#MasteryChat is a weekly chat with a growing family of educators from around the word focused on teaching better and reaching more students.     A1 - All time - Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut. Read it at 15 and read it about once a year still. It just resonated with me in so many ways. Recently, the Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu was a masterclass in combining SciFi and real science in a great plot. #MasteryChat

    A2: I would write these weird pseudo-comics. They would be these scenes, almost like video game levels. I would draw the main character at the start (something awesome like a ninja obviously), and then draw him advancing through "stages" and beating up bad guys. #masterychat

    I notice this so often, too. We learn from writing beside good examples, beautiful words, and powerful mentors. Generating writing is difficult work, but if students can see examples, their writing abilities grow. #masterychat

    A4: We talked about this in terms of Successes and Failures. I shared a failure in my teaching today and then a success watching their learning. When we shared out they chose to share their failures and what they learned from failing, making it a success in the end. #MasteryChat

    I really enjoy reading Flying Solo by Ralph Fletcher to my groups. Read it to a group of 6th grade boys a few years back and they completely related, saw peers as charaters along with themselves. It was great. #MasteryChat
