John from WeVideo. Not a T but we have many 5th grade Ts mind if I stick around
A1: Making it student-led giving choice to activities and demonstration of understanding, putting in challenges to add good comp
A1 student choice allows for creativity
1A Let students explore and learn on their own. Failure is an important step in success. Give them the tools and let them explore
A1. Know your students and know the curriculum, and making connections between the two.
A1: Relating the activity to real world situations that students can easy see and connect
sorry coming in late from northern NY
Hi sorry I'm late. I'm Dawn. I teach K-5 science in Indy.
Jordan from Princeton, NJ. Just put kids to bed.
Giving Ss a problem to solve makes STEAM come alive for Ss in an easy way.
other input for Q1 Engagement?
A1: Having enough time to really explore, fail, fix, and try again, making sure to value the process and not force it
Great response to Q1. Q2 What materials or technologies do you use in your classroom? Any recommendations for others?
Great response to Q1. Q2 What materials or technologies do you use in your classroom? Any recommendations for others?
I feel like I rush too much, looking to slow down and give the time that is needed this year!
A2 https://t.co/xXjfYv68gA , wonder workshop apps, anything code-able! Ss are self-motivated https://t.co/JHwuvxBnvG
Great response to Q1. Q2 What materials or technologies do you use in your classroom? Any recommendations for others?
Q2: There are great Augmented reality tools out there for students to use.We are using them in my college class and I love it
A2: We use 1 set of 35 chromebooks shared by 2 Ts daily and ipads too
A2: Chromebooks and other comp, iPads, 3D printer, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Mindstorms and more
A2 for STEAM to be real, it must be hands on. So, any equipment, recycled materials, etc is a must. We use iPads.
I'm a reading T wanting to learn more about . I will try to contribute tonight :)
A2: pt2 and a host of Maker Challenges to get Ss thinking and creating
A2 Any devices-chromebooks, ipads, computers, even unplugged activities! Ozobot, makey makey, make dos...
A2: We use sketchbooks in science - each S has a sketchbook and watercolor set for observations and note-taking. Love them!
A2 We're lucky enough to have a class set of Samsung Galaxy Tablets, chromebooks and iPads for tech...
A2: I use chromebooks. Google GAFE / Classroom, , , Padlet, student created projects, lots of collaboration
A2 ...we also have . Our media center is getting lots of stuff..., ...really excited!
Thats awesome! I would love to get MinecraftEDU this year
Q3 Whether you're a school or not, what are your 3 most meaningful / lessons/ units?
Do you have to get MInecraftEDU to use Minecraft in the classroom? Wanted to use it
A2.Teach in a one-to-one with IPads school, use lots of different apps/websites. https://t.co/i9KJeHWlMV is one that comes to mind.
A3 I use a Science Kit called Forces in Space. Ss explore toys and talk about what happens if there is no gravity.
not necessarily, although it helps. MinecraftEDU is a mod that gives teachers more control over the environment
A3: not sure if I have a top 3 - Turning into a rescue boat to rescue a lego person was really cool
My 5th graders had the best time researching and building aquariums for fish.
Great answer! There are some low cost ways to use VR cardboard to give them the sensation :)
So cool! How do you make this work time-wise?
A3:My professor does an activity with her students, she teachers them about reliable resources, then they look up PN Tree Octopus
Hello ! I'm Paul Solarz from Arlington Heights, IL. Joining late.
unfortunately no. Worse, when Microsoft acquired Mojang, they discontinued that version of MinecraftEDU
Where do I find them. I received a cardboard this summer but haven't used it.
in favor of their own version, which I have really yet to see.
How do or will you combine & or projects?
I got called away from chat I'll be back next time thx
Media spec. at my school (, you rock!) has been really great...time to use it during library time.
we also have time during our to work on things like this.
A4 Hoping to tie Ts curriculum into our STEAM pro-make them more meaningful & appealing to Ts. They have to give me time with Ss
A5: Having the students create their own problem and using STEAM to solve it could be a great way
A5 - Here are the supplies (feel free to add more). You know about the parts. Now go build an elbow joint: https://t.co/x85N80vJUG
Q6 - How can we make a difference with coding and programming? What are the benefits?
A6: Introducing programming to middle school girls, 6,7,8 grade girls loose their passion and we want the to keep it.
A6: Sphere is easy coding. Ss love it.
Q6 After having them code, discuss w/Ss how many things in our lives are run by code! When they realize they know how -wow!
I am new to this. What is Sphero?
A6: Allows for great problem soving and immediate feedback are awesome places to start
A6 Its not about coding;its about the process of learning, adapting & applying to situations so Ss can be successful in the future
has all the links you need! Great for programming at various levels.
Q6B - Is the language of the future coding?
A6B: I think it is the language of the present, something new will be here for the future, or a mod version of coding
we just talked about this w genius hour - creating apps/sites/etc to benefit others in skills or thru fundraising
A6B Programming is international. That is why we are using it for a global collaboration proj. But most likely will cont 2 change
A6B the language of the future is ADAPTABILITY; you need to know how to adapt rather than Program specific skills
https://t.co/TgCaLkTFCp
The statistics are overwhelmingly drastic in coding and programming for girls, student in poverty, and minorities.
A6B in the past 10 yrs tablets exploded; Python, Swift, Scratch etc-coding will constantly change; Ss must learn skills & adapt
List the 2 best ways that you could be supported with ? What do you need to be successful with STEAM?
A7 Time and money! Nothing much!
A6B:it will be an important component of the future there will always be some new form of communication i the world
For Admin not to need it to fit the test or be bested, understanding as to why we are the louder, messier room some days
A7 - Best ways to be supported w/STEAM: Include it in curriculum, support it from admin, provide supplies or $, offer PD, space.
I am lucky to have the admin support-the rest I have to creatively figure out!
A7 resources need compliment Ss skills/interests;Ss can then see the interconnectedness of subjects & applicable in areas
A7 A key aspect of is the inclusion of ART; ART needs to be funded; supported by core teachers as relevant to their subject
Sorry i dropped the chat. My daughter needed help with math homework. I'll read it later.
Q8- Thank you and please tell us 2 things you learned this school year?
Great job moderating this evening ! Please join next week for "Best accommodations for Ss with special needs."
A8 Patience and flexibility-have the patience to let your time be flexible-something I keep re-learning each year!
