Q1: Author @seancovey spoke of WIG's (Wildly Important Goals) at #MEMSPA18. What Wildly Important Goal do you have as an administrator of lead educator? #MEMSPAchat
Hey guys Syndee checking in but also checking out I’ve got to hit the road… just leaving an amazing night with aspiring administrators from Wayne County. Will try to connect when I get home. #wayneA3#memspachat
A1: My goal is that my Ts begin to utilize goal setting and tracking through data to help their Ss reach their potential. Data becomes overwhelming and so I want my Ts to start with goals to better understand data. #MEMSPAchat
My WIG is to constantly be in classrooms and visible throughout when students are in the building. Thanks to my new mobile desk it is becoming a reality. Allows for regular feedback with teachers and other staff about their work and performance. #MEMSPAchat
Q1: Author @seancovey spoke of WIG's (Wildly Important Goals) at #MEMSPA18. What Wildly Important Goal do you have as an administrator of lead educator? #MEMSPAchat
A1: A problem in education is scaling up our work! My WIG is to scale up PBL and Deeper Learning through my hack of small deeper learning teams! Check out this week’s session! #MEMSPAchat
A1: I have rebuilt my staff meetings using 4DX to allow each team to chase a WiG
My personal WIG is to transform my staff (not just Ts) into educational leaders who have the ability to transform our building into a place where every child can soar. #MEMSPAchat
A1: A wildy important goal for me is to understand how to use the NWEA reports in a useful way to share with teaching in order to flip instruction from assigning to differentiated teaching.
Watch the student scores improve!
#MEMSPAchat
A1: My WIG is to support our local local principals in implementing the Literacy Essentials AND create a collaborative, interactive leadership culture at a county level. #MEMSPAchat
A1: To be visible and available to staff and students. Spend more time in classrooms learning along with them and avoid letting the whirlwind take over! #MEMSPAchat
Q1: Author @seancovey spoke of WIG's (Wildly Important Goals) at #MEMSPA18. What Wildly Important Goal do you have as an administrator of lead educator? #MEMSPAchat
A1: Tuesday, @debbiemcfalone and I will be planning Leadership Matters Cohort X! P90X for Leadership! We are focused on the WIG of ensuring that we stay relevant, meet the needs of our lead learners to ensure they lead with intentionality, courage, and integrity! #MEMSPAchat
A1) My WIG is to be on a first name basis with all of the students I see in the hallway. Our collective success hinges upon the relationships we build. #MEMSPAchat
Q1: Author @seancovey spoke of WIG's (Wildly Important Goals) at #MEMSPA18. What Wildly Important Goal do you have as an administrator of lead educator? #MEMSPAchat
A1: Support my teachers during our implementation of PLCs so they become so passionate about the process that their enthusiasm pushes their collaborative work to higher levels. #MEMSPAchat
Q2: Proud Middle Level educator & Ed Consultant @KimCamp4Kids energized the #MEMSPA18 Principals to engage with some of our toughest students. Talk about relationships building & why it’s so important for our challenging students. #MEMSPAchathttps://t.co/gxNJHDi0lK
A1: More than observation & feedback... feedforward, meet with all Ts 3x per year outside of the formal eval process to check in on their personal goals for the year! Relationships first. #MEMSPAchat
Q1: Author @seancovey spoke of WIG's (Wildly Important Goals) at #MEMSPA18. What Wildly Important Goal do you have as an administrator of lead educator? #MEMSPAchat
A1: As a still new admin, I'm working to build a culture of trust and support with my staff, Ss and families! I want to be purposeful ans transparent as I work to achieve this goal? #MEMSPAchat
Q1: Author @seancovey spoke of WIG's (Wildly Important Goals) at #MEMSPA18. What Wildly Important Goal do you have as an administrator of lead educator? #MEMSPAchat
Ummm, I'd like to think I'm pretty good at this, I'm trying hard tonight, but I can't keep up with all the collaborations on #MEMSPAchat - That's a great thing!
Love this chat, love the connections and collaborations of leading and learning ya'll! Well done!
#WeLeadMI Update: The House passed bills to lower the percentage of growth on educator evaluations from 40% to 25% for teachers and administrators. Those bills, HBs 5707 and 6401, now head over to the Senate for approval.
A2: If we don't connect with our challenging students and show that we care about them they will not work for us. Relationships are at the core of our work. Needs to come first. #MEMSPAchat
A2: We house students with emotional impairments in my building. They are without a doubt the most challenging but in many ways the most fun. Get to know them and love them. Get to learn who they are and what makes them tick. Learn what helps them calm and support #MEMSPAchat
A2: At the elementary level Ss often see me as the authority. Making time to build the relationship has helped me in improving behaviors and in turn academics. Kids need to know that we're not that different! #relationships, relationships, relationships
#MEMSPAchat
As @AllysonApsey taught me, all behavior is communication. Students can’t learn until they feel safe and we know dromvreaearchbtgat students learn best from those they like & respect! #MEMSPAchat
In reply to
@MrDomagalski, @KimCamp4Kids, @AllysonApsey
A2: our students need to feel valued and heard - often we focus so much on controlling student behavior - better results happen when we change adult behavior to meet the needs of students. #memspachat
It is! Works great because you can set up multiple columns and watch questions, replies and more. Using your laptop is a must. Following on a handheld is difficult. @MrDomagalski taught me. See Mike's recent tweet! #MEMSPAchat
A2: everything builds off of relationships. If trust and willingness to be open and feel safe aren’t there then Ss will not be open to wanting to share or participate. #MEMSPAchat
A2) I believe that the success we are experiencing in 8th grade PBL is partially due to the relationships that were started in 6th grade. SS who have never passed ELA and social studies are experiencing success! #MEMSPAchat
A2: They need to feel loved by someone and it is our job to remind them that they are. When they connect with someone they are more likely to be productive and learn from mistakes aren't they? #MEMSPAchat
A2) We often consider a student challenging not because of their academic ability but because of their social skills. If modeling is an effective instructional strategy, then the toughest kids need our relationship the most #MEMSPAchat
Failure to build relationships is like missing that last puzzle piece... it’s just not complete! You can know curriculum but if you don’t know your Ss and they don’t know you care true success/growth will be difficult to achieve.#MEMSPAchat
Learning the strengths of each new staff member and encouraging them to be part of our district strategic planning committees. Hope is that each staff will contribute in one way or another. #MEMSPAchat
A2: Relationships are at the heart of what we do…who we are. They matter for all students. Not just ones that present challenges. By building relationships with our kids…it says to them they are loved, cared about, and never alone in their journey. #MEMSPAchat
A2: we started a lunch bunch group for kids who struggle in the lunch room and on the playground. The relationship building has helped us to show how awesome these kids can be when they are given an opportunity to be successful.#MEMSPAchat
A2) Things won't "stick" when there's nothing to "connect" to, so making connections gives us more opportunity for knowledge, advice, and other lessons to stick with our students and other stakeholders. #MEMSPAchat
Q3: #MEMPSA18 speaker @casas_jimmy says, “Our goal should be to not only make an impact, but to make the greatest impact possible for all students and schools.” As a building leader, how are you making that GREATEST of impact? #MEMSPAchat
A2: I have found as a teacher and leader often it's the most challenging students that need your love the most! In my current role, I try to ask "why" and get the root, opposed to finding always giving a consequence. I think affors an opportunity the build trust.
A3: building strong connections between myself and my Ts and Ss. Creating connections between school and home and bringing parents in the school. #MEMSPAchat
A3: As a former athletic coach it's all about building teams. Building my team of students, staff, families, and community and putting them in a position to succeed. If the smartest person in the room is the room, I need to make sure I always am growing my room! #MEMSPAchat
A3: @casas_jimmy made the biggest impact on me at the conference (says a lot cuz so much was amazing). I found myself saying a lot this week: "time to look inward (what role have we/I played) and what if we looked at it from the other persons lens? Inspiring #MEMSPAchat
A2: I loved how @KimCamp4Kids included pictures and stories of who she was as a kid(prom pics., as a youngster, etc. when she saw kid out in the hallway at her standup desk! Being real! Connects with kids! Still can't get TTTy Tapping Day out of my head! #MEMSPAchat
A3: by monitoring our RtI data or early warning system. This allows us to "catch" those students with our safety net when we see them struggling. We have to keep our eyes on all, not just some. #MEMSPAchat
A3: I am trying to make the greatest impact by empowering my teachers! They are so brilliant and work to make sure every student is known and valued! #MEMSPAchat
A3: building a positive culture with staff and students - this is everything. The impact is a group dedicated to always work to be better for kids, reduced referrals, increased achievement #MEMSPAchat
A3: Modeling behavior. If we want our teachers to build relationships with Students then we need to love them and build relationships with them. Be visible and engaged with students and staff. #MEMSPAchat
A3) Developing positive working relationships built on trust and an understanding that we will do what is best for students and not necessarily what's easiest for me. #MEMSPAchat
Q3: #MEMPSA18 speaker @casas_jimmy says, “Our goal should be to not only make an impact, but to make the greatest impact possible for all students and schools.” As a building leader, how are you making that GREATEST of impact? #MEMSPAchat
Use a chrome book or computer. Open browser, go to https://t.co/QqklZEq8h5, add the #MEMSPAchat column and then follow along live. No refreshing! You can manage the columns too
A3: Tying into the last question and some other responses, but knowing every child in the building so they feel a valued and welcomed member of our school. Difficult, but getting there!#MEMSPAchat
A3: Work to ensure that members of the faculty and staff, regardless of role know they are valued and important to our mission the success of all students. #MEMSPAchat
Q3: #MEMPSA18 speaker @casas_jimmy says, “Our goal should be to not only make an impact, but to make the greatest impact possible for all students and schools.” As a building leader, how are you making that GREATEST of impact? #MEMSPAchat
A2: Students who have been let down over and over again by adults in their lives need caring people to help them restore their faith and trust in others. We need to work on Maslow's Hierarchy before we can work on Bloom's Taxonomy. #MEMSPAchat
Q4: @mieducation interim superintendent @alles_sheila addressed the #MEMSPA18 Principals & talked about continuing the state Strategic Plan for Top 10 in 10. What part of this plan are you most focused on as a leader? #MEMSPAchat CLICK: https://t.co/1AgIohpviH for the PLAN!
A3: Love me some @casas_jimmy! Our greatest impact comes from a place of empathy coupled with the willingness to do the hard work. I work hard to bring my best self every day, listen to understand, and really believe in the greatness of all my ppl. #MEMSPAchat
A3: What resonated so much with me was @casas_jimmy saying that we need to ask for help! I loved his focus on listening, paraphrasing and then saying "How can you help me?" #memspachat
Q3: #MEMPSA18 speaker @casas_jimmy says, “Our goal should be to not only make an impact, but to make the greatest impact possible for all students and schools.” As a building leader, how are you making that GREATEST of impact? #MEMSPAchat
I see the value of PD for conflict resolution, setting norms. Conflicts will eventually happen among staff & Ss and being prepared to deal with it productively can be helpful. #memspachat
A4: goal 5- need to get more Ps in schools and classrooms to see what is taking place and how education is changing and has changed since we’ve been in school. Also boosts achievement! #MEMSPAchat
Put Ss first in every decision and empower staff to give their very best to kids all day every day! Lead w/ purpose and a clear vision that focuses on what is best for our students instead of compliance or personal agendas. #MEMSPAchat
Q3: #MEMPSA18 speaker @casas_jimmy says, “Our goal should be to not only make an impact, but to make the greatest impact possible for all students and schools.” As a building leader, how are you making that GREATEST of impact? #MEMSPAchat

A4: A focus is on the pre-K students to make sure they are getting supports needed when they start Kindergarten. We have too many young kids not in any program before they start at our building. #MEMSPAchat

A4: For me goal 2 will always be important, it includes T leadership! this is a must. Also goal 4 - reducing high-risk factors to provide high quality instruction for all. #MEMSPAchat
A4: Goal 4. Making sure my staff (not just Ts) and school community deliver an exceptional instructional program where children are at the center of the decisions we make and a part of setting our goals and path.

A5: As part of modeling teacher self-care, we wrote gratitude cards to start one of our meetings. Cards could be to anyone in their life. These few minutes of silent writing helped prepare us to be our best version of ourselves! #MEMSPAchat
A5: We tap into the #powerofplay through Goosechase or breakout EDU type activities (School should be fun) and then utilize the 4DX model to implement and drive changes that come from our staff and students. Announcements are emails and sit 'n git is no more!
#MEMSPAchat
Q5: At #MEMSPA18 there was a “Spotlight on Innovation” highlighting how to innovate your Staff Meetings. What do you do to make your Staff Meetings less of a business, check the box meeting, and more innovative, engaging & impactful for staff? #MEMSPAchat
A5: We do "Teacher 2 Teacher" meetings where staff share tips and tricks from their rooms with others. We started it last year & will kick it into high gear next semester! #MEMSPAchat
Q5: At #MEMSPA18 there was a “Spotlight on Innovation” highlighting how to innovate your Staff Meetings. What do you do to make your Staff Meetings less of a business, check the box meeting, and more innovative, engaging & impactful for staff? #MEMSPAchat
A5: meetings are generated on Ts need and focus areas. We add collaboration and break out when we can. We also have Ts present instead of everything coming from admin #MEMSPAchat
5) At my last school we had daily huddles EVERY morning. 10 minutes to reflect on yesterday, align today, and celebrate our success. These daily ten minutes were more powerful than any hour long meeting I’ve ever hosted. #MEMSPAchat
A5: We've broken into small learning groups with Ts leading the conversation. Each group is focusing on improving practice that impacts S learning. #MEMSPAchat

Q5: At #MEMSPA18 there was a “Spotlight on Innovation” highlighting how to innovate your Staff Meetings. What do you do to make your Staff Meetings less of a business, check the box meeting, and more innovative, engaging & impactful for staff? #MEMSPAchat
A5: This year, having guest stakeholders (parents, supt., community members) is proving to be a good strategy. Making the meeting a conversation focused on a single topic, since our meetings are only 30 minutes long. #MEMSPAchat
A5: Article Reading/reflecting, fishbowl, Inspirational or learning video clips, connector activities, making sketch notes, beside storming carousels. Have not had a business meeting in many years. #MEMSPAchat
A5: Amy Taranko and Brian Dotson- great strategies for engaging staff - and the importance of openers to bring the group together and remind of our focus #MEMSPAchat
A5: Over the summer we received training in Adaptive Schools. This was a game changer. I have tried to incorporate these strategies in our Staff meetings in an effort to be more inclusive, get more participation and be more purposeful with out time together! #MEMSPAchat

A6: Nearly my entire binder from Leadership Matters cohort 3. That book has been used consistently for 6+ years. If you haven't done LM cohort you need to! #MEMSPAchat
A6: At Deeper Learning Conference, we learned “Novel Engineering” where we would add a Design Thinking experience to a “dilemma” facing a character from the book. Kids then design, prototype, and iterate solutions. #MEMSPAchat
A6: I was introduced to the @PosProject and @TheLeaderinMe . Although we didn't fully implement both, there were great things (STAR Groups, Peer Mentors, Goal Walls).
The best thing though has to be the connections for continued learning!
#MEMSPAchat

Look for @MrDomagalski to post the Challenge...

Intentional relationships. Period.
