Monthly Twitter chats on topics of interest to educators who want to share ideas, build their professional learning networks, connect and converse about tech in NYC Schools.
One of the last twitter chats, I believe I was on the E or the F. At least this time, it’s a tiny bit more comfy and yes our work is never done! #NYCSchoolsTechChat

It’s respect for all week and I helped our school team develop some thoughtful and engaging lessons. We’ll be showing videos, doing community circles, and helping students see the importance of including others. #NYCSchoolsTechChat

In my classroom we use @RemindHQ so the kids will make voice notes (AAC or with their own) for their parents, we also made shrinky dink’s, and cards with @boardmaker symbols. #NYCSchoolsTechChat

A1: Does not celebrating Valentine’s Day even in my personal life count as innovative? I’ve never done a Valentine’s Day thing. Organizing assemblies for other holidays, but not that. Though I’m apparently spending that day ‘falling in love with @Promethean#NYCSchoolsTechChat

@Flipgrid An activity where students will share one thing they learned from their peers, and/or teachers! Promoting self reflection and thanking others for helping helping them grow as students and productive community members.

A1 it’s the 100th day of school! Let’s celebrate that! I’d work with students to collaborate on a 100 things we love about ourselves. #NYCSchoolsTechChat
Q2 Learning is at the top of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. How are you ensuring your students feel a sense of love and belonging in your classroom? #NYCSchoolsTechChat

I try to create a space of exploration but also expectations. Failure is ok, respect is key, everyone explores/learns/fails/iterates slightly differently. It’s fine to fail as long as you learn from it and are respectful of other’s process #NYCSchoolsTechChat

A2 - A sense of community is important. Frequent check-ins, grouping students based on learning and social needs. More importantly, acknowledging Ss and being interested in what they have to say. #NYCSchoolstechchat

A3: I try to make it clear there’s a purpose to what they/we/I do... it’s not just about a single lesson but 6 years of building something together. It’s giving them that foundation for their own ownership of their learning #NYCSchoolsTechChat

A3 My school implements PBIS. We celebrate student of the month with a certificate and a gift. I celebrate good behavior and class work with food events. Kids like it #nycschoolstechchat
Saying hi to each kid off the bus, we do barbecues in the summer, we also celebrate special events together as a site (if a child celebrates their birthday, they will bring extra cake all around). #NYCSchoolsTechChat

Such a great idea. I love using @Flipgrid for my students to work out problems between each other. They can record how they feel when they are angry and then respond to each other until they are ready to talk face to face. #NYCSchoolsTechChat

We use @RemindHQ when kids are sick to send messages or cards to say we hope you feel better. We all used @Flipgrid for our reading corner. Parents read a fairytale and acted it out with their kids. We have a QR code for kids to watch/listen #NYCSchoolsTechChat

A4 - Social media is a great way of creating an environment of belonging, especially when it is done in the classroom or for special events. It gives students special recognition and a sense of being special. @twitter@instagram@facebook#nycschoolstechchat
A5: I mentioned family nights with shared meals, but even parent tech trainings have been a popular way to bring in parents and students to learn about what the other does online. #NYCSchoolsTechChat
A5- I send out a monthly newsletter to check in with parents, and all the parents know that they will receive a timely response from a teacher when they email them through @ioeducation. #NYCSchoolsTechChat
A5: Don’t know if it’s innovative but I answer parent emails as quick as I can, invite parents in, tweet and blog to share what we’re doing. Being accessible. #nycschoolstechchat
A5: Our school hosts an international night where all our families come together to share traditional dishes, outfits, and dances. It’s so much fun and so many raffles throughout the night. #NYCSchoolsTechChat
