A1: Time. I need to make sure that the time I spend here is saved elsewhere.
A1: I take time from my family my house my health & give it to my social media feed in the form of my attention and interactions
Hello ! Wasn't going to miss this! Todd, elem principal in SoCal!
A1 main cost for me is time. One more distraction. I'm purchasing connection w other educators
A1: The cost is the very precious commodity of time. Finding the right amount to give and get.
hi from quebec, canada :)
HA! How did I forget about Hamilton? I've been watching all the YouTube I can find on that show! I'd love to see it live.
A1 Twitter's currency is likes, retweets, comments, followers. Know ur content is valuable when others sign up to hear it.
Welcome Vicki. You'll find lots of helpful people on https://t.co/CNAXBZ1M38
It's my first Twitter chat! Vicki from central Ca. I've been paying attention to House of Cards, Hamilton, cable news, my family.
Great to see you Fight On!
have suggested Principals follow you. You may get a slew this wed around 9am. Just an FYI. Training Ps on Twitter.
A1 Trade ideas on Twitter, and based on value, we build followings. Opportunity costs for participation differ for each of us.
A1: Ex: Have spent the last 2 hrs following Chapman-to-Cubs trade rumors. Certainly not good for sleep.
A1 Cost = early morning and late evening time. Often a place of new resources for my history classes.
Josie from Arcadia, CA. Teaching fourth graders in about a month
Somehow I missed Q1. See lots of A1s though. What was the question?
A1- Twitter is one place to get some PD. It’s economical b/c you can find great resources. Cost’s time (I go down rabbit holes)
A1 What I like is that I control the tweets I read through hashtags. But it does take time from fam
Hi, I am a public speaking tchr and lit coach from CO. Is a SDSU alum and former Californian allowed to crash the party?
Victoria Bradshaw.MS Principal.Gifting attention to starting my 1st year as Admin and finding relevant PD for my staff
A1 -- time, it can be a distraction & time, it can be so helpful in finding ideas
A1 The cost is a balance. Motto for grad school: be where you need to be when you need to be there
A1: Cost - Pride. Nice and humbling to know that you are not the most innovative person out there.
The cost is time. It is a hard balance wanting to learn more and grow while being mindful of my family.
Q1 In what ways is Twitter an economy, what is the price/cost of your attention https://t.co/vWCiYESw70
Somehow I missed Q1. See lots of A1s though. What was the question?
A1:when I stop myself from just scrolling and instead seek out specific info from trusted mentors I am able to "manage resources"
This. https://t.co/HuSu86rAJQ
A1- Twitter is one place to get some PD. It’s economical b/c you can find great resources. Cost’s time (I go down rabbit holes)
A1: Cost= my sleep sometimes, also frustrations with the focus on "like" or "buzzwords" more than substance
A1b Price of my attn is live interaction. Appreciate active users on Twitter- a la chats, real life responses, etc
That would be awesome!! Always happy to help in any way! Let me know!
A1 The value I get is priceless. I've become a better teacher bc of the people I met on Twitter & what I have read.
A1 : is gold! 1 can get lost in the wealth of resources. I focus on hashtags: , & others!
Time is the winner. All forms of PD take time - confs, reading, podcasts, convos. Time is a factor in all.
The cost is time, but I feel like I'm missing out on valuable deals by not using Twitter to its full potential.
A1 a place of creativity! Cost ? More a reward...
just letting principals know that there are others that are doing it in their situation.
that drives me nuts, too!
A1: Cost of Twitter🤔
My only concern is how Twitter controls feed. I'd like to see a variety.
I like to share + stay connected.
A1 While we gets lots of free info on Twitter I wonder how much if it is actually useful/helpful
Agree. I use the like/RT part of Twitter, but don’t look for it in my interactions. Content/convo focused https://t.co/HXlq2kRFmH
A1: Cost= my sleep sometimes, also frustrations with the focus on "like" or "buzzwords" more than substance
A1: Many times.. Not being fully present in the now with loved ones.
And how much time is used in filtering it
What I've learned from is a lot cheaper than paying for a conference.
A1 Cost is time doing bedtime routine and time to talk with hubby. But in return I get PD and able to share w hubby/teammates.
A1: It is hard to know that I am missing so many great ideas daily. Get maybe a percent of what others tweet.
Hello everyone. Checking for the first time on from St. Louis.
A1:Twitter costs time and increases the amount of time I spend on hoarding new ideas
Likewise, especially when the most popular ideas (re)circulate and dominate our conversations.
A1: I have to be mindful that my family does not think they are less important than my Twitter chat.
like many things -- you have to sift through & test in your own classroom
A1. If not careful, price can be time with family. Additionally, price could B quiet time w/self. Spaces in between notes r music.
That's so cool!! So great to support schools in different ways.
AMEN https://t.co/rO3Ebp6j4Q
A1: I have to be mindful that my family does not think they are less important than my Twitter chat.
Twitter is a good filter...find the mentors and dig deeper. This is how has proved invaluable! https://t.co/GIUldVDmcx
A1 While we gets lots of free info on Twitter I wonder how much if it is actually useful/helpful
this night is mine and is a resource.
A1b another value of Twitter is connections/ being able to make real life friends/colleagues from virtual ones
A1 Twitter is the superhighway that gives me access to off ramps I would not otherwise find. Cost = time but my Ss get the rewards
A1: I like the idea of changing from a TV consumer to a social media contributor. Rationalising why I do not watch TV.
A1: All social media are mega attn consumers for me. Hubby- "You ARE in a MA program with a focus on technology." Still sad tho
The incessant self-promotion, Twitter as business tool bugs me. Share yes, but be wary of promotion.
Howdy
Carl from Avonsleigh Australia
Sick at home so popping in for some
but not only family -- i think many talk more here, than with their own staff/campus
A1: I've found that A LOT of what's on Twitter in the edtech community is repetitive. So I'm flooded w/ same info.
Like when Cronuts were a thing. We get washed out by viral ideas on Twitter https://t.co/e7A9mmTWk8
Likewise, especially when the most popular ideas (re)circulate and dominate our conversations.
A1: Finding unique voices/ideas takes work (& time). Too much mimicry on , not enough poetry. https://t.co/ZO3fvtt9DH
A1 While we gets lots of free info on Twitter I wonder how much if it is actually useful/helpful
I agree! I think that's why we have followings and we have favs list. My whole feed are educators. 😀
This is a big challenge for me...try to limit how many chats I participate in each week! https://t.co/YZoYTrcFr1
A1: I have to be mindful that my family does not think they are less important than my Twitter chat.
A1: What I learn on Twitter allows me to save time on what I might have spent hours researching just on the web
A1) Twitter is a barter place.
You take ideas from others and the price is that you return your ideas to the PLN
I get to have conversations w ppl that I couldn't @ conferences because everyone is rushing around to get somewhere.
Totes magotes. It becomes something of a club, for which membership requires knowing and using the lingo.
I think this sometimes happens b/c new ppl discover Twitter and share what they’re seeing for first time.
the "post for you" tweets are my pet peeve
Yes. Another reason I like edcamps. Free is liberating. You can take bigger risks https://t.co/DdSveM9m2n
What I've learned from is a lot cheaper than paying for a conference.
effecting education in a global manner. We do not need to reinvent the wheel every time.
A1: yes it's the people on Twitter that I value the most
But meaningful practice is something different—and much more difficult to demonstrate/share.
What about the value of finding links to articles you may not have discovered yourself? That is valuable.
this is our own PD, our own personalized PD.
A1: As I walk the halls, I don't want to miss out on conversations and eye contact because I'm looking at my phone.
🙋🏻the opposite. My Relatives believed they were entitled to my Attn. as did👮🏻.
Twitter reminds me💍
Or pontificating a point of view! I am tired of hearing about politics & eduspeak that insults someone https://t.co/qG7CjIl7zq
The incessant self-promotion, Twitter as business tool bugs me. Share yes, but be wary of promotion.
Keep forgetting to add #! So frustrating! https://t.co/FYyS6cDYiw
YES!!!!! I find this to be mentally exhausting. I would much rather Google topics, but I move with the times, right? https://t.co/I9GNo3sIpR
A1: All social media are mega attn consumers for me. Hubby- "You ARE in a MA program with a focus on technology." Still sad tho
Hi Jen from Upland New Middle School ELA Teacher....mostly watching tonight! missing the Q's
That is perfect! Platitudes abound but Twitter builds the F2F when they happen! https://t.co/RU2Yi9PrG0
A1: Finding unique voices/ideas takes work (& time). Too much mimicry on , not enough poetry. https://t.co/ZO3fvtt9DH
A1 While we gets lots of free info on Twitter I wonder how much if it is actually useful/helpful
Here comes Q2 and then I'll share the Q link.
Yes! I mean, of course, share your work - that’s how we grow, but there is a saturation point that is irritating.
Confirmation bias is huge: we trust ideas more if they confirm our preexisting bias. And we stagnate.
A1:Like shopping sometimes u have to wade through lots of stuff to find the one or two jewels. There is lot of promoting
Q2 How do companies, EDU consultants, PD firms, booksellers, capture our attention? What makes them effective at this?
I'd love for my feed to be primarily composed of Educators. I most have Business ppl.
I agree ! While there are negatives for sure... I'm guilty of this! Even here vs. Facebook! https://t.co/XBswFNACex
but not only family -- i think many talk more here, than with their own staff/campus
That’s very true; and conferences or other events I didn’t know about.
A1 Something to consider... hopefully Twitter does not falsely pumped a person's ego.
Hi Girlfriend! Glad you are here! https://t.co/grBUkSZeLO
Hi Jen from Upland New Middle School ELA Teacher....mostly watching tonight! missing the Q's
- I have never been to an edcamp, but I would live to one day.
I'd love to see the Twitter do more to promote people w/quality ideas & small followings.
A1: Most valuable pice of cognitive worth I have is my time and attention. Chats on extend my connectedness
How often do we truly, deep down, accept or even want, our bias' challenged..Where's humility?
A2- they have to be genuine, you can tell when its a "robot" thanking you for the follow
A2 bigger, louder, more colors, more graphics, more reps
A2 Classic marketing skills, clever advertising, and, most importantly, engaging content. Quality brand management.
A2 They know just how to make things look pretty!
A2: as a new T Titles that promise-how to's and survival tips always seem to capture me...Sometimes its information overload
The first thing👮🏻+relatives (and CLASSDOJO) tried to do is keep me off Twitter. ClassDojo👹kept suspending my accts.
A2: They post info that is relative to teacher pd and we want to learn more, right? Never stop learning!
A2: by keeping it simple and relevant. Maybe a fantasy new acronym
A2 Don't love it when companies use to advertise their stuff. Just a personal pet peeve. A big one.
A2 - too much self-promotion & I'm out of there- i don't wish to be seen as a $ for anyone
A2 When they have an interesting hook and something I can see as immediately useful I'm much more likely to subscribe
A2: Sometimes it feels like a smoke and mirrors effect. It's the retweeting and using the same #'s.
Yes! Love to see more ideas that no one has seen. How do we get people to share (and promote) these ideas?
A2: By publishing articles/blog posts on recent trends & sharing them out via social media.
I've found I've made decisions about PD in CA based on what's available on Twitter.
A2 For me, its who is recommending the books. Do I trust them or find the reviewer credible in the area. I like examples!
Graphs, charts, infographics and sketchnotes have replaced deeper conversations, sustained observation, reflection and analysis.
We block them and ignore them at
A great question—don’t know the answer! But I welcome some change.
A2: Companies understand power of advertising coupled with data mining. Capture trending topics, hook us with promises
A2 It also bugs when a friend has original work and someone copies it for $$ .
A2 : Companies have to fill a need. How can they help us solve opportunities at & grow our program.
A2: It always catches me off guard when they make a personal connection ... like they've done some research.
Yes, but when I block them, then I also can't monitor who often. As a mod for I feel I need to care for it's use.
A2 I feel besieged by corps and edus all trying to sell me something. I look for emp resrch, not case studies
Q2 how many ways can toy polish up a turd?
A2. Much of this is driven by desire of the "new", "first", "innovative" and having others doing work for us...
So true! Some Ts are always learning for the sake of bettering their craft! We make the best Ss (at times...smile).
If someone would rather tweet you an infographic than engage you in conversation, I'd question the source https://t.co/D5CinKVmKQ
Graphs, charts, infographics and sketchnotes have replaced deeper conversations, sustained observation, reflection and analysis.
PREACH IT! I see things like tables/numbers/pie charts and immediately become overwhelmed! https://t.co/ulVQVBW8JR
Graphs, charts, infographics and sketchnotes have replaced deeper conversations, sustained observation, reflection and analysis.
A2 - i am especially impressed when a company sincerely shares out links to other people/company besides their own
Screenshots of longer, more thought-out writing... one of the best things I've stolen from you
A2 I find EDU resources/companies bc someone I respect recommended them. That is the BEST promo they can do. Ts word of mouth.
I guess I draw a distinction between salesmen and pure spam.
A2 - freely share resources without the lure of having to buy more after you said it was free or charge upfront
Evening Carmen! Glad to see another member of the here in the !
A2: I've also learned that just bc someone has a ton of followers doesn't mean their edtech work is relevant to my work.
Both bug. Unfortunately, we just endured a BAD spamming on .
Is the Twitter format inviting some of that? Luring folks to (try to) be super prolific? https://t.co/ArjF5PIEkq
Graphs, charts, infographics and sketchnotes have replaced deeper conversations, sustained observation, reflection and analysis.
Great connection to book Originals! What’s more important: being first or being original? https://t.co/orLt53LEtf
A2. Much of this is driven by desire of the "new", "first", "innovative" and having others doing work for us...
How do you know when someone is selling you snake oil? How do you know when something should be ignored?
Not the memes and cute quotes overlaid on a nature background! Say it ain’t so David!
And you're right. I've had to have conversations with people about using as a personal Sales+EgoBoost
A3: During summer I spend time learning; devloping. Student curiosity is promoted with inquiry & quality resources
Yes. I want to know that it worked for someone I respect so I can adapt for me. https://t.co/EmbLSMNMsp
A2 I find EDU resources/companies bc someone I respect recommended them. That is the BEST promo they can do. Ts word of mouth.
A2: They do a mind blowing amount of R&D to reach wherever we are! They are strategic and well equipped! They know you better...
A2 provide value for free, my dollars don't come cheap neither does my attention
Yeah. had that in Feb/March. I guess it's going around.
Or that they are true organic followers. $$$.
A2(b) I also hate when people post their follower stats.
A2 - when the company realizes that many pay for PD out of their own pocket - so they don't charge excessive registration fees
What’s the burden of proof? Key performance index data? Can/should we measure these ideas with more scrutiny?
That's it right there...I pay little attention to companies on Twitter unless recommended by my PLN... https://t.co/wzh9MrQa21
A2 I find EDU resources/companies bc someone I respect recommended them. That is the BEST promo they can do. Ts word of mouth.
Q3 if it looks like snake oil, smells, like snake oil, and taste like snake oil...most educators are educated
Probably. I know that when I want people to notice I add a graphic. https://t.co/qGJmet58XM
Is the Twitter format inviting some of that? Luring folks to (try to) be super prolific? https://t.co/ArjF5PIEkq
Graphs, charts, infographics and sketchnotes have replaced deeper conversations, sustained observation, reflection and analysis.
You have to remember less is more when it comes to edu. Some things don't need digitizing.
to be honest if there are a lot of buzzwords #'d in the post I'm more likely to ignore
I look at whether or not their work is demonstrating the effect on Ss and Ts their learning and their craft
- I agree. Unfortunately, Twitter has cost me a lot of money for that reason.
Agreed. Clickbait in tweets.
And if you're competition for their revenue💰🤔or Job Title: downside to
Every Sunday at 8pm we get a few regular tweeters who sell their work. It's a bummer. But no way to control.
Q3 coming up... I'm looking forward to collecting all the answers tonight.
often people post for the sound byte - but i think is pretty genuine
There should be a way where you can trade books with other educators.
You can trust and for book recs. I promise. Amazon will thank me for that.
It's snake oil when they want to know your budget before your needs. Meanwhile I typically look for multiple sources
One strategy is to ignore every pitch that is not in response to something you're actively looking for. https://t.co/NHPgsocVoH
How do you know when someone is selling you snake oil? How do you know when something should be ignored?
Where does the asynchronous conversation aspect of this come into play?
That's good advice Rick. https://t.co/XbFgNqH9uY
It's snake oil when they want to know your budget before your needs. Meanwhile I typically look for multiple sources
Honestly I only started tweeting b/c it's required for my MA program
That's why I like the and ideas in edu right now. Not a fan of book-hawkers!
It's also snakeoil when they ask you to test it out and blog about it. I won't do that. Ever.
Q3 What is worth paying attention to? What values are you demonstrating with what you pay attention to? Give us an example
A2:📚Stores: 📚Fascinating how tables are set up + what 💡 + authors are promoted. Gives a brief confluence of💡s + power+ authority.
Exactly; and truly learning how to *listen* to people in the same room.
Are you referring to "paying attention" to things on Twitter or in general?
- Abby = one of my favorite kids of all time. Don't tell anyone else. Ha.
I'd see if they were curious about me & my context (through questions) or if they only had neat, clean answers 2 offer.
Love and been trying to put some of my stuff there to share with others. Helps me test it.
Either. Should have had YOU look at the Qs ;) but mostly on Twitter. https://t.co/4DGDj8Dvkq
Are you referring to "paying attention" to things on Twitter or in general?
A3 Whatever makes you pause and think. Or something you disagree with. What challenges you.
A3: Try to pay attention to what's relevant w/ Ss. I've had to rethink who I follow. Branch out. Other industries. Stay relevant
This seems like something that would be more useful to look at later. It's an hour of my life.
Joining the class 2 wks in has been tough. I've been playing catch up the whole time. Next term will be better
A3. Trends outside of education...Avoid being in a ...To fully one must look outside
A3 - coding is on my radar right now - i watch hashtags & blogs - looking for authentic uses in elem classroom
A3b I pay attn to edu things as well as news, other things that interest me. An example - Charles Kinsey
A3 I pay attention to thought leaders in Prof Orgs w/good events &
A3- I have discussed ideas with my Tweeps who are still in the classroom or coaching other Ts Their practice helps my practice
A3: The more I stayed in the edworld the more narrow my thinking became. We live in a bubble at times in ed. Not bad. Just expand
Q3 I need to pay attention to my breath. Where I place my stress. Who is writing about ideas I don't understand
A3: I pay attn. to what can influence my practice. My focus is on improving myself for the benefit of ss. i.e. what I’m reading.
A3 I like to have a variety of people to follow. That way I can hear about varying perspectives regionally, socially, etc.
A3: I pay attention to the things that remind me of the power we have to make a difference with kids. https://t.co/Fg2stLazCw
Hi Vicki! Do you teach AVID? It's my first year and I'm looking for help from my PLN
Pictures are instantly engaging.
A3 I'm working on that, honestly. All too often I heed the siren call of anxiety, of unfinished work....
- I always wonder about the companies that want me to write about them on my blog.
A3: That is a important, difficult question. Follow your curiosity, determine your instruct needs, ask folks you trust
A3: As educators I believe we MUST pay attention to developing cultural proficiency. Gaining empathy is crucial to our success
I've been doing this over the past year. And it's helped me to take off the blinders and have perspective
A3:Relevancy to my goals and vision.I like and retweet what I feel values creativity, growth and human connection
It really is all about my Ss! If I improve their experience, I help their learning! https://t.co/tXbIB1YsmZ
A3: I pay attn. to what can influence my practice. My focus is on improving myself for the benefit of ss. i.e. what I’m reading.
A3 I pay attention to stories. I love hearing stories of Ss and Ts and their experiences.
A3b social justice + SPED intersect pretty heavily in that case. Made me think about how to handle that in ITPs/transition program
A3 Giving attention to challenging ideas reflects a value in questions and experimentation, I think.
A3 : I pay attention to trends in leadership & management, opportunities for scholar & staff engagement at & more!
Exactly. Are they willing to engage in conversations?
A3) Tough one. I pay attention to what is relevant to me right now. Issues such as resilience or anything science
A3: Twitter allows for networking and PD. I try to demonstrate a growth mindset for my Ss. I hope My twitter would demo that,
A3: I look for authentic & real. Can't always tell right away, but over time patterns emerge. I like/listen to those in it w/ me.
A3 - if you are no longer a classroom teacher, i tend to be a bit more skeptical on advice you might give (tis true)
A3. Avoiding , but paying attention to what Ss are doing/using tech wise is important...
A3: ideas/practices that connect with my why
A3: I'm trying to pay attention to the things that motivate my teachers. I want to do whatever possible to tap into their passion.
I need to follow more Ed folks. I mainly pay attention to news makers, journalists, famous runners. I feel I'm missing out.

A3: Celebrating kids/staff/community. Creating more time for play & art. Documenting the schoolwide learning journey.
Start by following some of these fine folks at this evening! :)
A3: Things of substance. Things that have purpose. Things that are not trivial. People willing to move against status quo
Forgot to attach https://t.co/zBwKPSp7LT
A3 Paying attn to what I can try w Ss and how to better my lessons. Examples are hyperdocs and GAFE.
A3 I pay attn to things that matter to me & my Ss & try to be more informed abt. I.e. Social justice current events
A3: If I pay attention to developing understanding of others and their culture I model/ influence the need for others to do so
A3 I also seek out Ts w different experiences and backgrounds than me. Variety of input helps remind me to be thoughtful in output
Love this Danny https://t.co/CznXamzv0O
A3: I'm trying to pay attention to the things that motivate my teachers. I want to do whatever possible to tap into their passion.
I think that may give you an advantage. It's about balance. Having other perspectives besides Ed is eye opening.
There is a lot here in the , for sure. And a lot w/our program.
I totally get you but how do we keep our leaders in the trenches, so to speak? https://t.co/LcYHt9P7l7
A3 - if you are no longer a classroom teacher, i tend to be a bit more skeptical on advice you might give (tis true)
A4: Ideas to engage Ss. What will teenagers talk about when they leave my class. https://t.co/dZ9wSzreu2
Q3 What is worth paying attention to? What values are you demonstrating with what you pay attention to? Give us an example
"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain
It's how I got started and I follow my colleagues who are on Twitter too!
A3: I'm still trying to figure it out. I'm open to suggestions! Family, 4 MS preps, site coor. for AVID, MA program, service...
A3 cont. So those are articles I read & RT Even if topic is what I want if info is not serving my need I stop rdg
if they share Ss work and voice.
A3: My purposes + Profession.

Thank you! I'll be contacting you for sure!
i don't dismiss them, but i step back a bit!! & its not hard to stay involved periodically in a classroom 1/2
Q4 “Diversity is a choice, not an accident” R. Davis How do you make sure you have attentional diversity?
A3: I would challenge us to learn our Ss/Ts passions & find leaders/influentials in that industry & follow them on Twitter.
Hopefully we'll figure it all out by the time the next classes start! :)
A4 Saw a great preso last month that reframed diversity in terms of equity. Give equal attention to all POVs.
Agreed. Shouldn't have a feeling of obligation. And if it is "trivial" then should be personal to you imo https://t.co/YGcxv2eaDb
A3: Things of substance. Things that have purpose. Things that are not trivial. People willing to move against status quo
Q4 easy. I don't think in a linear process, I think....SQUIRREL.
A3- i pay attention to ed tech trends, how to help Ts teach better, & how to help Ss connect globally. Also ed leadership.
A4 When I see someone who doesn't tweet a lot but has an alternative experience I put them in a list so I don't lose them
2/2 - so many have left to be self-employed & would be nice to see them visiting classrooms - not just sharing ideas
A3 Ideas that make me think are worth paying attention to, value forward movement
A3: pay attention to both the lovers and the haters but we must demonstrate love in our actions and apologize publicly if we don't
I think this involves seeking out different POVs. They are not always apparent - must be active here. https://t.co/QE1e0l9Hyk

In your opinion, how much class time would be enough for an admin? https://t.co/yeUZDsTdSE
2/2 - so many have left to be self-employed & would be nice to see them visiting classrooms - not just sharing ideas
You’re absolutely right! Requires doing some work, but in the end, I think it’s valuable.
A4) Following all the things that you are interested in. So my hobbies and my educational stuff mix on twitter
A4 Read opposing view points, at least get basics of things you may not be initially interested in
A4: Diversity has become lip service to me. I like to see purposeful actions made in tackling racism & dismantling biases
A4: Diversity in who I follow? or by topic? Explain diversity in this arena?
A4 : I welcome & acknowledge all opinions; promote & encourage diversity of/in thought. Only way to make informed decisions.
yes, true - but a teacher who says I tried this Friday....etc..." Gets my vote more than "maybe you could try...
A4: So difficult to multitask sometimes (45 yo brain!). I try to keep up w/everything, but it really is a balancing act.
Disclaimer
iDid NOTHING to deserve what ClassDojo+👮🏻did.
I shouldn't have 2 apologize:
wellEducated✅
experienced✅
Or for my looks✅
And what about those that have so many advertisements on their blogs? Always suspect to me...
A4 For me, attentional diversity is getting away from the (endless) to-do list -- and fastened back upon a person.
I created a twitter list for HS students to follow and ask my Ss to follow people in their future field https://t.co/VZoy74OrkZ
A3: I would challenge us to learn our Ss/Ts passions & find leaders/influentials in that industry & follow them on Twitter.
Q3: S was fretting & rocking her desk. Told her she was mad & I was ok w/her being mad just not ruining my school. She calmed.
Not according to (he’s convinced me). Equity involves actively involving others, not just checking boxes.
+ 👮🏻 basically tried to kill me for being BETTER THAN THEY ARE.😠
A4b) I am less likely to check twitter if I am only focussed on one thing. Thus diverse focus means I pick multiple threads up
i believe every moment an admin can grab to be away from the office - should be in the classroom or playground
Are you saying I pay too much attention to what you say, David?
A4 choose to seek out different perspectives. Check out a # or a chat you've never taken part in ;)
A4 I also think it's helpful to ask someone you admire who has a different exp than you who they think you should follow
That's such a great idea! https://t.co/a6Q6VCTkoU

Great point. I think that multi-tasking is a demon that drives us to shallow understanding
Ok so Twitter's not perfect but I'm GRATEFUL for jumping down the rabbit hole that led me to . https://t.co/rO8XtDdE2M
howvever, having a friend be an admin this past year & watching, i realize -- free time is not a luxury
You don't know what you don't know. It's okay to ask or (look at their lists) https://t.co/d6CVgsHvyO
A4 I also think it's helpful to ask someone you admire who has a different exp than you who they think you should follow
I agree.Diversity and Equity are becoming new buzzwords but who is really risking having the difficult conversations?
I did a similar exercise w/ my students on this. They made the list. Should've kept the names & made a list.
That would be YOU! :) https://t.co/CK7PssGe7Q

A4: Love taking part in other states' Twitter chats! Gives you ideas from all over. , , are great!
This is one of my fav parts about Twitter. Check an interesting # and see what its all about. New exper. https://t.co/lvD9MmGORO
A4 choose to seek out different perspectives. Check out a # or a chat you've never taken part in ;)
Also connect beyond your grade level/subject area
some people do make their living off their blogs - i just appreciate them being upfront about it
Like what Atticus Finch said to Scout: You can never really understand a person until you have walked in their shoes.
I'm always ready to talk and I know others are too, but the many of the ones that make decisions aren't talking.
I feel like I'm doing everything a mile wide and and inch deep...
Q5 A woodworking “jig” helps you cut correctly every time. How can you “jig” Twitter, and media to pay attention to what matters?
A4 it's something I always need to work on. Being active, catching retweets from ppl who RT a variety of voices
Agreed. But how much diversity is there on Twitter right now?
A4: Having friends/teachers who are in different stages of life, who can teach me . Learning from those who have gone before me
My📲isn't allowing me to keep up w/
Q5 embrace what I don't know. Be the rookie, let go of the ego, and learn from experienced professionals
Too much candy. What I learned as an Admin was "strategic abandonment." Learn to clear out your mental closet.
A5: I use Tweetdeck w/ #'s & lists. And take 15-30 minutes in the morning & afternoon scanning.
A5 You don’t. A jig would narrow focus and lead us to seek out only what we’re looking for.
decisions in businesses and education. Lots of leaders aren't willing to talk or listen when it comes to bias/race
A5 frame it around Ss. How will this idea, source, story better my practice to benefit students?
A5: This seems almost impossible bc sometimes you get reeled in then you realize you didn't event need that piece!
Definitely feeling more like an echo chamber, but I value that ppl are passionate & care. Nuggets are there.
If you get a girl pregnant out of wedlock I will drive up here... And cut off your ____. 😮😳
🎥
A5 Go beyond the nonsense, the self promoters, don't encourage bad behavior! Ha! Basically...ignore
I like that! I need someone to show me how, though (I'm a visual learner :)
A5) Work out the who and wheres to get information.
Make friends beyond the ed stuff... be human.
Do you mean diversity on a Sunday night in July chatting with other educators? ;-)
A5 - hashtags, avatar recognition of always helpful people, favorite things to come back to later
A5 Spend 10-15 minutes reading just ONE person’s feed, to take a DEEP dive and avoid the shallows. https://t.co/qULXcsjEWH
I'm starting to consult after 15yrs of Experience in Edu, being in the ClassRM + doing WELL.
A5: Focus on the 1 or 2 things you're gonna work at and pare down the follows. I'm at around 30. I actually read everything!
A5: I also, reduced my followers. As I mentioned, Ed is flooded w/ same articles Edsurge, Edutopia, Edweek, his blog, her blog etc
A5 : I use & watch several many lists & accounts, such as , , , , etc.
We always need to remember to be open and learn from others. Wisdom comes from experience.
Gotcha.I also believe the edtech world has yet to really take the leap on discussing diversity in edtech.
A5 I don’t watch the news, I read it, therefore I don’t have to watch commercials AND I can take a deeper dive on a subject.
how do you pay attention to 66 lists, let alone manage them? How many hours do you think that takes?
A5: Focus on building meaningful relationships w/ those whose purpose aligns w/ yours. Focus on building legit connections
I need time to sit down and figure out how to use
Yet another reason I like SocialMedia. I feel it forces me to be a Teacher ALL the time.
1stGr Multitasking= at least 7 things at one time or being a Mom. Since I dont' have my own fam..
I see your point and Twitter can't be the only way we learn, it's a piece of the pie
Me too! Not a huge fan of tweet deck
I don't look at them ALL all of the time. I pick a focus for the time I have https://t.co/NUS8I5BKGd

i wish you the best - sadly though it seems we are losing A LOT of excellent tchrs to consulting
A5 Set time limits, setting time limits reminds us to do what matters instead of letting random stimuli fill our time.
NO! Tweetdeck is making my head swim!
It’d be fun (at least for me!) to see more shares on what we’re learning *off* Twitter.
Great point. But, is focus inherently a bad thing? What if intentionality is at play? Again, desire to be challenged...
Thanks! Now that I'm home I'll be hitting u up!
SuperEasy.
1️⃣Connect SocialMedia Accts on Hootsuite (5min)
2️⃣Compose Tweets
3️⃣Schedule
Mine too, too many moving parts! I like Participate learning for chats.
Q6 We follow people online, because of their job titles. How can we pay attention to values instead of subject areas & Ts levels?
I try to have a purpose when reading online. Use time on treadmill for a specific purpose.
Only when we’re looking for the answers we want to see. Confirmation bias again. That’s not diversity.
A5 - i notice things on twitter & then run to google them to see authenticity (breaking news, etc)
Are you using two columns of for Tweetdeck? It helps. One can keep moving while you read the other.
I need to be better about this. It is midnight after all. But I'm learning so much on Twitter... https://t.co/1MOflq5hej
