Good morning, christina from MD. 6th grade reading teacher.
Hi all! Oona from NJ. I teach HS English
Hmm..teaching chose me. I am the 3rd generation. My daughter will be 4th. Can't wait to hear your stories! https://t.co/GfBdfQHWoO
Happy Tuesday ! Today's question: Why did you first decide to become an Educator? Do you hold true to that vision?
Good morning Stacey from NJ. MS tech coach.

Music saved my life, it was my outlet. I went into teaching to share it with others to help save their lives.
Good morning! Mark from Indiana. Tech integration.
Good morning .
Brian, HS principal from Mass.
All of my favorite people in HS were my English teachers. That plus I hated everything else about school. I wanted to fix it.
Something in the air. We had a PA day on Friday. Could have been 3 days out of routine too.
I want to make some sort of bread/toast/breakfast pun, but I'm pre-coffee. It's not coming.
You "get" to do it again!!
I started teaching in the Peace Corps because I wanted to see the world and be its student. 20 years later still learn every day.
I also thought it was the coolest thing to teach someone something new, and yes, I still do!
I wanted to be an actress and a vocalist. My parents suggested lawyer, b/c they're VERY dramatic. Majored in English and became a T
Good morning ... Mark here from Estes Park Colorado...
Like most, to make a difference in Ss lives. To change the way we do school! We are holding true at !
Good morning, . I'm Ku, Learning Coach, Argentina.
S: Can I take my pants off. Me: um S: I have another pair underneath. And that is why I teach. What other job would u hear that?
As a former "customer" of the ed system, I saw firsthand that change was needed for the US: https://t.co/Jgk6OFc25q Staying true!
We feel the same about you!!
1. My dad was a T, and I liked his schedule.
2. I had some "bad math Ts" and wanted to be better.
3. I love school environment
I have a similar story. https://t.co/1iQ3mNHlhn
I became an because I was always told I had a lot of patience with young people, and yes, I think I still do!
That makes me super glad you're in this profession.
Guess education chose me. Vision was bleak and uncertain to start with. After 17 years doing it, I feel its strength.
Worked at a week long church camp & working w/young people just seemed a natural fit & still seems to be or I would quit tomorrow
Why an educator? To help change one life, for the better, at a time...truly a blessing and a vocation!
Good morning From Accra, Ghana . Checking in for a quick break from my morning
I started as a music teacher. It wasn't comfortable in a large setting so taught private lessons and preschool music programs.
Good morning! Hoping our friends in the Caribbean are faring well this morning.
Another question that feels too big for an uncaffienated mind...
It was actually a college friend's aha moment to become an English T that sparked mine. I realized how much I loved it
I decided to become a teacher after volunteering to help in GED class and really enjoying helping others
Being an educator found me. I never thought I would be a teacher, but an opportunity presented itself to me in the 1980s...
I think its important to check in on your own 'why' from time to time.
Morning buddy. Hope all is well!
I was inspired by my amazing 3rd grade teacher. I wanted to inspire kids the way she inspired me. https://t.co/RAumIvVx3P
Happy Tuesday ! Today's question: Why did you first decide to become an Educator? Do you hold true to that vision?
Too long for here -- check out the Voxer group today. In short, I became a teacher largely due to models I had in HS and college.
It wasn't until after I taught for a while that I'd say I truly became an Educator. I talk about it here https://t.co/8Ooz3io6Vu
You would feel right at home in a middle school! https://t.co/RLIEDRHAGa
S: Can I take my pants off. Me: um S: I have another pair underneath. And that is why I teach. What other job would u hear that?
I always thought teacher was so similar to acting. Good choice.
It's funny that this question pops up. It's a good reminder to keep grounded. Does that mean we're not teaching how we'd like to?
How are the rains holding up? Or is not the season yet?
We gotta do it again because we make the big dough?
To me, teaching was something I knew I could do. I had scrutinized Ts every day of my life, knew the great ones & the not so great
I am the only teacher in my very large family; my dad tried so hard to dissuade me, but he couldn't do it!
You are right, sometimes we lose that! https://t.co/oJ1Cf7zLGQ
I think its important to check in on your own 'why' from time to time.
started tutoring after becoming a Mom. Previous lives = Finance and Engineering. Always LOVED Math
In HS I loved history, ( a Ts inspired me )but got side tract & didn't get to teaching till I was 50. Best thing I ever did
Almost spit out my coffee on this! https://t.co/XLGVaIEWaV
You would feel right at home in a middle school! https://t.co/RLIEDRHAGa
S: Can I take my pants off. Me: um S: I have another pair underneath. And that is why I teach. What other job would u hear that?
Became a T after yrs working w/ at-risk youth in afterschool program. Wanted to stay connected to kids
I hadn't liked school much, except for a few teachers, and actually thought I could do better
Both parents were in education so I seemed destined. 23 years later I know that my choice was right. Def a career not a job for me.
I became an educator because I found myself happiest when I was helping others learn.
I started by coaching 4-5YO's on my summer swim team. I loved working w/kids. It is still the best part of my day!
Oh snap! Michelle's on point today, everybody!
My advisor & fav political science professor. Wanted to do what he did, he was an amazing teacher. Still on the journey.
I admire you! https://t.co/jDgEebPfjj
I started teaching in the Peace Corps because I wanted to see the world and be its student. 20 years later still learn every day.
All my heroes were teachers. Mom, 8th grade teacher, HS English teacher. I wanted to be just like them...and now I can pass it on.
Morning Greg! How are things in TN?
My first time here at . I became an educator bc I wanted to be a meaningful part in the life of a student as my teachers were 4 me
I also liked the idea of helping kids figure out as much life stuff as possible. Teaching lit seemed like a good route.
glad he didn't ! https://t.co/xtTU5nPglI
I am the only teacher in my very large family; my dad tried so hard to dissuade me, but he couldn't do it!
After we read Fish in a Tree this summer my oldest son said he wants to be a T just like Mr. Daniels. I got ready-eyed, I admit
Yes. Music was the first place I was motivated and pushed. Many of the other teachers didn't care. That needed to change.
We've had some rainy days, but nothin too bad. Heavy rains seem to come in May/June Surfed in the rain Sunday!
Always "played school." My senior yr I volunteered during study hall in a special ed class. I learned so much from my Ss.
Welcome! This is an amazing group.
Fantastic thank you, how about your place?
And you learned the perseverance needed in teaching by being a Mets fan
those first few years, my theater experience was fundamental. I started at 21 teaching 17 year-olds
great role model ( and you too) When my daughter said she was going to be a Ts also, yes got all misty
So the next step: How does your practice inspire others to join the profession?
My goals have been 2 fold: Help Ss here in rural Appalachia (my roots) and work for positive change in the ed ecosystem. Love both!
Good Morning! I wanted to ignite hope to be all you can be, to motivate https://t.co/2ygk59t2ar
Happy Tuesday ! Today's question: Why did you first decide to become an Educator? Do you hold true to that vision?
I have a similar story. 3rd grade gave me voice. 9th grade I volunteered with my 3rd grade until her retirement
You said what I was thinking very well. Welcome to !
Welcome to the family! Best PLN u will find anywhere! https://t.co/8BR1AFEWKS
My first time here at . I became an educator bc I wanted to be a meaningful part in the life of a student as my teachers were 4 me
I am a third generation teacher. It was the family business that offered stability/joy so decided as a kid to do it .stuck to it.
High school co-op in Gr 1-2. When a kid was asked to make a sentence using the word "so" he wrote "So what?" I was hooked.
I had a lot of trouble in school. I was "that kid," and only my fifth grade teacher saw the potential behind the behavior.
Yes, when it is only a job or a paycheck that can be detrimental to you & your Ss.
Nice. https://t.co/scq4fFLoUv
I hadn't liked school much, except for a few teachers, and actually thought I could do better
Our job is hard, demanding, little credit, little money..but I couldn't imagine doing anything else. It would pale in comparison
Welcome! You'll love it here! Daily inspiration for sure!
Fantastic goals. Started working w/ kids in Appalachia too. Lots of great memories, & challenges
Love that approach to teaching! Helping our Ss to uncover/discover the realities of life!
I do miss teaching literature, but enjoy being a tech coach as well. My best days are when I get to co-teach
is now trending in USA, ranking 21
wow! What an incredible experience that must have been!
I had poor grades and felt very judged for them. Being a teacher is probably wrapped up in that too.
Giving back provides great purpose!
Interesting how many are mentioning great AND not so great Ts growing up. Makes me hope I'm more on the great side of that spectrum!
All good here. Busy & challenged. Can't ask for much more.
I'm so saddened when I see this happening. You're right, everyone suffers!
I never wanted to be a teacher. My 19 year old self would run into traffic if she knew where she would end up...
Sharing my passion w/Ss -- the craft behind educational theater -- is now as transformative as when I was in my 20s.
Actually my third calling. Broadcasting (3 yrs) software project manager (17 yrs) , and now teaching (10yrs). Spreading the love!
Reply: Subject matter experts share. Subject matter experts can continue to be curious. Gurus go out of fashion fast.
funny there are days I feel like that today !!! https://t.co/bBfqBI9ZWx
I never wanted to be a teacher. My 19 year old self would run into traffic if she knew where she would end up...
In what way, do you know you are "better"? What guides you? https://t.co/zdftsYIIsl
I hadn't liked school much, except for a few teachers, and actually thought I could do better
my mom literally cried when I switched from finance to English education
I was inspired by many along the way like educators including my mom. Came to public school after staying home for 10 yrs with kids
The gift that keeps on giving! 😊
And what experience you bring having done other things first!
Wrong profession to just take a paycheck.
I fell into this when I decided I wanted to go back to grad school. UMAss had a critical and creative thinking program.
My first inspiration was toward coaching. I was inspired by my coaches and felt I had those skills and qualities to impact others
Ran into a former student in NYC last wkend. Impact he shared my class was priceless. Others would be jealous of us
Pedagogy > Content. End of story.
My mom said teaching was taking the easy road. She volunteered in my JK/SK class. Now advocates for teachers.
I wanted to be for my Ss what I didn't have in school-someone who cared about me personally. https://t.co/Z3xtLy56lZ
Happy Tuesday ! Today's question: Why did you first decide to become an Educator? Do you hold true to that vision?
Gotta run, have a great day! Thanks for the kick start!
Well said my friend. Hope u r well & the year is going great! https://t.co/5Ei71eVNRd
Sharing my passion w/Ss -- the craft behind educational theater -- is now as transformative as when I was in my 20s.
Actually looking to see where an go next. 1st woman president in 2020? I'll be running against Kanye. 😉
yes 3rd care for me also. i know I as much as I may have wanted to, couldn't have done this in my '20s
And interestingly, this vocation changes our life, for the better, one days at a time https://t.co/AnXE9nOZST
Why an educator? To help change one life, for the better, at a time...truly a blessing and a vocation!
I liked the sound of critical and creative thinking - but it was meant for teachers. I signed up for a class, and I was hooked.
Agreed. I feel as much of a sense of accomplishment as others when I help out
My son is on this same path. Wants to coach and I see such passion in him. I know he'll fall in love with teaching.
My underlying philosophy is the same, but my style and methods of teaching have transformed. https://t.co/I7oX4YU7Ll
Join tomorrow at 5:30am as we discuss: Why did you first decide to become an Educator? Do you hold true to that vision?
Can I come work for you, please? :)
It took me until my sophomore year of high school before I knew I wanted to teach.
Miss Green my high school English teacher was my biggest influence due to her innovative and contemporary teaching style.
A little humor for my friends! We live in a transitional time in EDU, so we MUST transform the way we teach… https://t.co/53vvx3vM1M
It's inspiring and life-changing...we have the privilege of helping others learn!
How sweet! That book should be required reading for teachers. https://t.co/lJGUbefpiz
After we read Fish in a Tree this summer my oldest son said he wants to be a T just like Mr. Daniels. I got ready-eyed, I admit
both of my son's have Ts who worked in business prior to teaching. I like their energy.
Teaching needs to be seen as a craft. i get crazy angry in those "I bet I could teach" conversations.
My connection was art and drama. Now it is music and tech too. Connections keep growing.
I totally get that....but it is available in pink too :)
The one thing that hasn't changed since year one is the drive to be better each year for the sake of my students.
What other profession gives u the chance to change a persons life on a daily basis? Right, none.
Gotta go. Working on conference presentations! Have a great day my friends. Glad you all made the choice to teach!
So much more than I can capture in limited characters... And sometimes. https://t.co/P5iYH3klOc
Happy Tuesday ! Today's question: Why did you first decide to become an Educator? Do you hold true to that vision?
A friend said it well, "I want my kid to make a life, not a living." We help kids do just that--finding their passions & genius.
Nobody works for me. Im just an instructional coach. ...One day though..
So true...transformative all the way around!
Thank you. I spent 5 years volunteering there because she still gave me voice. I'll never forget that.
THIS ===>

What other profession gives u the chance to change a persons life on a daily basis? Right, none.
Really? I can't imagine you doing anything else. Maybe working in the church.
I don't know, I thought I could. Took a few years before my room was any different than a reg classroom that I had hated
Okay, keep me in mind! ;)
Good morning and welcome to ! We're a friendly bunch!
it certainly gave me a different practice & life experience, and still feel like a new Ts after 11 years
Challenges indeed. But I can think of no other place I'd rather be & no other job I'd rather do.
Powerful way to start the day .
Cheers!
Or the "u can't do so u teach" mentality. Makes me want to punch people
Amazing book Can't wait to read it this year! again
Still true to my mission -follow what interests you and build your life around it - but I often feel exhausted from T-ing now...
Good morning ! Edu found me. Have loved tech forever Owned gaming and training center w . Love learning and sharing 🖥💻❤️
Off and running people, great topic. So great to hear all your stories. Make it a good Tuesday!
Kids. If I could leave a legacy by impacting some positively, it was the right choice. I think I've done that.
welcome t our little family !
Mine too! For the sake of our school, our community, our future! https://t.co/zQmnqyeNTR
The one thing that hasn't changed since year one is the drive to be better each year for the sake of my students.
Weird, i thought we were already friends on Twitter.. lol
once I figured out I was supposed to be teaching kids, not English, things fell into place
That's what I aspire to, being the T that helps a S find their voice, path, calling, passion. T that makes a diff
I show my Ss that I care. Some have tough lives, but it helps to have a person cheering you on or helping you up when you fall.
It's like ppl who have been sick & think they could be a doctor. Frustrating!
Me too! I was in the hotel biz after graduating. Lived overseas and had a crazy life. Now I work happy!
yes! I do think working in the corporate world has given me different perspective!
Wanted to be a T in elementary school. My grandfather was also a HS English T in Korea. It's in the blood.
I'm actually surprised you haven't taught your whole life... You're a natural.
it's not even going to work. I'm going to TEACH !
Great topic. NEVER forget the reason u do this job, it is what keeps u going! Have a great Tuesday!
I think our passion for teaching can be seen be the fact we are up this early reflecting on it. Have a great day doing a great job!

And what experience you bring having done other things first!
wow thank you so much nah just starting year 11,but I barley rememberbefore This is what I was meant to do !
I taught English in Korea to teachers in workshops during their school breaks. Loved my time in Korea and miss it.
And from watching "Dead Poets Society". I wanted to be like Mr. Keating so bad! Wanting to inspire students to pursue passions 👍🏻
. good to ask this "Why did you become an educator" of teachers not on Twitter. Ts here are so open.
Something to think about as you begin each day, each class you teach! https://t.co/TQDIgW3ddQ
once I figured out I was supposed to be teaching kids, not English, things fell into place
At the end of the day, I judge myself by the energy, the smiles, and the fact college kids send their essays to me still

Great topic! From what I've read, we are keeping true to what brought us into this profession. Let's keep making a difference.
I still feel like it after 22 years! When I think I know all about ED it is time to retire.
Very cool! Would love to go back. It's been too long.

I think our passion for teaching can be seen be the fact we are up this early reflecting on it. Have a great day doing a great job!
Absolutely! Took me a while to adjust! I saw so many areas for improvement in how topics were covered. https://t.co/HERtVKpUPj
yes! I do think working in the corporate world has given me different perspective!
I was inspired by Gr9 Ts. I could see them making a diff &saw I could do same. Today I have ability to work w/ Ts across 150 schools
Yes you have !! ( and some follow Ts as well )
love helping students get the EUREKA aka understand Math to create opportunities
I'm having a year like that unfortunately and I need to turn it around. Trying lots of things!
Thanks for the hearty welcome!
it makes every day something to look forward to. I am grateful for the opportunity.

I got into teaching because I was working w adults w developmental disabilities in college and someone suggested I get SE certified
Good morning ! I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with my life, but I thought hanging out with kids was fun. I still do...
I became a T to use my language skills to help Ss adjust&learn&succeed. Became an admin to do the same on a larger scale.
Really thought I was getting certified to teach as something to fall back on. 25 years later. Still falling :)
My teaching practice has taken on a greater sense of direction and intentionality over the years. Even so, novelty drives me.
good morning, sir. And me too :)
Hallo! I was just about to say it was good company seeing you on the same side if the teaching room!
likewise. And of course finding like minded passionate educators only amplified my own passion
I've got to get back to soon. It's been too easy to roll over and snooze.
I became a T because as a Military kid, T's were always there to support me, guide me and inspire me. I wanted to do the same
I feel like this is one of the most versatile careers, if that's important to you (and you have good admin...)
3yrs working in women's prison inspired me to be part of earlier intervention. So many impacted by their early childhood experiences
