Glean other ideas to implement in our local school. and are 2 examples
A2.2 Getting advice on some type of challenge you're currently facing and overcoming it
A2. Taking the information that we learn "here" and share it with our school teams, committees, staff, etc...
A2: Accountability is strengthened as well as the ability to consider multiple perspectives.
Q3 Coming up in 1 minute...
TRUTH! All leaders (everyone) strengthened https://t.co/2OBIuiu4Fa
A2: What aspect of leadership wouldn't be strengthened with a support network to catch you and propel you further?
A2: increase in growth mindset language, change or adaptions in daily routines, greater time in reflection
Great point! allows us to vet ideas b4 implementation & hear exps of other school, use their reflect to guide ideas
Identify and build on meaningful traditions to enhance a positive culture rather than compete with them
I like the contrast between lateral and vertical pressure. Lateral is more supportive i.e. we are all on the same level
A2: World of experience & resources. Wanted to publish student art & found it through Twitter contact! https://t.co/MoXVOUydDD

A2. To challenge those around you to take the next steps in "creating change".
A2-I learn so many leadership ideas from my PLN. Wouldn't be the same without them!
Was just thinking that my connections with great educators can't take precedence over my connections with my students.
kindness, support and encouragement
A2: Modeling learning from others And Sharing. Open door leadership, I do not have all the answers I am looking for them!
A2 Stop calling yourself a 'leader'. If we're all leaders word is rendered meaningless
a2. I think being connected enables us to look outward for answers instead of always having to look inward. My PLN is smart!
Q3: How is collective decision making via PLN diff. than traditional "shared decision making?" https://t.co/NcyDKIx5jk
Q3: How is collective decision making via PLN diff. than traditional "shared decision making?" https://t.co/J6K73uORh2
A2 Gaining insights, collaboration of ideas/thoughts and reflection on a problem or initiative for informed decision making.
A2: Any and all. Connectivity provides the pulse to know what will work, the voices for investment, and the power for change.
A2: I fear entering interview season bc there r many district ldrs around here who don't even know what PLN stands for... *sigh
A2. Often nonverbal cues of others impair our ability to really listen and consider. We get better at building consensus.
So true. I know so many by Twitter handle. Love and conferences when we meet.
A2: Innovation, passion for learning, and a growth mindset.
A2: gaining various perspectives....seeing things through the lens of others
A2 leadership, learning, growth all about relationships.Connections the most integral catalysts to successful endeavors in each
A2: Connectivity allows us to create hope for the future, and assist others in seeing the way forward.
Yes! https://t.co/8pKLdQq9bP

Yes! Being connected should be differentiated & social media provides numerous platforms.
Great point! More listening without distractions! https://t.co/lvdHZ5eneq
A2. Connectivity cultivates our ability to consider other points of view w/o body lang, facial expressions impairing listening
A3.1 IDK - looking forward to what the group says
A2: I initially took to Twitter and blogging to work on clarifying my communication. So happy I stumbled into the community!
Without connectivity the light cannot turn on...learning and connectivity go hand-in-hand.
A3: Idea bouncing always make things better. Learn from others and make it better.
A3: To avoid GroupThink, we must provide many channels for constructive dissenting voices - Tw does this best.
A2: feedback: What am I doing well? What do I need to work on? Professional reflections.
PLN takes us from Good to Great!
A2 Iron Sharpens Iron! Being connected has exposed me to new POVs & different ways of leading.
Agree, Jeff. We must seek our colleagues experiences and use them to bolster our practice
A3.2 Could it be PLN decisions are more diverse since we are connected via Twitter Voxer, etc. and not through the school?
A3) My PLN offers a variety of perspectives from different countries, states, districts that make me look at the bigger picture.
Agree! Meaningful feedback is so important for growth!
🎯 Aaron! That's the real question & answer!
Traditional shared decision making is limited b/c it usually is w/ others who have same experiences. A PLN brings variety.
A2 (pt2): Everything is strengthened through connectivity - It helps us be mindful with all we do...
A2: Wooden talked abt the FOUNDATION of the Pyramid as Friendship, Loyalty, Cooperation (ie connection) https://t.co/vSEcPJTCjH
I think you're right- goes both ways too interviewers don't value someone that says I'm a connected educator
A3.3 A PLN decision is a decision based on "enrollment." I chose to participate via I was asked or made to participate
Hahahaha! This is totally true for me.
A3 mining a PLN in the decision-making process allows for varying perspectives from those not directly/emotionally involved.
A3 there is no prejudice to some extent and it's open to all possibilities a massive brainstorming process
A3: wow.....have to process this one for a moment....
A3: Students also need to practice seeking and hearing dissenting voices. Social pressure is on conformity, not exploration.
Reflection is critical. I think this is where we're pushed to analyze strengths and areas for growth.
Look forward to opportunities for meeting in person and have built true friendships from being here! https://t.co/GTzNYAne1w
So true. I know so many by Twitter handle. Love and conferences when we meet.
A3) Collective decision making: It's about sharing "ideas" and honoring the process. It's as much about the journey as arriving.
It's tough when that's ur greatest strength & many don't even know what it means.
Sure, does. Like a runaway chain reaction!
A2: support to grow through failures and also successes. Having others out there in support of pushing the bar higher.
Very frustrating- bit like the loneliness of leadership- waiting for others to understand & support you. https://t.co/5tuZOG9n3P
A2 Wish our SD admin team would connect. Very few are and it would be so nice to share and collaborate.
A3: Broadening of perspectives beyond traditional boundaries.
A3 We won’t get critical thinking in the classroom if we do not model it as leaders/teachers.
https://t.co/9td2zVNAUv
Joining late- Good Morning! A3: PLN is objective & gives diff angle or view point on decision
A3. You have a different level of accountability and eagerness to learn and create change here.
However, your connection w/ educators can positively influence your connection w/ Ss.
When others share a different perspective based on different experiences, the value and quality of ideas increases.
Well thank you, my friend! https://t.co/Tezhz670Oc
Glean other ideas to implement in our local school. and are 2 examples
A3: This is when becomes a powerful tool for a PLN...gives voice and opportunity to share, challenge, & discuss options
SO excited to go to First timer.
A3: So one of our district PL teams has started using Voxer; it allows us to contribute to ideas long after the meeting ends.
A2 I’ve been challenged to think differently about my work as a leader… Beyond the typical boarders. Makes me better every day!
A3: You'll be certain to have a VARIETY of USEFUL perspectives!
A3: Collect=to gather Share=to give Gathering requires more listening than talking.
A3: I tend to think bigger/bolder w/my ; traditional shared decision making full of more push back & excuses why NOT to...
We gain invaluable perspective w/PLN b/c of group diversity & space from issues.
A3: Often, your PLN is removed from your work on the ground, but as a result they can provide meaningful, necessary perspective
Those outside perspectives and observations are cubical and critical for me!
A3 I think we all have ppl in our PLNs with whom we disagree. It's the only way we can grow our thinking.
Most frustrating is that they don't understand the learning and growth that occurs with PLN- no comprehension
Tw? please clarify https://t.co/rVv4g1TO0u
A3: To avoid GroupThink, we must provide many channels for constructive dissenting voices - Tw does this best.
A3 PLN is a safe platform for a voice including parents and students when making major decisions.
Mike or Amy can you add Christine to the Voxer group please?
A3: Different perspective(s). If I ask a person in my not at my campus, they have a different lens. https://t.co/R9XRCKZWvD
Q3: How is collective decision making via PLN diff. than traditional "shared decision making?" https://t.co/J6K73uORh2
A3. You are with like-minded edus..meaning we are here to continue to improve the educational process, Even if we disagree.
A3: twitter is based on conversation and equal voice. Shared decision making starts with stratified voice you try to make equal.
You got it. They go hand in hand don't they.
RTQ3: How is collective decision making via PLN diff. than traditional "shared decision making?" https://t.co/DFBXFIA5S2
I strongly agree. https://t.co/ViJjtmknYj
A3.2 Could it be PLN decisions are more diverse since we are connected via Twitter Voxer, etc. and not through the school?
A2-I feel that my ability to advocate for kids and best practices has greatly evolved since becoming connected
A2 Leaderdship is ,,,,,.....
A3: 1 still remains inside building - similar experiences, history, successes, failurs. The other is beyond building - much diff
A2: Communication (sharing & listening) improves with Connectivity, and being connected helps keep our minds open to new ideas
A strong network that propels us forward! Love my PLN! https://t.co/CfxFDrHHDM
A2-I learn so many leadership ideas from my PLN. Wouldn't be the same without them!
please add Samantha to the Voxer group
Strong, well-connected PLNs keep us fighting the right fight for students. Lead smart, lead fearlessly! https://t.co/ZBuOrmd41D
A3. There is merit in debating educational pedagogy.
Agreed that principalship is a lonely place at times- this group keeps me focused.
Sooooo bummed I am missing at but I can't see it is on FIRE!!
A3: Gaining perspective and ideas from people outside of our boxes, that could see many other possibilities.
A3 with an environment of trust and collaboration, discussions and decisions lead to growth
a3. With a PLN there are no constraints and no time limits. The best and most innovative ideas always win. No politics
A3-I feel that perspectives via different locations and experiences with differing stakeholders has opened my eyes
A3:"Outsider" perspectives in PLN where "shared" is in house. Question being how do we break a closed envelope in our schools?
A3: we look internally when we need to look externally for ideas. PLNs can break the "we've always done it this way mentality.
No doubt someone out there is doing or has done the things we are wondering about. A PLN gives an edu power.
A2 Connectivity can expose you to situations you never considered and offer leadership techniques for successful outcomes.
A3 PLN decisions don't involve the baggage that slow down & are part of many school decisions bc we are focused on issue not ind
A3 Without face to face we loose some of the key relationship components - need to include video/audio https://t.co/mBR8McOeIP
Q3: How is collective decision making via PLN diff. than traditional "shared decision making?" https://t.co/J6K73uORh2
A3 The enriches the process: there are debates, questions, what ifs, have we thought abouts, would we consider....
Those outside perspectives & observations are crucial & critical to me. https://t.co/YRineOdyeR
A3 mining a PLN in the decision-making process allows for varying perspectives from those not directly/emotionally involved.
A3: Nothing can beat Global collective decision making. The diverse perspectives are unparalleled!
Hi Sean, great to see you! I can see them being mutually inclusive and both strengthening at the same time. .
A3 I've found that my Twitter PLN is much more informed on pressing issues than any other source I have.
A3: Reality is PLN allows you to dream & think through ideas w/out judgement on a global scale. https://t.co/Z6TJME9rqC
Q3: How is collective decision making via PLN diff. than traditional "shared decision making?" https://t.co/J6K73uORh2
Yes...getting beyond our borders...PLNs can function as a cross cultural exchange without ever leaving home.
A3) Collective: all share honestly--experience and vision. Shared: people afraid to offer alternate way of thinking
Wish I was going! No travel in my short term plans! 😕
A3-A PLN offers such a variety of ideas from variety of backgrounds. Opens avenues not traditionally viewed or possible!
PLN can also challenge you in a way out of love and truth that is challenging to get at school
A connected leader may potentially bring higher quality ideas to problems, b/c he/she isn't limited by a singular experience
PLN increases stakeholders with innovative ideas to challenge the though process
- Always happy to be here. Thanks for your leadership!
A3: PLNs allow us to go beyond the walls of our school & district to gather diverse insight globally
A3: it's the perspective of those "outside the bubble" that allows for growth and unbiased input
A3 PLN feedback is more objective and honest. No one has a stake in agreeing with you or supporting your ideas.
A3 - The abundance of varying perspectives, VOICE from all and opportunity to synthesize allows for rich thinking!
A3: See Adam Grant’s wonderful new book “Originals” for ideas on how leaders encourage divergent thinking.
A3: Crowdsourcing can bring more experience to the table and fresh ideas. That mix is magic.
I have just recently started trying out https://t.co/WAvOvLh3gM
A3: So one of our district PL teams has started using Voxer; it allows us to contribute to ideas long after the meeting ends.
A3: The PLN the purest form of decision making bc it isn't tied to a building. Also we're here for similar reasons, not forced
Could not agree more! FANTASTIC read. https://t.co/NGP9MORhyS
A3: See Adam Grant’s wonderful new book “Originals” for ideas on how leaders encourage divergent thinking.
Throwing this out PLN-Have any of you ever joined with another school for a twitter chat staff meeting?
Intimidation is also not a factor in the decision making process in a PLNS. There is open discussion and honest feedback
So true! Audience is global - follow-through is transparent!
Let's teach from the heart and not from the book or to the test. This leads to lifelong learning
I can DM Tweeps in PLN for advice
the field is level with a PLN. At there is no hierarchy. Regardless of being a great teacher leader to Super.
A3: It's very much about perspective, voice and the ability to challenge ideas the right way to grow the capacity of team.
My favorite and always will be! A lot to learn about leadership from Braveheart.
THAT is an awesome idea! Power of the PLN strikes again! https://t.co/3LFB3DmuEb
Throwing this out PLN-Have any of you ever joined with another school for a twitter chat staff meeting?
Yes-outside eyes can often see what we miss or might not want to see https://t.co/IWxG3da80r
A3: it's the perspective of those "outside the bubble" that allows for growth and unbiased input
A3 decisions could be more "real" because ppl r more comfortable speaking their truth & ideas in a PLN
A3 A PLN brings diversity to the table. We contribute a variety of insights from all positions in education.
took my PLN to a new level! Game-changer! https://t.co/prUlAtlFSM
A3: This is when becomes a powerful tool for a PLN...gives voice and opportunity to share, challenge, & discuss options
Interesting lateral thinking you are proposing here! Nice!
Q4 Coming up in 1 minute...
Soo true!! My PLN & people I turn to are not even in my district, or even state! Allows outsider POV. https://t.co/fleRxNRDNO
A3: Often, your PLN is removed from your work on the ground, but as a result they can provide meaningful, necessary perspective
A3 Need to be more 'critical' of leadership fetish & vocabulary - what exactly have you led or do you lead?
and borders are often times just the walls of our buildings. Ts and As are afraid of the unknown outside those borders!
Me also! Baby steps! https://t.co/unA0pzNqb6
I have just recently started trying out https://t.co/WAvOvLh3gM
A3: So one of our district PL teams has started using Voxer; it allows us to contribute to ideas long after the meeting ends.
A3: (con't) Collective Decision Making is limited by state/district goals/mandates/politics. https://t.co/Z6TJME9rqC
Q3: How is collective decision making via PLN diff. than traditional "shared decision making?" https://t.co/J6K73uORh2
LOVE using - lots of rich convos!
A3 (con) People here are more open to new "outside" ideas, and therefore usually more knowledgeable and flexible.
DUDE!! That's awesome!! Leadership at HOME where it counts the most!
While experience is important, we must recognize its limiting nature. Establishing a PLN helps work against this. Expands minds!
A3: concentric circles. PLC around the outside, traditional on the inside.
Yes! It's great to have an international lens to look through too - new ideas! https://t.co/X60PDxil4Y
So true! Audience is global - follow-through is transparent!
A3 Tapping into a network gives you more leeway to adapt leadership actions that work and discard others you don't care for.
Yep! Thankful for our connection through and the way it pushes my thinking forward!
Like the insert of "globally" here, Adrian. Helps remind us of the limitless connections we have
Nicely said! https://t.co/akx9NVIndI
A3: Often, your PLN is removed from your work on the ground, but as a result they can provide meaningful, necessary perspective
Yes, very good point! And hopefully translate some of those dreams into practice
Q4: PLNs influence extends via storytelling. How will u create opportunities to tell stories? https://t.co/Jzbs3ZyKGr
Q4: PLNs influence extends via storytelling. How will u create opportunities to tell stories? https://t.co/6ZrEMuMLAP
Wouldn't that be cool!?!? https://t.co/uRrv8VPOn1
Throwing this out PLN-Have any of you ever joined with another school for a twitter chat staff meeting?
A3 The wide base of knowledge, experiences & perspectives a PLN offers allows insights/ideas which wouldn't arise traditionally
A3 If you intoduced yourself to me as a 'leader', I'd think you were the opposite.
No, Have you? How was it?
A3: never thought of the difference-I would say collective is receiving ideas from all participants before decisions R made.
This is why Google Hangouts & are so awesome!
Bittersweet missing these next few days, but get to work with some AWESOME students for Super Saturdays https://t.co/L74eB9h1X4
A3. PLN groups help catapult us to the next level of PLN work.
Agreed - great ex of how we shift that paradigm towards to edu, how can we promote that mindset?
A3 Collective decision making via PLN provides wealth of eclectic ideas and perspectives to take and mold into personal plan.
A4: Leaders have to be seeking out (& writing our own) stories that need to be told. We have to drive the story that's out there
I find that I choose mostly 2 read bks written by I respect, follow & learn from/with on line https://t.co/ivAKki9bVR
A2: Many things I do I've learned directly or indirectly from my connections. Most books I've read come from these gr8 minds
A4: Take it from a statistician - there is always a “story behind the numbers” - put a face, name, and heart to the data.
Right, Bridget. A "fresh set of eyes" helps us build on more possibilities
A4: Follow the lead of so many others here. Write about it, share it, engage in , notice things, reflect intentionally
Absolutely. I make it a point to follow Ed leaders as well as pre-service teachers.
This is the truth! You always inspire, Marlena!
Exactly! PLN can help problem solve best way to put dreams in action w/district/school limits.
A3 broader spectrum of ideas since PLN spans the globe- not caught in TTWWADI!
RIGHT!! I get lost all the time! So many great topics, people and side conversations!!
A4: Power of a hashtag has led to incredible opportunities to grow & share:
A4) We need to break the myth that telling/sharing stories is not bragging or boasting but reflecting & teaching.
Our biggest mistake as leaders can be thinking we must have the answer to all asked of us. There is value in not knowing.
Great conversation, all! About to have breakfast and head out for the day. Have a great week on purpose, leaders!
Thanks - thinking this way helps me with my growth mindset - I like how you compared it to "limitless connections"
Truth! I learn new things daily from my PLN (& hopefully contribute a little myself) https://t.co/PfIYR94AKH
A3 I've found that my Twitter PLN is much more informed on pressing issues than any other source I have.
A3. Collective deciison making can be very powerful with your PLN.
no I need to check it out
A3: I'm gonna sit this one out...I need a sub to go in for me on this play. Too many words in my head
Honored to be part of such a dynamic group of
No I haven't, but would love to.
A3 PLN allows us to be challenged. Its real, relevant & authentic, while leaving archaic practices & processes behind.
Hello Kevin! You have to have heart! Absolutely!
A3) Purpose: acquire to apply so the students & educators in my district benefit.
I am a fan of observing blabs... Haven't jumped into participating in one yet...
no joke. Seriously great stuff though. Hate to miss a thing. Opp of last PD attended where I counted minutes.
Dr. D speaks the truth - the leader who knows all the answers stops important conversations.
A3 I think words 'leader' & 'collective' in same sentence is dissonant
A3 Spirit of collaboration dominates the effort - no ego and need to be 'right' helps move decisions.
The tribe rejuvenates and provides strength in our daily endeavors!
A3: Actively seeking a PLN implies you have a growth mindset and want to learn from others.
I love the variety in all of my s! Especially love when they merge!
Saying "I don't know" and seeking solutions from my PLN has lead to some of the most powerful solutions. Can't do it alone.
I would love to hear about how you would plan to do that.
A-your PLN allows you to bring in different perspectives from outside your district/circle of influence https://t.co/p8HhmB1G0X
A3: Decisions informed by a PLN look past the particulars that may bias an in-house decision. We look at situations, not names
This is a mic drop situation right here! Wow! https://t.co/qlnAfBSmmJ
Our biggest mistake as leaders can be thinking we must have the answer to all asked of us. There is value in not knowing.
A4 I'm also flirting with and , but not sure about the timing
LOL! How do we get is sooooo wrong! You might think we would BOSS in designing AWESOME learning experiences right!!
A3. Discourse and decision making will be enhanced.

I do share what I'm proud of, but it's also sharing with others and getting feedback to grow. https://t.co/ne3W5Adi2Y
A4) We need to break the myth that telling/sharing stories is not bragging or boasting but reflecting & teaching.
I love listening to the Better Leader Better Schools podcast...great stories & ideas from great leaders! https://t.co/cSxMZamvFL
A4-Take notice in the moments around you. Stories are all around. Write it! Tweet it! It's not promoting. It's sharing!
Interesting thought... I have not, but am intrigued how that might look.
