A1: I love using my blog, twitter, IG, Facebook Live, YouTube Live, and my podcasts to help not only share my own story but amplify the voices of others.
#EdTechChat#KidsDeserveIt
A1: For so long (and I still struggle with it now), I didn't feel like my voice mattered. I always felt like others had better stories. But I've learned how every story makes an impact.
#EdTechChat#KidsDeserveIt
A1 - Tweeting in the moment. Capturing photos. Blogging (sometimes). #edtechchat
*But*, held back by privacy concerns. And that no one actually cares what I have to share...
A1: Social media is the fastest and easiest way for me to tell my story. I still want to get a blog going—making time to get it started is what I need to do! #edtechchat
A1: I have just started really getting into sharing my story through blogging and twitter, it's so great to connect with others! I grow so much from reflecting through my writing. #edtechchat
A1: Trying to be more active on social media - Still a bit afraid to live totally online - sharing everything also not possible due to rules and regulations for being foster parents #edtechchat
A1: I am sending out a weekly newsletter using @SmorePages and curating resources on a @GoogleForEdu
Site. Not sure anyone is interested in my story; have started & stalled a few blogs over the years. #edtechchat
A1: Our district is focusing on telling our story this year! I mainly use Twitter to share. It’s a great way to connect with other educators. #edtechchat
A1. Like many others, twitter is my go to currently, twitter allows me to share my story along with the great things going on at my school and in Hernando County. #edtechchat#gameonhernando
A1: In a lot of ways, we're still developing our "story" as a company, but we like to share our growth on our blog + through twitter. Lots to learn via Ts here! #edtechchat
4th & 5th grade school teacher from Maine a little late to the #edtechchat party.
A1: I my share learning via Twitter, blog, and use flipboard & diigo to connect with colleagues in school.
You don’t share all of yourself, I share categories of myself. My professional self, my personal self, my intimate self... they all have different comfort levels and boundaries that I’m confident/comfortable sharing. 🤗#EdTechChat
A1 Twitter, FB, weekly Friday share using MailChimp, blog, podcasts, youtube, #WestBobcats...always sharing, not as consistent as I need to be #edtechchat
Hey! #edtechchat I'm Matt, a volunteer teacher and teacher trainer for computer science. 6 word bio: "I am not trained for this".
Or, alternatively, for my tech life: have you tried to reboot it?
"We are all fighting a battle. Some are bloody and do quite a bit of damage to the heart. Others go unseen by the masses at large. But they're there, and sometimes they hold a grip over our hearts that feels inescapable"
#KidsDeserveIt#EdTechChat
Hey everyone! Tech coach from NJ. A1: twitter really helped me grow as an educator. I love sharing and getting new the ideas from the amazing ppl here! #EdTechChat
Take a break for 30 mins tonight and join #NVedchat on Mon Feb 5 at 7pm PST as we chat about the #Superbowl of #edtech. Let's share the best #technology to use in the classroom. Everyone welcome to join the conversation! #edtechchat#tech
A2: I looooved "Dear Martin", "I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter", "The 57 Bus", "All Rise for the Honorable Perry T Cook", "Far From the Tree", "Serpent King" and "The Hate U Give" are all game changers that you HAVE to read!
#EdTechChat#KidsDeserveIt
A2: Wonder- it made me think more about how others are fighting internal struggles that others may not see. It applies to so many aspects of education. #edtechchat

A2: Baltimore county has introduced a new book called Chains into our curriculum. It is about two children who are enslaved, fighting for their freedom #edtechchat
A1 I have also started to used @Flipgrid to tell my story! I recently made a grid to have other teachers share why they LOVE teaching and another resource they LOVE you can add a video here: https://t.co/YjR8wy8V3n#edtechchat
A2. Wow, tough ? Probably “The Hate U Give” by @angiecthomas Completely diff perspective than I am used to and so important in our current climate #edtechchat
A2: These diverse books have taught me so much about different religions, sexual orientations, family makeups, racial inequalities, gender inequalities, foster care, and so much more.
#EdTechChat#KidsDeserveIt
A2: Reading diverse stories helps build empathy. It's the perfect first step to begin to educate yourself and connect with others who aren't like you. Our country is divided enough. We must learn more about our differences.
#EdTechChat#KidsDeserveIt
A2 - In the process of reading Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City. It amazes me what people are put through to just access the basics. 😟 #edtechchathttps://t.co/kv8slPpy4b
Question 3: What activities have you done in class previously to help your students realize their agency in learning? How did it go? What were the student reactions? #educacy
#edtechchat A1: Blogging is something that I’ve gotten into after being inspired by some great leaders. It’s not about who reads it, but the reflective process that it takes me through #pln
A1: blogging about my experiences, Twitter to share what is happening in the classes I support - going to start a wellness blog this weekend! #edtechchat
A2 In my non-teaching life, two books given as holiday gifts continue to resonate. Anna & The Swallow Man and Station Eleven both cast a light on the power of human connection and the power of relationship. #edtechchat
A2 Hi #edtechchat Just saw a bunch of responses retweeted by @TechNinjaTodd and couldn't help jumping in to reply The 57 Bus to this question! What an amazing, eye-opening read!

Save Me A Seat received the second highest rating ever given to a read aloud in my class. Our super scientific and highly accurate finger poll placed it second behind Wonder. #edtechchat
Yes, although I also intentionally follow some with whom I disagree so that i can understand my own position better or shift my thinking as logic prevails. #edtechchat
A2: Reading The End of Average right now which tells the story of how public edu came to put such emphasis on being average (and above). Mind altering! #edtechchat
Question 4: It's hard for teachers to cede control to students. How do you help colleagues who struggle with the concept of increasing student agency in the classroom? #educacy
How about keeping on topic @HistoryViewVR - we appreciate the inclusion on your posts, but are trying to have a dedicated conversation right now #edtechchat
Q3: I am constantly trying to make more and more time to do nothing but show up and listen. To talk less, ask better questions, and give my full attention. I'm growing in this area for sure.
#EdTechChat#KidsDeserveIt
A3: I'm pushing myself to learn from colleagues by observing them in their classrooms, seeking feedback, and watching what they're showing the world #EdTechChat

A3: I need to do better in this area. I am in an isolated part of our building and don’t have a grade level so I need to work on connections with others and learning their story. #EdTechChat
A3: We've started meeting in the hallways and staying a little later. We've also started to try and build relationships outside of school, which has been so nice! #edtechchat
A3: I don't believe you should be "pushed" - this is something that should happen naturally - building those relationships is the key to student success and collaboration - you should want to get to know your colleagues. :) #edtechchat
A3 - Students and colleagues alike, you've got to take a genuine interest in the stories they're telling. If you're not interested & curious to learn about one another & from one another, you're in the wrong business. #edtechchat
A2: not something I read but thinking about Ss and others with disabilities and their accessibility to the tech world. Anyone have any reading suggestions now that topic?#EdTechChat
A3: my coworkers and I are constantly texting and interacting outside of the work place to try and get to know each other on a personal level as well as a professional level #edtechchat
A2 Evicted by @justshelter1. It puts poverty into a whole new perspective and shows it as an American problem not limited to any one type of person. My students loved it. #EdTechChat
A3) for my in person ones, I often just ask. As a non-staff educator, I often get a good bit of openness, since I'm not as tied in. For my online ones, its all being in these chats, or following ones even if I can't contribute. #edtechchat
A3 I need to do better with this. I am bad to get sucked into working with my kids and planning and reading and I neglect to listen to my colleagues very well. #edtechchat
A2: One book I have read that has totally changed my perspectives of Africa and stereotypes of Africa in the United States is Mistaking Africa by Curtis Keim and Carolyn Somerville! Could be very useful when teaching an international student! #edtechchat
A3: I wish I could do more! I view what I can on social media, but it feels disconnected. I like to see it in real life. The day to day tasks take up so much time, so it’s hard to get out and see/hear what colleagues are doing. #edtechchat
A3 Leaders do this on a daily basis through formal and informal conversations...listening observing and reflecting...try to get out and talk with Ss and Ts everyday #edtechchat
Take a break for 30 mins tonight and join #NVedchat on Mon Feb 5 at 7pm PST as we chat about the #Superbowl of #edtech. Let's share the best #technology to use in the classroom. Everyone welcome to join the conversation! #edtechchat#tech
A3: We have opened a teacher collaboratory in our tech dept offices - a place for teachers to come for help or just hang and get to know us - learned alot already this year #edtechchat
A3: We know how important relationships with our Ss are, and our T relationships are just as critical! Asking questions, and truly listening is a great place to start! #edtechchat
A3: #edtechchat Using @voxer to have a Book chat about The End of Average right now and just recently was a part of one for #SchoolClimate. Really get to listen and learn from peers
A3 I use to take my lunch by myself to just recoup, but now I am actively seeking out conversation with my colleagues and it truely fills me up more! #EdTechChat
A3. The assistant principals in our country find time to get together outside of school once a month to review some county wide initiates as well as safe time for good conversation. #sharpenTHEsaw#edtechchat
A3: we have staff breakfast, staff socials after/before school, buddies for special occasions and events. It is also part of building wellness and mindfulness in your schools. #edtechchat
A3: I am at a new elementary school this year, letting others know my strengths & willingness to help others, no matter what level of reluctance, has been a focus this year. Engaging in conversations & building relationships helps me lead #EdTech and #stem at school! #edtechchat
Take a break for 30 mins tonight and join #NVedchat on Mon Feb 5 at 7pm PST as we chat about the #Superbowl of #edtech. Let's share the best #technology to use in the classroom. Everyone welcome to join the conversation! #edtechchat#tech
A3 cont Also fortunate to have school supported time to meet in what we call Families. Each focused on a theme connected to individual goals. The focus is on our teaching & how it impacts learning. Great chance to hear from each other. #edtechchat
A3 I read a blog post about "just saying hi" and I have been making an effort to say hello to colleagues and kids in the halls, even if they don't speak first. It's hard when you're super introverted! #introvertsunite#edtechchat
A3 I don't know that I do. My focus has always been on learning the stories of my students, but I suppose knowing my colleagues is just as important. 🤔🤔🤔 I do see how bonded teachers could create a better experience for both students and teachers. #EdTechChat
Last question... question 5: Some of our students have experienced the extreme loss of agency in their personal lives. How can we help those students recognize all they can offer their own learning? #educacy
Take a break for 30 mins tonight and join #NVedchat on Mon Feb 5 at 7pm PST as we chat about the #Superbowl of #edtech. Let's share the best #technology to use in the classroom. Everyone welcome to join the conversation! #edtechchat#tech
From what I’ve heard from Ts I’ve connected with the high and middle school teachers have a more difficult time. I think it has to be a focus of your school culture. #edtechchat
Its true, though permanent doesn't have to mean polished! There's so much benefit from hearing other's stories. I've gotten some of my best ideas out of the semi-formed thoughts of others, so I'm glad they shared what the did! #EdTechChat
A4: Yes, I'm busy. We ALL are. So sometimes I have to schedule time to write in my calendar. My buddy @teachermantrav always says, writing is like a sport. If we don't practice we'll never get better.
#EdTechChat#KidsDeserveIt
A3: wow another thing I am working on (this is why I love Twitter) As a coach trying to get out of the office and into the schools...without being the stranger looking in on lessons #edtechchat
A4: Once every six months, I vow to work on a blog, buy a new domain name, write three blog posts, then wait six months and start the process again #edtechchat

A3 Learning the stories of my colleagues is an ongoing goal of mine. Connecting w/ my colleagues helps build relationships which allows us to do the important work of creating a powerful learning env for our students. #edtechchat
A4: I still find myself feeling like an average writer who's words aren't worth sharing. I daily have to remind MYSELF that every story matters. And we must share our stories and make the time to write.
#KidsDeserveIt#EdTechChat
A4. I do not make enough time to write/reflect. I need to blog more and get my ideas and thoughts down so I can develop as an educator and reflect on best practices #edtechchat
A4 I try to write something ever evening! It usually goes towards a devotional journal reflecting on my faith!
I also have been diving into writing just for enjoyment! Would love to write a children’s book someday! #edtechchat
A4: I don’t feel that I am a very strong writer. I think I have thoughts to share but I sometimes struggle to get them written down. When thoughts come to my head I type them in my phone or jot them down. I need to journal #EdTechChat
A4 Writing on my blog (albeit sporadically... but there's a new post there today!), keeping my writing notebook with my students (I write when they write), and at writing group with @teachermantrav on Mondays. #edtechchat
A4: Keeping a notepad by the bed and utilizing google drive on my phone whenever ideas come to me. Still trying to find more time to play with craft and get more than just ideas. I keep track of craft moves that I love in my writing notebook. Again, lots of ideas! #edtechchat
I'm new in my district too and trying to get to know people and showing I'm willing to help. It is hard to get people to ask you for help though when they don't know you. I need to figure out how to be in the right places at the right times! haha #edtechchat
A4: I've always been a fan of journaling. I started around the age of 10. I definitely would love to expand to online writing or potentially write children's books one day! 😄 #edtechchat
A4: It definitely takes a conscience effort. I need to notate ideas when inspiration hits more frequently. I am sharing resources learned in #gradschool right now, and reflecting on how my what I’m learning about has/is impacting my role as an educator. #edtechchat
Each edu writes an end of yr reflection. Last yr we asked for specific goals and used those to create the groups. 5-13 edus in each group. Family members observe each other, provide support, discuss strategies. Monthly meetings. #edtechchat
A4: This may sound odd, but I really like to spend a good amount of time writing and re-writing when I'm sending district-all e-mails. I try to make sure that even if I didn't sign it, people would know it was from me. #edtechchat
A4. I write ideas in a journal that I keep on my computer. If there's something special i need to record, I'll place it on both my calendar and computer. #edtechchat
A4: One of the places I write is in the comment section of the New York Times. If I care deeply about a subject I chime in with a comment. It only takes a few minutes but I try to craft my thoughts concisely. Also, I journal. Blogging is on the horizon. #edtechchat
Take a break for 30 mins tonight and join #NVedchat on Mon Feb 5 at 7pm PST as we chat about the #Superbowl of #edtech. Let's share the best #technology to use in the classroom. Everyone welcome to join the conversation! #edtechchat#tech
A4. As simple as it may sound, I have began to document notes from meetings and PLC's for my own reflection and to help track the path and progress throughout the year. Perhaps I should have been doing this all along. #edtechchat
A4: I’ve started journaling personally to be able to bring those skills or reflection to my students! I think t is important for them to self-reflect #edtechchat
Like almost everything else in life, scheduling time to write by putting it on your calendar gets it done. ToDo's without a booked time and place to do them don't get done. #EdTechChat
A4 I am fortunate that one of my impact areas is Writers' Workshop. When I ask my Ss to write I take out my lifebook and write with them. I also try to write once a weekend. Lucky to have two kiddos who enjoy it too. #edtechchat
Q4: I have to be very intention with my time management to direct my thoughts toward my blog. It’s to easy to loose focus & determine there is no time to write. #EdTechChat
Take a break for 30 mins tonight and join #NVedchat on Mon Feb 5 at 7pm PST as we chat about the #Superbowl of #edtech. Let's share the best #technology to use in the classroom. Everyone welcome to join the conversation! #edtechchat#tech
A4. I think i fo have the time and the inclination but the Drive is needed , habe made a half hearted attempt but then i chicken out ...have promised myself over and over again ...lets see when i actually muster the courage to jump into blogging full fledged. #edtechchat
A3/4 #edtechchat I created this #lightbulbmoment wall by the staff coffee pot where we can write and share ideas and get to know what one another are doing which then in turn leads to staff observing one another to see how it’s done!!
A4: I do journal sometimes just to get my thoughts out. I try to read a ton and apply what I like about that style to continue to develop my own style #edtechchat
A4 I know that technology is the trend, but I often wonder if paper and pencil may be the better route. Then my words are out, but they still belong to me until I'm ready for someone else to see them. The point is just to get the words out, right? #EdTechChat
A4: For me even a sticky note goes a long way. I love making notes, writing reflections, or making lists to help me focus or stay organized. It's the little things. #edtechchat
Time to go snuggle up and read to the little one---book order came in today! Thanks for an inspiring chat! Will catch up later. @TechNinjaTodd, you are awesome. Thanks for all you do to share your story and the stories of others! #edtechchat
A4: I always carve out time over the weekend to write - if I have to go to the library to get some peace and quiet, I will. Have to make it a priority. #edtechchat
That certainly was a purposeful decision. We wanted the capture the familiarity and diversity of family structures and hint at all the ups and downs families experience. #edtechchat
A4: Once every six months, I vow to work on a blog, buy a new domain name, write three blog posts, then wait six months and start the process again #edtechchat
Yes! My blog is first and foremost my way of collecting my thoughts, and secondly to share them.
Also, if you're in a twitter chat about education, you're probably not as crazy as you think. My apologies. #edtechchat
Yes!! I complete agree! I find that Saturday mornings with a cup of coffee before I really begin the day is the best time for me to jot my thoughts! #edtechchat

Hey #WonderChat#LeadLAP and #edtechchat ... if you have anything to add to the #educacy conversation please do! We are always looking for strategies/ideas/reflections!
A4: I also carve out time during my lunch hour - 30 minutes to eat and 30 minutest to write. I also keep a pad and pen by my bedside and jot down ideas - other night I had 3 pages full of notes and ideas! #edtechchat
The families are comprised of edus from different grade levels and content areas. Meetings move around to different participants' classrooms so we all get to see each the various impact areas. #edtechchat
A4: I have blogging as one of my goals for my professional growth plan...I am a work in progress...need to commit to scheduling it in as part of what I do! #EdTechChat
Same. There's something about the process of writing it out. I also love the process of cutting things out and collecting them or collaging them in my journal #edtechchat

it's not about pleasing others. In a conversation, you can pose outrageous thoughts as a part of the discussion - write them down and you become a facisct/anarchist/wacko/liberal/alt-right nutjob! #edtechchat
Just do it! Most people in our PLN would rather not comment, or constructively question rather than be hateful. My first post was me introducing myself to the process. It has a total of 4 views & I began focusing on my interests as I went along and had good responses! #EdTechChat
A5: One of my favorite ways to amplify the voices of my students is with out Social Media Interns. I love letting them take over our school social media accounts.
#EdTechChat#KidsDeserveIt
A5 have them chart their journey. We have them answer our 3 question model: what did you do? What did you learn? What questions do you have? #edtechchat
A5: We can amplify our students voices by building relationships with them and giving them freedom and trust. I learned this with a student by listening to their story and being patient #EdTechChat
A5: Just today I learned about a little girl who's dog died this weekend. She told me he was her best friend and that she was having a very hard Monday. So we sat and read a book about best friends and laughed over memories.
#KidsDeserveIt#EdTechChat
A5: We can listen & engage in a variety of topics. We're reading Esperanza Rising and discussing human rights and their convo's are incredible! I've learned how students are connecting to the story. #edtechchat
Kinda so true tho! Building my Twitter PLN has literally changed my life! (I’ve blogged about it- ironically as we chat about that) Let me know how if I can ever help! #edtechchat
A4: Blogging is something I have a love/hate relationship with. I love the idea of getting my thoughts out there to share with others. It is a great reflective tool as well. But I struggle with finding time with the work/life balance #edtechchat
A5 I try to offer authentic opportunities for publication for our writing pieces, and I love telling their stories on my blog (names changed, but I often tell them I'm writing about them.) #edtechchat
there is something about good old paper and pencil...it seems more private. My problem is that I can't write as fast as I can type so I choose that! Do whatever works for you and is enjoyable too! #edtechchat
A5: Unfortunately not in the classroom as much as I'd like anymore, but our Kindergartner keeps us full of stories at home. Since reading #helloruby and @lindaliukas reached out, my daughter has been CRAVING info about Finland and has been guiding her own learning. #edtechchat
Yup. Even when I do some research for something, its research so I can learn, which I then organize in blog post format. And, mine certainly gets abandoned sometimes. I think since september right now. My writing comes in waves. #EdTechChat

Liberal use of emoji's? I don't know. Real time twitter chats like this, allow for a closer facsimile of a conversation, and less likely to be blown out proportion (during the chat). But words + internet = all bets are off. #edtechchat
a5 Occasionally I hear a S talk about something that is not fair at school. I check it out to see if it is something that needs to change. Ss know I don't just listen. #edtechchat
A5. By having them share through a blog, @Flipgrid, and using Twitter to show the great things they do. In our connected world, S voices should be amplified #edtechchat
A5: building trust and developing relationships with students...modelling risk taking so that students see you doing it right along with them...building a positive culture within our schools is key! #EdTechChat
A5 #edtechchat we can definitely use varied ways to amplify student voice! From google forms to back channels to flip grid to online quiz sites kiddos can use em all to “speak” to us and show us what they know and don’t know! So many tools so little time!! 🤩
A5: it’s been amazing to use restorative/ relationship circles to provide Ss an opportunity to share their feelings, perspectives & identity in a safe forum. There are so many Ss who are broken & unheard. #EdTechChat#kidsdeserveit
A5: One of my favorite ways to amplify the voices of my students is with out Social Media Interns. I love letting them take over our school social media accounts.
#EdTechChat#KidsDeserveIt
A5: Ss need to have their voices heard beyond the 'four walls of school' - have them publish globally, get in touch with news outlets, magazines, and newspapers - get their work published. Use blogs where others can respond. #edtechchat
A5: We need to model good digital communication, and then let them have it. Too many times we tell and never let them show. We need to be better at that. #edtechchat
A5 Ss voices are amplified through our S generated blog and twitter feed. Work created in ExplainEv, Puppet Pals, etc are stored in Drive and shared during S led conferences. I also have Dialogue Journals which students use to share ideas with me. #edtechchat
A5 I sound like a broken record by mentioning it again but @flipgrid is a great way for me to hear ALL of my students voices! It’s great for questions, but as an intro to flipgrid I had them share about their weekend to me! It was great to hear #StudentVoice#EdTechChat
A5: I think I amplify the voices of my students when I stop and really listen to them. You can just see their eyes light up when I listen and ask questions. Hopefully it encourages them to continue to share their story. #EdTechChat
Thank you. I always hated being told "life's not fair". I always wondered why the adults around me didn't want to try to make it more fair when they could. #edtechchat
Finding great success with backchannels as a running record for student thinking while reading. @Padlet and @TodaysMeet have been very useful. #edtechchat
A5: We met with our Student Leader Team a few months ago and asked them what they wanted us to know. A 3rd grader said, “I wish teachers would put their phones down and see us.” OUCH! We are checking messages and Group Me texts and forget we make kids feel ignored.#EdTechChat
A5: I've started having Ss respond to journal prompts each morning and on Friday's it's a Free Write Friday. Some write poems while others write stories. #edtechchat
A5 My students' voices are powerful, but I often find that I believe in them much more rhan they do. I'd love a way to let their voices be heard by others so that they can be validated by someone who isn't me. Tell me how Twitterverse! #EdTechChat
A5: I have used @Flipgrid to amplify student voice/choice this year and had amazing results with my 4th graders! I ❤️ed it so much I became an ambassador. #shamelessplug There are some AWESOME new features coming later this week which I can’t wait to use! #edtechchat
If your are interested in flipgrid jump on over to the Grid I made to Share the Love about the teaching profession. Just jump on and add a video it is super easy and a great PLN #edtechchathttps://t.co/YjR8wy8V3n
A5. Its always nice to use heart rather than mind when it comes to Ss;it's so easy for them to articulate their thoughts,& one learns so much from their freedom of expression.I often have class blogs for topics being taken up.@Seesaw@KidblogDotOrg@PenpalSchools#edtechchat
I’ve never done them until this year with my Ss. Honestly, never needed too. It’s perfect for the dynamics I have this year and it’s proven VERY helpful. #edtechchat
A5: I feel that giving them authentic audiences is incredibly important. What stories do they want to tell? What audience should they target? What genre/structure will reach that audience the best? #EdTechChat
Should be, but unfortunately isn't. It's also why many of us write/blog/post not an alias. The confidence to do so under your real name, when overreactions nowadays quickly lead to job loss... It's scary. It shouldn't be this hard. #edtechchat

Who is your "one person"? Tag them & let them know you appreciate them!
#KidsDeserveIt#EdTechChat
That is so true. They doubt themselves so much. Maybe a class blog or having them write a class newsletter for parents as a starting point? #edtechchat
A5: We do a community circle every morning with our students, to talk about goals, and problem solving, etc. Getting the students to reflect on things collaboratively and restoratively is so important! #edtechchat
A5. We need to provide a safe env. for our Ss to talk freely about things. One Ss is still having a hard time over losing her father last year. Another Ss told me that he thought our lockdown practice drill w/ real and he w/ talking about the bad person in the schl. #edtechchat
I've written some about gender issues and teaching girls in tech. It invited some challenges about if its really needed or worthwhile. Those challenges let me help others learn, learn more myself, and helped solidify my views. Not all, but some push back can be good. #edtechchat
In reply to

A5: giving Ss a choice in how their voice is heard through the product they choose to create or the content they choose to learn about. Choice is always a huge factor for me #edtechchat
A5b. Techtools actually are the Ss comfort zones, the netizens that they are !! So @Flipgrid ,@padlet are fantastic platforms I use for some of my class experiences. #edtechchat
"Sometimes all it takes is finding that one person who will walk alongside us, kicking our butt into gear when we need it."
Who is your "one person"? Tag them & let them know you appreciate them!

A6 small notes in a school mailbox is so easy to do! My school has a pile of sheets in the teachers lounge just to help share the positivity and encourage others. It’s small but goes a long way! #EdTechChat
A5- I think we have no choice but to integrate social media. Introducing it is the easy part. Encouraging Ss to be responsible while contributing something with substance (not hate) is the challenge. Some adults should think about this too, hrmmmmm #edtechchat
I'm a big fan of discussions where there is a bit of push back. Back and forth often ends with both positions evolving towards each other (even if not in agreement). Just scary how quickly a bit of push back on the internet can become threats. :( #edtechchat

A6; ask curious questions and really listen to what they have to say...let them tell you their story...let it unfold and flow...ask follow up questions probing and allowing them to tell you more... #EdTechChat
A6: This week I will make intentional time to talk to our new teachers and get to know them on a more personal level. I will slow down and work on building relationships, not just with kids but also adults. #EdTechChat
A6. Acknowledge them, especially for a trait they may not believe they have. As we left our PLC today I told one of my teachers she was a leader. She states "no", I restarted it again as I walked off. #edtechchat
A6: One of my personal professional goals is to reach out to two people in the organization each week that I haven't seen/talked to in awhile to check-in. This is always a great opportunity to listen and be encouraging #edtechchat
A6: isn’t that the main quality of a good leader? I’ve been told it’s a quality I need to work on, because I minimize the accomplishments I achieve as to not seem boastful. If the people I work with are successful, then that’s all the recognition I need! #edtechchat
For my next EdSurge column, I'm writing about sexual harassment in the #edtech + education worlds. Looking to share a story? DM me or email me (maryjmadda@gmail.com). Can be anonymous or not. #pdchat#edtechchat#satchat#pdchat
A6 If you're encouraging somebody to do something new, chances are their effort & overcoming any psychological hurdles were greater than the small, but important role you played. Step back and appreciate how far they came along! #edtechchat
True. And there are some people I've needed to block, and conversations I wished I could have had, but couldn't with some people. But mostly, its been great, positive engagement and convos. #edtechchat

I loved sending my Ss a form sometimes just to check-in. It made it easy for me to see who I needed to conference with or try and connect with. I was always surprised at how honest the Ss were with me #edtechchat

A6. Take the time to listen , talk, smile, and share stories with your Ss. You'll be amazed at some of the stories they have to share about their families, friends, and school.#edtechchat
A6 - drop a note on someone's desk, mailbox, locker, car, whatever. But don't sign it and don't do it to everyone (at least not the same day). Loses feeling of "wow" when it becomes generic. #edtechchat
A6: Through conversation. Simplistic, heartfelt dialogue is the best method for encouraging students & coworkers. We can nudge readers, writers, and thinkers, even if just a little bit, through the art of talk. #edtechchat
My staff does staff shout outs in our weekly “Word” which goes out weekly with updates and important information. It’s a good chance to recognize or thank someone! #EdTechChat
A6: I try to mention a teacher’s name to admin in a positive way when the teacher isn’t around...hoping it will get back to the teacher at some point. It feels good to know people speak good of you when you aren’t around. #edtechchat
6b. During passing period is where I find time to catch up with staff members. Ask about their week, their families, their upcoming plans, etc. Making the most out of a couple minutes. #edtechchat
A4: I feel like I’m self promoting here but the blog I started really got my writer-ness going here and I’m excited about sharing my story! #edtechchat
I wish we could live without that fear. But, our own life experiences impact what we fear and what we don't. Privilege of all kinds comes into play, depending on circumstances. I'm working on getting over it myself. #edtechchat

And your check-ins within your organization, how are they going? Do you have a format or is it an informal call...curious to hear more about why it is a goal...I like the idea! #EdTechChat
A5: I’m looking forward to working with Ss again next year so I’ll get to hear their opinions about our tech team soon! But I’m the meantime, I’m asking all applicants what they’d like to see result from the tech team’s existence. #edtechchat
