  • edwink18 Dec 13 @ 8:16 PM EST
A2: If we don't connect with our challenging students and show that we care about them they will not work for us. Relationships are at the core of our work. Needs to come first. #MEMSPAchat
  • tlyman1976 Dec 13 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2: We house students with emotional impairments in my building. They are without a doubt the most challenging but in many ways the most fun. Get to know them and love them. Get to learn who they are and what makes them tick. Learn what helps them calm and support #MEMSPAchat
  • kjpake Dec 13 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2: At the elementary level Ss often see me as the authority. Making time to build the relationship has helped me in improving behaviors and in turn academics. Kids need to know that we're not that different! #relationships, relationships, relationships #MEMSPAchat
  • Timothy_C_Lee Dec 13 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2: The most challenging kids may never had an adult to support them. Being in their corner, no matter what, can make a difference. #MEMSPAchat
    In reply to @MrDomagalski, @KimCamp4Kids
  • jon_wennstrom Dec 13 @ 8:17 PM EST
As @AllysonApsey taught me, all behavior is communication. Students can’t learn until they feel safe and we know dromvreaearchbtgat students learn best from those they like & respect! #MEMSPAchat
    In reply to @MrDomagalski, @KimCamp4Kids, @AllysonApsey
  • MrDomagalski - Moderator Dec 13 @ 8:17 PM EST
For anyone new to #MEMSPAchat tonight - Don't use twitter, go to https://t.co/Bqyn3t7P88 and add a #MEMSPAchat column. You'll love it!
  • vickilwilson5 Dec 13 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2. With each connection we make and positive words we say, we have an opportunity to improve (or save) a life. #MEMSPAchat
  • BuckmasterKelly Dec 13 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2: our students need to feel valued and heard - often we focus so much on controlling student behavior - better results happen when we change adult behavior to meet the needs of students. #memspachat
  • HarvestLearning Dec 13 @ 8:18 PM EST
It is! Works great because you can set up multiple columns and watch questions, replies and more. Using your laptop is a must. Following on a handheld is difficult. @MrDomagalski taught me. See Mike's recent tweet! #MEMSPAchat
    In reply to @ksmorden1, @MrDomagalski
  • saschnit Dec 13 @ 8:18 PM EST
A2: everything builds off of relationships. If trust and willingness to be open and feel safe aren’t there then Ss will not be open to wanting to share or participate. #MEMSPAchat
  • TeachMrB Dec 13 @ 8:18 PM EST
A2) I believe that the success we are experiencing in 8th grade PBL is partially due to the relationships that were started in 6th grade. SS who have never passed ELA and social studies are experiencing success! #MEMSPAchat
  • JasonSalhaney Dec 13 @ 8:18 PM EST
A2: They need to feel loved by someone and it is our job to remind them that they are. When they connect with someone they are more likely to be productive and learn from mistakes aren't they? #MEMSPAchat

A2: talking to students in general is important because it makes them feel trusted, valued, and wanted. #MEMSPAchat
  • daveschmittou Dec 13 @ 8:19 PM EST
A2) We often consider a student challenging not because of their academic ability but because of their social skills. If modeling is an effective instructional strategy, then the toughest kids need our relationship the most #MEMSPAchat
  • tlyman1976 Dec 13 @ 8:19 PM EST
Absolutely! We are the love! #MEMSPAchat
    In reply to @JasonSalhaney
  • mschulte50 Dec 13 @ 8:19 PM EST
#memspachat A2: Relationships, it just makes sense.
  • HarvestLearning Dec 13 @ 8:19 PM EST
A2: I think this says it all! #MEMSPAchat
  • KatQuain Dec 13 @ 8:19 PM EST
Failure to build relationships is like missing that last puzzle piece... it’s just not complete! You can know curriculum but if you don’t know your Ss and they don’t know you care true success/growth will be difficult to achieve.#MEMSPAchat
  • MEMSPAchat Dec 13 @ 8:20 PM EST
#MEMSPAchat is rockin, Question 3 is on deck...
  • Timothy_C_Lee Dec 13 @ 8:20 PM EST

    In reply to @MrDomagalski, @seancovey
  • davidsimpson512 - Moderator Dec 13 @ 8:20 PM EST
A2: Relationships are at the heart of what we do…who we are. They matter for all students. Not just ones that present challenges. By building relationships with our kids…it says to them they are loved, cared about, and never alone in their journey. #MEMSPAchat
  • daveschmittou Dec 13 @ 8:20 PM EST
    Yes...not just tolerated...LOVED!!!! #MEMSPAchat
    In reply to @JasonSalhaney
  • CEBrianAdams Dec 13 @ 8:20 PM EST
A2: we started a lunch bunch group for kids who struggle in the lunch room and on the playground. The relationship building has helped us to show how awesome these kids can be when they are given an opportunity to be successful.#MEMSPAchat
  • SSpickard Dec 13 @ 8:20 PM EST
A2) Things won't "stick" when there's nothing to "connect" to, so making connections gives us more opportunity for knowledge, advice, and other lessons to stick with our students and other stakeholders. #MEMSPAchat
  • MrDomagalski - Moderator Dec 13 @ 8:21 PM EST
Q3: #MEMPSA18 speaker @casas_jimmy says, “Our goal should be to not only make an impact, but to make the greatest impact possible for all students and schools.” As a building leader, how are you making that GREATEST of impact? #MEMSPAchat

    In reply to @TeachMrB
  • MPSbiedermann Dec 13 @ 8:22 PM EST
A2: I have found as a teacher and leader often it's the most challenging students that need your love the most! In my current role, I try to ask "why" and get the root, opposed to finding always giving a consequence. I think affors an opportunity the build trust. #MEMSPAchat
  • saschnit Dec 13 @ 8:22 PM EST
A3: building strong connections between myself and my Ts and Ss. Creating connections between school and home and bringing parents in the school. #MEMSPAchat
  • kjpake Dec 13 @ 8:22 PM EST
A3: As a former athletic coach it's all about building teams. Building my team of students, staff, families, and community and putting them in a position to succeed. If the smartest person in the room is the room, I need to make sure I always am growing my room! #MEMSPAchat
  • tlyman1976 Dec 13 @ 8:23 PM EST
A3: @casas_jimmy made the biggest impact on me at the conference (says a lot cuz so much was amazing). I found myself saying a lot this week: "time to look inward (what role have we/I played) and what if we looked at it from the other persons lens? Inspiring #MEMSPAchat
  • rewiredprinK2 Dec 13 @ 8:23 PM EST
A2: I loved how @KimCamp4Kids included pictures and stories of who she was as a kid(prom pics., as a youngster, etc. when she saw kid out in the hallway at her standup desk! Being real! Connects with kids! Still can't get TTTy Tapping Day out of my head! #MEMSPAchat
