A1 Write a children's book with one of my fave pic book heros as the illustrator & get really good at freakin' owning my new role--all aspects of it! Totes not even close to being there yet. #tlap
Professional ambition: to find or create a community that is authentic in its student-centered approach to learning. Superficial, brochure-level initiatives suck my soul dry. #tlap
A1. Of course looking for student academic growth is a must each year but I really want to increase parental involvement of those students who are in need of the most academic improvement/growth. We must make connections with them and find ways to get them in. #TLAP
A1 as a teacher, my goal is to help my students reach theirs ... as a professional, my goal is to collaborate with some amazing friends and be the illustrator for their publications...#tlap
Popping in for a few minutes between grading and bedtime!
A1: To do me, professionally and personally. Be the best version of myself, model being fearless and confident, and do what I know is best for my class #tlap
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
A2 The only thing that help me with my fear of failure is the support of my friends and PLN. When I doubt myself, they are there to remind me exactly how strong I am and why I can achieve anything. I am blessed to have such a strong core group of friends. The best! #tlap
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
A1: Personally-Do a better job of balancing personal/professional life. Professionally - I would like to publish writing to pay tribute to my amazing Aunt Marie and to pay it forward. #tlap
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
A2:
Reward students for their work rather than punish them for what they get wrong. Help them have confidence in their work and give them feedback on how to improve it.
#tlap
A2: Connecting with other educators like we are doing here. Writing and blogging (if only for myself), and practicing gratitude for the all the wonderful things I have including the incredible opportunity that is being a teacher. #tlap
a2 sometimes I share my own failures as quick oral ancedotes with one student, sometimes they're public confessions, sometimes they're "anonymous" short stories to discuss/analyze #tlap#leadlap
A2: I value growth mindset due to being inspired by @joboaler. I just put up a soar into a new mindset bulletin board in the hallway, and I plan on showing brief growth mindset videos in class. I tell my Ss that fail is the first attempt in learning. #tlap
A1- I’m working on making the shift to a classroom that is genuinely relevant to my students, teaching my content as a set of tools for them to use to reach their own goals, not just “teching up” the same 20th century skills. #tlap
#tlap
Personal solution: Prayer, support, bible, read lots of books, write a lot too.
For students: Talk it out, talk against it, talk with each other and reflect in book.
Defend with block of determination followed by a kick of "WA CHOOKA!"
A2: Remindming myself of the failures that put me where I am. I strap up my running shoes and prove to myself what a badass I am. For others, I share my own failures and try to be as human as possible without dipping into the cycle of dismay..where no progress is made! #tlap
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
A1: I’m hoping to set up fantastic online portfolios on Seesaw where families can see the awesome work my kids do, also to make phone calls to let families know how awesome their kids are! Personally, to grow as a leader and build more confidence #TLAP
A1b: Also trying to liven our staff up a little bit with my shenanigans. Used to close my door. They may have stolen my pink plastic trumpet, but deep down I know they appreciated my music. “I gotta he more like that” is the response instead of “ugh.” So that’s good!!! #tlap
A2) I am doing this reflection with my new students, many students are sharing fears that they NEED to face. I hope to provide support for these students and also share my personal doubts/strength applied, throughout the year #tlap
"DNA" Flipgrid reflections - learned of this idea in a #tlap chat. Students share a "Dream" they have, a "Need" for improvement or support, and an "Ability" that makes them unique. Also helping me learn 200+ names! #flipgridfever#caedchat#tellyourstory
A2 I always try to make my students feel they are in a safe place....one where it is free to make mistakes without fear of judgment. On a personal level, I send up lots of prayers!!! #tlap
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
A2: Expressing my belief in them. When they are nervous about something, I try to give specific reasons why I think they CAN do it, and remind them that if it doesn't work, it's a great learning opportunity and a pathway to a bigger door to open! #GatewaysToSuccess#tlap
A2: I give fear the knockout punch w/ 2 things...
1. Strong, healthy relationships with ppl who inspire me.
2. Remind myself that if I try I may fail, but I definitely fail if I never try.
It works, most of the time. When it doesn't, I try again tomorrow.
#TLAP#Path2Serendipity
A2) I acknowledge their reaction to anything New is either fear or faith. I remind them the worst that happens is an opportunity to learn and grow and together we get after it #tlap
A2 I am keeping my copies of #tlap and #REALedu close for reference, blogging, have expanded my PLN, and visuals like the Pyramid of Success to center me. #TLAP
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
#tlap A.2 I have certain teachers that help me understand it takes time to learn something new. They listen when I am frustrated. It is the same with Ss. Give them little reminders we are all learning and listen when they are frustrated.
A2: I provide students with endless amounts of positive words of affirmation. Never let students settle -- find a way to push them to not accept anything other than their personal best. #tlap
A2: One of my all time favorite lessons to do with students is a lesson on failure. I design tasks that are impossible to complete, that challenge their frustration level, & bring the students to the edge of discontent...only to model failure as a journey not a destination. #tlap
A2: I just remember how many times I've failed and how much I've grown due to those failures. And if I'm not doing something in pretty regular intervals that isn't a little scary, then I'm not trying hard enough. #tlap
A2 let Ss and Ts know that I have failed tell my story and share my approach at learning rather than failing. Model this behavior own what didn’t work and show how relflecrion creates new opportunity #tlap
A2: Modeling risk taking in front of students. Going first. Letting everyone know that you make mistakes and that's OK because making mistakes is how we grow. #tlap
A2: Give them chances to try, learn, and try again. Be open about my mistakes. Never allow student performance to change how I feel about them. Honor the journey AND the destination. #tlap
A2: I’m a logical person, I blame it on being a Virgo😝when things go wrong I say; what’s the worst that could happen? And honestly it’s never something bad enough that will prevent me from trying. True optimism is recognizing what could go wrong and overcoming it. #tlap
A2: I start the class off by explaining that failing is expected in our classroom - that it is our motto. We talk about the fact that I will not fail them for failing and that it is not the product but the process instead. #tlap
A1 B- Implement digital badges, (@ShellTerrell ) promote Ts learning from each other by visiting classrooms without admins in the way getting and giving great ideas, and making my District better for kids! #tlap
A2 fear of failure is such a big hurdle to overcome. Surrounding myself with incredibly supportive and encouraging educators who model risk taking and share their failures keeps me going. Models for me as I try to model the same for my students. Let’s jump together! #tlap
So true!! And...the decisions are very arbitrary. Keep applying to as many as you can and don't let a no stop you. #tlap was turned down many places at the start!
A2: One of my all time favorite lessons to do with students is a lesson on failure. I design tasks that are impossible to complete, that challenge their frustration level, & bring the students to the edge of discontent...only to model failure as a journey not a destination. #tlap
A2:
Quite literally. I bring my students in. Not every class all the time. I say, “Hey, humans, I’m not so sure about this, but we’re going to try it. It may fail, but we’ll learn from that. I’m asking you for help and ideas to make this better for the other classes.” #tlap
A2 I'm a big believer in 3 things that relate to this: #GrowthMindset, Failure can be a positive learning event and E + R = O (if Overcoming that Fear of Failure is my *O*, what *R* do I need to utilize?) #TLAP
I don’t know if I have a go to but sure could use something. I think I have that fear of failure too. I just want to do a great job at everything I do and sometimes that “I’m going to fail just pops up and it’s hard to get rid off.” #tlap
A2: if we don't take risks in our teaching how can we expect our Ss to take risks in their learning? We must model what we preach - if something doesn't work, we should be transparent, learn from it, and share with our Ss. #tlap
A2:fear of failure is hard for everyone but making it a mantra that growth results from struggle & sometimes failure. The learning is in the trying. Trying new things in class & letting Ss know we are all going to try, unsure of the outcome, including me! #tlap
A2: Convincing others that "NO" is not synonymous with "NEVER"; it is more akin to "NOT YET". We mustn't give up after first failure. Are you willing to fight for the win? Do you have what it takes to get the "YES"? #tlap
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
Q2: It’s about the journey! I always share that failure is about becoming stronger and learning more about oneself. When you fail you are a warrior and you keep fighting the good battle. #tlap
A2: When I make a mistake, I try hard to acknowledge it and model how to keep moving forward. I messed up in our weekly school-wide assembly this morning and asked students for a “do-over”. If we want our students to keep going, we need to show them that it’s OK. #tlap
A2: I always remember that even if something doesn’t work the first time, I’ve still learned something about myself. It’s also important to have human sounding boards to bounce ideas to work out some kinks ahead of time. #tlap
Q1 What great ambition are you hoping to attain this year?
Professionally and/or personally? Dream big, think big...then let's knockout everything in the way!! #tlap
#tlap I love modeling risk taking, pushing other to take a risk and then support them in their journey. I'll also push them to read #RunLAP, as that has changed my mindset.
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
A2: When running nuclear casualty training, I'd always build in extra time for our simulator so the group could stop, discuss and backup for a retry.
The fear of failure was gone when they knew there were second chances. #TLAP
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
A2: I always use my own personal struggles in life to encourage others to be risk-takers. I always encourage them to think outside the box and challenge the status quo. Only then can progress be attained. #tlap
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
A2 I think that when we are faced with the fear to fail we need to plow ahead at full speed without looking back. Fear can't catch us when we're moving too fast! #tlap
A2: I share stories from my life, I stay positive, discuss growth mindset. The first project we did in class a lot of Ss pushed themselves and tried podcasts, screencastify, blogs and shared research with others. #tlap
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
#TLAP A2. Integrating technology @seesaw and looking at more collaborative space, providing COMFORT ZONES in mind and physical...should encourage students' to perform and be fearful of expressing.
This is a fantastic idea. At our school, we do physical badges outside of our classroom doors to encourage discussion. Results have been disappointing, but it's still early! #TLAP
I want to continue reading and learning through @dbc_inc. I also want to start blogging with my 2nd graders. I have a lot more but that’s a good start 🤣 #tlap
Q1 What great ambition are you hoping to attain this year?
Professionally and/or personally? Dream big, think big...then let's knockout everything in the way!! #tlap
A2: to fight fear of failure in the classroom, I always make it clear that students can use my feedback to revise & always get back to 100%. Failure is always an option on the road to success #tlap
A2: I think its really important to ackowledge it and then discuss with Ss how we overcome it...thinking of our passions, our joys, the wonderful people in our lives, our personal uniqueness #TLAP
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
a2 had a student today wonder if "malleable" derives from Latin root "mal". There were snickers. I said "(a) he is thinking, and he took a risk and (b) it is far better in this class to do that than to not think or take risks". Kid went from frowning to beaming #tlap#leadlap
A2: Teaching about grit and growth mindset, showing them that even us as teachers make mistakes and that it is actually good to make mistakes because that is how you learn #tlap@burgessdave
A2: remind myself that I’m the only thing that stands in the way of me trying. Having a strong #PLN or #PLF that I can trust for honest feedback is helpful. For learners I share my failure and how that’s helped me grow. It helps to be reminded nobody’s perfect. #tlap
A2 I stay away from negative feedback. I critique but feedback is positive. I also do not do zeros. We learn from every failure. My students have come so far in life I build not break. #tlap
I love that so many teachers nowadays have honest discussions with kiddos about how failure feels and how we can use it to our advantage. This + modeling that throughout the school year is powerful. #TLAP
A2: setting it up that it’s ok to fail, model and practice failure, and when all else fails, sit down next to them and learn right there with them!! Oh, and it all starts with relationships from day 1. #tlap
A1 Looking to help more teachers so they can help more students! Widening the sphere of influence beyond my own students by sharing what’s working (and what’s not)! Presenting more, writing more, discussing more and with more people. #tlap
Q3 Doubt is known for its Left Hook often referred to as Believing You Have to Figure It All Out Before You Begin.
In what ways do you block this brutal Left Hook and/or encourage your learners to take leaps of faith? #tlap
A2) fear of failure, hmmmm. I don’t think most people/kids ever conquer it. I surely have not, but teaching kids to not give up when the going gets tough is a great start. Perseverance is a character trait. We can encourage them to be “grittier” #tlap
A2 | To overcome fear:
✔️try it in a safe environment
✔️set a time goal
✔️allow yourself GRACE
...had do to those things to overcome my “Vox Paralysis”
https://t.co/y5YRXqRvxH#tlap
A2. Building relationships, Encourage Ss to try their best! Never give up! Believe in themselves!Share with them about my failures, stories, everyone has failures. What you learn from failing, is the takeaway! Problem solving, different ideas, different pathways to suc. #tlap
#tlap A2. We read an article about want to get into college learn how to fail. Basically it outlines that colleges want students who can fail and overcome these setbacks and move forward.
Hey Mike! Love that you have that option. Makes risk taking a little less scary. I bet you get great results as students become more and more comfortable with taking risks! #tlap
When I am part of a chat like this, I just can't believe the positivity and enthusiasm. I want to get more colleagues on board. Chats are such fell-good moments! #tlap#PLNsRock
A1: I have always been on the fence about sharing my voice and story in fear of what others might think. This summer I took a leap, actually got nudged by @CoriOrlando1 and @JoyKirr, and started blogging. Give it a look, if you would like: https://t.co/d90LCLpYr3. #tlap
Q1 What great ambition are you hoping to attain this year?
Professionally and/or personally? Dream big, think big...then let's knockout everything in the way!! #tlap
A2: I am a risk taker in the classroom. I also love to reflect and continue to grow. I have a pretty open classroom and my Ss feel safe if they get the wrong answer and they keep trying with my encouragement #tlap
A2: Blatantly and with humor owning up to my failures. Showing failure like it's done in a video game, explosively and entertaining. Show Ss lots is examples of it and how you can grow from it. #tlap
A2: When I make mistakes in the classroom, I make sure to acknowledge it & model that it’s ok to fail/not be perfect. You just get up and try again! #TLAP
A3: Model, something I show my Ss daily is when things go wrong, you learn from them and try again. I did it today with my #bethewildcard Hedbanz review game. It was met with a lot of resistance, but I modeled for another T who loved it for their classroom. #tlap
My Ss learn/know that when I use the phrase "OK, let's see where this goes" that's I'm know operating off the map. I see their energy get spiked b/c it's usually in response to their Qs or ideas. When we finish, I always ask "how did that go for you?" Vulnerability. #tlap
A2. I do a lesson on persistence and proper learning development where I start telling the kids that babies are stupid because they can't talk or walk or feed themselves. I get them to say they just haven't learned yet and we expand from there to talk about brain pushups. #tlap
A3:
For when I become a teacher I am going to help learners do creative things they want and show that they can take risks because even their teacher is going to make mistakes in the classroom.
#tlap
A1 A1 to utilize my blog and start writing regularly as I rewrite the items in separate emails across my district! It would be efficient to utilize my https://t.co/mp06V8077c blog I believe in so passionately but it is not showing #tlap
A1) I would love to maximize my impact on creating a more equitable educational system. To shake up the status quo continues to require tenacity and perseverance in chasing that ultimate goal of Principal in an underserved community. #TLAP
Q1 What great ambition are you hoping to attain this year?
Professionally and/or personally? Dream big, think big...then let's knockout everything in the way!! #tlap
A3 I remind students that no one (myself included) ever has it all figured out before beginning. As soon as you think you have something figured out, life happens. #tlap
A2- I like to lead my guys to research “mistakes that worked” as a way to encourage reflection and adaptation. Without mistakes, we wouldn’t have the chocolate chip cookie! #tlap
So powerful. It's one thing to tell your students to be comfortable with failure, but it's a whole other thing to show that you are too! Keep up the good work! #TLAP
Yay!!! Happy birthday to my new overanalytical, perfectionist friend who prob takes everything personally! So happy that #tlap brought us together tonight!
Q2: Me-I'm a drive home kinda thinker. It's on the drive home that I review today, strategize tomorrow & imagine the next big idea. It keeps me excited and moving forward. Ss-I point out my own mistakes & encourage taking risks big & small. Takes the Fear out of Failure. #tlap
A3: There are two ways to get in the pool. The first way is to put your first in to check the temp and then slowly get in. But I think we all know there is a way more enjoyable way to get in... Cannonball! Create those cannonball moments for yourself and others! #tlap
A2–as a leader it’s SO important to celebrate those Ts who take a risk and try something outside their comfort zone. The process can be just as powerful as the end result. #tlap
My favorite thing is that now they're dragging me in. @emueller1860 is doing Gamification this year and couldn't be prouder of her taking a giant risk like this. #tlap#xplap
A3 I make sure that my students know I'm there to support them no matter what. I'm vulnerable, consistent & authentic. To prove my dedication, they are teaching me a passion this year & I'm learning 60 different things. Can't wait to share these journeys. Get ready to laugh #tlap
Q3 Doubt is known for its Left Hook often referred to as Believing You Have to Figure It All Out Before You Begin.
In what ways do you block this brutal Left Hook and/or encourage your learners to take leaps of faith? #tlap
A2. Stick together and encourage each other. Failure is part of the process on the way to success.
“Successful people do the things they know will eventually lead to reaching their goals. “ #tlap
As an Admin, and above all, as a teacher, it’s about making them sweat with a towel. We cannonball together and I consistently provide the support regardless of the outcome. It’s about taking the plunge together! #tlap
A3. I try to model change for others.....”hope doesn’t create change - only action creates change”. I try to also support and encourage others even when they take small steps. #tlap
Q3 Doubt is known for its Left Hook often referred to as Believing You Have to Figure It All Out Before You Begin.
In what ways do you block this brutal Left Hook and/or encourage your learners to take leaps of faith? #tlap
Q3 Doubt is known for its Left Hook often referred to as Believing You Have to Figure It All Out Before You Begin.
In what ways do you block this brutal Left Hook and/or encourage your learners to take leaps of faith? #tlap
A2 Just "cannonball in"! You'll SWIM! It might be a belly flop but at least it was something. Just make a splash! Try it.
Those are things I tell myself and my learners.#tlap
And sometimes, pals like @burgessdave have to remind me of my own theory. 😜👉🏼https://t.co/nEzZ2qNrW5
A3: We teach kids agile, which focuses on doing the most important tasks first. Teaching them to value action and how to prioritize helps them not get overwhelmed with the big picture they can’t fully visualize. #tlap
A3 This has been a tough hurdle to overcome—especially after that left hook lands on occasion. Just confidence that I can take a hit, get back up, and I have my PLN in my corner. Knowing that and also being that support for my students. #tlap
Q3 Doubt is known for its Left Hook often referred to as Believing You Have to Figure It All Out Before You Begin.
In what ways do you block this brutal Left Hook and/or encourage your learners to take leaps of faith? #tlap
A2 Simply really. You will never know till you try, and every failure is a learning experience. Plus, honestly, it is fun to laugh at yourself when things don't go perfect. #tlap
A3: Model, model, model. I think saying "what is the worst that can happen?" I am a born risk taker. Seeing others takes risks gives me a high! I just love it!!! #tlap
A3: I love that when you first skydive you have to do it in tandem, with someone literally attached to you and helping you do something really scary. This is how we should approach doubt with our kids; in tandem. Soon they will be able to do it on their own. #tlap
invaluable, students can sense a faker better than anything. much better, much more honest, to admit it and ask for forgiveness. well done. #tlap#leadlap
The modeling is so powerful! I feel like a lot of teachers talk about kids being comfortable with the risk of failure, but they miss opportunities to model it. #TLAP
A3: Ah, this is so hard for me! I am such a planner. The best thing I can do is, again, model. Show students that I don’t always have the answer, and, instead, involve them in the process. We are a team, and we are in this learning journey together! #tlap
A3: I take a page out of my parents book and say ‘can’t never could.’ We talk about how not even trying is worse than failing. You can’t learn if you don’t try. Then I say it in the mirror. #tlap
A3 | Transparency is a big doubt chaser for me! When I am honest with myself and others that: “I’m trying something new here”, it’s easier to take risks
#tlap
Q3 I teach my Ss how to block doubt and give it a great big uppercut! I have some Ss who have never felt faith so I have to build confidence, encouragement, and love. #tlap
A3: Oh my goodness, my kiddos see me fail all the time!!! I just throw things out there to see if they work sometimes. I’ve scrapped lessons in the middle of the lesson when Ss look bored. I encourage them to take risks by taking risks myself. #tlap
A2 ...and boy does that right jab sting. The ultimate block is to continue learning and standing strong on the foundation of that hard earned knowledge even in face of piercingly loud status quo resistance. #TLAP
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
@burgessdave A3 Teach students to think outside the box. Let them know that it’s okay to fail, as long as they get right back up and try again. I think this also ties in to teaching about growth mindset and grit. Every expert was once a beginner. #tlap
To encourage leaps of faith in my future classroom I plan to familiarize the students with one another and myself, so everyone is comfortable, and will feel safe and confident expressing ideas. #tlap
A2. Teaching kids resilience.. persistence, and grit. Don’t ever give up. Try one more time. 📘when you have exhausted all possbilities, remember this: you haven’t. 📌#tlap
A3: The best way to encourage learners to try the untested is to showcase the work of their peers. I love showcasing work of past students & the risks they took to help others take a leap. That's good Peer Pressure #tlap
A3: By showing my staff and students that in life, sometimes it’s ok to fail because that’s how we learn. I call them lessons in life not mistakes. #tlap
Q2 my job is to help Tt integrate tech I hear “I’m not that techy” a lot. I ask some basic tech ?s of things I know they already know how to do. I tell them they have the skill I’m just here to show the tool (date the tool- marry the skill) #tlap
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
A3: Trying to create that safety net for them. Allow them to team teach, or for me to model it for them so they see how it works. Not walking them to the ledge and pushing them off. #tlap
A3. Showing them when failing, we must problem solve to figure out what went wrong! Redo, try again, until success is maintained! We need to stay positive, believe in ourselves, take a deep breath, and go for it! #tlap
A3:As a T, reconsider what & how you grade(@tguskey is great). As admin, get Ts to think outside the box on what they value& face the disconnect with that& what they grade, if any. Model struggle, lesson, growth, repeat! #tlap
A3: sometimes you just have to jump in...some will learn faster, some will learn slower, some will learn with u. Just do it and keep growing from whichever place u started. #tlap
A1 I hope to continue spreading the word on high quality performance-based assessments and push our leaders and teachers to leave standardized testing and standard pacing guides behind choking on our trailblazing dust. #tlap
A3: in the classroom #gamification was a huge motivating factor for Ss to try even when they weren’t necessarily confident. When I asked them to try something new, I took the leap too, like with #sketchnotes so that they truly knew it was ideas not art #tlap
A3: Trust is built on relationships and empathy. We must work hard to show students the meaning and influence that they hold in our classrooms. When there is trust, there is the willingness to take risks and a leap of faith. #tlap
#tlap
Rules at the beginning of year enforced throughout year:
Take chances in your learning
Teach each other what you know
Think about the problem aloud or on paper, not in your head.
These are non traditional rules which I think are important.
A3: I don’t say no and when things go wrong, I don’t freak out, like when a hermit crab goes missing because 4 year olds house didn’t work Or there’s paint all over the floor from a #rubegoldberg machine. Anything is possible with a little risk. Make risk taking look fun. #tlap
A3: I believe in failing and then picking myself up to try again. I had people tell me I wouldn’t go to college and finish because I was a young mother. Two degrees later I keep pushing forward. #tlap
#tlap A3 - Listen, learn, and support....let fellow educators know I have their back when they make mistakes as long as they have their Ss best interest in mind and are willing to work hard for them.....Nothing great happens without taking chances and putting yourself out there!
It's scary! Writing in front of students while thinking out loud, or reading aloud with passion, working thorough a difficult problem, or acknowledging you don't know something can be hard. But so worth it. #tlap
A2 - Reflection is my go-to for overcoming any Fear of Failure - reminding myself of what my goals are, why I'm pursuing them, what's worked (or not) in the past, brainstorming new tactics. #tlap
A3 Honestly, this has to be built on A1 and A2. If you've shown that you set goals (and expect them to) and aren't scared off by the of risk & failure (and expect they feel the same), then you can encourage these "leaps of faith." #TLAP
A3:
The 1st thing is to build relationships as trust. Teaching drama is weird bc fear of speaking on stage is palpable in some MS Ss. Others were born on the stage. The biggest thing that helps is that I take the leap w them. I perform. They perform. Little bites at a time. #tlap
Q3 Doubt is known for its Left Hook often referred to as Believing You Have to Figure It All Out Before You Begin.
In what ways do you block this brutal Left Hook and/or encourage your learners to take leaps of faith? #tlap
A3: model by example! I am always trying something new and putting myself out there and making sure# I narrate to mySs before or after that hey! Thanks for trying something new with me. As far as doubt goes?? I get my stuff done and then take a nap to shut out its voice #tlap
A3: I admit that I do not know everything. I am a 1st year teacher, and I have a steep learning curve, but I smile and always give 110 percent because I am passionate about what I do. I work hard, and I refuse to let negativity get in my way. #tlap
A3:Year after year I have Ss say I'm not good at writing.I can't write.I can't think of anything to write about. I spend time writing with them individually, thinking aloud, and eventually they're writing and it's hard to stop them. Get involved with them in the task! #tlap
A3: Diving in is the fastest way to learn anything. If you spend all your time preparing to do something, you will never do anything. Most of my students want to succeed quickly. They also must learn that the perfect can be the enemy of the good. #tlap
#TLAP A3. I become a learner myself with them....I pause ..let them take over.its always interesting to see what all they will come up with. When they see they have the ownership and I have the faith in them ...they go full on .
A3. If I'm crazy and out there, they will follow. If I dance, so will they. And even if they don't, they will know that this is a SWOS zone (share without shame) #tlap
A3: Take the leap with them. I liked to push the boundaries of training so I often included my Ss in my lesson plan development.
We would also have unstructured, untestable time where we could explore without consequences. #TLAP
Q3 Doubt is known for its Left Hook often referred to as Believing You Have to Figure It All Out Before You Begin.
In what ways do you block this brutal Left Hook and/or encourage your learners to take leaps of faith? #tlap
Just saying things like, "Today we're going to try out FlipGrid (or whatever) and if it doesn't work, I'll figure it out tonight and we'll try again tomorrow." Such good modeling! #TLAP
A3: This one has been tough for me in my job, but I've tried to just learn a little bit about it and tell them that there's probably lots of ways to do it, let's find some together. #tlap
a3 tough one. first thought is when I say you can risk a lot and either lose nothing or gain a lot, or you can risk nothing and gain nothing or lose an opportunity #tlap#leadlap
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
A1: I wasn't to become a stronger leader in my building. After reading #innovatorsmindset I felt there is more I can do to be a better leader with my colleagues by empowering them with what I have learned #tlap
Q1 What great ambition are you hoping to attain this year?
Professionally and/or personally? Dream big, think big...then let's knockout everything in the way!! #tlap
A3 tell story’s of all those that did what people said couldn’t be done. Charge forward, take action and lead by example. Build a culture of growth not a culture of perfection. Let Ss and Ts know we expect failure that is where real learning takes place #tlap
Q3: I'm a huge cheerleader, I celebrate Ss for big AND small strides. Here's my script: 1. Ms. B was in MS once 2. It can be tough 3. I will never be upset with you for trying 4. You know I love you & think you're awesome 5. Try this out because I love it when you... #tlap
A3 The perfect counter to that nasty left hook is a genuine love for those learners you lead coupled with an effervescent encouragement and embrace of those necessary failures that drive innovation. FAIL = First Attempt In Learning. #TLAP
Q3 Doubt is known for its Left Hook often referred to as Believing You Have to Figure It All Out Before You Begin.
In what ways do you block this brutal Left Hook and/or encourage your learners to take leaps of faith? #tlap
A3) I think Ts should guide Ss through academic struggle. How else will they deal with academic obstacles without practice. Ts should not be “bulldozer” teachers. #tlap
A3 Encouraging ideas and doing things different ways. I 100% don't always have the best way, so sometimes I have kids give input (honestly, those have been my most successful classes) #tlap
Day 5 and so far we have used Play Doh to introduce ourselves, created skits to learn names, created expectations for ourselves & each other & set goals. Relationships, expectations, routines and goals matter. Don’t overlook them. Once they are set the curriculum will come #tlap
A4: I'm doing this! I have come too far to just go this far. I have to learn, grow and achieve and learn from my mistakes and FAILs. So be quiet voice and I'm going to do this! #tlap
A3 I struggle with not having it all figured out before I start... but at the same time, when I get an idea in my head, nothing will stop me from getting it done. I will find a way and I thankfully always have someone helping to guide me or pick me up when I fall! #tlap
A3: (2) with Ts I build on my own experiences in the classroom by sharing my failures and being able to laugh at them. Then we can brainstorm and discuss different ways to attack the idea wo fear of “bad” ideas. #tlap
A3: In order to get my kids to leap...they have to know I will catch them if needed! I really work hard to get to know my kids and make sure they’re making good sized leaps! #TLAP
A4:
I am going to put behind me the critic and realize that when I become a teacher I am teaching children and children like things to be creative and I may critic their work but in a creative way.
#tlap
A4: Perfectionism is one of the great killers of action and creativity in the world. Don't have analysis paralysis...as Steve Jobs said, "Real artists ship." In other words...send it out into the world. If you wait for perfect...you will never do it. #tlap
a3 Not going to lie, I like to plan everything out. I KNOW the plans will prob change, but for the most part--I like have a plan with lots of details. And...when it's time to jump--even if it isn't quite when/where/how I planned-- I JUMP. #tlap
A4: Whenever I am feeling doubt, I go to my PLN on Twitter or connect with my co-teacher in action @AndeleeEspinosa for some positive encouragement #tlap
A4 For this, I will be extra honest & vulnerable. I still haven't figured it out. I am my biggest critic and I doubt so much. If it wasn't for my support system, there are many things I would still not have done. Your friends are the best medicine. They help you, see YOU. #tlap
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
A3: At the beginning of the sem my Ss learn to unlearn traditional school thinking. Once they get that it is ok to fail they are more likely to try. https://t.co/kdD9t7sHA8#tlap
A3: I say this to the entire school each day, “ you are safe & you are loved” we also repeat everyday, “ I will walk like a champion, I will talk like a champion, because I am a champion” #tlap
A2: I've tried to surround myself with others who build me up and who remind me when I doubt myself that I can and should continue on the journey I have started #TLAP
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
A4: Remind myself (& Ss) that we need to keep our inspirations and positive life forces close! Maybe that means having a list of accomplishments/positive people to reference or knowing there is someone in your life you can go to & confide in when that inner critic comes out #TLAP
A3: building the plane as you fly it is the only way to travel! ✈️ figuring it out as you go is the most fun, especially when you involve others! #TLAP
A4: The inner critic is a good thing, but students need to train that voice. It can drive you to succeed if it speaks constructively instead of destructively. “You are NOT good enough” must become “you are not good enough YET.” #tlap
A3. Make sure I practice the 2% mindset. When we look at the world through a clean windshield not a rear view mirror we can grow! #actinspiteoffear#tlap
A4: Recognize that just because something has been done the same way forever doesn’t mean it’s the best approach. Always adapt and create new lessons/activities to Ss best interests #tlap
A4 Make sure your class allows for failures provided you learn from them. Treat major grades like art projects. Your final grade isn't on your thumbnails, it's on your final product and growth. #tlap
a3, "man, Christopher Columbus set sail around an Earth that everyone that was flat. If he was wrong, he'd have fallen off into the cosmos. [don't ask how he treated the natives, I'm trying to be inspirational here] You can handle this assignment!" #tlap#leadlap
A4: This may be odd but I mean it. I have learned and been taught some more but when I am healthy (which has been regained at times) I am not a critic of myself, only a reflector. Reflecting is powerful, always. Criticizing never is! #tlap
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
A3. Make sure I practice the 2% mindset. When we look at the world through a clean windshield not a rear view mirror we can grow! #actinspiteoffear#tlap
A4: Bueller, Bueller... I’m my own worst critic and get in my own way sometimes! I constantly refer back to @AllysonApsey’s You Are Enough quote. This is one of my biggest struggles. #tlap
A3: When I think about times in my life when I took a leap, it was because I knew someone had my back and was cheering me on. If we want people to leap, they need to know they have our support. #tlap
A1: Developing a student podcast, creating mindfulness practice in my classroom and refining my own professional through journaling. Present my face off at an #edcamps. Encourage student motivation by using digital vlogs or journals #tlap
A4: I started playing my 70's game with the Ss knowing full well it wasn't even close to perfect. I allowed the Ss to tell me how to fix it along the way. Getting better, but I'll still take input. #tlap
A4 There is no place for paralysis by analysis. Our kids need leadership brave enough to try any innovation while being introspective enough to shift and pivot based on instant feedback re: effectiveness. Imagine a school with organizational agility. 🤯 #TLAP
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
A4: As a creative person myself, I will encourage students to get out of their comfort zones every day in their writing, and never hold back their creativity. #tlap
A4. Tell them to close their eyes, and use their imagination! What can you visualize in your mind that you might wish to create or design! Any patterns, shapes, sizes?#tlap
A3: I don’t say no and when things go wrong, I don’t freak out, like when a hermit crab goes missing because 4 year olds house didn’t work Or there’s paint all over the floor from a #rubegoldberg machine. Anything is possible with a little risk. Make risk taking look fun. #tlap
A4: "The best way to get a good idea is get a lot of ideas." - Linus Pauling Be PROLIFIC...not perfect. I call it The Wedding Photographer Principle in #tlap
A4: By starting to look at my losses and think about how to turn them into future wins. Starting my "Wins And Losses" podcast last year really helped me parry this punch, and also help me aid my students when they are faced with this punch. #tlap
A4- refuse to allow sarcasm, closed mindedness and embrace fresh ideas...be open to a different perspectives, a different point of view will not only improve you as a leader but will also encourage Ss to express different ideas not matter how crazy they may seem. #tlap
A4: ugh! It gets the best of us, but accepting that perfection doesn’t exist gets you a knock out. One Ss last year wrote “rather than perfection, you helped me see greatness” #tlap
A4: I teach government which is a state tested content area. Sometimes I feel as though I’m rushing through everything... it helps to slow down a bit! Example.. was trying to give a test by Friday... pushed it back to Tuesday and told myself that was okay! #tlap
A4 we actually did this activity today to prove that we are all creative and that when you let down your guard amazing things can happen. A constant reminder of this helps a lot. #tlap
Today we learned that when the stakes are low & no grades are attached, students are willing to jump in & be creative. I can’t wait until we start working on creating new solutions to real problems with this same mindset. #creationstation#thinklikeachild#innovate@TG2Chat
A2: Celebrate failures as an opportunity to learn! Fail together, not alone. Push each student to the point that they all experience failure often and be there with support strategies to make the next fight to at least go one more round. #tlap
A4: Believe in your purpose. Having a hard day—-Close your eyes, breathe, and remind yourself of your why. Choose to make each day your masterpiece. #tlap
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
A4) We are our own worst critic. You have to go with your gut. If it is right for you & feels right, then it’s right. Simple as that. If you’re inner nag won’t shush then there is probably a good reason for it or a lesson to learned. I would listen & take mental note. #tlap
A3: I want to add that kids have to feel safe to fall. There is a safety net in my class, it's me. Fear does beget learning. Fostering trust & relationships does. Testing new ideas is just a "normal" in my class. We laugh about mistakes & talk about next-times. #tlap
Since my job is a lot of PD & sometimes I don’t know the staff. I explicitly tell them when I don’t know it all but we are going to explore together . I then buy forgiveness donuts if it goes too awry! #tlap
Q3 Doubt is known for its Left Hook often referred to as Believing You Have to Figure It All Out Before You Begin.
In what ways do you block this brutal Left Hook and/or encourage your learners to take leaps of faith? #tlap
A4: Internalizing the idea that the perfect lesson doesn't exist. It is the totality of instruction/work, over the course of days, weeks, months, and years, that makes the difference. This gives us opportunities to take risks, and genuinely enjoy teaching/learning. #tlap
A4: I was in a unique situation where I was doing training for nuclear operators that had literally been on the job longer than I'd been alive.
I learned to just be ok with being wrong sometimes and own it, and it all works out. #tlap
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
A3: I try to encourage my learners to not worry if something is graded or if they don't succeed. I want to see effort, I want to see collaboration and thought process. If they trust me and give me their all I'll get them where they need to be #TLAP
Q3 Doubt is known for its Left Hook often referred to as Believing You Have to Figure It All Out Before You Begin.
In what ways do you block this brutal Left Hook and/or encourage your learners to take leaps of faith? #tlap
A3 - Oh I struggle with this one as your typical first-born A Type personality. :( I guess my recommendation is to break it down into baby steps. What can I (you) do today that will make a difference? #tlap
A4 Reflect and revise is part of the process, every process. I use no-stakes instruction-less challenges to prove it and then we apply the lesson to reading and writing and action. #tlap
A4) Detailed backwards planning helps me get my students to the destination, but I have to make sure we are not chained to the plan. Way against my nature. #tlap
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
A4 that inner voice used to control me now I when it challenges growth I simply remind myself nobody ever accomplished anything worth while by playing it safe. My PLN has given me this confidence. Lconstantly tell myself to “Take The First Step NOW!” #tlap
A4:
Literally, therapy. My inner critic was stealing all joy. My therapist helped me get in touch with my inner teacher—which shouldn’t have been as hard as it was. She helped me give myself chances, grace, forgiveness, and to stop beating myself up. I’m a better teacher. #tlap
A4: this was huge for me when I started blogging. I focused too much on the post being “perfect” before posting. That’s why I decided to vlog. I am able to build relationships with viewers through mannerisms, etc., + recently I’ve felt ready to blog again too! I’ll do both! #tlap
A7 I gotta think that my passion for #sketchnotes with students is something I do to serve students I don't know but hope will bring them (or their teachers) a new way to express themselves and improved learning. And I get to share it at the @edtechteam#NorthGeorgiaSummit! #tlap
#tlap
Get messy with your learning! Make mistakes, learn from them. Don't plan a lesson completely, just have an idea and go with it. Be a bit impromptu. Just go the opposite way.
A4: Never doubt yourself and always take time to enjoy the little things in life. For me, it’s about my students but the greatest knockout to doubt is that my campus is an A rated campus and yet it’s located in a very low socio-economic area. Boom 💥 #tlap
A4 Again that tough battle. My inner critic is the worst. Just center myself, do my best in the moment, and let things take their natural course. #tlap
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
Honestly, I go on Twitter or Instagram and check out all the other amazing educators trying new things! It inspires me and keeps me motivated! Since using these media outlets for educational purposes, I have been a lot more confident! #tlap
A3: to be honest, I think being a mom has helped me woh this. Sometimes things are just messy, and there’s nothing you can do but sit back and enjoy the love and learning that’s happening despite the mess! #tlap
A4: My inner critic is a gigantic beast who has been fed by some mistakes in the past. I work hard to step back from what’s bothering me and analyze it with people from my PLN. They help me tame the beast with perspective #tlap
A4 We need to show our students that while being a "work in progress" we don't have time to fret about perfection. We need to learn from each mistake and move forward. That's progress. Worrying about being perfect gets you nowhere. #tlap
A4 perfectionnisme is a battle I am constantly battling in my own head. I’m sure a lot of it comes from my love of attention to detail. But, I’ve had no choice but to let go of some of this because it’s not realistic. I have to remind myself of this All.The.Time. #tlap
#TLAP A4. Reinforcement, positive constructive feedback, working as a team , even if I do reprimand( which does happen) it's with a sense of " I am doing this because I have faith in you" "do you think you've done the right thing"? " Meet me after class""I am sure you meant well"
man, @burgessdave is coming in high and tight! A4 we start the year with a 'baseline' essay, no rules, to rubric. after each essay, students compare to the baseline. they're always amazed at the growth! #tlap#leadlap
A4: I teach 9-10 year olds. I use a lot of imaginative situations like What if you a llama wearing pajamas knocked on our door? To serious situations like What if no one else wanted to be ...kind, President, a soldier, a chef etc. Creative juices flow. #tlap
A3: I think questioning doubtful thoughts and turning them around is incredibly powerful. @ByronKatie and her work have helped me so much with this! #tlap
Q5 Doubt sneaks in the Uppercut called Lack of Focus, & you're now seeing doubles.
How can we avoid the Uppercut that diminishes the time/energy we need to fulfill our purpose & say yes to those activities that will help us attain our ambitions...and no to the rest? #tlap
A4:what you say, Ss hear. What you spend time on is what u value, Ss hear that loud& clear. The inner critic emerges bc Ss have heard that all that matters is the grade & final product. The process is undervalued. We need to be overt in what we value! #tlap
A1: always important to have clear goals! I have a majority of at risk juniors and seniors this year. My goal is 100% graduation rate from my students, and at least 5 seniors to win some form of scholarship money! #tlap
A4. Doubt used to be fairly common on my menu, but with my @Milken family, the words of @PrincipalKafele, and my discovery of @burgessdave and the @dbc_inc crew, doubt doesn't really reside over here anymore. #tlap
A4: I sometimes use channel @BrianTracy and have the kids race to see who can come up with the MOST ideas (Tracy talks about sales people trying to get the most rejections). The key is to get kids okay with ideation and accepting that “bad” ideas are part of the process. #tlap
A1: My greatest ambition this year is for my class to be completely student led. I’m here to encourage and share tools to help them succeed. I’m helping to shape our future...in a positive way! #tlap
Q1 What great ambition are you hoping to attain this year?
Professionally and/or personally? Dream big, think big...then let's knockout everything in the way!! #tlap
A5: We do so much, but you are only one person. Something I've learned, is not to over book yourself. Know when to say No to something that eats your time because it can and yes to what you believe in #tlap
#tlap
A5: We do need to learn to say no, especially for first year or new teachers. It can be hard but we've got to make time for downtime, personal time etc.
a4 I give students who are genuinely frustrated a brain-break--get up, step away from the desk, and take a lap. Day-dream out the window for a few. Shadow-punch the hand-dryer. Make eye-contact in the bathroom mirror and remind yourself of why you're here. #tlap#leadlap
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
A5:
say yes to things that are going to help you attain your ambitions and say no to things that are distracting. Find a balance between things you want to do and things you need to do.
#tlap
A5 Another struggle of mine. Finding the balance in life. I use #BalanceLAP to constantly reflect. There are times, like now where I put my students, teaching, volunteer, family all before me & I take away my activities. Need to figure out the more than 5 hrs of sleep.
#tlap
A3: Allowing others to know that you are with them, no matter what, is a great equalizer for fear and doubt. We have to be bold and be willing to come alongside of colleagues and other learners to help them achieve higher levels of success. #tlap
Q3 Doubt is known for its Left Hook often referred to as Believing You Have to Figure It All Out Before You Begin.
In what ways do you block this brutal Left Hook and/or encourage your learners to take leaps of faith? #tlap
Commendable! I'm interested in your thinking and plans, Adam... Are there inroads you've already made, messages you've delivered, steps you plan to take? #tlap
Just happened upon your #tlap chat and couldn’t resist such great questions! I teach high school English in a rural Northern California town, and I’ve learned the best way to deal with my doubts is to connect with other teachers. #edchats have made me love teaching again
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!

#tlap
A5 This is probably where I struggle the most! I make sure I make time for the things that are most important...husband, daughter, etc...they give me the energy and motivation to keep going. #tlap
A1 This year I'm starting from scratch.. going to adapt a brand new curriculum to the needs of my students.. I've begun to question everything.. why do I do that? How can it become better? How can I reach different students? #tlap
A5: We can avoid innerdoubt by just talking about what positive choices look like, how to surround ourselves with positive & influential people, and by being the BIGGEST SUPPORTER for our Ss #TLAP
A5: these are all difficult! It’s hard to say no, but we have to learn to prioritize and only say yes to those things that help support our “whys” and personal values #tlap
A5: I’ve learned to use “no because,” when I say no to something. Helps others to understand my larger goals, and makes me feel less bad because it reinforces that I’m really saying YES to something bigger/more aligned with my goals. #tlap
Q5: As an admin, this is my greatest challenge. At times the paperwork, email overload, and the little things get in the way of engaging in the meaningful. #tlap
A5: be able to say no. Choose what’s actually important to you and don’t feel bad that you set priorities. I’ve found that women tend to struggle more with this than men. #tlap
A5: By focusing on what matters. We don't need to do it all. We need to do a few things very well. Zeroing in on those things, and discarding the rest so that we can have balance in our lives is the trick. #tlap
#TLAP A5. I finally had to rubric things. Is it good for the student? It is good for the staff? Is is good for the campus? Is it good for my family? Is it good for me? If I answer no to any in that order then it is a No.
A5: This one is hard! Focus on the goal... if it doesn't fit that goal do not stumble over it or pick it up! This can be really difficult for me but everyday I wake up and outloud remind myself of the goal & decide on 1-3 (or more) steps I will take toward the goal! #tlap
A4 The more I have on my plate, the easier it is to calm the perfectionism and JUST do what needs to be done.
But, I am a detiail girl! I love every single detail & won't settle for less than distinguished in perfromance. It's some sort of ridulous drive within. #tlap
A4: I heard a colleague @ebrennan97 tell her students "Practice makes permanent" I have used this statement so often in my room. It resonated with me. I'm not looking for perfection, I want you to give me your best and I want to help you grow. #TLAP
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
A4 | Releasing control helps me combat perfectionism. Instead of envisioning everything just so (&cringing when things don’t go the way I planned), i can simply think “I can’t wait to see how this unfolds”.
Rigidity invites perfectionism
#tlap
I’ll need an appt tomorrow... and the next day... and the next... lol! Been fighting the self-confidence battle for a long, long time. Love you lady!!! ♥️♥️ #tlap#Path2Serendipity
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
A4: Question the inner critic and the thoughts the critic is sending your way; turn those thoughts around. Embrace curiosity. Remember that you are enough. #tlap
A2: Try it with a few close people in your network- either @ your school or in your PLN & debrief afterwards! I’m at a place now where I laugh @ myself when I fail bc Ive realized we all do & it’s a huge part of my learning! #tlap
Q2 Doubt has a fierce Right Jab to the head called the Fear of Failure.
What's your go-to strategy to personally block that punch and/or encourage your learners to overcome their Fear of Failure? #tlap
A5 Do not get caught up in endless email or getting caught up in negative thoughts; spend time with like minded people who are positive and strive for excellence. We each choose our pathway.
#tlap
#tlap A5. Time management is a skill I am trying to get around...for both myself and my Ss. So umpteen times time schedule organisers are made for me and for them and some are followed, some need to be . Constant reminders and encouragement is the key so far .
A5 We need to set goals and keep a laser focus on filling our extra time (hahahahaha) only with those things that will help us to reach our goals. It is easy to be lead astray by things that will not serve our purpose. #tlap
A5: I often see the big picture and run with it. But there are times I have to be very purposeful in what needs focus. It’s a good balance I’m still working on with Ss. #tlap
A4: Flow! I love that word - FLOW! Positive Psych! Flow is finding that special moment when work is no longer work & time flies. 1. Know your Ss 2. Celebrate progress 3. Remind Ss of their successes 4. Remind Ss of their successes! 5. Remind Ss of their successes!! #tlap
A5 I think we have to take a deep breath always keep our “why” in mind and have that lead our decision making: “how is __ helping me fulfill my why?” And it it’s not then we need to learn to say no.
#tlap
A5: The best way I've found to maintain focus for the day is by getting my pre-work routine right.
Get good sleep, get a workout in, prep my food and snacks for the day. All of these go a long, long way in keeping me sharp.
#tlap
A5- for me it means setting priorities... before the hectic pace of the day starts...I set 1 goal in the following areas...work, home, health, personal growth.helps me to ensure I keep focus on what is important. . #tlap
A5: I design the whole class this way. I tell them what the main topics are that we have to cover, and then let them choose where we are going to spend more or less time. They own the class = More buy in. #tlap
A4 The more I have on my plate, the easier it is to calm the perfectionism and JUST do what needs to be done.
But, I am a detail girl! I love every single detail & never want to settle for less than distinguished in performance. It's some sort of ridiculous drive within. #tlap
A5 I have a lot of trouble with this one because I rarely say no. I'm trying to be more discerning on what I take on and my incredible new team at #iprep is showing me what its like to have people work and plan with you. I think relying on your team helps with overburden #tlap
A5: I've tried to scale way back to the bare essentials this year. I keep asking myself, is the is a good idea or a great idea? I can save the good ones for another day. #tlap
A5) When y’all come up with that answer let me know. I need some pointers. I have a vision for myself as an teacher leader-aspiring leader. If a task asked of me will help me grow I’m all in. If it helps the Ss & I’m passionate about it, I’m all in too. #tlap
A1 - My ambition is to allow every student to dream big each class. Let them come into a place where they feel safe, welcome, happy and vested in learning. Personally I’m finishing a book that I’d love to share with others. Here is back wall of my room. #tlap
A5 TOUGH questions tonight! Phew! Finding that balance between what fuels my fire and what has to get done is no easy task. I know it’s time to step back when my “fill me up” activities start draining me. Constantly adjusting sails is key. #tlap
A5: Watch inexperienced runners sprint at the very start of the race. They can not keep their pace. They will burn out. Some may even quit running. The same is true with teaching. Go slower, run your race, and finish strong. #tlap
A5: One of the biggest tricks we play on ourselves is to subconsciously stay so "busy" and over-scheduled that we don't have time to do the really BIG and SCARY things on our bucket list. #tlap As Covey says, "Big rocks first"
A5: (2) as @mrmatera would say, live intentionally. Prioritize those things that actually are meaningful to you and create rather than consume. Your living intentionally is different t than someone else’s. #tlap
A5: @JohnWoodenQuote has been influential in my life. Each morning I remind myself of my “Why.” I also have a focus of the day quote I read each morning. Finally, I have a running To-Do-List in OneNote. Each Monday...I review the week & determine my focus areas. #tlap
A2 I love to celebrate the baby steps, because even small growth is a step in the right direction.. by modeling this for my Ss, even I benefit from it and am more willing to take on what may seem impossible #tlap
A5 this is where the judo comes in: how do I take the uppercut's energy and turn it to my (my student's) advantage? This must be my weakness, so I must confront it #tlap#leadlap
This is a tough one because teaching as a job it comes at us with multiple urgent priorities all day long. Mindfulness has taught me to engage fully in the moment - especially when I’m with my students - much more fulfilling for everyone #tlap
#tlap
A5. Looking towards your passions! Building successes on those passions and areas supporting them, while treading through some things that aren't as important! #tlap
A5: Reading about “life-fit” in #Culturize by @casas_jimmy this summer was a game changer for me. It has helped me realize that there are times when things are not going to be balanced and to focus on what’s important in that moment. #tlap
A5: Our former instructional leader, the great @drmarcusnelson, used to tell us, “take care of yourselves, so that you can take care of our students.” Enjoy life and take time to do and enjoy the things you love. For me it’s about family and nature. Best way to relax. #tlap

How can we avoid the Uppercut that diminishes the time/energy we need to fulfill our purpose & say yes to those activities that will help us attain our ambitions...and no to the rest? #tlap
A5 When asked questions, especially about these types of things, take a moment to breathe and asses the question/opportunity based on your own values compass. Is this in line with your core beliefs? With your goals? #TLAP
A4 this is something I haven’t learned. It is good to reflect & improve BUT I over critical of my work! I can talk almost anyone back except myself. music transitions help change states. I use it to my advantage! Float On by Modest Mouse was my cleaning song! #tlap
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
A5 self care is key, we have to have balance in order to reach keep our focus sharp and maintain the relentless drive needed to bring our personal best everyday #tlap
A4: Reassurance and self talk are so important. This has to be modeled. Students have to see you experiencing it as well. They are going to question everything they think and do -- this is where culture is imperative for support. They have to feel safe. #tlap
Q6 Doubt throws the Fear of Criticism Cross Punch with intent to knock you OUT!
How do you encourage yourself (and/or your learners) to take a punch, bob and weave, and keep moving forward? #tlap
a5 I say to my students "if 'Life' is telling you not to try this thing, that is Life telling you to be average, to be ordinary. The flipside to that coin is 'doing this thing will make you extraordinary.' I think you should try to do this thing". #tlap#leadlap
A5: Our former instructional leader, the great @drmarcusnelson, used to tell us, “take care of yourselves, so that you can take care of our students.” Enjoy life and take time to do and enjoy the things you love. For me it’s about family and nature. Best way to relax. #tlap
A5 - I think this is where the value of the coaching process really comes into play - whether you’re a teacher or a student, regardless of your level of experience or expertise, everyone needs a coach. #tlap
A5:
Sometimes it’s as easy as closing the door and putting up a “do not disturb” sign to keep me focused and on the path, especiallywith only half of the planning this year. As dept. chair, I’m also learning to not over perform for my dept + delegate. Setting boundaries!
#tlap
A3
LET GO OF FEAR!
STAND AND FIGHT
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
"Fear is a formidable dragon. When that beast rears its ugly head and breathes the fires of doubt, trepidation, and timidity, instinct tells us to cower and run rather than stand and fight." -@burgessdave#TLAP#REALedu#EduGIFs
A5: Focus is the key for me. I always have to have the end in sight while knowing all the steps I have to take to reach it. I approach teaching the same way. Students need to know the learning intention and the success criteria to get there. It should NEVER be a secret. #tlap
A6: Remind myself & Ss of our end goal. I think goal setting is really important to keep motivated and have a light at the end of the tunnel. And after achieving, making NEW goals! #TLAP
Q6 Doubt throws the Fear of Criticism Cross Punch with intent to knock you OUT!
How do you encourage yourself (and/or your learners) to take a punch, bob and weave, and keep moving forward? #tlap
A5: If you need help on the saying no stuff...ask me to tell you about how Dark Sivers explains it next time we connect. It is amazing...although contains a cuss word. Trust me..his mindset helps! #tlap
A4 - 30 years in teaching helps me to always realize that perfection isn’t reality. I’m not looking for that. Rather, it’s the journey of helping students find their own excellence and passion for learning. If that happens, to me that a great way to celebrate a love of kids #tlap
A6: It's so important to be true to yourself. With all the new tools & strategies in your feed, it's easy to want to try them all. Got to listen to your inner coach and be true to yourself. #tlap
A5: We have to practice saying no and not feeling guilty. I’m SO bad at this... but, just like we want ss to practice when they’re not good at something... so do we! I’m getting better at it! Prioritizing is key! #tlap
A6: At the end of the day I remember that I’m here for the kids. No matter how hard a day or situation might be, it’s worth it because I adore kids and teaching! #tlap
Q6 Doubt throws the Fear of Criticism Cross Punch with intent to knock you OUT!
How do you encourage yourself (and/or your learners) to take a punch, bob and weave, and keep moving forward? #tlap
A3: If you have it all figured out then you aren't adapting to students needs. I have a general idea of where we're heading, but there are so many detours along the way. #tlap
A6: Showing what we create from what we fail at. Started bringing Ss successes to the classroom walls. Showing how they achieved through doubt and trial and error. #tlap
A6: I just go outside my comfort zone. I get my Ss to go outside their comfort zones in my lessons. I also believe that reflecting on my teaching helps a lot. #tlap
A5 Ugh, the uppercut. This one gets me every time. I'm starting to say no to things so I can focus on what is important.....but then again....squirrel! Time and focus (too much to focus on) can sometimes be my biggest opponent! #tlap
A6: My encouragement comes from my #PLN! Having your support and being inspired by these communities does more for my soul than you’ll ever know! That motivation in turn makes me better for those I serve. #tlap
thanks! nothing makes me happier than to hear a student say, "I'm bad at this". That means we're ready to learn something new and turn a "flaw" into a strength #tlap#leadlap
A6 You have to be intentional about teaching kids how to deal with rejection, hatred, mean spirited comments. You need to build them up & show them what resilience & persistence are. Never give up. Support each other to reach higher and dream big. We got this! Always. #tlap
Q6 Doubt throws the Fear of Criticism Cross Punch with intent to knock you OUT!
How do you encourage yourself (and/or your learners) to take a punch, bob and weave, and keep moving forward? #tlap
A5: allowing yourself to take a moment to walk away & breathe, regroup, then pull it together and remember what u are made of and who your kids deserve EVERY day. Do what is right because why bother if you don't. We all have 2 do the mundane so our focus can be on the real #TLAP
#tlap
A6 I always try to remember that no one has ever been truly successful without some failures. There are a million examples out there of folks who could take that punch, bob, weave and come out the other side. Those are our role models. #tlap
A6: We should always be striving to grow. So I encourage myself to land some punches on doubt by finding new ways to grow and reflect on how that growth has led to goal milestones. #tlap
A3 - Mantras for class
1. Do great work for you
2. Make the class your class
3. Come in the room smiling and leave the same way.
4. What is our positive word of the day.
5. Never let anyone dictate your own level of greatness. #tlap
A6 By being unrelentingly passionate about learning. It's contagious. I could be embarrassed by my Salem Witch Trials/Britney Spears "Toxic" video but where's the fun in that? #tlaphttps://t.co/0c6Cwx4qGr
Q6 I have to remind myself that criticism is not meant to hurt me personally. I have to consciously choose to use criticism as an opportunity for growth. I feel that it makes me stronger. #tlap
A1-Finally meet @burgessdave ha!1)Get outside of my community & try to “enroll” others in the conversations about learner-centered education! In hopes to shift their paradigm!2)stay true to who I am & stand up for what’s right for kids in the face of change! #tlap#PikeRoadWay
Q1 What great ambition are you hoping to attain this year?
Professionally and/or personally? Dream big, think big...then let's knockout everything in the way!! #tlap
#tlap
This is a hard one for me, but I think if we can show Ss that we as teachers and grown adults are also learning too, we also make mistakes, I think that'll greatly encourage them to do the same.
A5- This might sound weird, but I started sticking my random ideas on notes on Google Keep. Once or twice a day, I go back to the notes and delete the junk so I can focus on the best ideas. #tlap
A4
PERFECTIONISM...
ISN'T PERFECT!
👇✏️👇✏️👇✏️👇✏️👇
"I hope your lesson plan never goes the way you planned because if it does it means you didn't teach kids." -@alicekeeler#TLAP#DitchBook
I made my entire AP language class my accountability partners to reach my goal of writing poetry. Now they’re sending me reminders every night and making me read my poems to them every day in class. They don’t know the next challenge will be theirs. #tlap 😁
A6 This almost got me last year. #Tlap reaffirmed a lot for me and #REALedu has given me strategies/confidence to not only get up but bob and weave. Be REAL, Be YOU, You are Enough. PLN has been huge. #tlap
Q6 Doubt throws the Fear of Criticism Cross Punch with intent to knock you OUT!
How do you encourage yourself (and/or your learners) to take a punch, bob and weave, and keep moving forward? #tlap
A2: Mindset training has helped me overcome fear quite well. A practical approach to help my students overcome that fear is by giving them unlimited assignment attempts. Turn work in, try! Never fear the grade! The more they attempt, the more they improve! #tlap
A6 we have to model a relentless spirit of positivity and growth from our experiences. A never Say die spirit had to be displayed and it can be infectious if consistent and genuine. This come from building that grit we all talk about. You have to show it and love it #tlap
a6 this one's a bit more personal. I figure if I can overcome a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus, I can keep moving forward literally as well as figuratively #tlap#leadlap
A6 I have to remind myself that criticism is not meant to hurt me personally. I have to consciously choose to use criticism as an opportunity for growth. I feel that it makes me stronger. #tlap
A3 I encourage leaps of faith in Ss by communicating with parents.. when I celebrate the process, it shows both Ss and Ps that 'success is a journey, not a destination'. I find my Ss are so eager to please others they often forget to enjoy the ride #tlap
A6: I get my encouragement from a strong network of educator friends and coworkers. I also receive a ton of encouragment and inspiration from my PLN on Twitter. Twitter has been a game changer. #tlap
A6 along somewhat less personal lines, I compare myself as a first-year teacher to myself as a 19th year teacher and am astounded at how much I've grown--and how much of that growth is thanks to my students #tlap#leadlap#gratitude
Was just showing one of your videos to my class for the Civil War. I have like 10 of them bookmarked throughout the year, each year for us to watch. Thank you for taking a leap and creating an AMAZING product! #tlap
A5: Always come back to your why—your North Star. That helps me say YES to things that move me forward in my mission and NO to things that distract. https://t.co/u4aSQQEJz5#tlap
A6 yes!! This!! I was going to say follow your gut and listen to your heart! There is no one right way, there’s just YOUR way! Just get after it and keep trucking along! #tlap
A6| When criticism comes, I read it then set it aside. After a few days, I look at it again to find one truth I can take and learn from and I toss the rest in the trash
#tlap
A6: Some days are tougher than others. Some days just aren’t good. But there’s good in every day. I focus on the positive and what I learned from my mistakes, and I keep on going. #tlap
A6: Motivation is essential. Students have to feel it. It can't be artificial. It has to be fixed around the great lengths that they are taking to reach their goals. It must also be coupled with quality feedback. Give them the reassurance they need to keep going! #tlap
A6: Honestly I often need to phone a friend when I've been upper cut. I do the Bob and we've but if my feelings are hurt I benefit from a good talk it out session. #TLAP
Q6 Doubt throws the Fear of Criticism Cross Punch with intent to knock you OUT!
How do you encourage yourself (and/or your learners) to take a punch, bob and weave, and keep moving forward? #tlap
A5 I love @ThisIsSethsBlog 's work on Urgent vs. Important. One example is in this blog post. This is what it's all about - focus on 1) Urgent AND Important 2) Important NOT Urgent 3) Urgent. #TLAPhttps://t.co/xqIw5AyQlt
That's awesome! #tlap That makes me think, I need to share my coaching goals with the T's I work with so they know what I'm working toward. Transparency supports trust, right?
In #tlap there is a sidebar called, "Don't Let Critics Steal Your Soul" ...MUST reading for all pirates!! Includes the INCREDIBLE Teddy Roosevelt quote pictured below...nobody said it better. (And there are even soul stealers here on edu-Twitter!! Shameful!)
A6 Been focusing on growth mindset and failing forward. I try and talk about failure and growing as a person with Ss. We move forward. We fall down-We get back up.
"That's how winning is done!"-Rocky
#tlap
A5) With teaching, I aim to be all in. As a wife and mom, I am all in. Now as I become a student again, I am all in. My life is full, so I say "no" more often but if I look at all the "yes" I can take rest in that.
#tlap
A6: Pray. Count my blessings. Smile. Help others. Hug my daughter and son —-big bear hugs. When needed, pull a note/letter/video from my Sunshine Folder. #tlap
A6) I get real honest with my group when I’m thrown for a loop. I tell them I just have to be adaptable and go with the flow. It’s goid self talk for me, and it tends to make them more flexible too. #tlap#blockhead ⬇️ reference 🙃
Q7 Do you want to stand as the Champion over Doubt?
When in Doubt...Take Action!
What action steps will you commit to doing to conquer doubt and achieve your ambitions? #tlap
A6: I build it into my grading structure. As long as kids are willing to keep working towards mastery, they can earn back any (and all!) points they miss. Tenacity is the #1 predictor of future success (in all areas!) and we have a responsibility to foster it. #tlap
Q6 Doubt throws the Fear of Criticism Cross Punch with intent to knock you OUT!
How do you encourage yourself (and/or your learners) to take a punch, bob and weave, and keep moving forward? #tlap
A6 - Keep my eyes on the prize, seek encouragement, trust that any criticism is really meant with a positive intent for my personal improvement. But this is certainly not easy. #tlap
A5: I struggle with this too often, feeling like I need to be everywhere at all times, and saying "yes" to everyone. I need to be OK with taking time to myself, and being "off" occasionally in the evenings.
#tlap
I love that, Carolyn. Sometimes it’s hard to take in criticism when we feel attacked. Stepped back and letting it sit always helps me, too. And remembering that you can just take what you want from it is key! #tlap
A5. Schedule your time, work hard to organize and complete your work, but realize that you could work 24 hours a day and the scale might night tilt. #educationishard#tlap
A4- DO NOT LISTEN TO doubt or anyone who tries to get you off your game.Stay in the ring!Take a “time out” if needed, but just long enough to regroup! Rally your support system when you need encouragement! YOUR PLN IS HERE! If I’m not “in your corner” already- ADD ME NOW! #tlap
Q4 You're still in the fight, and we are crushing tonight!
But, Doubt just threw a gut punch of Perfectionism! BAM!
In what ways do you kill the inner critic that's trying to knock the wind out of your (or your students) creative flow? #tlap
A5 - Thus for me is the hardest question. I want to do everything for everyone. I’ve realized that my time isn’t infinite. Family first, students second, other stuff follows. Also keeping a journal has been a lifesaver. #tlap
It's all about perspective. At any given moment, based on what is in front of me, feelings may say SUCCESS or "oh, not again..." but keeping the long game in mind, and seeing success over time, is the key. #TLAP#ALPLEARN
A6: I love this question! Creating and fostering a classroom where students feel safe to fail. Build relationships, ask questions, share some of your own “mess-ups”... Show them it’s okay... failing is part of the learning process! @burgessdave#tlap
Shameful!)
The question was posed in a #TLAP book study: If you’re students didn’t have to be there, who would you be teaching to. I posed the question to them. The results filled my heart. I’m keeping their answers near me to remind me...
A6: this is something I’m working on with my student teachers. It’s important to remember that every day is an experiment. Just because something doesn’t work in the classroom, doesn’t mean you’re a failure. #tlap
Honesty. Share your failures and struggles as a teacher. Nothing keeps you going like knowing the person you look up to has tough days too. #TLAP#ALPLEARN And yes, kids look up to us! :)
A5 In Be REAL, I talk about the heart healthy salt -- the "whats" that you do that season the world with your "WHY"
I like to use this filter--
Are my "whats" helping me fulfill your purpose--your WHY?
If not, then those "whats" are yucky (seasoning) and need to go.🥊💥
#tlap
A6 I can't lie, criticism effects me, even though I try to let it go. I focus on what's right for me, what pushes me, what I enjoy doing, and most of the time, that is enough. #tlap
What other people think of you is none of your business. Easy to remember but hard to live by. We tend to be "people pleasers" in the world of education but most of the folks taking jabs are taking them from the sidelines while we're in the game. #tlap

Craig from PA. Sorry I missed tonight. Family first.
Teaching isn’t very complicated. Find a job you love, students who you cherish and content that inspires you. The rest usually follows just fine. Kids love teachers who love them. #tlap
A7: MINDFULNESS. Being mindful & aware of when these feelings start to creep up, and then stopping them before they overtake. SO difficult, but SO NEEDED. #Mindfulness#TLAP#LearnLAP

A5: Okay. Well um. I'm a big believer in breaks. I need them, why wouldn't my Ss?! I write H2O fountain passes. It's an easy way to meet in the hall, listen to/validate trials, build Ss up, gift Ss a 2 minute reset, meet again for a high five & put Ss back to work. #tlap

A7: Willingness to accept failure, to admit to failure, and to learn and grow from failure. I have learned that the greatest lessons come from the greatest failures. Spending a lifetime trying to be perfect will only result in disappointment. Welcome failure at every turn. #tlap
A7: I commit to batching my blog/speaking/content work to maximize productivity and limit the amount of times I can procrastinate! Then, to practicing the five second rule to propel myself towards action. Mantra will be “done is better than perfect.” #tlap

sorry, y'all--gotta put various family members to bed. thanks for a great chat--my tweetdeck could barely keep up with the wonderful responses! #tlap#leadlap
A4 I've never done this w/ Ss, but when I played D1 in college my coach had us write down some thoughts that held us back.. them we burned them - it was a nice reminder that fears only have power over is if we let them.. I think MS Ss would like this #tlap
A7: Blog more, 2 x's a month instead of 1x. Write out my coaching goals and share. Create my PD calendar for Google Trainings. #tlap I have a few hurricane days to work on these too. ;)

A7 Being REAL, cannonballing in, seeking out that support and supporting others when needed. Keeping that positive mindset and vibrating higher. Doing my best and believing what is meant to be will be! #tlap

A7: Doing all I can to eliminate self-doubt. Taking a step back and remembering what the end looks like puts everything back in perspective for me. Remain active in my PLN even when I’m having a bad day. Boosting others gives me a boost in turn! Crazy how that works! #tlap
A7 I will commit to seeking the help of others when I feel overwhelmed. Often, my mistake is trying to do it all, when I know that others are right there ready to jump in when needed. #tlap
A7: Seek out more opportunities to be able to go our and take steps toward accomplishing my goals. Continue to learn from those who are currently doing what I desire to do. Believe that it IS possible! #tlap
A7 make lists, in order of priority. Let go of things that aren’t helpful or meaningful to you in some way. And by the way, doing things for yourself goes a long way... make that time! You’re worth it. And you’ll be better for it! #tlap

A6: There will ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS be someone criticizing what you do. No matter what you're doing or how good you are at it.
No sense in fearing the inevitable. Keep your head up, learn from the mistakes that you're guaranteed to make, and keep moving forward. #TLAP
Q6 Doubt throws the Fear of Criticism Cross Punch with intent to knock you OUT!
How do you encourage yourself (and/or your learners) to take a punch, bob and weave, and keep moving forward? #tlap
A7: I focus on my Ss. They’re my reason for everything I do. They never doubt my ability. I wish I could see myself through their eyes when self-doubt shows up. #tlap
A6: This is why it is essential to reflect. When we dial back and view our practices, long range, we will see so many victories and the impact we have had, in the midst of our defeat. From here, take note, and don't lose hope -- "You are destined for greatness." #tlap

A7 I'm taking steps to celebrate my classroom, students and everything that is done in and around my room. Setting up this culture of success wells any doubts. #tlap
A7 Taking daily inventory; keeping track of where I've been vs. where I'm going; not comparing my journey to someone else's; taking ownership of failures; learning from my mistakes; never giving up; never giving in #tlap
A7: Keep pushing myself to do scary things (public speaking, inviting people into my room 😳) and talking to my PLN when I get nervous about it all #tlap
Q7: I need to be intentional in guiding all my actions toward my “Why” while being mindful of both my professional as well as my personal well-being. #tlap
A7: One of my all time favorite learning leaders said: “How do you review, refine, and reflect each day?” It is so important to be mindful. Recognize when the monster called Doubt is creeping in. Reframe. Keep going with Kisses of Sunshine for he Soul. #tlap
We all should! If T's have goals, I want them to know what I'm working toward too. #tlap#leadlap We should all support each other. :) We're on the same team after all!
A3: bold assignments show them that each opportunity either reaches their goal or leads them closer to it. From freshmen to seniors, I have them enter writing, drawing, video-editing contests and scholarships. I play to their strengths and make them submit their work! #tlap
A3IF any of us had it “figured out”we wouldn’t need to be life-long learners! This thing we call “education”SHOULD be so similar to life that we realize it’s all about the journey¬ about finishing the fight & winning the A,but rather what you’ve learned along the journey! #tlap
Q3 Doubt is known for its Left Hook often referred to as Believing You Have to Figure It All Out Before You Begin.
In what ways do you block this brutal Left Hook and/or encourage your learners to take leaps of faith? #tlap
A7 from this fantabulous reminder chat tonight - I’ll knock out fear and doubt, and stay in the ring ... swinging till the end!! I’ll be the champion for the kids... and fight for them. Loved tonight’s chat!! Thanks for the awesome conversation, PLN‼️🥊#tlap
A7: I will seek to expand my community of teachers and continue to discuss and collaborate with them. Everyone has doubts from time to time; connecting with others reminds us we’re not alone #tlap
Friends, I'd be honored to have you join me this Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. CST as I host my first Twitter chat for @daveschmittou 's #LastingLearning#tlap
Come join in as we reflect and grow!
I listened to a great Truth for Teachers podcast episode about this. I had never realized (what?!) that I would NEVER be able to fully check off my to do list - it gave me so much peace when I started prioritizing and being okay with being done - for now - even when I wasn’t DONE
A5 - I'm learning the benefit of asking for help - ex: today I was laboring over inputs for S username/passwords for the online book (taking hrs). Then I realized the T from last year had the same spreadsheet, so I asked & she was more than happy to share, just took asking #tlap
A6: Keeping a curious, growth mindset really helps. Remembering that things aren't all or nothing extremes—there's beauty and power living in that middle area where we try things out, sometimes fall, try again (and again!), and often soar. #tlap
Thanks for an awesome chat #tlap - I always enjoy learning & reflecting with yall! My fellow east coast friends - stay safe with Florence on her way! Hugs and prayers for all! It’s going to be a rough one.
A7
