#TOSAChat is a chat on Twitter every Monday night at 8pm PST for TOSAs (teachers on special assignment), including all edtech and instructional coaches.
Hey everyone, I’m Callum and I’m part of the engagement team at @Wakelet. I am joining you from across the pond in the UK 😄
My favourite cold weather drink is a nice British cup of tea 🇬🇧 #TOSAchat
A1 I am starting to create resources for Ts and Ss and I sure need a way to make it make sense. I want to present it in the most efficient way. #TOSAchat
A1. As a TOSA I find that curating resources for my teachers helps them sift through all of the overwhelming "stuff" that is coming at them 100mph. It helps if I can find some good stuff first. #Tosachat
A1: I find myzelf curating when teachers want tutorials. I definitely don't mind making my own but we have some amazing educators on Twitter and blogging. Why re-invent the wheel when we can showcase other awesome teachers? #tosachat

Being able to collect, organize, and most importantly keep track of various resources is a huge timesaver. Never know when a convo with another educator will remind/lead you to "oh I just saw something on that" kind of moment. #TOSAchat
A1: Curation allows us to not recreate the wheel each year. The hope is to have a system and content that is easily accessible, otherwise we alienate those we most need to help and waste our precious time. It also allows us to spotlight those we want to emulate. #TOSAchat
A1 There are just SO many great tools and resources out there. Curating the best/most useful “stuff” helps me take that burden away from my teachers. #TOSAchat

A1: Teachers are busy on the front lines shaping young minds. They don't have the time or the energy to find those needed resources. So I try to spend my spare time curating resources that they can utilize effectively. #Tosachat

A1. My short term memory is hindered by my ADHD, so being able to locate resources quickly and easily is a struggle. I have really liked @wakelet lately to organize my resources. #TOSAchat
A2: I still curate things with Nuzzel. I did a applet with IFTTT to create a Google Sheet of all of my Tweets. But nothing has made it easier or more fun to curate than @Wakelet. I've curated so much in the past 6 months without even realizing the amount of resources. #TOSAchat

A2 Depends on the “job” but tools like @wakelet, MS Sway, and @OneNoteEDU are all incredible for curation and sharing. Even Twitter hashtags/searches #tosachat

Hi, #TOSAChat! I’m jumping in late & intermittently tonight. I’m a TOSA @RescueUnionSD in El Dorado County. Unsweetened black iced tea is my favorite year ’round!
A2.b I used to use @Pinterest but it's just too busy and I find that EVERYTHING on pinterest sends me back to TPT 😝
LOVE @wakelet for GOOD solid curation of useful resources. #TOSAChat
Well @wakelet of course is all the rage these days. But tools like @participate has had this idea covered for a while too. @CurioLearning is approaching it with a community feel as well, and started by a teacher. Many great options, just find the one that works for you. #TOSAchat
The Pinterest black hole. Then you feel like your classroom is needs a theme and there are tons of packets you need to buy from TPT. #bigfrickinpackets@mathkaveli#TosaChat

A3 I embed @wakelet collections in my blog posts or emails. It makes it easy for them to find and share with others.
Also looking forward to using the collaboration feature more with my colleagues to curate together!
#Tosachat
A3: Once again, @wakelet makes it so easy to gather everything into a collection and then share a quick shortened link. When teachers click on it they are visually drawn in instead of having a doc or an email full of hyperlinks. Just like @cultofpedagogy talked about. #TOSAchat

A3 I found emails were getting drowned out- we created a @MicrosoftTeams specifically for technology integration. This allows me to add in my Flipgrid videos, Wakelets, blogs, announcements, etc ALL in one place. #tosachat

I’ve created a collaborative curation space on STEAM a few years ago using Google+ communities. It allows a larger groups of members to add, share, comment, and rate posts. Check it out! https://t.co/14HzaCqrzR

LOVE that. I have seen some wonderful newsletters being shared. Monthly is doable too. I did a monthly @SmorePages for my staff last year but totally haven't this year =( #Tosachat
Joining #TOSAchat late. I’m TOSA for #lgsuhsd with the great @srothteachlg. I think curation is super important for us as TOSAs to help identify the signal amongst the noise of so many resources for our teachers who are so busy.
In all honesty- I try not to post too much “junk.” But there is a fair amount of organization with Teams so that teachers can find what they are looking for when they need it. An example is my Flipgrid: https://t.co/N4XqNcKrmj#tosachat

A3: Resources are just words until there's a need. We have to meet teachers where they are. Just like Ss, if they don't get why they don't get the why, it won't be utilized. Our newsletters try to introduce you ideas and resources. Much has to happen interpersonally. #TOSAchat
It's a fine line. In my previous district, I used to send out a weekly email with resources. Some Ts asked me to stop because they felt overwhelmed! Hard to walk that line. #tosachat
In reply to
@KarlyMoura, @EdTechAntics, @iluvteaching72, @Cnight97, @wakelet
EXACTLY!!! If they aren't asking for it AND are in need of it then we are providing something they don't want. We need to show them the value. #Tosachat
Working on this. A mix of district website, blogs, YouTube Channel, emails, etc. trying to be differentiated but hopefully not too broad. #TOSAchat#1CoolThing
A1: Up until five seconds ago, I did not know what Curation was or how it relates to education. I did find an article on the subject. https://t.co/gnPhSsApdE#TOSAchat - I didn't have time to read it yet but looks like it is on the money.
It's really tough. I find that I overwhelm a LOT. I think I'm better but it is a hard line. You want to be useful but you also have to ask who you are providing the information for? You or them. #Tosachat

A former student who worked at Starbucks taught me that trick! Apparently, Starbucks dilutes the tea when making an order, so “no water” results in a stronger tea…as odd as it sounds to order it that way. #TOSAchat
Agreed. I learned that as a "district office person", what I thought was a suggestion some ppl took as "The District is telling us to do this."
#TOSAchat

Timing is probably impt. We’re doing PBL training soon so anything that plans, documents, creates, organizes, presents is useful for the team. #tosachat
A2: I have found a few. I am slow on the ball with @wakelet which is my fault. I need to be a bit more proactive. From what I have seen, it can be a tool and motivator for kids and easy to use. #TOSAchat
A4: I think so. With so many resources in different sources, people (students) need to know how to save, and organize, and then find it later. #TOSAchat
And it's the next step too. I share resources with my teachers then also offer to help them plan or co-teach a lesson with them in the classroom. #Tosachat

@iluvteaching72, @kfairchild6, @EdTechAntics, @Cnight97, @wakelet
A4: It kinda feels like curation and resource verification will be an important skill as we keep seeing more false information on the web. Anyone make a site these days but if our students can curate and then verify the information it can be valuable for their learning. #TOSAchat
YES! I was thinking that too. Your own Twitter or Instagram feed is a curation of sorts. It's important to teach the importance in re-sharing and what we value. #Tosachat
You don’t always have to add them to collections either!
If you would just like to just save content for later you can save them to your bookmarks area #TOSAchat
A4: We should absolutely teach curation to students. Organizational skills are crucial to success in any endeavor. And, having a well-organized resource bank is a huge advantage. #TOSAchat
For sure. I’m always looking for a tool that organizes easily so I can find it later. Though I guess now it’s all about a good search function. #TOSAchat
A5 I am a huge fan of getting everyone involved in sharing out whatever they created from the session. I used to have all of my attendees add their #HyperDocs to a @padlet. Now I will use @wakelet. So cool to see what everyone created! #Tosachat
A3 Follow up: I was wracking my brain on how to answer Question 3 but Stephanie has a great point. Meeting teachers where they are is important. I can be given a newsletter full of information but I may not be ready to try certain things yet. The Slow Path can be good. #TOSAchat
A3: Resources are just words until there's a need. We have to meet teachers where they are. Just like Ss, if they don't get why they don't get the why, it won't be utilized. Our newsletters try to introduce you ideas and resources. Much has to happen interpersonally. #TOSAchat
A5: We talk so much about Ss building portfolios. Ts should be curating evidence of their own learning and using it to network with Ts in other schools to learn more together. There's too many ways to connect for us to feel like we're the only ones experiencing our job. #TOSAchat

A5 My Team has been brainstorming different ways to curate resources from TK-12th. Different levels like their content delivered in diff ways. @wakelet and google sites has been out tools to explore this year. #TOSAchat

I never thought about doing a session on organization/ curation and getting people to share out what they do. That’s a great idea. I’d love to do this in our district. #TOSAchat
A5...THIS! Grade levels or cross subjects this is where curation and sharing meet! Ed camp style anyone?!?
It helps to have folks who have institutional memory, but the wealth of resources is invaluable.

A4: Yes! We need to help them organize themselves. I wrote a blog on organizing in Google drive with a presentation for staff and students. Google drive is great or a @AdobeSpark portfolio. https://t.co/cEtQXmauk8#TOSAchat
A big part of #HyperDocs is the community of sharing. Getting people to share their stuff right away is priceless. It doesn't have to be pinterest perfect to share with others #tosachat
A4 just finished my hot chocolate saw you were still going strong #TOSAchat it's vital for students to know how to gather QUALITY resources. The fast changing work world/job market require thinkers, researchers, who can adapt.
A4: The reason that I joined Twitter was to challenge my thinking. Google can provide the what but teachers need to provide the spark. The 4 C's are important to remember when creating a dynamic lesson plan. I like collaboration. Anytime, I can watch the kids go is fun. #TOSAchat
Yes. I made a middle school teacher who is doing amazing things with it. He is using it as a message board for students to post problems and get help from fellow students. #TOSAchat
A5 Sooooo Important! This hasn't been happening but is a goal of our district. We are hoping our ILT staff can model this in our own Canvas Course. Without this, it's hard to learn from others in the PD process. #TOSAchat
I’ve played a bit with @wakelet, but sometimes it just seems like a running list of stuff and not necessarily organized in a user friendly way. Am I missing something? How do you all use it #TOSAChat?
Yes that is a REALLY important piece. I just want them to be able to justify WHY they believe it is an important resource to add. That is key. Just adding for the sake of adding is dumping. #tosachat
A1: Curating resources for teachers pre-filters the sheer volume of information out there. Plus value added when it is something from a PLN/twitter source/colleague. #TOSAchat
Agreed, and quite frankly a barrier for many that keeps them from seeking out new stuff online. When you’re hit with a flood of resources all the time and don’t know what to do with it, the easiest response is to ignore it altogether. Then you just miss out. #TOSAChat

That’s powerful, Les. Love your words - that you joined Twitter to challenge your thinking. That’s definitely the way it’s been for me. I’ve grown so much - as it’s not bc I only engage w ppl with similarities. Important to engage w other POVs. #tosachat
.@wakelet is AWESOME and educators are using it in INCREDIBLE ways!
We would love to know how YOU use @wakelet! Please contribute to this collection using the link below ⬇️

A5: Anything we can use can use curation. From @Flipgrid to @Screencastify to using #hyperdocs in the classroom. We have many tools now that were not available just five years ago. Think back, what was your teaching like five years ago. An amazing time we live in. #TOSAchat
Well if I may, a shameless plug for a collective curation project I'm launching soon for the #tcea#solutioncircles sessions we'll have the 1st week of Feb. We will use @wakelet to collect and share resources during round table talk sessions. #notattcea follow along too #TOSAchat
A5 I would love to start doing this! We have team drives for sharing lessons, but having a place to gather grade level content links would be very helpful. Leverage the power of #padlet#wakelet#googlesheet etc. #TOSAchat
