The first Twitter edchat in the Philippines, helping teachers grow their PLN, use tech in the classroom and promoting a culture of teachers helping teachers.
“…Moreover, in the past 15 years, researchers have been releasing alarming statistics on a sharp and steady increase in kids’ mental illness, which is now reaching epidemic proportions…” #edchatphhttps://t.co/m9zLi1nygK
Thank you for the sharing. The ideas are so fresh and encouraging. We find that in #edchatPH we all share similar footprints in making sure that our young people get the best education that we can offer... that’s why we discuss best practices. Hoping for the best.
We are actually in a PD now with hundreds of teachers. What a day for learning. #edchatPH I'm on the left and @pdelrosario17 beside me.
Have a great week ahead!
To @ManishaMonga1 - shout out for reminding us that we can helping remove stigma about mental health by educating all our students. We can help increase their level of support and understanding for their classmates. #edchatPH
A3 The approach should be proactive - not reactive. Embedded into class communities and time given to pause, creflect and relate to self and others. Make it a way of life/thought. Teach the soft skills explicitly! #edchatPH
a1. #edchatph As adults in strong social roles we often feel frustrated that our mental health or wellness is not being considered. Imagine how an adolescent might feel who is yet to grow/mature into our roles? The stress is 10x bigger and so needs 10x more caring.
a2. #edchatph Teen stress needs someone to listen to them rather hand out solutions. So if I've seen a kid struggling through some stuff I've spent plenty of time listening to him/her about it before approaching more professional support. This has established trust+ good info.
a3. #edchatph Listen, observe, reflect. Teens dont put all messages in words. Body lang, silence, even submitted work or absences are signs. As educators we find ways to keep connecting with the kid. Let them know we are there if they need us. But @ the same time not overdo it.
