A1: Blended learning looks like conversations, individualization, engagement, small group, big group, doing what it takes to meet the needs of every learner in my room! #ditchbook
My Ss are watching clips of documentaries, reading online text (OER) & building their explanations of the cold war w/ tools like Canva, Adobe Spark & G Slides. #ditchbook
A1: I coteach with a gentleman that hasn't embraced tech or blended learning yet, but he is eager to learn! I helped him incorporate @quizizz and @peardeck this week to help get his feet wet #ditchbook
A1: First teach Ss what it means and expectations for each station/activity. Insist on norms and procedures. At the end, Ss reflect on learning and give feedback. It đź‘€ like hands-on+online tasks, indep+grp work, choices, reflection. #ditchbook

A1 - My first #ditchbook chat!
Tonight's hw was to watch a 4 min video on decomposing trapezoids to set up tomorrow's activity. The kids complete a WSQ (a la @crystalkirch). There's a digital version (thank you Google forms) and a hard copy version. #ditchbook
A1: At times, blended learning can be a successful inclusion into the classroom. If started from the beginning, it has the potential to show students that it truly is a student-centered classroom and that they have ownership of their learning within the curriculum. #ditchbook
A1 Blended learning is combing whole group, small group, online, and whatever else needs to be done in order for students to be successful and empowered learners. #ditchbook
Good evening #ditchbook friends!
Excited for tonight's chat! However ...
I *just* got home from 14+ hours in THIS thing. Was hoping I'd be back sooner but, honestly, I'm a shell of myself right now.
You're in FANTASTIC hands with @Rdene915 + the #4ocfpln! Enjoy!
A1: Blended Learning in my classroom is a daily occurrence. We use tech for texts, creation, and activities. We use pencil & paper for things like #sketchnotes and sometimes nothing when I create an EXPERIENCE! #ditchbook
#ditchbook A1: Blended learning looks like using technology to be able to better differentiate to meet my students needs; flipping lessons so students can learn content via video at their own pace and then having more time for hands-on content reinforcement during class time!
A1: Blended Learning involves student choice, agency, and a great deal of intentionality behind the medium of each phase of instruction/activity #ditchbook
A2: Teach w vids for factual info, vocab, or inquiry - spark a conversation/debate. Review games with @quizizz@quizlet or @gimkit Interactive vids w @playposit@edpuzzle to teach/get evidence of learning + @Flipgrid for summary/feedback #ditchbook
A1: I love incorporating video instructions to different elements of the class. This allows students choice in the order they complete tasks. #ditchbook
A2: Our quiet students have so much to say. Online discussions are an invaluable resource that allows them to express themselves in a less intimidating environment! #ditchbook
A2: Creating video lessons with screencastify and @edpuzzle are so helpful! Then students can refer back, review, ask questions, or watch lessons specific for them. #ditchbook
Hi! Danielle, G8 WHIST teacher from Ma. Joining late BC apparently I don't know how time zones work & I want to try blending learning this year #ditchbook
A2: Communication and Collaboration (to me) are a natural fit for tech because they can C&C with people outside of your classroom, campus, district, state, country, .... #ditchbook
#ditchbook A2: Love when Ss can collaborate using online tools, but also think any tool to allow Ss to learn at their own pace and style! A "oldie but goodie" for me is Google Forms...embed videos and ask Ss Q's which can self grade for self-paced lessons or games! #versatile
🔥💥🔥💥Spending tonight going through Flipgrids from today! They are AWESOME! Love hearing what has gone well and what makes them smile! The new "Leave a Vibe" feature is EPIC🔥💥🔥💥 @Flipgrid#ditchbook#xplap#tlap
Right! Sometimes paper and pencil just work best. Ss need it at times too. Not every S loves tech, but I do want them to all know how to use it! #DitchBook
A2: short explainer videos & interactive sites are whether expect to use the most when I develop my first lesson. I have no idea if they even the route I'm supposed to go. We'll see! #ditchbook
Justin from KS, just got home after officiating and found this PLN on my thread A2 Using Google classroom and for help is fantastic Ss learned how to post comments and use each other as resources of experiences #ditchbook
A2: When introducing new material, making use of tools, such as @edpuzzle gives students control over the pace and place of their learning. Allows for more personalized learning pathways during class time #ditchbook
Q3: Think of some “tried and true” methods that work in the classroom. How have you used technology to amplify the effectiveness of this strategy? Share! #boldschool#ditchbook
A2: Online learning works best for me when Ss are collaborating and creating outside the classroom walls or sharing to authentic audiences. @GetKahoot , @quizizz@gimkit are awesome for helping Ss with foundational skills and knowledge too! #DitchBook
A3 A nice mix of #edtech and no tech, stations with tools like a game of @GetKahoot@quizizz or an @nearpod lesson, then some w/flashcards Ss make, or an activity they design, it is great for having time with each group and peer collab #ditchbook

I love that there are so many choices that we can find something, to give options to all Ss, build confidence and comfort in sharing ideas and learning #ditchbook#4OCFPLN

Balance also depends on the day or activity. Do what's best for Ss by using sold pedagogy. Use tech when it can enhance and take the learning farther. #ditchbook
Using peardeck & #hyperdocs allow me to check-in more often with my struggling kids as well as my shy kids. @VersoApp also helps give every student a voice. #ditchbook
A3: Smooth transitions are important. One of our Spanish Ts is using Apple Classroom to lock iPads when Ss enter the room to eliminate distraction until its time to open & use them. Ss can have iPads on desk w/o temptation. #ditchbook
A3 I love teaching the Ss note taking #sketchnotes on a digital platform Kids enjoy thinking about which font, color, shapes to add to notes as cues to study or understand Ss and Ts do not have to worry about them being legible #ditchbook
A3: Our students need opportunities to practice language, speaking, listening, writing, and yes reading. Apps like @flipgrid , @nearpod and @seesaw provide avenues for all students to develop literacy in an authentic manner. #ditchbook
A3: Consistent routines..I always but the instructions and links to all resources in Google Classroom whether the activity was tech or not. The students eventually quit asking “What are we doing today!” and “What do I do now?” #ditchbook
A3: Huge fan of #PBL and while you can create insane projects without tech, video creation tools like @WeVideo or iMovie, audio tools like @soundtrap and Garage Band, can take PBL to the next level #ditchbook
Q3: Think of some “tried and true” methods that work in the classroom. How have you used technology to amplify the effectiveness of this strategy? Share! #boldschool#ditchbook
First #ditchbook chat but a vet when it comes to twitter chats. A3: formative assessment is a tried a true teaching method to identify those who need extra support. Tech expedites this process to spend less time on “checking” and more time on how to provide effective intervention
A3: Glad you asked! I took the #EduProtocols Frayer A Friend to a new level by having Ss take the info from the 4 friends they interviewed & then create a @GetKahoot over it that we can play in the classroom to build relationships! #DitchBook@jcorippo@mhebern
A3: Using the whole @GoogleForEdu Suite to make learning menus digital, dynamic, and interactive. Makes accessing all learners a lot easier #boldclassroom#ditchbook
I also love #pbl and have been really impressed with how well the students have made the changes from doing projects and embraced the inquiry process, and what they have shared #ditchbook
A3 - any kind of back channel to hear all voices - Google Slides Q&A (just put a single slide, not need for a full prep during a disc), Flipgrid, etc.
#ditchbook
A2: I think sites similar to @quizizz and even @flipgrid
are wonderful additions to the tech portion of blended learning. They are set up by the teacher and Ss can complete at their own pace and own comfort level. #ditchbook
Q4: One of the best aspects of blended learning is the power to individualize instruction. How have you used this power to create learning experiences based on your individual students? What ideas/ resources can you share? #DitchBook
When they are researching (on Chromebooks or Computers) They can easily store and organize their research by using the Keep extension in Chrome. When they open Docs, they can access all those notes. AMAZING! #ditchbook
This is a HUGE yet simple step to making every minute count.
When possible, don't give oral directions ... Post em! First heard this from @alicekeeler ... Super effective! #ditchbook
A3: Consistent routines..I always but the instructions and links to all resources in Google Classroom whether the activity was tech or not. The students eventually quit asking “What are we doing today!” and “What do I do now?” #ditchbook
@WeVideo is great for having Ss create a multimedia, video, audio and mixing everything together, I have used it for my own projects, @soundtrap we will use for podcasts #ditchbook

#ditchbook A3: Allowing students to create games to showcase their knowlege and then teach others has been a "tried & true" for years, but the ol' poster board/indexcards/dice has been amplified with @scratch and @BloxelsBuilder !! Ss always beg for more time with these tools!
A4 Genius Hour! My kids were able to learn what they wanted and chose how they wanted to present their learning. Each project was personalized to the individual. #ditchbook
Ha! I did! We mentioned that! I do that in presentations sometimes. Here's one that I play to attract people to my #CaptionThisEDU sessions. @jmattmiller#DitchBook
Q4: I create blended playlists for grammar instruction for my 8th graders. Students are able to move at their own pace and I can individualize as needed. https://t.co/FuyU5xIJuQ#ditchbook
Let's keep the conversation going, so many awesome ideas being shared tonight,.... we have BONUS questions coming up! #ditchbook@jmattmiller@DitchThatTxtbk
We had Ss use it as a review and the results were through the roof. 75%+ of Ss said they could 'see the answer' on the test. Some preferred to do it on paper and we are more than good with that. #ditchbook
A4: Scaffold Instruction in GooClassroom by assigning activities to individuals rather than whole class AND Choice Boards work great for personalizing and highlighting student strengths and passions. #ditchbook
A4: For a response type assignment, create a standard writing prompt, but let students cater to their own style by giving choice of writing, visual like sketchnoting, or video like @Flipgrid#ditchbook
Q4: One of the best aspects of blended learning is the power to individualize instruction. How have you used this power to create learning experiences based on your individual students? What ideas/ resources can you share? #DitchBook
