A1: My most memorable art moment was seeing the Voyage of Life series at the NGA: https://t.co/KitrR697Pd It was the first time art stopped me in my tracks. I was 8 and with my mom. #k12artchat
A1: When you meet artists in person, especially those who make art as big and impactful as these two! It's hard for it not to be memorable:) #k12artchat
#K12artchat most memorable art experience was related to anthropology and gluing dinosaur bones together and examining a mummified cat. Weird but I have always related art to research and discovery.
#a2 I love to share are that has a powerful theme or connection. @art21 is a wonderful resource for my students to begin to make meaningful art and awaken their visual voice #k12artchat
A2: I love teaching artists who work with nontraditional materials, who have an interesting story, and who's work students can personally connect to. Some of my favorites include Chakaia booker, Ruby C Williams, and Keith Haring #k12artchat
#k12artchat A1 I don't have a most memorable artist - but I remember crying in front of Van Gogh's bedroom and standing in Monet's garden. All so surreal.
Literally just introduced Emma to Kandinsky tonight. She's learning about angles and lines in math and we pulled out one of his prints to make it more real. She loved it. #k12artchat

A1 Artist Yayoi Kusama's exhibits made a huge impression on me & helped me expand my own #art because of the ability to interact & her use of so many different media #K12ArtChat
A1 most memorable art exp was working in a group in 10th grade to recreate a Picasso piece, followed closely by the first time I saw the piece in person! #k12artchat
#K12ArtChat A2 I speak of art compositions as a voice. Words and messages as shouts or whispers... I related my students to the many artists motivation to create. Vincent Van Gogh was driven to create, JR British photographer says so much with photography.
It came down like crazy yesterday! So many broken branches, trees, etc. And 3 snow days in a row... ugh! About 1/3 of the town still did not have power this afternoon. #k12artchat
A2 I love using David Hockney's #art to teach in my class because like Picasso, his work develops in periods throughout his career & he continues to innovates & experiment creatively #K12ArtChat

A2 favorite artist to teach is probably frida kahlo - she overcame so many struggles and I think it’s important for students to understand that struggle is part of life sometimes. #k12artchat

A3 I always share @InsideOutProj & @JRart's work in class to show students an effective and powerful example of how #art can be used collaboratively to connect & build community and have a social message at the same time! #K12ArtChat
A1 the Picasso retrospective in Minneapolis after he died in the 1970's. It was a Girl Scout trip to the big city and my first big museum visit. I wanted to read every single discription. #k12artchat
A3 I do a ton of collaborative work with my Ss - it’s so important for middle school! I never recall the artists name but this photo was the result of a collaborative process with art ed students @BUArts and I’ve done similar process with Ss #k12artchat
#k12artchat one of my favorite parts of my day of a student driven art workshop with middle school artists. Students teaching and appreciating each other.
I remember walking into the @la_Biennale in 2001 (studying abroad w/ @SU_VPA) and seeing this...by @RonMueck and it was first time I really felt how powerful a piece could be. #k12artchat

A2 I love using amazing picture books with my lower elementary. They love being read to and when the topic and art connect to the creating it is a wonderful experience. #k12ArtChat
A4 Illustrators such as @peterhreynolds and @PatriciaPolacco have great works to study that can help students learn to craft moods, strengthen comprehension skills and study key details that help to create meaning. #K12ArtChat
A3 my 5th graders look at Mandalas, it is a collaborative process for the Buddhist monks and a community event when they destroy and wisp use the remains. #k12ArtChat
A5 whenever we talk about still life I like to incorporate the idea that object choice has meaning and talk about the vanitas paintings - old and new. I think it helps the Ss to understand that the images say something #k12artchat
A6: My Ss! hands down. Especially, the youngers. I did some bigger #ATC w/ 1st they had so much fun & the challenge was to draw a person w/ a back ground! #K12ArtChat
A6: Love finding artists who draw me in again and again with a work. Ben Hamm does this all the time. First original piece of work I bought for our house. Every day I'm glad I spent that money. #K12ArtChat
A5: I enjoy using literature to teach students to take risks, fail forward, and try something new. "The Beautiful Oops" is one of my all time favorites! #k12artchat
A3- The Olympics inspire Teamwork & Community within the atmosphere of collaborated competition. My last period Art 1 students were ALL IN during our '1st Clay Olympics' & has changed all of my students outlooks on Art. They all work as one unit now, excited to create #k12artchat
A4 I live Madalas and Op art for math, illustrating Chinese scrolls and wooden slat book are inspired by Asian folk tales, and landscapes are inspired by American folk art. I like to focus on cultures rather than specific people with my Upper Ele Ss. #k12ArtChat
Oh there’s so many! I think it depends on my mood and what I’m looking for. I go back in time - Matisse, Seurat, Picasso etc to contemporary Britto, Claire West, Sandra Silberzweig..... #k12artchat

A5 one of the most important ideas we can teach students is that ANY artist that has found success did so because they explored ideas that they were curious about even if others thought they were foolish. Courage to explore is how a voice gets developed. #K12ArtChat
