Q1: We often overlook giving ourselves time to reflect. What are some ways you have been able to give pause and reflect?
(i.e. working out, walking, driving, meditating, etc) #cuechat#CUEldi
A1) I think I am like most, in that getting off that hamster wheel is hard. When I do, I really enjoy the pause and opportunity for reflection. My best places are in the car & working in my garden (here’s some of my greens from this summer) #cuechat
A1: I have a job that requires me to drive a lot. I find time alone in the car gives me the time to reflect. I also like going out on walks, unplugged. #cuechat

It is also when I do most of my podcast listening - which is one of my favourite things. (FYI - that means favorite for all my American friends) #cuechat
A1 I used to use @voxer to think and reflect, but there's nothing like driving your son to and from your own HS to help you reflect on what you and your co-workers are doing daily for students and your community #cuechat
Yay!!!! David made the chat!
I am in the same boat this year. My drive time is now about my daughter and I talking and debating about Broadway Musicals #cuechat
Q2: Have you tried putting “pen to paper” and documenting your thoughts? Some try to journal, some blog and others podcast, to name a few.
If not, what might be something you are interested in trying?
#cuechat#CUEldi
A1 I either swim or hike every morning and that gives me time each am to reflect back on the past day(s) and gives me an opportunity to get the brain ticking for the day ahead#CUEchat... the shirt below is our new version of our #failforward shirt

Funny enough I try to do a
blog post every work day in November (#NaBloWritMo). I stick to EdTech stuff mostly but have used it for reflection in other times. I also did some weekly #sketchnote reflections for a while. Really liked that. #cuechat

A1: I’ve recently begun journaling immediately after class, making a point of documenting both what needs improvement AND what went well in my class. I’ve found this time to be incredibly enlightening. #cuechat

Hey y'all! Sorry I'm late to #cuechat, but super stoked to be here! I'm Valerie & I'm a middle school STEM teacher. I love a puffy chocolate croissant. *mmm*#wearecue
A2: I blog! Was just having a chat with a colleague earlier this evening - I am an introvert...so writing really helps me synthesize and get my feelings out on paper. It helps me make sense of things when I get upset. Writing is everything. #cuechat
A2) I try to blog (I use Weebly) and have had varying degrees of consistency. But it's my podcast (Check This Out… shameless plug) with @bribriggs where I am more consistent. #cuechat
A2) But to be honest, it is in the actual writing of a blog, more than talking in a podcast, where I feel I am more reflective and introspective. It's the TIME put into each word of the writing process which is truly special #cuechat

A1: Part 2 - I listen to classical music on my drive into work because, without words compelling me to sing along, I find myself much more mindful about preparing for my day. #cuechat

A2: Aubrey and from Alberta, sorry for jumping in late and really want to get into writing and as soon as I decide on a format of blog etc, I see a new style I like too and I now have it narrowed down to approx 10 styles and tomorrow it will probably be 35 after this #cuechat😂
A2: As I mentioned in the previous Q/A, I’ve been keeping a journal of my day’s work. I used to try to blog, but felt too much pressure to make it look nice and perfect before sharing. #cuechat
Q3: We often learn by looking at others. Keeping this in mind, who are some educators that you look to - read their reflections or listen to their ruminations? Share them here: https://t.co/GesSVAvTAg
and on the Twittersphere using these hastags!
#cuechat#CUEldi#BetterTogether
A3: there are many educators that I look up too. My #cue#edumatch family has changed my teaching for the better. My #plf and #PLN peeps know who they are that inspire me all the time! #cuechat
Word. I realize that I look for perfection when blogging, too. Making sure that all the punctuation, grammar, etc is correct. The "published" side of this is a bit stressful. Hahahaha #cuechat

#CUEchat A1a That little voice.. on the long #roadtrips home. I should listen to it less; Mrs and others suggest putting analysis & decisions down to paper, pro & con column.
A3: @KellyGToGo has been big for me the last two years. My wife is also a teacher, so I love hearing her process her work. I just enjoyhearing and seeing what everybody does. #cuechat
A3: Part 2 - I’m lucky I get to work with @KevinKkiernan who I admire for his ability I take everything in stride and always has positive things to say, somehow. #cuechat
#CUEchat A2a Lately I’ve been using @myramade system shared at #Realities360.. what can you do in a given amount of time? what ends up nice to know but can’t be applied with your resources.
You cannot compare your middle to someone else's end. Make your journey YOUR journey (and this goes long nicely with letting students follow their passions in terms of learning) #cuechat
A4: You need to look at what you do relative to your ability and capability. It reminds me of John Wooden’s definition of success being based on self-satisfaction with results, not external recognition. #cuechat
A4: This quote reminds me not to compare myself to others and that I am doing good in my own right. At times it causes so much anxiety trying to do to much and stifles creativity when I am comparing myself and seeing the amazing things others are doing. #cuechat
A4: This quote always reminds me that I cannot compare myself to anyone else except me. My best doesn't equate to someone else's best and vice versa. You won't ever be happy if you're playing a game of catch-up! #cuechat
A4) For me, this quote is all about how each of us are on our own paths and that while its great to be inspired by others, constant comparison to those who you may imagine are “killing it” can often lead to self doubt #cuechat
You cannot compare your middle to someone else's end. Make your journey YOUR journey (and this goes long nicely with letting students follow their passions in terms of learning) #cuechat
A4: When we compare ourselves, our Ss to anyone or anything we make them less that who they are, themselves. Ss deserve to become who they are, on their own, with gentle guiding and encouragement. #cuechat
Well said.... and its that anxiety which our Ss are experiencing in spades in part because of this same idea. Comparing their lives others online #cuechat
A4: If we are working with purpose and passion, thankfully there isn't really time to get caught up in comparisons or the joy this can suck out. #cuechat
How many adults do we know who have deleted social media because of the anxiety it causes with respect to comparison?! This is why it is imperative to have these convos with our Ss. #cuechat
#CUEchat A4a Dunno. The word I learned this week that has affected me profoundly is “coblabberation”.. that effect where people appear to go along with a collaboration but fade away. +
#CUEchat A4b But the whole comparison is the thief of joy is reminiscent of that commandment about covet.. the idea’s been around for 1000s of years, probably something to it.
Aw thanks, friend!! I’ve fallen off the writing wagon, trying to get my new classroom up & running, but have a few things drafted I want to finish soon! This is def my inspiration to get writing again. So good for reflecting & documenting fave lessons for future use #cuechat

Yes!! We need to teach them at an early age about this. I’m thinking more family trainings via schools to help our families during this new issue. Raising our children has changed and many families do not know what to do. #cuechat
A5: My Why is building Relationships with folks. Everything grows out of #relationships And encouraging others to share their amazing gifts with the world! It's beautiful to see them blossom! #cuechat
A5: Writing helps me process everything. It ends up in all sorts of different directions and I have to "clean" and reorganize the thoughts. Helps me become a better teacher/partner/learner, too. That's my why in writing/reflecting #cuechat
A5: From the video... ”when you know your why your what has more impact because you're walking in or towards your purpose” My purpose is to help others and do what’s best for all students. #cuechat
A5: My why is to make connections, inspire others to take risks that will reap rewards in their classrooms, to try something new that will benefit students, to help other Ts...no matter where they are in their journey. #cuechat
A5) This video from Soul Panacke about the Science of Gratitude is my “WHY”. It is a MUST for everyone in this chat tonight! (yes, I am declaring martial law on this one!)
https://t.co/xLkQH96Kkv#cuechat
#CUEchat A5a I used to be a heavy tool user [developing online learning]. Then around the time I went to my first #EdCampWestTexas I started to really talk with learners. Since then I focus much more on experiences, stories & media that supports both.
A5: My why is to Q4. I want to help kids learn to realize that school is not about getting good (insert what here). Instead it is about discovering who they are and learning to accept and love themselves and ultimately empowering others to do the same. #cuechat
Yes Valerie! I like how you put that. Writing is organized, clean and has a direction. Now I love podcasting, but boy, we can get 180 real fast! #cuechat#podcastEDU
Q6: Besides reflecting on your past, have you ever paused to think about those people who helped you on your path to where you are today? What have you done, or could you do to let them know the impact they made?
#cuechat#CUEldi
#CUEchat A5b In the end I think it’s the learner that integrates what they learn with what they know. So my why is helping people interact with their learning experiences with as little friction [Click Next, Pick the best..] as possible.
A5. Here is my why. My perfectly imperfect family. How am I changing teaching and learning in my own district. Am I making school a better place for these three knuckleheads? #cuechat
A3: It's amazing how much (after my great @macul colleagues) I look to California for inspiration and collaboration...and not the parts they put in the brochures. I see you Fresno, Sac Town, Davis, Tualre, Visalia, Coarsegold, Fairfield. #cuechat

A5: But seriously, I want my students to have the kind of experience and relationship I had with my teachers (or, in some cases, a better experience/relationship). #cuechat
#CUEchat A6a I had something happen Saturday morning. It kind of fed into something that happened the afternoon before. A conversation with someone I trust this morning kind of opened my eyes. I can increase the likelihood I get what I need when I let others know what it is..
A6: I have used email, facebook messages, twitter direct messages to reach out. It has spawned conversations about education and life journeys since we last were in contact. Very powerful and rewarding for the both of us. #cuechat

ALL THE TIME! I, in fact, was in my old high school today coaching my gr. 11 media studies teacher. I always make a point of going and thanking the teachers who are still there 20 years later! #cuechat

a6: I try everyday to be thankful to everyone around me. Often times I am abrasive of those I am closest to, BUT they are the ones that have helped me grow the most! @justjulie44 I would not be who I am without you! #cuechat
A lot of [elearning especially] learning is made to scale. Sometimes it can be detrimental to one’s psyche or insult our emotional intelligence. It can be challenging for teachers & designers to see things as their audience sees it #CUEchat
Wow, thank you for the great questions and incredibly powerful chat @AprilBuege and wow, did you nail that ending with this!! Phew! So much gratitude for the sharing,
Q5: What is your why? https://t.co/n9avECo4FF#cuechat#CUEldi
A6: I also started something new this school year wherein I try to send at least one email a day thanking someone for something from the day. Nothing superficial, just a moment of help, that made me smile, etc. It makes everyone feel great & build strong relationships #cuechat
Q6: Besides reflecting on your past, have you ever paused to think about those people who helped you on your path to where you are today? What have you done, or could you do to let them know the impact they made?
#cuechat#CUEldi
A6: I am a big fan of thank you notes (or emails!) I've reached out to Ts & mentors who helped shaped me into the person I am today. They are always happy to hear from former Ss & it makes me happy knowing I put a smile on their face. #cuechat#gratitude
A6: Most def. I try to let those who have helped me along the way know that I am grateful for them. I could recognize them more often though. Oops! #cuechat

A6) I reached out and thanked my first principal who hired me in 1998. She took a risk with someone who was green as could be but passionate. I shared with her that her risk in me changed my life irrecoverably forever #cuechat
Huge shout out to Ryan & Brian for modding tonight! Thank you all you awesome #cuechat - ters for making this an amazing chat! Remember to follow each other and grow your #PLN ! Come back next week for more #cue goodness! @creativeedtech@bribriggs#CUEldi
