The #educoach hashtag is used by instructional coaches around the world. We chat each Wednesday at 8pm CST on Twitter and use the hashtag throughout the week to share resources, ask questions and collaborate with instructional coaches.
Hello #educoach - I'm Kathy! Happy to be here tonight and participating as @lsmith0917 & @kennycmckee co-moderate. My WIN for the week is that I just finished working out in the basement. I got my "excuse" fixed today - my TV hasn't been working. No excuses NOW! #educoachfit
I've been putting it off. Started watching @msrachelhollis#madeformore documentary on Amazon Prime. (I saw it in the theater, but really glad it is now on Prime!) #educoach

Hi! Lauren, instructional coach, Indiana. My #eduwin is finally being back with students and colleagues this week after that cold winter weather last week!! Looking forward to co-moderating with @kennycmckee for tonight’s chat! #educoach
Still time to join in for tonight's #educoach chat - Let’s get started with tonight’s topic: Student Centered Coaching: The Moves - Ch. 6 and 7 #educoach
Q1 The Thinking Aloud move is based on metacognition (the ability of learners to be aware of and monitor their learning processes). Share experience you’ve had with Thinking Aloud (with students or teachers). #educoach
A1: I’ve used think aloud with colleagues when we have been co-teaching together and with students when demonstrating a strategy with mentor texts/pieces. #educoach
A1 I have used Think Alouds for a long time in the classroom. The book Mosaic of Thought, mentioned in Student Center Coaching: The Moves changed the way I taught! Nice to have that connection with @SweeneyDiane & @leannaharris22#educoach
Hello I am Ashton Hawkins and this is my very first twitter chat. I am currently still in college majoring in English minoring in education. I want to become an high school English teacher. I have one semester left! #educoach#Sp19edfb4338
Q1
I am currently working on my very first thinking aloud. It as been a bit difficult but now it’s the third week we’ve been working on them and it has gotten easier. #educoach#Sp19edfb4338
Forgot to introduce - I'm Christina Sweeney a MS learning coach in NY. My coaching win of the week was a meeting we had today with coaches from a neighboring district - very enlightening! And great connections to make! #educoach
A2: It allows for those in the moment coaching conversations to take place. Both coach and teacher are able to make meaning together in real time vs after the fact. #educoach
A2: It illustrates everyone's thought process when it comes to how lessons should constructed and taught. This creates opportunities to consider new perspectives. #educoach
Were these confusing for you when you first started creating them? I am very new to this and just looking for some helpful tips. #educoach#Sp19EDFB4338
A3: I think it comes down to co-planning to co-teach. In that process, everyone has to share their thinking. A coach could also reflect on this experience with the teacher afterward. #educoach
A3: I think that when we take it out of teaching it can be helpful: Think of something you're really comfortable doing. Now, don't tell someone how to do it, but tell them how YOU are doing it #educoach

A4 I think clear learning targets and goals will keep the think aloud focused, which is why the targets and goals are so foundational to coaching. #educoach
A4 It is important to keep the targets and goals "on the table". They ground the reflection and planning. Without them conversations can go in many directions. Keep the main thing, the main thing! #educoach
A4: There has to be clarity within intended learning to spur focused and aligned think alouds. Otherwise, your end goals become skewed and lack clarity. #educoach
Think alouds take time. We first need to watch what we do as readers or writers (in your case of teaching HS English). When you read/write something take time to notice how you comprehend/tackle text. Watch how you express yourself in writing. This is the foundation. #educoach
A5: I think it's also powerful at the very beginning of a cycle/unit. If you have a quality pre-assessment, you can sort it to see how to prioritize the LTs #educoach
What Leanna said! Always new opportunities for growth. The alignment you mentioned is so important! It helps connect all of the pieces together to drive meaningful actions. 😊 #educoach

We focused on learning targets for about 4 years before we saw them being used in most classrooms. It is a ripple effect though - especially when teachers see that targets can empower students. #educoach
A6 When coaching teaching I like to have at lease two data points. Example if T wants me to collect student engagement data, Ts also collect content data (such as a writing prompt). In our debriefing we sort both sets of data to see what it reveals and plan next steps. #educoach
We’ve used student work at the start of many of our units of study. It has provided the initial pathway toward responsive instruction as well as determining LTs. #educoach
A6: In my coaching, the teacher and I always try to ground our next steps not only with the the intending goals and LTs, but also student works. Provides a results orientation of student evidence and allows us to see student strengths and areas of opportunity. #educoach
Q7 On page 115 the authors share a 4-Square planner. How have you used this approach? Or what other tips do you have to use when Sorting Student Work? #educoach
I typically start with asking the teacher what he/she would like me to collect. One example was "opportunities to respond." In that case I tallied those opportunities for the teacher. #educoch
A7 We've done something like the 4-Square Planner when sorting student data such as on a screener. We look at areas like accuracy, fluency, comprehension so that we have a clearer idea of needs. #educoach
A8: The targets help us determine the criteria for success which enables us to see how students are progressing and think about other supports. #educoach
A8: Alignment with intended learning outcomes. It provides a clear purpose when sorting student work which results in instructional moves correlated back to goals and LTs. It is all connected. #educoach
Q9 What question(s) do you have for @sweeneydiane. She is doing a Q/A type Vlog every Friday. #educoach Use #SCCquestions to catch her attention. Feel free to ask @leannaharris22 your questions since she is with us tonight! :) #educoach
