through the whole lesson, even through multiple days! #wcedchat
A2 I mentioned that I get to hear Ss voices. It may just be 1 or 2 short sentences, but I get to hear from all my Ss in a way that’s low-risk for them and only takes about 5 minutes of class time. #wcedchat
I love stopping by Bess Truman to see small groups in action! It's one of the reasons why @BessPrincipal your students are so success! Great teachers doing great things! #wcedchat
A2. Benefits: Ss can continue practicing skills, learning while I work with a small group; helps with time management; firsties love Kahoot and other online games! Parents stay informed and can see what their Ss is doing #dojoportfolios#wcedchat
A2: Using technology to help learn geography, some really pushed themselves to achieve far more than just the United States venturing out into world nations. #wcedchat
Q3 Maybe headbands as a way for students to read sight words or spell spelling words ( not in the traditional sense of playing of course)
#kindergarten#wcedchat
A3: I'm excited to incorporate #FlipGrid into my classroom. @jyhawkfan45 did an awesome job presenting about it on our PCLT day and made it look so fun and easy to use! #wcedchat
A3 I love them all, but some of my favorites to use are 3-2-1, like me, find someone who, lineup, readiness corners, headbands, small fires, spend a buck, bumper stickers, dot storm, and matchbook reflection #wcedchat
A3: There are so many great ones on the menu but with our little guys, I think I am most excited to utilize a version of headbands with 1st graders in order to work on vowel sounds and digraphs. #wcedchat
A3: breakouts...because we have done them in K this year with Title but plan to with 2nd. I did not know how fun and growth mindset oriented they were. Missing out until now!! @ksnyderfirst@KassieGail@mrssmith2ndgrd#wcedchat
A3: With #wctopchef starting this week I'm excited to try many of the cooperative learning strategies. Some of the strategies I'm planning to use are turn and talk, partner sharing and other intentional groupings of students. #wcedchat
A3: There are too many to count! I love taking a new idea and modifying it to meet the needs of the Ss! Thank you for pushing me to be better with the #wctopchef#wcedchat
A3: I have already started!.
I like any strategy that makes the kids move and think. I have plans to use LineUp, Breakout, Headbands, and Bumper Stickers. #wctopchef#wcedchat
A3: Some of my favorite #wctopchef instructional strategies I'm excited to use in my classroom is FlipGrid, Pear Deck, and the anticipatory sets! #wcedchat
A3: I’m excited to use the Anticipatory Set: Video. Adding videos to art lessons always gains students interest and more often than not, their participation. #wcedchat
A3: breakouts...because we have done them in K this year with Title but plan to with 2nd. I did not know how fun and growth mindset oriented they were. Missing out until now!! @ksnyderfirst@KassieGail@mrssmith2ndgrd#wcedchat
A3: I am super excited to see my small groups reaction to my costume for our next reading unit! I also think they will really enjoy the bumper stickers activity. #wcedchat
A3. I'm looking fwd to trying FlipGrid with my 1st graders over their Solids/Liquids unit and the anticipatory visual or video would be a hit with them! #wcedchat
A3: I'm working on the anticipatory set for my personal growth plan, so I'm excited to continue my work with that. It's started to prove very beneficial for my writing students. #wcedchat
A3: A favorite to check for learning and use as an exit slip (formative assessment) is Scoot. It's fun. Ss are engaged. I'm always looking for an excuse to use it. Sound and Motion Symphony sounds like fun, so it might be up next. #wcedchat
Faculty at HST participated in a “like me” during our staff meeting today. I can’t wait to see other strategies taking place in the classrooms! #wcedchat
If you have access to the great Mary @CoachMarySears you need to invite her to your room! We have so much to learn from each other, and it starts with just one little statement "Can you stop by my room?" #wcedchat We are better together!
Yay and thank you!! You all were a fun group with our fast and furious @flipgrid session. I learned of some new ideas to incorporate at #FETC19 Need to share them with you all as well #wcedchat
Q4 More littles friendly apps and activities. More inclusive ways to use technology with the kids, hands on rather than just demonstrating iPads are only hands on I have in our class #wcedchat
A4 I'd love to see some edcamps or unconferences offered after school or during the second half of a full PD day or on early release days. Specific buildings could be for specific topics, but the details are hashed out upon arrival #wcedchat Who's in?
A4: I would love to learn more about breakouts! I've only participated in 1 (and it was for higher grades), so I would like to see how you would use it in an elementary classroom. #wcedchat
A4: Number Talks, Math talks, whatevs you call them..they are amazing and get Ss making sense of math in short periods of time during every day. Jo Boaler bks. #wcedchat
A4 I always walk away from PD wanting more when instructional strategies are used to engage participants with each other, like a small fire or 4 corners. I learn so much from others and value the conversations. #wcedchat
A4: Have I mentioned Adobe Spark yet? lol. I also love any initiatives that challenge us as teachers to keep at something for the long haul. Blogging, new reading ideas, incorporating videos into the classroom, etc. #wcedchat
A4: Anything hands on! I loved my classes at PCLT this year when I got the chance to use new apps or google extensions! It gave me time to understand the program for myself and reflect. #wcedchat
I had a great conversation with two science teachers from @nixaschools today about intentionality. They are really doing it right! #wcedchat We need to go learn some things from their team to improve what we are already doing here. We can only get better!
A1: Some of the benefits I see from technology are increased motivation, peer collaboration, and more student engagement! I love all the resources out there and being able to try new things! #wcedchat
A6: I want to be MINDFUL about doing Top Chef. I use many of those things, but forget to "label" it or share it. I like [picture a line through this and the word LOVE written on top of it] prizes!!!! #wcedchat
A6: I have some new things I want to look into: Adobe Spark, Autodraw, and ScratchJr just to name a few. Thank you all for sharing your awesomeness! #wcedchat
Q6 We always need to be trying new instructional strategies so that we’re always reaching or trying to meet The ever-changing needs of our students they come first! Do What’s best for them! #wcedchat
I am super excited to try explee! My reading group loves drawing and videos. I just know they'll enjoy it more knowing I made it. This chat really encouraged me to learn more about the apps my building coworkers are using. #wcedchat
A5 Our teachers in @WebbCitySchools are doing some amazing things in the classroom to engage our students and take their learning to deeper levels. We are so fortunate to have the best teachers working to inspire our kids to become self-directed learners #wcedchat I'm grateful!
