Welcome friends. So grateful to have Kimberly Davis as our Guest Host toinght on #G2Great - and so grateful for each of you. My view in Honolulu as I chat tonight.( Excuse the shaky wifi and slow start - back on
A1: To me, brave leadership is making your own learning visible and taking a risk to put yourself out there for the sake of both teacher and student learning. #g2great
Roman from Ontario, Canada. HS Teacher/Student Success Leader/Agent of Transformation. Great to be with friends at #g2great chat tonight to talk about #brave
A1 I see Brave Leadership as an unwavering commitment to hold tight to our values & use them as a beacon of light to pave a positive path for self/others. #G2Great
A1: I am a teacher and educational leader...and a mother. Brave leadership requires me to be vulnerable and listen, among other things. Oh, and sometimes deep breathing is needed in order to get through those uncomfortable times. TY @OnStageKimberly#G2Great#LitBankStreet
A1: To take responsibility to be and bring my best, most authentic, and powerful self to every situation I face so people WANT to be a part of what I'm up to, WANT to engage fully, to listen, and to give their best. #BraveLeadership#G2Great
A1: #BraveLeadership for a literacy consultant is
1) Asking the hard questions
2) Honest answers
3) No easy quick fixes
4) Knowledge & research &
5) Having the support of folks who can bail me out when I'm out on the ledge!
#G2Great
A1- For me, it's standing up for kids; it's being willing to voice an unpopular opinion and challenge the status quo. It's leading by example- with passion and compassion #g2great
A1 I couldn't be a Literacy Coach without being brave. I'm always leading and learning without shame or fear. It's not easy, but it's the challenge that keeps me coming back. #g2Great
A1 #BraveLeadership is demonstrated by someone who is "their best, most powerful, authentic self" & are leaders who people *want* to follow, not have to follow. @OnStageKimberly#g2great
A1 Brave leadership is about doing the right thing even when it is not easy. It is about giving a voice to those who need it. It is about putting kids first and not being afraid to battle the status quo when things aren't right. Be loud, even when standing alone. #g2great
A1 Brave Leadership is the ability to do everything you can to put students first. Even when it's not popular, scary, new, different. We have to do what's right by kids at all costs. Its' okay to be afraid #g2great
A1. In my personal life I would define brave leadership as taking charge when unexpected things happen or could happen. My husband is a police officer, so I think personally brave leadership to me is everyday when he is at working putting on a brave face. @kisdlit#G2Great
Saying hello to #G2Great friends. Carol ELA Consultant here from Long Island where we had a snow dusting here this week. I may have to say goodnight early because I have sinusitis and the meds are making me exhausted.

A1 I believe that we all hold Brave Leadership in our hands. We choose whether we want to bring that spirit to life or suck the very life out of it. #G2Great
A1 Identifying where you want/need to go and being intentional in taking the steps to get there. Knowing and staying true to your principles and beliefs. #g2great

A1: Brave Leadership is being grounded in your beliefs and allowing them to guide your daily moves and interactions in the world. In your personal and professional life. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A1: As a student teacher, brave leadership can sometimes be making recommendations about books, students, ideas, diversity, despite a set curriculum - and teachers you love! #G2great
A1 I don't see BRAVE as a solitary path. It IS brave to seek support of others who can gently nudge us forward of we falter or need a sounding board. #G2Great
A1 #BraveLeadership happens when leaders focus on achieving purpose outside of themselves. They continually ask: Did I make the impact I wanted to? If I didn't, how do I grow myself to be more effective? @OnStageKimberly#G2Great
Q1 Brave Leadership is more than just being a leader. It is standing up for, putting yourself on the line and supporting those who you are leading. #G2GREAT#kellerliteracy
A1 I see Brave Leadership as an unwavering commitment to hold tight to our values & use them as a beacon of light to pave a positive path for self/others. #G2Great
A1: Brave leadership challenges constructs that have grown to be accepted and haven’t been held up to the light for reconsideration in quite some time. #G2Great

I don’t think that we can underestimate what’s happening right here on #g2great A big part of our success as brave leaders is joyful camaraderie and the connections we make through shared committed dialgoue
I don’t think that we can underestimate what’s happening right here on #g2great A big part of our success as brave leaders is joyful camaraderie and the connections we make through shared committed dialgoue
A1: Building relationships with amazing teachers and setting an example by having a love of learning and growth mindset #braveleadership#g2great#kellerliteracy
A1 I couldn't be a Literacy Coach without being brave. I'm always leading and learning without shame or fear. It's not easy, but it's the challenge that keeps me coming back. #g2Great
A2 We must look inside ourselves & determine what drives us to achieve purpose *outside ourselves* & then commit to authentic actions that bring this to life. #BraveLeadership#g2great
A1 #BraveLeadership is demonstrated by someone who is "their best, most powerful, authentic self" & are leaders who people *want* to follow, not have to follow. @OnStageKimberly#g2great
I can’t even imagine success without those things. Leadership assuming that we are leaders who are intentionally supporting those things that really have a positive impact on our teaching and our students’ learning. No shortcuts here Lori! #g2great
A2: Power to make constructive choices = inventorying our beliefs and values, matching those to our actions and holding ourselves accountable. #BraveLeadership#G2Great
A2: By taking responsibility for our choices, choosing boldly, and recognizing and celebrating the bravery of those around us when we see it. By being and lifting up the #DifferenceMakers#BraveLeadership#G2Great
A2: What is clear is that leadership doesn't come from a title...people need to want to follow you says @OnStageKimberly so your powerful choices determine if people will follow you. Up to each one of us. Important choices! #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A1: As a student teacher, brave leadership can sometimes be making recommendations about books, students, ideas, diversity, despite a set curriculum - and teachers you love! #G2great
It's seldom easy to be brave. Sometimes bravery is intertwined with kindness. Sometimes it is intertwined with social pressure. Bravery is complicated but it is the path to becoming I think. #G2Great
We will totally save you a glass of wine Kitty! The dear management just gave us a second bottle on the house. We come here a lot! #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A1 #BraveLeadership is demonstrated by someone who is "their best, most powerful, authentic self" & are leaders who people *want* to follow, not have to follow. @OnStageKimberly#g2great
A2 We have to realize that when Ts do things we don't agree with, to them it was a good idea at some point. We can choose to be critical or choose to be a leader and guide them. #g2great
A2: By taking responsibility for our choices, choosing boldly, and recognizing and celebrating the bravery of those around us when we see it. By being and lifting up the #DifferenceMakers#BraveLeadership#G2Great
A2: I think by using our voice and owning our decisions. By taking responsibility for our learning we can help others do the same. Leading by example is for my powerful than leading by "I said so" #G2Great
A1 Brave leadership is about doing the right thing even when it is not easy. It is about giving a voice to those who need it. It is about putting kids first and not being afraid to battle the status quo when things aren't right. Be loud, even when standing alone. #g2great
Yes. The solitary leader swimming upstream has become such a romanticized view in certain work cultures and contexts that reaching for interdependence can be an act of bravery. #G2Great
A1 I don't see BRAVE as a solitary path. It IS brave to seek support of others who can gently nudge us forward of we falter or need a sounding board. #G2Great
A2: To risk is to be bold. Wisdom is to know when to admit a mistake. Support those who take a risk. Celebrate their success and encourage them when they fall. #g2great

"A simple phrase like 'I noticed' can make a #leader braver." So true @MargaretGSimon Time. Care. Appreciation. It can be just an instant but the impact... wow! #G2Great
I think that we have to give ourselves the same kinds we so readily offer others. The bravest people I know see it in others but can’t seem to see it in themselves We have to hold up a BRAVE mirror and see who we really are! #g2great
A2: Always start with the your "why". I teach to help grow competent, caring Ss so I als myself, does this help reach that goal? The answer makes the next steps clear. #G2Great
#g2great A2 Vulnerability as a leader is uncomfortable at times as we often feel as though we should be the expert with the expectation that we know the “right” way but humility has a way of paving a greater path others are more willing to follow
A2 We need to celebrate every impact we have on anything we do. When we keep kids at the forefront we need to own everything we do. We need to not be afraid of learning and doing what is best. #g2great
A1 I don't see BRAVE as a solitary path. It IS brave to seek support of others who can gently nudge us forward of we falter or need a sounding board. #G2Great
Absolutely, and it's not easy. Even when we agree. We are all rising at various points but together we are the wave that sweeps across the ocean. This is @OnStageKimberly Brave Leadership thinking happening right now. #G2Great
Oh yes please let’s do this!! If we don’t know WHY we do what we do then we will be forced to blindly maneuver our way in perpetual darkness. I’ve never seen that work as a success strategy! #g2great
A2: Always start with the your "why". I teach to help grow competent, caring Ss so I als myself, does this help reach that goal? The answer makes the next steps clear. #G2Great
I don’t think that we can underestimate what’s happening right here on #g2great A big part of our success as brave leaders is joyful camaraderie and the connections we make through shared committed dialgoue
A3: Stop making schools be a place of compliance, quiet classrooms, & rote answers. HONOR Curiosity, open-ended questions, and Ss who progress at different rates!
#RaiseTheirVoices#g2great
Yes definitely but I think we need to create a culture where we know we can ask for help. I’ve seen some schools where there’s not much invitational brave anywhere to be seen #g2great
A1 I don't see BRAVE as a solitary path. It IS brave to seek support of others who can gently nudge us forward of we falter or need a sounding board. #G2Great
Ok, this is tooo funny! I signed in on Kara's computer for our class and she's been tweeting from my account this whole time! I am so excited b/c she is so smart and such a good writer! #G2Great#LitBankStreet
#G2Great A3: Creative genius is disappearing due to test driven instruction. No time for creativity. This trend will be a detriment for future problem solvers.
A3 We have much to do to counteract disappearing genius in schools. We can't rely on one-size-fits-all package and expect this sad reality to dissipate. #G2Great
A3: Direct Instruction has a place but that place has become too big in our classrooms—Hattie’s research shows that deep learning is better found in conversations. #g2great
I worry that the current resurfaced CRAZE (as i crazy craze) of basals is reducing that sense of celebratory reflection. WAY too much mindless doing and not nearly enough reflective decision making #g2great
A3. We could avoid this “disappearing genius” by making sure we are really fostering a creative atmosphere in the classroom when they are younger. I think sometime in school we forget that they are just kids and they do need time to play be creative and explore. @kisdlit#g2great
A3: Give students Voice and Choice and then Listen Listen Listen. Children learn to hide their brilliance in the mass of boring. We must be Brave to let them see that BRAVE is better than boring. #curiositycrew#g2great
This is absolutely true, @DrMaryHoward The brave educators here that join #g2great chat each week inspire me, challenge me and give hope in our sometimes difficult profession.
A3: Identifying and celebrating natural talents, allowing children to be and express their true selves, and modeling the power of authenticity can unleash the greatness in every student. #BraveLeadership#G2Great
A1 Brave leadership is about doing the right thing even when it is not easy. It is about giving a voice to those who need it. It is about putting kids first and not being afraid to battle the status quo when things aren't right. Be loud, even when standing alone. #g2great
A3- By valuing spirit and spunk, joy and energy- by giving space and time for students to show us their light- by understanding that schools have done a disservice to students for too long #g2great
#g2great@franmcveigh I agree Fran! We are “mad scientists” on Fridays in my classroom inventing with Makerspace- all kinds of STEAM activities and creative “chaos” I LOVE IT!!!
A3: Stop making schools be a place of compliance, quiet classrooms, & rote answers. HONOR Curiosity, open-ended questions, and Ss who progress at different rates!
#RaiseTheirVoices#g2great
A2: Brave Leadership personally means taking what I'm learning outside school and bringing it to my teams within the school. I sure hope to make an impact! #g2great
A3: Identifying and celebrating natural talents, allowing children to be and express their true selves, and modeling the power of authenticity can unleash the greatness in every student. #BraveLeadership#G2Great
A3 We need a complete transformation of education. Education should guide students using their strengths to discover their passions and interests. This is how we build creativity and genius. #g2great
"A simple phrase like 'I noticed' can make a #leader braver." So true @MargaretGSimon Time. Care. Appreciation. It can be just an instant but the impact... wow! #G2Great
So many schools where teachers cannot be vulnerable and fear making mistakes. We need #BRAVE leaders who help their staff be able to ask for help and take risks. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
#G2Great
Agreed. Many facets to this. Overbearing standardized tests, seeking THE (right) answer in class, worksheet worksheet worksheet etc have likely all contributed to this (among other things) #g2great
A3: Focus on growth and learning within student choice. @SirKenRobinson says We lose the ability to ask why and wonder once we’ve been “educated.” Ask students what they want to learn. #g2great
That’s such beautiful wording Letha. I love that! Yes we have long way to go but we can no longer continue business as usual that happens is too many schools #g2great
A3- By valuing spirit and spunk, joy and energy- by giving space and time for students to show us their light- by understanding that schools have done a disservice to students for too long #g2great
#g2great@kisdlit A3: I feel that the "disappearing genius" can be recovered by allowing students to reconnect with their inner child to tap into their creativity.
A3. (Susan from Cincinnati, jumping in late!) We need to get rid of crappy high-stakes tests in order allow teachers to teach creatively. It will take some brave legislators, teachers, and admin to keep speaking up #g2great
I think that we have to give ourselves the same kinds we so readily offer others. The bravest people I know see it in others but can’t seem to see it in themselves We have to hold up a BRAVE mirror and see who we really are! #g2great
A:3 We listen to our students and find ways everyday to make their voice our voice. They can help us make their education more relevant, more important, and more fun! #agency#g2great
A3b: How can we ask our students to explore the world around them if we do not celebrate those explorations? Students learn early what is valuable by what their teachers celebrate. Creative Genius, Curiosity, Inquisitive nature. Call it what you want just celebrate it #G2great
A3: Give students Voice and Choice and then Listen Listen Listen. Children learn to hide their brilliance in the mass of boring. We must be Brave to let them see that BRAVE is better than boring. #curiositycrew#g2great
A3: Stop getting stuck at teaching surface level learning! It is when we work on deep learning, application and transfer that creativity gets its chance to shine but all too often Ts and Ss don't go there. #G2Great
A3 We need a complete transformation of education. Education should guide students using their strengths to discover their passions and interests. This is how we build creativity and genius. #g2great
A3: I asked students, “What topics are trending in their lives?” as a way to give choice and raise voice. Then paired their trending topics with YA Lit. They had awesome ideas! #g2great
A2: Always start with the your "why". I teach to help grow competent, caring Ss so I als myself, does this help reach that goal? The answer makes the next steps clear. #G2Great
A3: Our focus needs to be on teaching thinking and providing ample opportunities to practice thinking through discussion and writing activities. #g2great
A3- By valuing spirit and spunk, joy and energy- by giving space and time for students to show us their light- by understanding that schools have done a disservice to students for too long #g2great
Absolutely John! Not only is there disappearing genius but our ability o see the genius that is just beneath the surface is disappearing because fo those things. It’s as if we are wearing Genius blinders #g2great
Agreed. Many facets to this. Overbearing standardized tests, seeking THE (right) answer in class, worksheet worksheet worksheet etc have likely all contributed to this (among other things) #g2great
Q3 We have gotten so used to handeling things for kids that they no longer have the desire to solve their own problems, appropriately voice their thoughts or just be themselves. We need to take a step back and let them be. #G2GREAT#kellerliteracy

#g2great
#g2great A3 we must recognize we are better together, that every voice is worthy of being heard, every person has something to contribute; when we declare one right answer, when we stop listening, we miss the rainbow for the clouds
A4: Super Obj. = To provide the information and practice to empower Ts to increase Ss love of Rdg & Wrtg as well as their confidence in their own ability JOYFULLY!
(NOT pass test/raise levels)
#G2Great
A3 Genius cannot flourish when adults in the system promote being "right" as the ultimate goal. Genius thrives on trying and failing, trying again; pursuing what others say cannot be done and succeeding. #g2great
A4 I am still contemplating my #SuperObjective. It must be anchored in my soul, living in my actions, & directly connected to the impact I want to have. Currently thinking around authentic connections w/everyone I come in contact with #G2Great
#G2Great A4: My Super Objective is to inspire students, teachers, parents, writers to rise up, be creative, and do good for our community and the world. Is that too Super?
A4 A Super Objective I hold near & dear is to inspire educators to find THEIR professional Super Objective that may be dormant or just out of view. #G2Great
Absolutely, and it's not easy. Even when we agree. We are all rising at various points but together we are the wave that sweeps across the ocean. This is @OnStageKimberly Brave Leadership thinking happening right now. #G2Great
You know what I was just thinking as I’m watching the dedicated brilliance flashing across my screen: wouldn’t’ it be awesome if we could bottle up our #g2great passion and sprinkle it in every school?
My teachers, @suzrolander and @pranikoff, encouraged us to "have a vision" at the beginning of the semester. I am observing and learning from all the teachers around me as I consider what my "super objective" will be. a work in progress! #g2great
A2: Always start with the your "why". I teach to help grow competent, caring Ss so I als myself, does this help reach that goal? The answer makes the next steps clear. #G2Great

A4 My Super Objective is to transform education and make learning an extraordinary opportunity for kids to discover their super powers. Kids need to feel the passion, the excitement for learning. #g2great
A4: My Super Objective is to CONNECT people to the best of who they are! (thank you, #G2Great for giving me such a wonderful opportunity to do that tonight!) #BraveLeadership
My teachers, @suzrolander and @pranikoff, encouraged us to "have a vision" at the beginning of the semester. I am observing and learning from all the teachers around me as I consider what my "super objective" will be. a work in progress! #g2great
A4: I believe my "super objective" is to connect people to other people or books in order to help them reach their potential....to help them grow. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A4 I adore Ts but worry that many reside in school systems that thwart them from finding & nurturing their Super Objective. I find it heartbreaking. #G2Great
I think this is the key to most of our problems. We know what good teaching is .....but the tests bind teachers and children. Worry about “the test” dominates everything #g2great
A4: I want my students and coworkers to find their voice and the courage to use it. We are all so much more powerful when guided by our needs rather than others demands. #G2great
A4: I believe my "super objective" is to connect people to other people or books in order to help them reach their potential....to help them grow. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A4 I am still contemplating my #SuperObjective. It must be anchored in my soul, living in my actions, & directly connected to the impact I want to have. Currently thinking around authentic connections w/everyone I come in contact with #G2Great
A4: To help my colleagues look beyond the walls of their classroom, building, or district for career growth. I want to see those I work with strive to read, write, risk, and share. #g2great
A4: My Super Objective is to foster teachers entering the field and staying in the field. The work we do is . important and we can't do it alone. We need community and support and we need to do it together. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A4: My Super Objective is to always see my students as people first. Are they happy, safe, loved? Then I work my tail off to help them be literate and thinking citizens. #G2Great

.@RuthLongobardi we hope that our class will help to refine your vision. We need to teach from our beliefs and be guided by what we know is most important. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
My teachers, @suzrolander and @pranikoff, encouraged us to "have a vision" at the beginning of the semester. I am observing and learning from all the teachers around me as I consider what my "super objective" will be. a work in progress! #g2great
A4 My Super Objective is to be the best human and educator I can possibly be. I'm a work in progress but love I have loved this lengthy journey! #G2Great
#G2Great A4: My Super Objective is to inspire students, teachers, parents, writers to rise up, be creative, and do good for our community and the world. Is that too Super?
That's why change has to come from the building or district level. Many school systems drive the passion right out of teachers. In the end, everyone suffers. But our kids suffer the most. #g2great

A5: Barriers = self-doubt, confidence in own knowledge and skills.
Overcome by ALWAYS learning. Reading, Writing, Listening,
More PD.
Always!

You are one of the most super objective miners I know. Do you ever stop and reflect on how many educators you touch? Brilliant @DrMaryHoward You are such a gift! #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A4 A Super Objective I hold near & dear is to inspire educators to find THEIR professional Super Objective that may be dormant or just out of view. #G2Great
#G2Great A5: My barrier is my intolerance for practices that are not in the best interest of our children. (This could be followed by a rant about computer programs that limit creativity and stifle children.)
A5 Definitely confidence. I'm not proud to say that I sometimes allow it to rear its ugly head and find it hard to release the grip that is holding me back. #G2Great
#G2Great A4: My Super Objective is to inspire students, teachers, parents, writers to rise up, be creative, and do good for our community and the world. Is that too Super?
A3 Avoid disappearing genius in schools by increasing curiosity episodes-let students explore & discover through questioning. Cultivate cultures of inquiry where Choice leads to amplified Voice. #G2Great

Sorry I'm a little "Off" for a few minutes while I watch the weather update and school closing lists. Forecast 10-14 inches over the weekend! Arg! #g2great
A4 A Super Objective I hold near & dear is to inspire educators to find THEIR professional Super Objective that may be dormant or just out of view. #G2Great
A5: My self-doubts and the comparison-game are my biggest barriers to #brave - but by focusing on impact outside myself, instead of my fears and self-defeating thoughts, I'm able to cut through those obstacles and unleash my more powerful self. #BraveLeadership#G2Great
A5. I think one of the biggest berries that stand in my was is my dyslexia. I always worry when I am writing thing did I spell that write, and if not did someone see. Sometimes though it is a positive thing because it helps me bond with some of my students. @kisdlit#g2great
Send this to every school and read it often. Yes we are pushing our best teachers right out of schools and losing some of our brightest lights - and we all lose, but especially kids #g2great
That's why change has to come from the building or district level. Many school systems drive the passion right out of teachers. In the end, everyone suffers. But our kids suffer the most. #g2great
A5: Not focusing on my super objective...what I want to give, can make me nervous. When I focus on how I'm feeling and not on what my purpose is, I can feel like there is a barrier. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A5 The best way I know to move past my own barriers is to surround myself with a personal posse of positive. There are so many good people in this world! #G2Great
A4: My Super Objective is to foster teachers entering the field and staying in the field. The work we do is . important and we can't do it alone. We need community and support and we need to do it together. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
Totally agree!!! Something I feel parents need to be told and trained on their role in teaching their children how to problem solve. It’s easier to do for our children than to train them and follow through on how to do things on their own.#G2great
My new book, Burned Out, Beaten Up, & Fighting Back: A Call to Action for America's Public Educators is now available for pre-order on Kindle: https://t.co/MQQeH7Xrfz. You can learn more about the book here: #leadershipwithlatoya
A5 There's always someone that will be negative, that will say it can't be done. I drown out the negativity by concentrating on my WHY, nothing is more powerful than that. #g2great
A5: A few years of being pushed down and devalued. My current mindset and other changes have helped me as has the support of the #curiositycrew and @DrMaryHoward continued support. All it takes is a little light to see in the dark and I have lots of lights right now. #G2Great
A5 A barrier I struggle with is cultivating a genuine connection in every encounter I have. Authentic relationships are the key to unlocking potential in those we lead. #BraveLeadership#G2Great
A4: My Super Objective is to foster teachers entering the field and staying in the field. The work we do is . important and we can't do it alone. We need community and support and we need to do it together. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A5- I can often get caught in a pattern of 'what went wrong today' instead of 'what was great'- now I make a point of connecting with some colleagues after school to share some positive stories- we always end up laughing and end the day looking forward to the next #g2great
Q4 I want my students to enjoy learning more than they did before entering my class. I also want to have an impact of parents. My interactions with them affects how they view school and inturn how their child views school. #G2GREAT#kellerliteracy
A5 I love the old joke, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." I think barriers are much like an enormous elephant. One bite at a time! #G2Great
A5. My barrier is my own laziness and inertia. Creating rituals for myself helps me be less of a a slug. Having a community (#PoetryFriday... see us tomorrow!) is a gift. #g2great
Oh @OnStageKimberly you just made my night. I talked, earlier, about my Super Objective with @suzrolander and she helped me revise. I'm excited to be driven by clarity. Thank you for that gift. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A4: My Super Objective is to foster teachers entering the field and staying in the field. The work we do is . important and we can't do it alone. We need community and support and we need to do it together. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A5: For me, it's "downtown" or state mandates of cruddy things that don't promote true, joyful learning. Test prep and computer programs designed to "click" the fun right out of the joyful classroom. Move past by taking every second we can to instill LOVE of learning. #g2great
A5- I can often get caught in a pattern of 'what went wrong today' instead of 'what was great'- now I make a point of connecting with some colleagues after school to share some positive stories- we always end up laughing and end the day looking forward to the next #g2great
A5: I’ll break through my barriers by building my tool kit of knowledge, focusing on the positive, and learning from the amazing educators that surround me everyday #kellerliteracy#g2great
If we focus on that @OnStageKimberly we don't have to worry about how the crowd views us...we are following what our superobjective is! #G2Great#LitBankStreet
A5: This year I offered myself in three leadership roles: Dept Head, SIT member, and Curriculum committee member. Positions I held in the past. I was denied them all. So I decided to look for opportunities to write, build bridges with colleges, join #TeachWrite, and #G2Great
A5: Sometimes I forget the strength we have together and feel like I need to do it all by myself. Then I remember I am not alone. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
#G2Great
Sorry I'm a little "Off" for a few minutes while I watch the weather update and school closing lists. Forecast 10-14 inches over the weekend! Arg! #g2great
A4 My Super Objective is to be the best human and educator I can possibly be. I'm a work in progress but love I have loved this lengthy journey! #G2Great
A5 Definitely confidence. I'm not proud to say that I sometimes allow it to rear its ugly head and find it hard to release the grip that is holding me back. #G2Great
Don't let these things knock you down. When one door closes...I believe this because it's happened so many times for me. I'm so glad you are writing and getting your voice out there. #G2Great
A4: My Super-Objective, if it can be called that, is to make our ss WANT to come to school every morning, and leaving glad they did (and richer for it). #G2great
A6 I LOVE being around people but I also need plenty of alone time. I make sure that I have both in my life in equal parts at just right times. #G2Great
A6 Every exchange with a S is a potential teaching moment, and ultimately a human connection that matters in the life of that child. I try to always get down at my kinder Ss level, eye to eye so they feel I am heart to heart with them. #BraveLeadership#G2Great
The way you worded this reminds me, instead of asking what are you willing to give I can say, what are you willing to share. I love this Andy. #G2Great
#g2great A5 My OLW last year was Present & this year its JOY, I find I often forget to pause & celebrate the blessings bcz my mind wanders immediately to the next problem/agenda. Being Brave means finding joy in the journey celebrating how far you’ve come vs the woe of tomorrow

A6: I set my timer and put my phone away, so I don't have to think about what time it is or be tempted to check a message when I'm with someone else. I give them my full attention so they know they matter to me. #BraveLeadership#G2Great
A6: Eye contact and Attentive Listening. Students know immediately when we stop listening and just start hearing. If we are to remain present we must make them our focus. Stop-Look-and Listen. I think that is the train crossing rhyme but it applies to be present as well #G2great
A5- I can often get caught in a pattern of 'what went wrong today' instead of 'what was great'- now I make a point of connecting with some colleagues after school to share some positive stories- we always end up laughing and end the day looking forward to the next #g2great
A6 To stay present I focus on the person I'm speaking to, I look at their facial expressions, I don't look at my phone, and sometimes I take notes. #g2great
A4: Super Objective = to be a great "communicator"- of my passion & love for Tchrs, Ss & learning so much so that it creates a spark for AMAZING, kindles JOY and ignites CONFIDENCE & DESIRE to seek their Why? their Super Objective(s) #g2great

A6.
Put the phone down.
Read a poem out loud.
Shut up.
Breathe.
Do not try to do it all now.
Write together.
Say, "Say more."
Wait.
Listen.
Trust.

And there is great comfort knowing it’s not a MARY thing, but a HUAN thing my friend. What causes lack of confidence my vary but most of us DO struggle with it! Comfort in numbers :] #g2great

A6- I eat my breakfast sitting at a table outside my classroom so I can be there when the students arrive. I want the first face they see at school to be smiling and these are often our best spontaneous conversations. #g2great
Oh my gosh. I can't fathom putting the word "just" in front of "a teacher." I cannot think of a stronger, more influential, demanding and impactful role! This #G2Great discussion is an example... Best #BRAVE#leadership. So #inspiring! (I'm not a teacher)

Yes, there is nothing like it. The moment I step into our classroom, everything else fades away :-) They teach me living in the moment, being genuine and authentic every single day. #g2great#LitBankStreet
#G2Great A 6 To be present I look people in the eye and really listen. I smile. I want people to know that they are important to me and that everyone matters.

A5 Procrastination stands in my way. Sometimes, the stacks of to do tasks pile up and I want to step away. My one word hope is part of my plan to move past procrastination. #G2Great

#g2great A5 I have found that asking questions is often interpreted as negative, questioning the status quo. I have also found that others may not share a sense of urgency but BRAVE picks its battles bcz something’s are worth fighting for, Ts and Ss are worth the risk
.@DrMaryHoward What a good lesson for all of us about how to be responsible about our technology use and our person to person connection. #G2Great#LitBankStreet

A7: As a sped T, had weekly PM in 3 forms of math, spelling, writing, and reading. Absolutely insane.
"For the next minute, think about . . ." "Now write for 3 min." CLS - didn't really have to make sense. When on Earth would Wrtg NOT make sense? (state mandate)
#G2Great
I know as educators we have so many setbacks that could keep us from being “great” but what I always try to remember and always teach my student teachers is screw your PASSION to it’s sticking point and remember why/who we do it all for. @kisdlit#G2great
#G2Great A7: My messes happen when I become selfish. I clean them up by humbling myself to realize it's about more than me. It's humbling to admit this.
A7 I still battle taking necessary actionable steps & making authentic impact rooted in my values & beliefs and not reacting to the world around me (i.e. being a chameleon to meet others' expectations of me) #BraveLeadership#G2Great
A6: I set my timer and put my phone away, so I don't have to think about what time it is or be tempted to check a message when I'm with someone else. I give them my full attention so they know they matter to me. #BraveLeadership#G2Great

A7: I would say my biggest mess is allowing myself to get caught up in the "drama" the politics. It becomes a distraction from all the good. Like a Fog really. We always see the imperfections easiest. #G2great
A7: I've been known to get overly excited about an idea before thinking it through & involving people too early on, which can be disappointing when I put the brakes on & hurt relationships. Working on allowing myself to marinate on ideas first. #BraveLeadership#G2Great
A7: I let stress get to me, and it makes me grumpy. Next night, I go to bed at 8:30 and say I'm Sorry! Back on track by not letting it get to me too much. #g2great
#g2great Lucky for me and so many people that you love social media! That’s how we met- and I’m in CA and you in OK! How amazing is that!!!!! And thanks to Jenn for the introduction! @hayhurst3 ❤️You both!

A7. Sometimes I hurry, trying to do too much, think more about what I want to accomplish in a workshop than a human pace for the participants. This is not mindful. I am working on my breathing. If I learn, I will make fewer messes. #g2great
A7 As an educator I've made my share of mistakes - too many to remember. I always say sorry immediately. If I recognize my mistake in front of an entire class of students I will apologize in front of the entire class. #g2great
A7: I make a mess of things when I sacrifice long-term goals for short-term gain. Helping our students grow into fully literate beings requires us to play the long game. #G2Great
A7: Oh, boy! Tough question to answer honestly. I can get too focused on one thing and forget to pay attention to those closest to me. 😞 Relationships are too precious to take for granted. #g2great
Q7 I think one of the biggest mistakes teachers tend to make is that we don’t leave work at work. We invest so much in the children that we are with throughout the day that often times we leave less for those that are closest to us. #G2GREAT#kellerliteracy

A6 There is nothing better than being in the moment. Writing helps me stay present (sometimes to the fault of blocking everything else out). Yoga practice is gr8 strategy & observation is a quick way 2 stay in the moment. #G2Great

A6: Without an "agenda" & being a true listener- know which of your values you want to show up with during your time together (e.g. love, respect, understanding). Then what must I say & do to express that value. #g2great

The Power of Our Words is a great book by Paula Denton, and it's about exactly that. Words have tremendous power - either to build up or to tear down. #g2great

#g2great A7 I over promise & prioritize disproportionately, I know there’s truly no such thing as multitasking yet I still try and soon remember that process often outweighs products and quality always outranks quantity
A7: I can make a mess with my desire to do things "just right" and lose sight of what is really important. Timing and children and good, trusted friends bring my alignment back. #G2Great#LitBankStreet
