Monday 9-10 p.m. EST. Building a Culture of Learning. "We invite all educators, parents, students and any member of a school community to join our mission of moving away from compliance to create and foster a true COL."
A1. First, we need to know where we want to go. As a school family, what do we want? What’s our vision? If we don’t know collectively where we want to go, it will be difficult. Are we all going to take the same road or are we able to take paths we are comfortable with? #COLchat
A1: We know we are on the right road by paying attention to the signs - formative assessment results, student questions, data, smiles, nodding or shaking heads, etc. #COLchat
A1: I think you gage how it is going by a feeling. Is the classroom atmosphere welcoming? Do kids feel like they can drop by in between classes to say hi? Are all kids welcome, not just your students that you have now. #COLchat
@dakotahcooper always asked me to think of who we want our Ss to be when they leave our class. Stuck w me, if they are working on being better people, then whether they r better musicians #COLchat

A2: We have to listen to each other without judgement and remember we are all working toward the same goal. "None of us is as smart as all of us." #COLchat
A2. Putting “multiple brains” together and listening to other people’s ideas can make for a collectively smarter school. What’s smart for our school may not be smart for another. #COLchat
A2: I always learn the most from my colleagues. They get me excited and ready to try new things. We pump each other up! I couldn’t teach effectively if it wasn’t for them. #COLchat
A1: I think having the destination in mind is the key. The path may be a straight shot or meander (my lessons often have round abouts on their way to completion) check back often to see that everyone is on the same road. Let students figure out their path on their pace #COLchat

A3. Always having the best interests of your students and team in mind. Whether you’re teaching our leading, you can't do either before building a relationship and trust. Teaching and leading with heart involves a passion. With heart, we can serve those around us? #COLchat
A3: I think an important part of being in front of kids is being real. Showing them who you are and what you care about. I care about them and I tell them. I show them: ask about their day, random candy or cookies, checking in when it looks like they need it. #COLchat
A4. Our experiences and the lessons we’ve learned in life can give us courage. For some people, faith can play a very big part in giving us the courage to do the work we are called to do. #COLchat
A2: I think smarter needs to be qualified. Book smarts are great but without context means little. Street smarts are great for experiences to make connections to, but without skills to communicate it means little. Putting these smarts 2gthr and we can get somewhere. #COLchat
A4: I said this on my interview & it is still true 11 yrs later. I want to be able to look back on my life & say that I tried to make the world better. Create a space for kids to feel safe & cared for. I want to be a person that they can trust. Help them find their joy #COLchat
A4: My courage as an educator comes from knowing that what we do makes a difference in the lives of children and that our influence has a ripple effect that impacts the future. #COLchat

Q5: In the future for some of them to see just how great their lives will be. Sometimes we can see it & they can’t. Have them see what I see in them. #COLchat
Completely agree. I am not always the most delicate when it comes to feedback with assignments but I have students tell me all the time that they appreciate my genuine feedback and dialogue #COLchat
It would be something if our own children and our students could see what we try to explain to them! I guess they gotta figure some of it out on their own. :) #COLchat
A5: I would want to take our students someplace safe from fears and ridicule - a place were kindness and empathy define the environment and a place where everybody has a fair chance. #COLchat

A6. Perhaps I should have clarified whether or not the “Wonderful Wizard” of education was involved in some of the “Yellow Tape Policies" of ed.. In my mind though, the “Wonderful Wizard” of education only controls the GOOD "Yellow Brick Road" ideas! lol #COLchat
Q7: The ability to be better at all my roles in life at the same time. When one role is strong, the others are lacking. It can be hard to juggle it all. Mom, wife, daughter, teacher, friend, my own person. #COLchat
Courage is just another way of saying willing to take risks. Between growth mindset and finding new ways to introduce lessons and school in general I love this one best of all #COLchat
A7: Dorothy was a leader who remained focused on the goal, persevered, and encouraged her team in order to bring out the best in each of them. #COLchat
A7she built relationship, lead her team toward a goal, made space for each memebef to lead and be important, and tried to understand where every character came from, even if it was totally different than where she came from #COLchat

A6: I think resources would be great, but I think I would trade that for @tomhanks to make regular stops by the class to share some cool history stories would be great. Lol #COLchat
A8. Listen as much as I can. Everyone needs something a little different. I’ll do my best to meet the needs of the whole group little by little. #COLchat
