Good morning East Coast Edition!!!
Today - Does your school have a breakfast program? What might be positive classroom impacts? https://t.co/XZEPrTYq3i
So true! Rarely do we recognize (and act on) the need to slow down.
So important for Ss to start the day right with breakfast. We have (HS). Variety, too.
We do not have a breakfast program. Ss that are bussed in our choice program can get something though.
Good morning ! Preparing 4 presentation on Fri. & following chat at same time. Tweeting from my computer, not my phone. Hmmm.
Our school doesn't have a breakfast program. I think that a program could help to bring a sense of stronger community
Connie from NY. Can't stay but wanted to share - Yes we do offer breakfast-think it's very important-S's need fuel for their brains!
My school & district has free breakfast for everyone...no questions asked. Works great!
We don't even really have hot lunch. PTO brings it in twice a week.
Another impact could be a calmer start of the day for some. With a breakfast routine at school. Less tardies?
Good morning, ! Melissa in NJ...ready for an amazing Wednesday!
Good morning, West Coast!
We have breakfast in classroom program. All Ss are offered breakfast free of charge!
We serve breakfast to students who want, I assume we help out financially with some just like lunch.
Good morning .
Brian from Mass.
Good morning! Nicole in NJ. I have been in two districts but neither provide breakfast.
For those of you that have breakfast is it part of the school day or before school?
isn't spring in NJ awesome !! ?? https://t.co/nMvrmbSork
Good morning, ! Melissa in NJ...ready for an amazing Wednesday!
Positive impacts of breakfast at school...Ss know they are cared for and they can often focus/concentrate better.
Every student? thats impressive.
Good morning all Spiri from PA, excited to join you this morning π
Good Morning ! Stacey from NJ.
My school has free breakfast and lunch for all Ss. Biggest problem is kids who are late to school are hungry. Caf closed.

Our entire district provides free breakfast in the classroom everyday to every student and teacher.
Good morning --my HS starts too early for breakfast. All Ss want is coffee. Our cafe came up w/ good compromise: smoothies in AM.
Hi Ben.
What are you teaching in maths today
Good Morning. Watching cool periscopes from SXSW. Cynthia in VT check my twitter feed. Ignites!
Love that it is within each of the classrooms. This makes sense. https://t.co/7mCptWHbmr
Our entire district provides free breakfast in the classroom everyday to every student and teacher.
We do AM snack time, but Ss bring from home
My school starts at 7:25. It would be nice if we could get every kid breakfast.
My school has breakfast & grab & go. Breakfast %age was below 20%. When we added grab & go, almost 80% Ss eat breakfast each mrnin.
do they sell them or is part of the free breakfast program ? https://t.co/vGe0xVbgXS
Good morning --my HS starts too early for breakfast. All Ss want is coffee. Our cafe came up w/ good compromise: smoothies in AM.
On another note... do you allow eating within your classrooms? As adults, we can eat when we want. Hmm...
Our Ss eat their breakfast in the classroom during announcement/homeroom time.
Good morning, Connie. Have a great day! I agree. Ss who are hungry cannot focus on learning. Needs are met with food.
I love the idea of grab and go.
Good morning yes, we have a breakfast program. Ss get off bus and go straight to cafeteria to get food.
Part of school day. Ss eat while announcements and attendance are taken. Some T use this time to read aloud https://t.co/kFlSunOwt9
For those of you that have breakfast is it part of the school day or before school?
Our 5/6 all get breakfast in room; 7/8 FR in cafeteria. Disappointed that so few drink the milk, even the chocolate.
Educators are powerful creators & changemakers... spontaneous healing of belief. You want it? Make it, now. https://t.co/FEHGmrQfHt
Tomorrow's : Does your school have breakfast? What are/might be positive classroom impacts? - https://t.co/Rh1rjVQmYd
It's been a rough winter for me, too. Glad you are feeling better.
do you do announcements before or after 1st period?
we do not provide breakfast program. We're an int'l school. Our kids are pretty well off or parents work 4 embassies/multinationals.
I gave up the battle of fighting coffee and food this year. If there's really no problem, why restrict?
I keep a drawer of breakfast bars, crackers &cookies Ss know they can always have something, helps learning https://t.co/xIm2kWJbh2
On another note... do you allow eating within your classrooms? As adults, we can eat when we want. Hmm...
Good morning . We have a breakfast program. For the kids that need it, it starts their day in a positive way.
A reminder of why a free breakfast - no strings attached - is a great policy that pays for itself... https://t.co/7mXd0XrsvX
Sounds great. What Grade?
I taught worded linear algebra today (Year 10)
Some folks were a little nervous about eating in the classroom but it has really been a positive experience so far.
My school has breakfast, and then fresh veggies and fruits are delivered to class during day. kids love it
If you value Standards-Based Learning at the HS level, join and our Crew tonight at 8CT/9ET.
Our HS cafeterias sell breakfast. There is an amazing energy with kids making waffles, drinking coffee, socializing.
Should students be able to eat in class?
First sick day for me in 2 1/2 years. Much needed the rest.
Program is new to my school this year. Positive feedback from parents, Ts, and Ss. https://t.co/H4h1PUDS5E
Every student? thats impressive.
Hi Melissa.
What's on today?
Wow, that's amazing? What is clean up like?
Teacher discretion. Doesn't make sense in some areas. No food in chem lab!
And they can eat when they want? https://t.co/PAToN2urVW
I keep a drawer of breakfast bars, crackers &cookies Ss know they can always have something, helps learning https://t.co/xIm2kWJbh2
On another note... do you allow eating within your classrooms? As adults, we can eat when we want. Hmm...
I have grade 3 and we do a snack time. Some years need to watch allergies. https://t.co/BAEYn84wip
Should students be able to eat in class?
Know you will do great. Good luck. https://t.co/g9xgbPqa2q
Good morning ! Preparing 4 presentation on Fri. & following chat at same time. Tweeting from my computer, not my phone. Hmmm.
Kory, this is outstanding! Thanks for sharing. Hope you have a great day!
My district feeds every student free breakfast. And at some schools they get free lunch and dinner depending on family income.
A number of our schools provide a breakfast program before the school day begins and snacks during the day.
We have a grab n go style so lateSs can stop by cafe and take it to class https://t.co/JxmItf4eVj
My school has free breakfast and lunch for all Ss. Biggest problem is kids who are late to school are hungry. Caf closed.
Makes sense. Is there an age to start at though... am in elem. school. Would it have to be schoolwide? https://t.co/V6zlMdCnM4
I gave up the battle of fighting coffee and food this year. If there's really no problem, why restrict?
I allow eating in the library altho I've been asked to limit it to certain areas by B&G - kids have b'fast here every am
So far this week: carrots and strawberries. Last week: apples, oranges. kids eat them up
I believe all schools in my district do them before 1st period.
yes as long as it doesn't disrupt class Ss starting bring in snacks for other Ss great sharing and bonding
What's interesting is that although we don't have breakfast, doctor's office is saying that 2 many kids do not have breakfast in am.
Yeah, we wouldn't want it in some areas.
We have breakfast at our school many eat free ... many toss out fresh fruit/vege and milk.
My school is also part of a fruit/veggie program to get Ss to try different things 3 days/week.
Yeah, but can they eat whenever they want?
It's like having all the seasons in one day this spring! Today is a low of 42 and high of 70. https://t.co/yi7mGxNXHr
isn't spring in NJ awesome !! ?? https://t.co/nMvrmbSork
Good morning, ! Melissa in NJ...ready for an amazing Wednesday!
No breakfast program, many teachers bring class morning snacks for Ss
Library space to feed mind and body.
Fresh fruit & veggie delivery? Amazing!
With schools going 1:1, do you think we will suddenly see more rules about where you can and can't eat?
My Ss always had snack in school. I required that it be healthy. My boys stopped having snack after 2nd grade (sad).
yes. I try to get them to eat a healthy snack. One year I had a nut free classroom due to allergy.
our b'fast runs 1st and 2nd pd, before cafe makes switch to lunch 4th (that's 9:30a btw)
yes that makes sense, I'm US History just clean up when your done https://t.co/2EV5WzNSoL
Teacher discretion. Doesn't make sense in some areas. No food in chem lab!
We provide free breakfast (& lunch) for ALL students. For some, it's their only meals.
Last 3 yrs was part of school day. Ts hated it. Mess, management & pprwk, took 4evr. Now before school. Ts much happier.
Breakfast programs often reflect the kind of love, compassion and commitment a community willingly offers.
:I would approach the issue like : ask WHY are you considering change?
I would think quiet, healthy snacks :) (if elem...) https://t.co/4DYnJhLdkb
yes as long as it doesn't disrupt class Ss starting bring in snacks for other Ss great sharing and bonding
Do you think it's due to the morning rush, or do you think they don't like to eat in the am?
I also love that it is free for everyone so that Ss who would not be able to afford it otherwise are not stigmatized.
Hi Carl! Happy Wednesday. How was your day?
I would love that. How do we pull it off?
Really?Where is your sense of adventure? lol
Just taught lessons on nutrition & proper menu planning, lots of feedback from Ss "noone eats like that !" https://t.co/sDKPXVhsL9
We have breakfast at our school many eat free ... many toss out fresh fruit/vege and milk.
Running late but here!! Good morning!
Brain does not store energy. Other organs have emergency supply. Need prompt energy supply to brain FEED https://t.co/6Kp1e5HIML
What's interesting is that although we don't have breakfast, doctor's office is saying that 2 many kids do not have breakfast in am.
Schools should take this pressure off of Ss regardless of SE status, we are helping all get started on the right foot
no snack gives them more time to play... in elem we ask them to finish snack b4 playing
They have cans in the halls for trash & bags put the leftover food. All in all = great experience K-12!
there's e a great counter where they can sit, have b'fast and chat. We stream music - full every morning!
We have a morning recess and kids bring a snack from home, too. https://t.co/yeAIty3clW
We do AM snack time, but Ss bring from home
Kids snack/eat in my room ... have to be careful and clean up ...just like at home ... experience responsibility.
Wednesdays I have no break and soccer training at night. But went smoothly. (very hot still)
My district (here in rural Appalachia) recognized the overwhelming need and considered it an investment in the Ss.
Arriving early & eating breakfast is not cool. However, grab & go to eat breakfast in HR allows you more time outside w/ friends.
And they are neat about it. Bucket avail for compost. Vermont. Earth.
I see too many kids in the morning with cheetos and soda. its on us to provide a better option.
Based on last night's , I am going try music in the am as well.
I love that! Now, where to put it???
I've never heard of dinner @ school, how late does cafe stay open? After school program?
We need to consider this in our pods and libraries. I wonder if we can repurpose our hallways. https://t.co/zdTZuV6YCT
there's e a great counter where they can sit, have b'fast and chat. We stream music - full every morning!
exactly if they abuse it they may lose privilege, but they have always been good https://t.co/5WTzj1sc5V
Kids snack/eat in my room ... have to be careful and clean up ...just like at home ... experience responsibility.
Breakfast has to be made priority because we are working with Ss all day and don't know the last meal they ate
Free breakfast for every S. Seems more and more take advantage. The stigma of 'free or reduced' has dissipated
Not sure. Ss don't take advantage of breakfast, even bus Ss who arrive early. Another reason to change start time!
I have only 2 students of 15 that take advantage of breakfast in the morning.
I start almost every day with Hatnote - peaceful, not too much for kids still waking up
reminds me of Barnes and Noble.
Equity and inclusion...access for all! Agreed!
G'morning, !
Our school offers breakfast to all. Some pay, others free or reduced. Not sure of %ages.
I do question if we feed kids enough at school lunch... some kids need more than others ...
What is Hatnote? Is it a band or station? (sorry for my ignorance)
That's fantastic! We sometimes take for granted the true community impact our schools have. This is a clear example!
yes more sleep. better breakfast essential ( for Ss also !!! :) https://t.co/CW9xfD9sCm
Not sure. Ss don't take advantage of breakfast, even bus Ss who arrive early. Another reason to change start time!
We host a community breakfast the first Friday of every month. This month, the Art Ts exhibited 3rd and 4th grade art work pic later
That's terrific! A few times had lunch in classroom & food/crumbs everywhere
Rookie poll maker... forget to say hey this is a poll! :) https://t.co/Utc3gtcCJo
Should students be able to eat in class?
Yes...very thought provoking idea. Love the perspective. Thanks for sharing!!!
Ours is the hugest circ desk you've ever seen - repurposed for S use b/c I couldn't stand the barrier
The Breakfast Cafe! Great idea!
We have Ss deliver the breakfast totes every morning. Ss leadership https://t.co/aJtqpzslkk
Breakfast programs often reflect the kind of love, compassion and commitment a community willingly offers.
I would love that. Have some outside time weather permitting first thing. What a great start to the day!
I think it's both. Kids leave home early 2 get 2 school. Breakfast should be a priority for parents though https://t.co/XhaM8xl1Ur
Do you think it's due to the morning rush, or do you think they don't like to eat in the am?
true, but so many have such poor eating habits they waste or ignore so much to to educate more https://t.co/LOojbu8sww
I do question if we feed kids enough at school lunch... some kids need more than others ...
I have to go now. Don't wanna be late for school. Thanks everybody.
: People in schools are nervous when it comes to liquids & computers. (Ironic since I eat bkfst with laptop at ea morning!)
Or breakfast choices! https://t.co/xweTCd2DmJ
Not sure. Ss don't take advantage of breakfast, even bus Ss who arrive early. Another reason to change start time!
every few weeks I have breakfast duty ... like meet and greet with the students ... positive interactions
Excellent idea! I assume family members are invited.
Wow! Do you have a school garden, is that here veggies come from?
Oh, I'm talking about snack in the classroom, since even most Ts will have a quick bite or drink. Some yrs lunch is at 1.
Ugh, sad
As a teacher, I don't model very well... https://t.co/Pod8tpeIaO
What's interesting is that although we don't have breakfast, doctor's office is saying that 2 many kids do not have breakfast in am.
I allow snacks in the rm. Our lunch is 10:30 but school ends @ 2:30. 4 hrs is way 2long w/o something. We read & eat.
Recess snack being provided for all is prevalent across our district.
You are SO welcome! 1st time I read it,I was like, "THAT'S IT!" Helps me so much with life in general now.
Mine was replaced with a smaller one. But, the area behind it has two big tables. Hmmm!
we may be missing that part ... we are starting to run "Nutrition Ads" on our school news
I teach in a computer lab one block....Ss eat at "breakfast club" table. Start at 7:18. Some don't have lunch till 12:42.
Yes, & kids going 2 doctor's office with stomach aches. Many of these are coming to school w/out breakfast. https://t.co/xY5hgjbknY
Brain does not store energy. Other organs have emergency supply. Need prompt energy supply to brain FEED https://t.co/6Kp1e5HIML
What's interesting is that although we don't have breakfast, doctor's office is saying that 2 many kids do not have breakfast in am.
REALLY? Wow! That's great! Can make sure it is healthy!
yes we too have lunch at 10:30 yikes https://t.co/9yFz9HVrl1
I allow snacks in the rm. Our lunch is 10:30 but school ends @ 2:30. 4 hrs is way 2long w/o something. We read & eat.
Wholeheartedly agree. This is not food to get the brain going. We have to guide them to make conscious eating decisions
Such an important way to engage Ss in the process...great learning opportunity!
so if we have to create rules around eating in classrooms what should they be?
most schools here have gardens but not this time of year. some have heated chicken coops, tho. No, our stuff from Calif.
All schools offer bf. Our bldg does bf in the classroom. I'd like to see fresh fruits & food for Ss but time and $ make it hard.
I did the same. Quick, healthy snack before lunch. We called it mid morning meal or M3 for short.
Building relationships! Bravo!
