I don't know how it gets so messy so quickly?!? Like a tornado every week! :)
-
-
yes I know I blame my husband for the tornado haha!
-
Hey sorry I’m late, how is everyone? What we chatting about today?
-
haaa! And I only have myself to blame! That's the worst part! :)
-
Alec!!! Hello!!! How are you!? Talking "Raising the profile of teachers of Early Years"
-
So just to start us off- I'm sure the choir will agree that first off, the profile actually NEEDS to be raised?!
-
Im great thanks, and yourself? Nice topic idea, be interesting to see what people are saying
-
-
Very well over here! What projects are you into lately?! Always love your projects!
-
Hey I’m good thanks, how are you? School all good?
-
-
yes we need to shout from the rooftops how great we are!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
-
in good yeah just busy busy studying and tweeting at the same time! !
-
-
it is a busy job thats for sure! What are you studying for?
-
Why is it so important that Early Years teachers are supported and respected as experts in the field of education?
-
congratulations, that's an amazing achievment
-
early years educational is arguably the most pivotal part of a child’s education, it can create life long learners
-
Sounds very fun! How are you going to do the space topic?
-
I'm doing my BA in Childhood Practice love it but it's full on at the moment as I'm moving soon too!
-
I am in the process of blacking out my classroom to create an ‘out of this world’ learning experience… photos soon
-
great question! We are a child's first formal educators and many of us have lots of experience and understanding.
-
evening, this is Michelle mum of 3, inclusion obsessive and owner of how is everyone
-
sounds ace! good luck with it all, no way I could teach and study so I take my hat off to you!
-
Lots of people think all we do is play play play play with no regard to actual curriculums or guidelines. Or nurturing children
-
Thank you! :) 3 years for Europe time chat I beleive! Wish I could make your earlier time- still in school here!
-
I am on a high day thanks Susan, my 3 buses came today!
-
It's important because this is a very important year for students as learners. It's their foundation for education
-
hi Michelle! How are you!
-
Q2 What qualities are essential to the professional?
-
thanks! I'll get there eventually!
-
I am great thanks Lyndsey, lots happening, yourself?
-
Hi Michelle! Great to "see you" tonight :)
-
EYFS is birth - 5. It builds everything a child needs for future learning & ch need well qualified Ts
-
A2: compassion, understanding, no embarrassment, fun attitude, ability to play at age appropriate level
-
patience, playfulness and enthusiasm! got to love this profession
-
-
thanks Heidi, should try to get to this hour more but seem to get distracted with
-
haaa! Oh boy a quick glance and I can see why! :) Fun! :)
-
-
RT A2: compassion, understanding, no embarrassment, fun attitude, ability to play at age appropriate level
-
I'm studying pedagogy till June very interesting and very deep!
-
-
has it changed how you interact?
-
Q3: Does the "playfulness" quality somehow not translate to as much intelligence or is as difficult a quality?
-
-
THIS---> RT I'm studying pedagogy till June very interesting and very deep!
-
-
-
A3: academics do not see the relevance of play, yet play based learning is perhaps the most effective form of teaching
-
The playfulness IS PEDAGOGY and is based on research and knowing students vs "a fun, cute job" etc
-
RT A3: academics do not see relevance of play, yet play based learning is perhaps the most effective form of teaching
-
definitely I am much more reflective now and I am understanding that need to step back a bit more
-
Q4: Why is play dismissed as a form of learning compared to "studying", lectures or other forms of learning?
-
-
I would say reflective is a hugely necessary quality for teaching!
-
because in the past teachers have been taught to divulge information for exams instead of let children work it out
-
I completely agree, I am learning to do this with my daughter, sounds very wise
-
Realize there's a bit of preaching to the choir here tonight :) but still an ongoing critical conversation!
-
perhaps it is a failing of our assessment methods, they reward academics over playful creativeness
-
yes I agree it helps me see the whole picture better and understand the dynamics of room better
-
RT because in the past teachers have been taught to divulge information for exams instead of let children work it out
-
huge and important point! That "exam mentality" weights something as "more important" for sure!
-
RT perhaps it is a failing of our assessment methods, they reward academics over playful creativeness
-
-
Q%: Switching gears a bit, how can teachers raise the profile of the profession? Is it our job to do so?
-
it's a shame as all the greats explain that children do need to regurgitate information to understand 1/2
-
-
fun makes anything possible
-
I see this said more in the UK model of education. Americans wouldn't SAY that but we often DO that! :)
-
Ive got to bounce but great to hear from you all, have a great learning week!
-
It's difficult to know where to start in raising the profile but the more people who believe in profession the better
-
You too Alec! Take care- good to see you tonight and good luck w the space theme! :)
-
hello! Lack of understanding, harder to make the "learning visible" through play
-
-
As tech platform/content provider for 9k+ kinder teachers, what can we do to help elevate profile of our teacher users?
-
Yes! I think start w ourselves-showing more of our strengths in areas like pedagogy, research.
-
RT hello! Lack of understanding, harder to make the "learning visible" through play
-
Geoff!!! Hello! :) Is that your gorgeous daughter there?! A beauty! :)
-
RT As tech platform/content provider for 9k+ teachers, what can we do to help elevate profile of teacher users?
-
Fabulous question and THANK YOU for asking!! Wow! Just asking is GREAT! :)
-
Talking to teachers and asking for input is HUGE! So often no connection between product developers and use in room!
-
haa! Ok!! :) I feel better now!! :)
-
I think education has changed in some ways but very slowly, play needs to be featured in policy
-
VERY important 2 us. Spent many months w/ 150+ teachers testing + improving our new Classroom offering
-
Q6: Do you think collaboration and networking with other educators help raise the profile of Early Years educators?
-
Important to keep the conversation going, too! Getting helpful feedback daily :) Teachers rock!
-
exactly time is very important to allow a child time to work something out is key.
-
Fantastic!! Thank you! Love when everyone is working together!
-
-
I think networking & collaborating w/ early years teachers reminds me that they should be paid & honored WAY more
-
for sure having these weekly chats helps all to raise the profile we all love our jobs and strive to be the best!
-
RT I think networking & collaborating w/ early years teachers reminds me that they should be paid & honored WAY more
-
THANK YOU!!! :) We work so hard!! :) Thank you!!!
-
Lastly, Q7: Why is support more helpful than criticism when it comes to improving the teaching Young Children?
-
I think constructive criticism is ok as long as there's support to help with change
-
A4 My lesson plan is 1/2 page, my wife's is 10 pages. People don't value play because they don't understand EC pedagogy
-
Otherwise no one gets anywhere if it's just constant criticism
-
Teaching through critique vs support is difficult and does require open willingness to learn but so much more effective!
-
completely agree people don't understand it!
-
RT A4 My lesson plan is 1/2 page, wife's is 10 pgs. People don't value play because they don't understand EC pedagogy
-
thank goodness there are many that are spreading the word. It's so important
-
yes staff need to be Willian's to up their game and shouldn't get comfortable as it's always changing
-
Agree general public not understanding pedagogy is a problem....need to work on that...hmmm! :) Thank you!!
